Getting back to the Lux . . . ;)

I just went back and watched my video. I CLEARLY stated that is was the susceptor combined with the induction that was heating the medicine. Before you misquote me, and go on a rant about how induction is being misrepresented, best watch the video again. Please start at 1:08.

Yeah sorry, I didn’t mean to come off so hot-headed - i’m mostly just irritated at the bs and dishonesty coming from this company and their total lack of accountability. Appreciate you putting the time in to test it and share your results here though and I didn’t mean to rant against ya so, sorry about that.

Regarding the topic in question, just to be a little nit picky, what you actually said was “because of the susceptors and the induction, the actual taste and vapor that you’re getting from your concentrate are pretty high quality.” I definitely did understand you the first time I watched it and i still don’t believe that the taste and quality is any better than a well engineered hard-wired system. There’s just nothing in induction heating a susceptor that could possibly change the flavor and quality of the vapor compared to just heating that susceptor with good ol’ resistance heating. I think that’s the part that I’m finding a lot of people seem to be confused by.

If all other things are equal, Induction-powered conduction vapes (which is what lux is) cannot possibly be any better than resistance-powered conduction vapes. LotoLabs is preying off the vague understanding many have of what induction can actually do in a vape and it’s pretty shady and unethical.

I never made that claim. I just said that it was pretty good IMHO . . . :) One thing that is interesting is that the heater profile can be changed by using different susceptors. This would have never occurred to me if I didn't get the beta by mistake.

Anyways thanks for being nice . . . :peace:

You’re totally right, you didn’t make that claim at all - sorry, got a little fired up again!

Has anyone else on here received their Lux yet? I have one of the herb capsules on the way but it won't be here for at least a week. I was hoping to get some feedback from FC peeps . . . :peace:
Yesterday I got a message from customs, I can expect to get mine(s) next week later. Although I didn't got any shipping notice from Loto Labs inc...

Ok, Loto Labs Inc have to learn how to send vapes internationally... mine is stucked at customs and I'm afraid I'll have to pay a ton of customs fees if they gave a look at the website price.... I rarely got this sort of issues with most US manufacturers/retailers cause they know what to do to avoid this fees to the customers. I think they didn't mention any price on the package.

@VapeFiend.com posted a video of the "best 2018 vaporizers"(!!!) including the Lux... to be honnest the video is not very impressive, @t-dub made a better job!

Processed some flowers&trim and got some incredibly tasty honey I will test with the Lux when it comes, 2 hits from this oïl and the room stinks like if somebody opened a full sportbag of weed!!
Not stealth at all!

Hi, I received my units together (I'm across the seas) yesterday, sadly I was sick and busy and didn't gave it a test. My plan is to use it straight after my post and edit it.

Firt impressions (if I try to forget the size) are pretty good, building quality seems very good.... except for this ugly mp , maybe Ed's TNT will work on a wood one.
The battery it comes with is not from the famous brands we trust (it's written"HWE 18650 3.7v 2600mah R12).... even the cheap Novae came with a Samsung 25R! Although maybe it's a good one...
The included charger seems very good but I still not used it.
Is the manufacturer didn't mention a dry herb capsule will be included? I only got 3 capsules per device and they are identicals. Maybe they shipped it to me before to decide to include it...

edit: just tried it once with a small amount of homemade pull and snap, got some nice tasty hits but not really cloudy, not very convenient to load too.... more to come but the good first impressions are slightly less good now. Tried to load a sort of mini elb which came with the Imag3 and to place it in a glass capsule.... no results for now... although the induction coil seems large enough for a Vapcap... but still not tested it for now...
re-edit: tried it again and definitively got whispy clouds, is my Samsung 25R underpowered for this vape, just going to charge the included battery to see if there is a difference...

Is it possible to install directly the App on a computer (PC) since I don't own any Smartphone...? I hope there is a trick or I'll have to find a friend with one...
The only other vape I use who have an App is the ESV and it was working on a PC but GooglePlay tell me that's not possible for the Lux App...

