I would say it is just thinner glass and that would be the reason for the different properties you describe, but I do not own this piece, yet. Let us know how you go cleaning it as I am interested in getting one (I will use my ultrasonic cleaner on mine, best thing since sliced bread))

I hope ur right, btu I could imagine this chinese manufacturer cutting costs by using a plastic bit inside. It certainly feels unlike glass.

I clean it with just hot water and dish soap every night after using it. Been doing that for a few weeks now and it looks just like new.

Its not even possible to join glass and plastic by heat, the plastic would melt and burn, if you can't see where its glued on, it must be all glass.
