Discontinued The Grasshopper

I was disappointed when combustion happened. But I took a 30 second powerful rip through water with a brand new battery. I think I mentioned I haven’t had that issue at 4.75. The GH got super hot, I could hold it, but my lips could not have handled that big of a rip.

A small complaint is that if you fill up the chamber fully the herb does not get evenly brown like my Mighty does. The heat up time on my GH is unbelievable compared to my Mighty.

I’m still loving it. I have no idea how to tell if it really is the newest version. We shall see how reliable it is.

I really need new batteries for my Mighty, but won’t send it in until I know my GH is reliable. I hope to hear more stories of people getting old units back and more new one shipped.

Hi @Jayd0g420, welcome here (I'm late to the welcoming party, still worth doing ;))

I agree with some others, if I know that combustion can happen on max, I'm happy to just run it on 4.5 or 4.75 and get consistent awesome results ;) My hopper does a great job on 5, but definitely isn't super close to combustion, so I'm happy to run it on 5 all the time. If I got one with new internals that needed 4 for the same result, that's fine too ;)

Yeah, regarding sending back your Mighty, if I were you I'd at least wait 'til it looks like Hopper Labs have mostly cleared their backlog, so you know you can get it fixed quickly if there is an issue. I'm waiting for this myself, just for a small issue I have.

I find that filling the hopper pretty full it does still get nicely evenly brown, as long as I don't tamp it down at all.

I'm very happy you're having a great time with the Hopper. May it live long and happy!

As for the green lights, who knows what weird and wonderful testing things they throw in @slcdbco's Hopper. We should all be so lucky :p

He mentioned further up that it's blue for him, as they have been up 'til now.

My GH never combusted no matter the temp or the draw duration.

Now, after 18 months of very careful use and care, it is indeed back for its first RMA and I will just have to see what its like when it comes back.

But never any combustion in my past experience with it.

The first rule of FC is Be Nice. This is not being nice...

While I totally love that attitude and how this place is kept nice and tidy, the butt-stuff you quoted referred to this:

It really hurts my butt that someone can now order a Grasshopper from a 3rd party seller ...

Again: not criticizing you for doing what you're doing, just trying to set things straight.

My GH never combusted no matter the temp or the draw duration.

When I bought my 2nd Hopper in December 17 at a german shop (serial number 13,000ish) I realized it got _way_ hotter than the one I had before. I used the first one on 4,5 - 5 and never even got a darker brown color, with the new one it got totally toasted on 4,5 and had some black parts even when I used it on 5 once. Few more draws or maybe dryer material migfht have lead to combustion here easily. I loved that actually cause it went along with considerably better battery life.

Ah, this is what happens when I have to moderate a thread I don't follow. You're right, I should have quoted the whole post and probably the next one as well. It was the overall tone of @guyonthecouch's last couple of posts that got him reported and to which I was reacting.

Edited to add, since you were already reported:

Thanks for the welcome here. It’s weird posting after reading for so long. I never had anything to add to the conversations

So still no combustion at nearly 5. That one time it did, it was very dry herb and like I’ve said a really big hit. I don’t know if I mentioned it originally but not all of the herb combusted. It was the smaller bits and the stuff at the bottom.

I like to hit it at 3 durning the day. I always prefer lower temps durning the day and higher at night to help with sleep. I have any autoimmune disease and pot has been a life saver. Literally, it saved me from my terrible depression that would have lead to suicide. My dad had the same disease and it wasn’t so lucky. Pot also helps with many other things related to my illness. The GH alouds me to do smaller sessions more often compared to the longer wait time with the Mighty.

I definitely will be waiting. The only other vaporizer I have the is the Volcano and that is no longer convenient to use or possible most of the time.

I don’t always need a full bowl for medication. But the next time I think I do need close to a full bowel, I’ll fill it up. With the Mighty I usually add to each micro dose in the bowl and by evening time I’d have a full bowl or more to hit at 390 or 410. I might try that with the GH.

Yep still blue light for ready and red while heating. Red light slow flash for charging and slow blue for charged. Charging with the unit itself takes longer than putting it on my Nitecore charger. Also the LEDs seem brighter on one side than the other. I’ll get 4.2v on my nitecore when fully charged.