March Update

Hello Supporters,

Just wanted to take a moment to update you. Fulfillment has begun and many of you have received your units — hooray! We’ve just updated and refreshed our website. We’ve decided to stop taking new orders until we fulfill each and every crowdfunder. We would not be here without your support and attention. Thank you for keeping us in check and reminding us why we started this in the first place: To give the world the best possible experience vaping using Magnetic Induction.

We’ve temporarily changed our website status to a reservation system for any new orders. For now, our focus is to our Indiegogo supporters. We’re shipping each supporter who chose Loose Leaf a special, limited supply Dry Herb capsule. The Concentrates capsule works extremely well with eLiquid and concentrates. Given the open capsule, we highly recommend making sure to not overfill the capsule and placing the Lux on at least a 45% slant when not in use. If you haven’t already, check out our How to Vape page for some how-to videos.

We’ve had a few successful small batch runs and are now taking a quick moment to improve automation and our assembly process and systematically address bottlenecks in order to increase production rates. This is common in production ramps like this and we are still optimistic fulfillment will increase in speed and all Indiegogo perks will be fulfilled by early summer. We will continue to reach out to customers individually as their order is ready for shipment.

Until then, we’re going to keep putting out informational videos. We are working hard to get accessories up on the website as well, so keep an eye out for those.

Peace, love, and vaping,

Loto Labs

A short post to mention the App is only made for smartphone and there is no version for computer... it's a pia for the caveman I am!
I need to find a friend more civilized than me (with a smartphone!)cause I need to test higher t° before to give my opinion on this device. Tested it with shatter on the bottom+kief on the top and the sleeve and susceptor and got a nice session with small tasty clouds but I'm still not convinced about efficiency although it was the best session to date.
I agree with @t-dub a good pre-heat is needed and (with stock settings) you can lean on the button for a while without overheating. Tried it with flowers but it was a similar experience as this crappy vape pens with a ceramic pin with a wire around as offered us in the past, burning taste and uneven abv!
Although I will not give up too soon with this device and will try to test it with higher t° settings and larger loads.

Finally I'm getting more consistent results with this device, load size makes a big difference in term of clouds sizing. I loaded around 3-4x a rice grain sized dab and got very nice clouds, taste and effects. Not so much pre-heat in fact, I just push the button 3s before to start to hit and give it a deep and long first inhalation, for subséquents inhalation I don't pre heat anymore except if the device get enough time to be cold again and shorter inhalations too.

To be honnest, with stock settings you can't expect to get the kinds of clouds a coil based device can offer although there is some counterparts, clouds are fuckin smooth if you don't lean too much on the button, taste stay pretty good all around the session(s) and you never get this nasty taste you get when there is only residue on the coil (I get a thin burnt taste while using kief but only for the last hit.

There is absolutly a Learning curve but I begin to understand better how this device works and there is some interesting things to offer, I see it like a sort of Hercule for now. And the object is pretty elegant even if big and if i don't consider this ugly mp .

But I can't say "buy it" , cause the pricepoint... and cause a lot of things might be better (mp, capsule design, dry herb usage, size, battery even if I don't have to complain for now but last day one battery was pretty hot just after a few hits ).

I will continue to experiment: mesh in the capsules, several susceptors in one caps, bigger susceptor maybe Vapcap (which fits but will touch the induction coil and I'm afraid it's not good for the device, not enough place to install a glass sleeve), still not understood the airpath too (air doesn't seems to come from the bottom but from the side...),Vaponic.... that's fun! lot of things to play with!

Salutations PPN,

...load size makes a big difference...

Evidently, so what's their susceptor's weight exactly??

...mesh in the capsules...

Or why not simply evaluate a sandwich structure as i done with my modded/customized VG pipe?...

LAVA "Bi-Energy" engine implementing fig. 11/12 item of VG's patent

Using the Classic VG as a prototyping platform for layout references, the recommended dimensions are 3.1 mm thick for the SiC Front Puck (on top), 1.0 mm thick for the 17-Holes Metal Disc in the middle (try DynaVap's CCD Screen as substitute if mass ~ 0.75 g), 2.4 mm thick for the Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck (right next to the Brass Screen which also works as a resilient mechanical support)...

