Discontinued Ghost MV1

Squeal! I'm getting really great vapor -- FINALLY!

I just watched a couple of videos on the MV1. Have you guys seen these:

Sneakypete's vid. is great, but a shame that he's basED some of what he says pre-firmware upgrade so it's not accurate. He says to plan on only getting one great hit from a crucible & only 2 draws. And he got the 2nd mp upgrade, but not the 3rd. I'm certain that if he had the mp & firmware updates he'd get more than 1 good hit & more than 2 hits out of a crucible. But all in all a positive review back from Nov.

And Vapefiend's vid:

Those RYOT cases that @SirCrackKillaH photo'd at Champs got me to thinking. I'm waiting for GV to offer that hard case for sale. But in the interim, trying to figure out my measurements to put the MV1 & a couple of crucibles (housed in @Ratchett's crucible holder) in a case like this as it's all I need when I go out:

https://www.ryot.com/ryotr-smellsafer-large-hardcasetm-in-black.html

Then I'd like something larger like this that will hold the vape when it's in that GV case. Something like the RYOT Piper Case, but without the flap. There's a couple of videos on youtube showing it.

@Dazza78 has got a lot of stuff packed in it:

Yes I have lots of stuff packed in mine I also have both foam inserts in place they can be removed it’s a lovely little bag

@Summer mine is an older unit that has the latest updates. Any info I have about sales or distribution is almost a month old at this point, so you can probably disregard anything I said about timing. I am confident that Ghost is taking care of customers so if you have an issue, give them a holler. I met them at Champs last month and was very impressed. I’ve been using the MV-1 ever since and have it dialed in now. Last night I was able to fully extract the loads without overdoing it, which was my last hurdle. And it’s only gonna get better from here...

This is OT, but I'll you'll give you 1 final reply. :) From the very early on, sparse comments it seems that the increased restriction is being found to be beneficial in its ability to provide better performance (tweaking) in attaining the desired result, i.e. a quality, vapor-laden hit. Just take a look at @AJS' vids on the thread.

Be aware that I have no dog in this fight as this handheld style of wooden vape doesn't appeal to me. I just like following the these threads for the internal workings.

My original concern. @Other Side on the history of why carb added -- S&G homage to Dynavap or to make it "easier to use"? What some consider the defining way to use the Mi1. That might be a struggle with the redesign. @AJS largely, btw, agrees.

Off topic? I'm not so sure. The Ghost MV1 also garners attention for open airflow.

Listen for "Ghost whispers" of a carb or airflow restriction coming on the MV2. With people remarking there's "no vapor" on the first hit, restricting airflow is a possible "solution". Ask yourself if that would change the defining characteristics of the vape.

Out.

I haven't used an MV1 but I know that with every other fully open airflow vapourizer I've used, I can produce fairly thick vapour with a light draw at temperatures as low as 165°C (330°F). The catch is that it takes a long time before it thickens, 30-45 seconds depending on strain. Before then, I'm getting tasty vapour but it's thin. If I pull hard, I'll get the same vapour density much sooner, after about 15 seconds. Everything else is constant, the only variable is draw strength.

Individual draw strength varies considerably, but we don't have a standard way to measure it. I know from experience that what a lot of people consider a light draw is way too hard. People like that can overpower even a huge heater if you give them a completely unrestricted airflow. I'm not saying this explains some of the reports about the MV1, but you never know.

My MV1 when it produces nice clouds I really like it. Unfortunately, I swear it's random on whether it will perform.

I try full air flow, less air flow, and grind and pack the crucible in the way I'm told to by you all.

I keep in on two red lights the whole time. I charge the battery, and I drain the battery.

I keep the stainless lids clean (and that's a chore).

But it's random at best on performance, unfortunately. I'll try it right now and see :)

That's how I felt.

HOWEVER, a few weeks ago I got the latest greatest heatsink/mouthpiece.
All of the inconsistencies are gone. The mouthpiece slides in and out like butter.
The heatsink stays seated in the silicone and there's no leaking.

I don't know what the intent is by GV in regards to getting this 2nd mp assembly (or Mk2 -- have no idea why) in the hands of the people who purchased the vape prior to it being included with the units now sold. I got my replacement vape 4 weeks ago & these had just come into the warehouse. I'm guessing they're manually swapping out these in the old units. Eventually, the new units will come from the mfr. with the new Mk2s after their US warehouse MV1 stock is depleted.

