Discontinued Ghost MV1

Summer

Long Island, NY
OK, I've now had an additional 2 crucibles tonight, so that's 6 since I got the replacement unit last week. I have to say that based on my limited experience that I'm delighted with performance of this replacement. Vapor on the first hit. :o On these 2 crucibles (unknown strain of sativa), I'm got 5 vapor hits on level 5 for the 1st crucibile. The 1st 4 were great & on the 5th one I could taste the popcorn undertone. So this is where I just dump the abv.

OK, I thought this was the all-in-one mp assembly (known as Mk2 -- have no idea why this acronymn). But, no, this is the interim upgrade.

"To clarify on the heatsink - this is not an 'all-in-one', it comes apart and reassembles just like the old one (or it should!). The parts will all look identical to your previous heatsink components but some changes have been made to materials."

"Don't worry, you can still clean the mouthpiece/heatsink assembly just as you did the old one - this is not yet the Mk2 fully redesigned assembly but has undergone significant change in terms of the materials used in order to avoid the problems we experienced last year with grinding/scratching and to reduce or remove air bypasses between the stem and seal. As before, iso can be used to clean the components other than the seal and cap which should be kept away to prevent them being damaged by the alcohol."

-- GhostOps

(I gotta insert something here that's been bothering me -- is it an English thing to write 'heatsink & not "heat sink"? :hmm:)

I don't know what material the 1st gasket was made out of, but it feels either like rubber or a combo of rubber & silicone, & is super dense & hard. But this replacement gasket is soft & pliable & less than 1/2 the density. It's comparable to the green silicone within -- it's squishy. So in essence, instead of having a 1 or 2mm gap in the back of the heat sink because the gasket material was so dense that it would push the top plastic piece up so you had that air gap. Now, the gap is like 1/2mm at most. There's also 2 bi-layering indentations in the gasket front for assumably better grasp. (You'll see all this in @SirCrackHill's pic below.) But there is a trade off: The silicone, having lost the level of density --thus being squishy) is prone to getting caught between the top plastic piece & the heat sink when I'm coupling them together during reassembly. I know I'm gonna have to be ever so careful as to not nip the silicone by catching it between the 2 pieces. It's so soft that I have no doubt that if it got caught when coupling those parts (kind of like you catch you skin in a zipper -- ouchie mama!), it would easily be torn or gouged. I guess undainty me will have to be extremely careful when assembling. I really am looking forward to an all-in-one.

Here's what @SirCrackHill posted on VLF:

"Haven’t tried that yet. I’ll try that out tomorrow night when I get a chance. I’m sure it’ll fit, maybe a little more snug. The gasket I haven’t had any issues with putting into the other heatsinks.

The Stem seems to be a different material than the other. The tube feels heavier and thicker, it’s totally smoother out inside and out. Heatsink.. I’d have to weigh the two to really see. Seems the same."

"Differences are:

Stem is perfectly rounded, slightly larger

Gasket ribbed instead of straight which allows for the cap to sit flush vs. up a little. Pulling stem up doesn’t pull whole assembly up

Tube Inside thicker, heavier

Heat sink the same"

At 1st I thought the stem was plastic, but, no, it's glass of the same thickness, just better molded & a larger lip rim. Doesn't seem that it will break between your lips, unless you bite down with your teeth. :brow: That's the only diff. I see. My stem is not round, it's oval like the originals & the lengths are the same. And yes, the assembly no longer slides up when you pull up the stem.

As far as battery is concerned, after my initial 3 crucibles upon receipt, that battery I used went down to 2 LEDs & 4 or 5 days later it's still registering 2. Threw the fully-charged, Slightly Stoopid battery in for tonight's session & after 3 crucibles it's still showing 3 lights. I guess the batteries in this pack are functioning better. For my amount of usage it's mute. Swapping 2 batteries back & forth is not uncomfortable to have to do. I'm sure there will be great improvement in the next generation before the MV2 even comes out. I'd like to see the MV2 with user 18650 replaceable batteries or Lipos. I resent having to spend $60 on a dedicated battery replacement, with a 1 year warranty to boot. For $60, I'd expect a 2-3 year warranty.

If you are on android, like me, anyone here on FC not following on VL, needs to be, as some members here don't partake over there & vice-versa, in order to get the whole scope of experiences, you really need to follow both threads. VLF thread link:

There's an ios thread in the MV-1 Forum, but no posts for 23 days so I guess everyone on this platform is pretty much squared away.

I do have 2 important things to say, well, at least important to me. ;)

First, if anyone who purchased one of the 1st 1200 - 1500 purchasers who feel they are not getting satisfactory results from the vape after the the ios & android updates, & your gut tells you it's not functioning right, then you should reach out to GV to request a replacement. No reason anyone should have an unsatisfactory experience with a $300 vape now that the updates are being incorporated in the new productions runs.

