I hope they sort you out @amethystwolf you sound like a big fan & with 4 lids you’re already pretty invested.
I noticed a timber lid in a post here & had to go to the site to find it. That zebra wood lid is classy & now I want one, wish I’d have known it was available when I bought mine.
I’d be interested to know what temps everyone uses, mine change all the time, currently at 410 & 105 calibration.
I have noticed a blue coloured "tip icon” on the app when you turn the calibration to 111%. Turns out it’s a link to a YouTube video of the Spinal Tap up to eleven clip that you can watch while you combust at 11.

I din't notice the blue tip icon. I will look for it if I get my unit replaced. That's pretty funny.

How many draws are you getting from each fresh battery?

The battery life is good. I haven’t counted the draws but I don’t even need to use the second battery I just alternate them. If I had to guess I’d say around 6 sessions per charge with maybe 5 to 7 draws each with me also activating the heat accidentally quite a lot as I pick it up in between :)

Damn! Can I have yours? lol. I want mine to work like that. I'm also going to try your temp/calibration settings if they replace mine.

5 to 7 draws per charge is terrible. It doesn't matter how long you're pulling, something is wrong with the battery or unit.

I've never had that bad a charge.

I’d ask them if they tested the capacity of the battery. They should have drained the battery and set it on a charger that measures capacity in mAh.

Could also be a software glitch in your unit that keeps the Bluetooth module on constantly.

Are you leaving the app open a lot?

Good idea. I'll mention that when I hear from them again. I usually leave the app open I guess. When I get my replacement, I'll make sure to close it after each use.

I don't think he was talking about simply closing the app, but some error that keeps bluetooth on in the vape as well. For instance, with the Davinci IQ, @Davinci_vaporizer recommended taking the battery out if you were going to let it sit for a while as the Bluetooth seeking of the vape will drain it over time.

I am suggesting closing the app as a testing control. Since it’s a real-time / constant on connection when the app is open.

I actually just called the rep to ask about the bluetooth/app idea. But, she said that the bluetooth is a receiver and doesn't drain the battery even with the app open. (I will still try it when I get a new unit)

BTW, I also asked if they'd drained the battery and tested the maH as suggested above. She said they did and it came back normal.

It is not just a receiver. That’s just silly.

I’m curious what the battery voltage is when it blinks red. Man I wish I could run this unit through my testing lab.

Do you have a volt meter?

I’m going to run one of my batteries down and check the cutoff voltage. It is currently just charged but rested at 8.3V, which is perfect.

Vaping a battery down, the sacrifices I make for science.

;)

This could take a day or two. I only vape at night.

The ultimate sacrifice! I don't have a volt meter. BTW, I got the impression that the rep was familiar with this forum, because I mentioned that I wanted to have them look at some things I'd learned here. After I asked about the bluetooth thing, she said that was something that people here had mentioned but it wasn't the case. Maybe this has come up earlier in the thread.

Fernanda, if you are reading this - please send my replacement firefly soon!

Modnote: Back to back posts merged

Great news! The rep just called to confirm they will send me a brand new unit. She still wants to talk me through a session and send me some tips. Not sure about the session, since they are only available during my work hours, and I don't smoke during work. But I'm going to definitely read their tips and try the settings and suggestions people have mentioned in this thread.

Will post update when the new unit arrives. Thank you, everyone, for the help!

They really are a good company and people. These things just take time to figure out.

My FF2 has become unusable--hard to draw to the point of no enjoyment. (Then again, I used it a couple of times a day for more than a year with quite resinous herb!) I also found the batteries very finicky. Still, I think its an amazing device and I haven't seen or used any better at any price. Until the clogging, I found the company consistently helpful. The entire vaping industry is growing like over fertilized plants and the vapes themselves are evolving and improving at an astronomical rate. I have like a dozen vapes at this point--not one is perfect at all times or for all times.

Hey friend,

did you try to contact @Lozo and ask for one of his bigger-holed screens?
They definitely reduce the draw resistance by a good degree... I'm pretty confident it could make you fall in love again... Well worth a try! :)

Maybe you have someone near you who could replace the screen... It's pretty easy in general and does not take long - but some dexterity is needed

Still draining battery. I think it’s lasting this long just to spite me.

I will prevail :sherlock:

Edit: Got it done 7.4V under load (sag) then 7.7V (rested state)

That makes sense for cells this size.

Has anyone used the @Lozo screen? Wonder if performance has improved.

I find the vape gets too hot while I need to go much higher in temp and extraction is weaker.. Never went to 220C plus 111% overdrive for erb, abv not as dark as usual when on 220C (100%).

Lozo's screen is thicker than the original one plus it's a different material. SS vs. Ti (original). These factors rob and distribute heat differently.
I'd love to have a thin Ti disc with @Lozo -sized holes :)

Bit like putting a oversized race exhaust on a unmodified engine and wondering why the performance got worse.

Just throws the system out of balance.

@vapen00b yes completely agree with what you said. For me the draw is much easier, but yes the FF2 body gets hotter, I've found the ABV to be more even throughout and I agree with what you said about it being lighter too but I feel I get full extraction after going up a bit in heat towards the end of the bowl.

@Boden the thinnest steel I could get quickly for this experiment was 0.5 mm, way too thick but it does show that there's potential to experiment with the hole sizing. I mentioned to @vapen00b that I'll see if I can get a thinner Ti screen made with my hole dia and see how that works. In my opinion the performance is better for me now than with the original screen but that's just my opinion for sure.

I had a bad experience last night. I am new to Firefly, and have been using this unit for a couple of weeks without problems. Then, last night, boom, combustion.

I have the unit set to 400 deg.

The night before last I did a fresh bowl. I ground dry herb with a Santa Cruz shredder, then strained out the fines so that I have a coarse and pretty uniform grind. I always measure by weight, and I used 0.16 grams and packed the bowl rather tight and there was a slight mound at the top of the bowl that slightly pressed up against the top glass, just like others here have instructed - the material is dry and does not compress much. I took three hits and put it away for the next night. All three hits were perfect.

Last night I stirred the bowl from the previous night. There was one small charred spot - there is always a charred spot, it seems - and the rest looked fine, some green and some tan.

Eight seconds into my first draw of the evening I got combustion. Why would this occur? The temperature set point is way below combustion. I double checked the setting in the app, and it is still set to 400 deg. My draw technique was the same as always, slow and long. I was so suprised when this happened that it took a bit for me to realize what was happening.

How could combustion have happened? I cannot explain it.

and packed the bowl rather tight....

Looks like you're over packing. It should not be packed tight...

Unless you stir well after each pull.

Else you will combust....

Two options to fill a firefly 2 in my opinion: (1) loose and below the rim. Tapping the unit should stir the material after one draw. Or (2) slightly over pack, loosely, tamp ever so slightly, and then stir after each and every pull.

The first way is quick, easy, and works great. The second way can give you a couple-three slightly larger clouds, compared to the first way.

I agree...I’ve combusted in the FF, below the concentrates setting, several times. Pack really tight, pull too hard for just a second too long....suddenly the FF is a pipe.
