So getting back on topic, @phattpiggie any more designs for an @Pipes split induction heater based on a wooden enclosure?

Would an entry on a future PP list provide an opportunity to acquire one?

Where was this discussed!? Sounds awesome! I like wood in my pocket! I prefer it to metal because it doesn't damage other things in your pocket.

I like the idea of splitting the battery away from the induction coils so I don't have to hold a bulky heavy unit over my VonG and bubbler. Also I'm thinking if the cable between the IC and Power unit used connectors then the lengths could be altered for out door/on the move use where the Power unit could be in a pocket but the IC could be placed in a jacket sleeve. Ultimately offering an awesome on the go stealth option.

What happens if someone is willing to send it to you? Any idea of the Shipping cost?

You know what I've imagined? A pid controlled ih where the induction coil is attached with a cable to the battery and control box! I didn't realize it wasn't that unlikely to occur.

Using a locking xlr cable might work? I dunno much about electronics hardware. If you had one unit that could be both wired or connected back to the box to work like normal. You could also use this design to have a really small desktop mains powered unit. Where the battery box is part of the pretty supply and you have a tiny log vape like coil too hear your herb!

stay tuned, im about half way done with a prototype im working on.. if it works, hopefully i can create a working model in CAD that anyone could take and get 3d printed.

then you could take that design to anywhere local (or online 3d printers) for printing. it would still require the user to make an extension cable, desolder the battery pack from the heater driver, and solder on ends to connect to the extension cable, but its a start!

its going SLOW in that, i live in a 1 bed/1 bath condo. so i dont have a shed, access to many tools, or hell even a yard.. so i am cutting balsa wood with an xacto knife.. fingers are numb, and tips of them are calloused like an old miner, but i only have to make 1 model before i can create the final model in CAD that should be 3D printable

I'll ping @Pipes and get on a skelly list. Even if this doesn't happen I'd like one just to play with.

I already have a PS and a PS Mini so I'll never be without an IH although I'm lending my PS to a friend who been afflicted by the dreaded hopper cop lights.

I know you are snowed under at the moment (recently quite literally, I was snowed out ) so I'm more than happy to wait my turn.

Exactly, I'm sure I already have a 10-16amp psu that would be easy to amend for this use. A barrel to mini XLR adapter would do the trick.

Leave all the BMS and charging circuits in the battery box and just keep the induction coils and gubbins (technical term) in the IH box.

That's a great idea, maybe even upload it to thingyverse or similar.

Personally I'm going to get @phattpiggie to carve a wood/acrylic enclosure. Similar to his PoC unit. But 3D printing would open up the possibility for many others globally.

For me that's no problem, I'm no master solder artist but I've hacked many a cable together and soldered a few circuits in my time. Got the scars to prove it

@szai shipping should be around the $20 mark but I'm just guessing and going off the amounts I would pay.
Size is not the problem it's the weight.

I have some locking 5.5/2.1mm connectors and had hoped to get a set up where you could plug in to a battery pack or mains PSU.

@GreenHopper you have no idea how hectic this weekend is looking to be, but it's all for the greater good.

My 2 piece is just that, IH in one end and the BMS and battery sled in the other.

How about a triangular sled so the batteries were a little more compact?

Greenhopper give it a few more years and we could well see fingers growing back once they've managed to splice the right genes together.

not sure how a triangle sled could save space (having a hard time imagining it).

but that was the idea w 3d printing.. they can even 3d print wood filament now, so the choice is really upto the user and how much they wanted to pay to print it..

i would think metal would need some dielectric coating after its all said and done with, or maybe some thin foam padding for any circuitry that would happen to touch the metal (BMS board comes to mind).

i am also using RCA phono connectors for this iteration.. they have quite a small footprint, and @Pipes seems to think they should handle the load just fine

I recently trialed contact lenses and was specifically told not to lick them. I told them my tongue can't reach any of my balls so it's not an issue. Not only did they not laugh they actually said very sternly "no, don't lick them* before you put them in".

*apparently the old school lenses could dry out and licking them was an acceptable method of rehydrating them. Not so with the new squishy ones.

@GreenHopper been wearing contacts for years now, 30 day wear which you can sleep in. I can make 3 pairs last me all year.
Hydrogen Peroxide them and they are good to go again, they are made out of the same stuff as some of the ones that last a year that you remove everyday.
I told my optician this and he didn't say no, I throw mine when they start to not feel right.

Been bloody hard work keeping this trip out to Spain under wraps so here's a few bit and pieces to show how it looks.

@Mr. Me2 I do feet and inches and stone for weight. MPG in the car. Used to be pints at the pub and eighths, quarters and ounces for weed.

Measurements are always mm other than when I was in construction. Then I'd use the nearest inch rather than mm, easier to write down.

oh, i see what you mean now.. that could very well be for version 2

my balsa wood proto didnt work, (that) wood is way to weak to manipulate the way i wanted to do it. so i just made a CAD model, and exported it to STL file, then sent it off to a guy a few hours away from me. he has a 3d print farm, and should be printing as we speak.

once i get that back, just solder on some RCA female plugs to the heater and to the battery pack and, fingers crossed, i should have a 2 piece unit similar to yours, only made of ABS.

looks like your trip went well and you had a good time. nice pics.. didnt realize you were so short its not every day i see someone taller than me, but if randy is 6'9", that'd do it! that bests me by 2" (or just over 5 cm for those across the pond)

how's your "project" coming? got any new info to tease us with? imagine if you could have demo'ed that at the show along with the rest of the lineup.

edit: clarified that this particular wood i was using, balsa, was way to weak, for the process i was using to construct an enclosure... wood in general would be ok to use, with the correct process

I'm working thru orders and trying to spend a bit of time on other stuff that's going on. An hour here and there will hopefully help pull things together.

It's been bitter here today the windchill has brought it down to -9C/16f.
Spent part of the day cutting glass.
It all sits well with the Bocote