Good news for anyone waiting for repairs in the UK. Vapefiend are expecting a shipment of parts to be sent this week and in the Uk withiin 2 weeks.
Nice one. I was thinking of contacting him as my grasshopper is performing at all well and I didn't want to have to send it to the US . Time to open an RMA

HI guys and gals - as mentioned, after 18 months my bronze Ti had to go back to HL very recently due to cop lights.

I first opened an ticket with them on 21 Feb and on 22 Feb I received instructions to return it to them

On March 1st, I did get a confirmation from HL via their web based warranty claim system when they received the box. Rather pro forma message that "we got it"

Today I got the following:

Hi Baron23 (sic),
We have received your Grasshopper. Thank you for packing your Grasshopper so mindfully! We are slowly but steadily processing repairs and shipments.
Kind regards,
Olivia

Considering what has been going on with their process reengineering, not bad response times, IMO. Not great, but they just tossed the place so I'm a bit more understanding and would much rather have a well repaired and well tested GH a bit later than a crappy one right away.

I did ask Olivia for a rough order of magnitude estimate on turn around time, and will wait and see if I get a response.

Cheers

I can’t add a picture from my phone for you guys. But the charging lights are the same.

I was able to login in at GHL and my GH next w says shipped.

So I tested out my unit last night. I love this thing. It’s so awesome. I did find a possible problem. I turned it up to five (not 11, that would be cool) and I hit it super hard through water and it combusted. It was nothing but ash after that. Giant rip for sure. So I haven’t tried that again. I could not get it to it at 4.5. Do be careful with giant rips up that high.

Im glad to be part of the group now. I sure hope this thing is reliable. My Mighty needs service.
That's the exact reason both my hoppers are at HL waiting for service now. That's pretty much the only way I use my GHs, is hitting it hard at 5. BUT, in my case, even when I turned it down under 5, ripping it hard through water still made it combust.

So I got nothing good to say.

So new customers come before Warranty services I suppose.

Sent mine in mid-December.

And, asking about He order for 2 Ti’s I placed during the coupon offer:

Hi Joe,

My apologies, your order is still in queue to ship. With our variable production batch sizes I cannot offer a concrete date for when it will ship. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

kind regards,
Olivia

I always experienced the opposite of combustion. The re accruing issue I kept running into was the hopper would be severely under preforming ie green abv on temp 5.
Mine 2. So frustrating cause every now and again it works properly and I keep chasing that experience but I've given up on my current one.i have alternatives but none do what the grasshopper in full flow is capable of

You nailed it with that line. After multiple consistently failed RMAs Caroline asked me to take videos multiple times to show the lack of vapor production. After going back and forth with more videos and failed RMAs I eked it out of Caroline that they were not actually testing the hopper at all.

PFE received today. I wouldn't be that upset about the fact it got shipped out separately, but to receive in this condition? Unacceptable.

Anyone notice any rust stains on your new performance front end?

Could that be rust? Neither SS nor Ti should rust. Is it just a bit of oil or machining residue that you can remove with ISO alcohol or similar? That's what it looks like to me.

If that's all, I wouldn't be upset by it. Even vapcaps can have machining residue on when you receive them and you're recommended to clean them before use, so I don't find it unacceptable. Of course if it's rust and some degradation that would be a different story, but I think that's unlikely.

Reply from Olivia on ROM estimate on RMA return of my GH:

Hi Baron23 (sic),
I apologize for the delays. Due to our recent lab upgrade, we have quite the service queue built up. I would guess it will be at least a few weeks here.
Kind regards,
Olivia

wo weeks for hopper labs can mean as much as multiple months

Where did two weeks come from?

From Olivia: I would guess it will be at least a few weeks here.

Yes, its vague, its not a schedule commitment, but at least they told me that its a bit of a black hole there right now and this response gives me reason to be patient.

All good with me, wish they were more responsive but again I'm willing to see if their recent significant changes will have a positive impact on quality and turn around times.

Was referring to past delays. What I was implying is that if two weeks can mean a few months, imagine how long "a few weeks" could mean.

I'm thinking we'll start seeing warranty returns sometime in April. Just a guess though, I hope I'm right as a working hopper in time for the 20th would be sweet!

Any word on the battery charger I bought when it first went on sale and was supposed to ship in December?!?! I have to ask here because every time I email GH to ask they basically yell at me for being a customer who wants what they order and not a ton of emails about how you can buy different colored hoppers (even when they’re not making those!) The thing should come fully stocked with brand new batteries at this point.