Start a thread on VLF asking how to obtain acess to one. Be sure to reference @ghostvapesofficial in the post. Anyone having vapor problems should post on the created thread. (Hey, there is strength in #s) Everyone should have access to this mp because the consistency & improvement in the vapor makes a world of difference. I don't care if you have to pay for it, the improvement is that good. So start a thread & post!

So I got a replacement a few weeks ago, and I have the old heat sink assembly. It's definitely not air tight. Not sure how that impacts things but I doubt it's for the better.

I'll try posting on the other thread, thx!

FYI:

Hi [Brewervapesalot]

Whitney from GHOST Vapes here again. Unfortunately, the new heat sinks are not yet available, we had a few from samples we had made from Champs. We will be making them available as soon as we have sufficient numbers. I can send you another heat sink if you like, if you feel that your current one is experiencing an issue.

Best,

Whitney

I would have posted on another forum, but I generally didn't want to set up another account on another forum, and generally feel like direct correspondence with customer service should be method of first resort. If they ignored me, i think that's when we pressure them as a group/more publically...

Based on my experience, they will make good as soon as they can. They were very generous with their replacement unit for me and they shipped the unit prior to receiving my "faulty" unit.

I want to agree and give kudos to ghost specifically for their customer service and their communication as a company.

It's clear that they really are trying and that should be appreciated and hopefully that will continue into their future success.

I'm fairly certain they'll just mail a new one to everyone who bought a MV1 when they're ready (though they may not tell you ahead of time). That's how they handled it when they started polishing the ceramic heatsink inserts.

Some of you know the problems I have had opening the crucible door. I had to use a guitar pic to get it to open. I contacted them on facebook and after several interactions this is what virgil wrote me:

Hi Dale! We want you to be happy with your MV1. We noticed you had been dealing with this issue for two weeks. It's not uncommon for a brand new device to be a tad stiff, but we certainly don't expect the stiffness to persist after initial uses. Ultimately, we stand by our product and our QA standards, and we feel based on your experience and our correspondence that your MV1 falls short of those standards. One thing I did notice was that the name on the original order does not match yours, Dale. Did you perhaps receive the MV1 as a gift? Looking forward to resolving this for you. Cheers, Virgil GHOST Vapes Customer

Freaking awesome me thinks! Incredible customer service. I can’t say enough good things about how good they have chosen to take care of me. This is more like what family would do rather than business!

:2c: MV1 has been a daily driver since September. I sent nearly every other portable out to pasture and agree with most everyone in the threads that GHOST Vapes is stellar in cs and communications. They will make things right if there is even a minutiae of fault with the unit. Mine came with a broken ceramic sleeve and I cried quietly to myself. Yet before the tears were dry a complete heat sink arrived at the door with kind apologies from Whitney and Patrick. There were issues with the earliest mp and scraping againt the ceramic sleeve. GHOST speedily corrected that.

Happy to know there are improvements on the horizon, heat sink seals and other things witnessed at Champs. Btw, still running mine on the og firmware and don't really feel the need to use the app, but good to have it there for the taking. Just lazy and haven't gotten to it.

As with all tech and vapes imo, esp portables, technique and material cure-strain-grind are unique to each user and each machine. Practice, modify, refine the skills and lift off !

I got one of the first units and it was super buggy. Had it in my closet until 2 weeks ago. Put in the last update and it performs way better. There is still a huge issue, only works with a completely full charge. The second it loses a bar the power drops and vape production is off. I get one session per battery...... It's like my mi when the 18560 has only .25 charge left.

Does anyone know when the update to the firmware will happen that fixes this issue?

I should point out I can get more then one session but when the battery level drops the littlest bit vapor production drops to the point that I shut it down unpack it and put it in my.mi. it takes one seassion for that to happen. I have two batteries, happens with both of them.

I definitely get more than that. Even if I’m on a single blinking light, I can just go to max temp for herb and still do OK. Perhaps try manual calibration to give it a bit of a boost?

When the bars go down I try at 2 or 3 yellow but then go to red if I don't like my production I always get great extraction.

My batteries (6)2 lights at 12 draws 1 light about 20.