Though doing so would modify the ritual significantly:

2cg06ir.jpg

Which was my case anyway, except i use plain old clean-burning butane to inject a temporary Heat Charge while you'd do so thanks to electro-magnetic Induction Heat applied to this "Bi-Energy" compatible solution as illustrated above.

...

So, how does it feel being with pioneers? Lucky you! :science:

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

I still don't believe it'll ever make it to market. And by market I'm not talking about a 3 year preorder shipping out, I mean day to day orders getting fulfilled like a normal business.

The Lux I tried was a total fail, only way to see "clouds" was to exhale directly into the morning sun, let alone the nightmare of loading a those tiny pieces is just not doable outdoors or at a festival.

Salutations SameOldTim,

...a total fail...

This is at least what i'd reply myself when that comes to its basic founding principles:

2uhlq9i.jpg

As i recall using only *1* single battery felt like a joke to me, kind of early (...) - and perhaps also to other readers as well. Then the Loto Labs strategy was to push the cork even deeper by announcing inclusion of electrical contacts in their wireless design!! Which inspired me this next comment below...

...only way to see "clouds" was to exhale directly into the morning sun...

Under those given circumstances that's not even surprizing, hence my question about susceptor weight.

:sherlock:

Enjoying exhales under a few diagonal sunrays ain't necessarily a bad thing, i do exactly that everytime there's an opportunity because i need to be more careful than average, plus it feels so comforting somehow! Sometimes eye-contact ain't what's best in visual feedback, especially if dancing clouds became a large part of one's favourite ritual. Hard to explain without sharing the fun. Could be an ex-smoker thing, go figure.

:D

The reason i suggested a Hybrid Core as in my VG, previously, is because it would allow to compensate for the weak aspects somewhat (which i believe to have been avoided by this particular manufacturer right from the start).

But adversity still may prove creative if that eventually helps to deal with such frugal energy budget so that vaporizers can compete e-Cigs someday.

This product was conceived starting with a focussed intention to seduce visually, while the primary goal with any such portable project should be to determine what's a realistic/suitable bowl size 1st - then the heat source can be determined accordingly. Instead it's like a shell was created as a function of available battery sizes, then the bowl came sort of late in that process.

E. G. fulfilling the needs of a startup company came long before the needs of their customers IMO.

Yet it's here now - at least for a few owners. I'd have expected a beefier IH driver but i suspect it's possible to get the most of it by completing the work where Loto Labs left it nearly unfinished: re-design this primitive bowl into one exploiting a proper combination of all heat types exactly!

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Yes this is exactly my experience using stock settings, did you tried higher t° with the App too?

Agree about loading too. And the battery last only 12-15 hits before to start to get poorer performances... still get some hopes the App will make it better, it's not a cloud machine and it's not very effective but , at least, it's pretty tasty.

Salutations everybody,

My question stands:

...what's their susceptor's weight exactly??

Or at least please provide exact dimmensions to extrapolate some crude approximation of WEIGHT. The susceptor's metal weight, that is. ... Just in case i might sound, euh... "Confusing"!

...about loading... ...it's not a cloud machine and it's not very effective...

Correction, i've got reasons to seriously suspect that the workload and its corresponding energy source are just poorly matched. That's all.

Using 1 single battery i wouldn't expect the performances of a table unit, which doesn't mean i can't do great visuals vaporizing only 20 ~ 25 mg per toke, routinely. That's why i asked the WEIGHT question exactly, because mass combined to specific heat capacity (of a susceptor metal), temperature (and heat-transfer processes included) shall determine what amount of vegetal substrate covered with trichomes, hopefully (...), that can be reasonably expected to vaporize. Most unfortunately, the choice of a conductive heat source proves piss-poor at best judging from what we can all read. Doesn't it??

:sherlock:

Now imagine if the load ain't perfectly dry...

Hence my comment on a "thermal bottle" again. To the very least, stop wasting the precious energy as it gets generated, for starters. Next convert to convection, pre-heating time will stretch but your tokes will gain in multiples features simultaneously. Yet this still requires sand-dry cannabic bowls i'd say, otherwise too much energy is eventually lost for too little useful purpose, etc., etc.

