The "drop-in tech" to me adds so much more flavor in comparison just because you're (at least on a small scale) allowing for the terpenes to boil off closer to their normal boiling temperature as opposed to be burned off by being immediately immersed in temperatures well above their boiling point. This is probably only part of the reason because most terpenes are roughly in the 300-400F range, I believe.

Haven't been able to test this with a coil for more exact temperatures but it's definitely noticeable even in just the basic torch/quartz scenario.

Very noticeable in my opinion. Smoother too. It's interesting how much longer the oil retains color too.

Do you have the insert in before or do you fill the insert and then drop it in?

I haven't tried drop tech yet as I was trying to minimize variables initially for head-to-head testing with the Liger 20mm. That is definitely on the list though and the whole reason I ordered a couple inserts. Wondering what the best way to remove hot inserts is?

Just a bit of information from what I’ve learned from doing the insert tech , i’ve been having my gavel set to about 550° give or take 10 or 15° (Keep in mind my normal set temp is 535° for it I find that the gap between the nail and insert you need to raise the temp some) from there I set my glob settings, first setting is to heat the nail up which I set at +50°/60 sec that will raise my set temp to just over 610°ish. Then I wait 10 seconds and drop the insert and cap it and wait for the melt and start my hit. Now here’s where I have been experimenting a bit- at first I just let the glob timer be done and then do a second heat up of about +15-20° for 30ish seconds and then let drop back to set temp and if needed boost again if it’s was a lager hit or just take the insert out and drop it in a cup of iso for instant clean,
NOW for what I have been experimenting with recently it’s been tricky to pull off but once you get your desired temperature down for the flavor and the vapor you want just keep dialing in when you select the 3 different glob settings or more. You start out with the same technique as I do before it’s jsut adding 2 drop temps and an up temp as glob settings (or what you like) I first start out with the same settings as first explained 550°Ish and a +50/60 glob and dropping it in after 10secs and still waiting till it melts but now you keep your eye on the screens with coil temp, set temp and set glob modes when hitting, as the temp adjusts back to set temp I am now doing a drop temp of minus 25-35°s for about 30 seconds (and this is where the amazing flavor comes in since you are basically making it work like torching a nail) so a “-25°/30”. Then just letting it ramp back up to set temp, and now comes into play with the size of hit and how you like your vapor but you can set another glob for about minus 10-15° just before it goes back to set temp (I like about 15° under set coil temp to press is again) for your desired time or a up temp for desired time and temp,
Now keep in mind these temps are on a gavel which runs a little hot IMO and it takes time trust me your not gonna get it perfect the first or probably second try, it’s taken me plenty of time to just figure out how to manipulate my hits and even now depending on the type of material and size always brings in different results making it a tricky and time consuming process and sometimes wasteful, But always fun

This is for with the hex nail

I haven't messed with inserts (besides the one I JUST tried and very very slowly uptempted it cos I underestimated how much heat I'd need lol) but thanks for the good info for when I get there!

What banger/insert are you running? I only have these budget china inserts and the FDC bangers, but curious if people are risking their higher end gear day in and day out! Regardless it seems to be a matter of practice, as I don't seem to be channeling my inner @ataxian anymore and breaking every banger I get, the day I get it! I saw bangers around $150 (I wanna say EQ...) and that's about the most I'd be willing to risk :whoa:

Also, I'm just curious if any more info was pushed forward to you regarding the 2.1 (??) update @mutten840

Didn't see this before, but a pair of tweezers. The ones that come with the AWS Gemini milligram scale are good enough for me to pick up the insert from inside the banger.

I got some cork coasters that I have around my desk (it was like 4 for $6 on amazon or something. I got ones with a lip around the end so my shit doesn't roll away ) and I have 1 designated for my dabber/tweezers/insert/bubblecap, and the hot inserts go on those just fine.