Secondly, I'd really like for us members in this thread to come together around this vape as a real community. No more snide remarks & bickering. Let's try to help each other better our MV-1 experience, and share our experiences. I want us to start having some fun on this thread. :)

PS - Here's a great pick SCH took of the rose gold:

@SirCrackKillaH, you live in Vegas? And, do tell us what those new satin colors are that are coming out? And exactly what accessories you've seen. What do you think of that case that's gonna house the MV1? Is it rubber over plastic or just plain plastic with the silicone inside exactly like the crucible holder? Come on, SCH, give it up!

*My vape doesn't squeal when drawing.

OK everyone, thanks for listening, or should I say tolerating me? :ugh:  I'm off to finish the video.

BTW, can anyone tell me what OG stands for? Original what? Thanks!

Original Gangsta. It's primarily used to describe the first edition. When the ghost mv2 comes out we will then have the OG ghost.

Thanks, skyvaper!

This guy's funny in the video. I subscribed. In this next video he compares vapor for his 4 of his fav. vapes, obviously the MV-1 being 1 of them.

@LabPong, watch this video & the end of the one listed above to see the comparision w/ the elev8r.

haaa yea the Elev8r is the mac daddy right now for vape power. But I disagree with Herb about the Solo vs MV1 on 1 hit strength. The MV1 I had for a long time.....even after the app was applied and I could reset things....still gave me huge vapor at the lowest heat setting on the first draw.

But I would not compare first draws of the solo to the other vapes.....not fair as it is a session type vape. I would compare maybe a 2nd and 3rd draw of a solo with the first draw of the others....but still not a fair comparison as they extract differently.

Wrt to even AVB, I find that when I think I have a load fully cashed, when I open the crucible there is indeed visible green on top. However, in ever case when I stir I discover that the green is just the tiniest of little pieces on top and when stirred it becomes pretty clear that the load is indeed cashed.

Oh, maybe there is a wispy draw left after stirring, but not really worth it to me as I also feel that all of the goodness has been well extracted.

I'm cool with the AVB that I'm getting in my MV-1

Aha! That’s pretty cool. I’ve been in Vegas for a bit now and go back this Wednesday on the red eye back to Newark. The intent was to get a better handle on what it’s like in Vegas..vibes, clubs, street scene, tourist traps, family areas. This town is definitely not a place to bring children.. but for adults, this is one hellofaplayground for sure :D

I checked out pretty much the bulk of the dispensaries so far..

With Vegas dispensaries, the pricing is high right near the strip, a mile or a few out or $6-12 uber will get you to where the lower cost ones are. MMJ America and Acres I think have the best pricing so far. MMJ America is near the strip. Acres is near downtown.

I knew Champs was going down and really wasn’t sure if they’d let me in. I work with like-minded businesses and sure enough I was allowed in so long as I didn’t hand out business cards. I posted up a million pictures up vlf and actually hit the daily limit. The glass was amazing. Words cannot describe the level of detail and love that was put into what was created there. Really fantastic stuff.

Storz had nothing new except the white boxes and 40 dosing capsules tray. Davinci said that they may have something coming out in a few months.. maybe..
I caught up with the dude that puts out the videos and works on that Haze Square. He’s a great guy and I saw the final production unit that has the individual markings for each Chamber. I wish I could’ve vaped it. It’s a fat little box that is actually pretty neat to play with. I might pick one of these up in April when stock’s been replenished.

Ghost.. Ghost seemed to really make waves there...Biggest booth which is actually a converted trailer that they turned into an experience center. Has rooms to vape in. Then it opened up into a tropical kinda beach like atmosphere with the Ghosts on display. They had the
Slightly Stoopid branded Ghosts, the standard colored vapes, and they had the new Satin Colored vapes.

The Satin Colored Ghosts are a Matte like finish. They do not collect fingerprints at all. If tossed in a pocket with keys.. which is still not advisable.. it may scratch, but those scratches aren’t going to be anywhere near as noticeable like the gloss colored devices. They look cool. They come in all of the standard colors.

All of the vapes on display had the new heatsink, gasket, tube, and stem assemblies. I could tell at first glance because all of the lids sat flush with the unit vs. sticking up a little.

After perusing a little more, I ran into Patrick.. Who I’m still mentally picturing with the head of Patrick Swaze.. after introducing myself we had a lengthy discussion. The whole team was there. He introduced me to everyone. The Ghost Ops Guy was there, Whitney was there, the rest of the team that you see in the videos, everybody. Really awesome, cool people. They were extremely busy and I didn’t want to bother them too much but Patrick took the time with me to show me where they are heading. As we walked he handed me one of those new heatsink assemblies and then went into detailing the changes that were made just on that one piece..