Instead build a "Heat Charge" that stays relatively contained until inhalation begins, the process is essentially dynamic: it's a time-compressed experience, so just don't bother too much about thermostatic temperature except the Curie temperature - provided Loto Labs ever felt necessary/convenient (or even ju$tified...) to have a Curie alloy implementing their susceptor function at all...

15dp4yr.jpg
efnkzr.jpg

IMO 2 slices of SiC foam around a permeable stainless-steel core laid out to provide both a "shielding" and a "radiator" component would work great in a "Micro-Bursting" situation where no material is allowed sufficient time to over-heat. Correct me if i'm wrong but NASA boys would likely agree such consumption method actually relies on "adiabatic approximation" to accomplish its wonders... Which is about heat traveling at some finite speed in solid matter - that's like when i torch-clean my screens on the back of my Bronze Sherlock and never fear to endure skin burns.

Draining a single battery in vain just ain't the solution: think improved energy conversion instead!!

:science:

A Susceptor's weight combined to its Curie point, if any, will set the maximum cannabis load a Heat Charge can handle. It's essentially transitional in ritual terms, heat injection must be followed by inhalation without wasting time. While air remains static the pockets inclosed in SiC foam matrixes will behave more like a heat insulator than a radiator, then in presence of a dynamic airflow a contrasted transition occurs: the temporarily-stored heat shall be transfered as efficiently/quickly as practically possible, from the Hybrid Core to its target work-load almost directly, except for a Brass Screen preventing excessive hot-spotting. That's all that i'd want in between because it's meant to be the:

Shortest Path of Least Transformation

Consequently, a somewhat reduced energy budget i believe. But that's me.

:D

In conclusion, this Loto Labs IH generator ain't sexy in terms of energy output but now that it's there in the real world i'd advise its proud owners to consider exploring enhanced alternatives to this unfinished capsule of theirs. For all i can tell it was hand-drawn on a pizza box (...) in a moment of intense illumination under the sky of Italy anyway!...

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Evidently, so what's their susceptor's weight exactly??
I can't say exactly.... cause my scale is limited to 0.1 minimum, when I put the susceptor alone the scale shows 0, when I add the sleeve the total weight 0.4 but susceptor might to weight a bit less than 0.1 alone.

Tried again to add more metal mass using a mini elb bottom part from the Imag3 vaporizer (+sleeve&susceptor), seems to produce a bit more vapor but increase heating time too. Still not tried several susceptors or mesh screen sandwich or...

The unit flash red (low battery) when there is still a lot of power in the battery, up of 50% but not enough for the Lux. I tried a search for the battery and found the manufacturer is Howell Energy (china), although the provided battery is not mentionned in the website.... what the R12 written on the battery means? Is it Something special?

I tried a Samsung 25R.... not totally sure but doesn't seems to work as well as the provided ones. Is there an battery expert around? I get some used LGHE2, Samsung 25R, Sony VTC4 and 2 brand news VTC6, which is the best for the Lux

Received mine yesterday.

Initial impression:
Pretty. Heavy. Weird. Well thought out box and instructions. Fun to unpack. Lack of clear directions for dry herb. Wispy lame clouds, but tasty. Battery died before I got medicated fully.

More when it's charged up!

Are you guys getting shipping info or do they just show up?
I don't get any shipping confirmation email.... until customs contact me!

Lux morning session, mini-elb, 1 sleeve and 2 susceptors in a capsule, loaded with moroccan kief rosin. It seems the add of metal increased clouds production.... after a slightly longer initial heat up. Nothing crazy although... but I'm still on stock settings.
About flowers... I'm thinking to use a inhalater glass capsule with a small load and a diy susceptor in order to get the air heated by susceptor before to hit the flowers, I'll try to keep some distance between susceptor and load in order to minimize conduction... sounds good but I'll bet it will not work in real life but I have to try it (was thinking to use a mesh pad as a susceptor or some ss316 wire or ...).