(edit: here are the coasters in case anyone cares
https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Home...?srs=5316835011&ie=UTF8&qid=1520822555&sr=8-9)

I saw Eternal Quarts have some with silicone+tweezers or some crap? If you're worried about scratching (and I guess I would be if i wasn't using china shit) maybe using those would be nice?

edit: can't find the ones I was talking about anymore. I'm just going to keep using the ones that came with the scale for now.

oh yeah and as we are now inching towards the mid point of March, any new word on Round 2 getting in our hands?

SOON is what I've been hearing for quite a few weeks ;)

Seriously though, I'm really hoping for Thursday the 15th of March cause last Thursday the word was another week. I didn't think the coils would take weeks for shipping but I guess they're on the slow boat from China.

@exmex its looking like a week since they are waiting on coils to come in. But other than that, they are working on getting the latest patch ready to release and also working on the port of the touch screen units to the new OS

Is the delay for just the 25mm coils or all size coils?

Apparently all the coils. I'm waiting on a 20mm coil.

Edit:

Anyone try these 25mm quartz bangers with opaque bottom? Pretty much the same prices as FatDabCo's sales plus 10% off right now.

Mine has border hopped twice now, I believe the label said something like Royal Mail Service o something, I can find the box and check the label though to be sure. I think it was valued at like $100 and shipping wasn't to bad at all

Awesome, that's what I needed to know. Thanks a bunch!

Guess I joined you guys. I ordered a 25mm coil. I'm going to use it with my jcat sv3 mod or catsv3 for short.

Guess I'll try a 25mm banger but the breaking part kind of has me concerned. How hard is it to learn to properly adjust the coil to banger fit?

Okay so quick browse of the last couple of pages and just had a few things pop into my head.

Drop Tech Insert Removal: If you insert is slotted use a dental pick and gently lift it out so when it comes out it's hanging on the pick. We'll be covering this stuff in updates to come, btw. We have inserts of our own just very little time for testing right now.

HN-01 Issues & Updates: We're using a build of Dab OS/2 on the one HN-01 we have here right now and it's working well. It really does seem to fix the few major issues some of the units have seen software wise. We completely admit that it's taken us too long to fix them but it's tough to stay a float and also fix issues that require a major overhaul of the code...but we're really close at this point.

In general we've kinda been fighting for survival since the company started. Right now we're extremely close to a big turning point which is: we might actually be 100% caught up soon (along with being able to finally assemble orders as they come in). Once we're past that everything will get a lot easier for everyone and the wait time / hype train problem will be squashed.

Read what @mutten840 has written in the past few pages, and don't turn the coil on until you're 100% sure you got it right (and attached the o-ring stabilizer)

It's not that bad. It's frustrating. Just take your time, that's the most important part. If you can't afford to break the bangers, why are you rushing? Wish I could tell myself that.

Anyway, not sure there's any difference to those opaque bottom bangers and the ones from FDC but for the price I may scoop one up to just to try once payday lands. Would the reactor style ones be worth a try too for the same price? Seems they may work @25mm thickness...?

Yeah maybe I'll stick to the sv3 for now. I'm not very patient ATM.

Check my post a page or two back. It took me less than 3 minutes to loosen the coil maybe 1mm and slide it very snugly over the banger. Maybe beginner's luck but the first one sure was easy.

@muunch it sounds like it might be a delay possibly in the software due to the way you are using it. Do you run a default firmware on your phone. Or do you use a hybrid firmware
I had this happen a few times and found that if I turn off the coil, then disconnect from the device, and then close the app. I do not get the random turn on of the coil any further

The patch is very close to dropping and it should help with this issue =)

I don't even manually have to disconnect from the device to lose connection on my phone though. Whether using the chrome webpage or the app. I will have to swipe away chrome/the app and reload it from the app drawer to do the "hydrating/established" process, otherwise it just sits with the blue "ON" light without really being controlled by anything.

I will just go back to using my PC I guess. I am using a custom ROM on my phone, but no issues otherwise. I think I lose connection when my phone screen timeout/locks. Not sure. I was more worried about it turning on when I turned it off but will be more careful now that I know this can happen...