The stem is some sciency material that is used for medical applications, I can’t remember what he said it was >.< . It is manufactured to be perfectly rounded so there is no seam. The gasket has that ribbing on to really lock it into place. By locking the gasket in place, and with the stem being perfectly rounded, the stem goes up and down smooooooth like butter.

I have been using this now for the last two weeks and I’ve grown used to it. It’s hard going back to my other heatsinks with the other gaskets. Having to hold the lid down while pulling the stem up feels a little like a chore.

In my opinion: The batteries being user replaceable I don’t think will ever happen.
They have tech in those packs that balances the draw between the two batteries so they deplete at the same time. I don’t think it’s possible to do the same quite yet with off the shelf batteries. I’m just simply not educated enough on this topic.. anyone else know if you can or cannot do this? I could see quality control being a potential issue though. I’ve received off branded batteries for my IQ which caused problems in the past. Same with my phone. Caused my phone to puff up when the battery blew up shortly after installing it.

K..so.. That case that you see in the pictures I saw. I couldn’t touch it but it looked like it was a combination of soft touch silicon and plastics, kind of like an otterbox case. They are still tweaking it. Seemed a tad large so I understand why they were hesitant to release it.

The other stuff.. By god, what they have in the pipeline.. well, people are really going to be surprised. That’s all I can say really. Ghost certainly is here to stay and based upon what I saw, they are going to continue to make waves.

Out of all of the companies I met with, Ghost really seemed to be the only one that was extremely forward thinking in what was being crafted. It was also one of the few that really had their ears open to the consumers. What I saw there was special and really felt like the cherry on top of the whole CHAMPS experience.

Oh I am SirCrackKillaH!! I don’t know where you got the H from lol.. oh wait.. now I do.. shoot >.<

They did have a very nice "booth" at Champs, probably the nicest one.

:peace:
You can make out the satin devices on the left. You can see that the doors are still the silver shiny color but the rest of the device is matte.

Hmm.. I’m going to have to organize the pictures more when I get a chance. That whole soft cushion bag seating extended onto both sides of the booth wrapping around. I know I have pictures of that somewhere..

I feel like I get that amount of MV1 vapor he's showing on A1 and at 385F, he's much closer to A3 than A1 (for what it's worth...). Certainly get more than that on A3.

Here's a link to my review of the MV-1. I'm not a writer, so I'm sure its chock full of mistakes and I am still working on it a bit and I will continue to update it. I hope some of you find it helpful, informative and visual. Thank you for checking it out!

Wow, shoot man, I expected a couple of paragraphs. This right here took a lot of time and work. Really cool. This is everything all compiled into one page. Awesomeness. I’ll spend some time to look through.

I don't understand what you mean by it being closer to A3 if you say he has his vape in the vid set to A1. I'm thoroughly confused. Please elaborate.

OH! I almost forgot the thing I wanted to PROCLAIM :p-- that I am now getting the same vapor output as @Dazza78! Glory to the powers that be! Now, I get to worry that I may be one of those unfortunate ones that all of a sudden their wonderful vape stops working. Perish the thought! :ugh: I've already paid my due these past 4-1/2 months!

Amazing review! Best I've read or seen about the MV-1! Well done @Just Justin!

I learned a lot about my vape and got some really cool tips to try....changing to different temps using the app was pretty awesome and fun.....don't know why I hadn't tried it before.

Thanks for sharing with us Justin!

He ran the MV1 at 385F. With the default temps, A3 is 392, so he was closer to A3 while getting vapor closer to what I get on A1 (don’t have it handy and I don’t recall the default temp for A1 but it was considerably lower than 385).

Does that make more sense?

@Mr Mellish, am I correct in assuming that you are saying that his unit is running hot since your vape is issue-free, so your using you're vape as a baseline. Right? Or am I still lost? If so, I'll have to go back & re-watch his vid & re-read your post for my obviously lack of comprehension.

Squeal! I'm getting really great vapor -- FINALLY!

I just watched a couple of videos on the MV1. Have you guys seen these:

Sneakypete's vid. is great, but a shame that he's basED some of what he says pre-firmware upgrade so it's not accurate. He says to plan on only getting one great hit from a crucible & only 2 draws. And he got the 2nd mp upgrade, but not the 3rd. I'm certain that if he had the mp & firmware updates he'd get more than 1 good hit & more than 2 hits out of a crucible. But all in all a positive review back from Nov.

And Vapefiend's vid:

Those RYOT cases that @SirCrackKillaH photo'd at Champs got me to thinking. I'm waiting for GV to offer that hard case for sale. But in the interim, trying to figure out my measurements to put the MV1 & a couple of crucibles (housed in @Ratchett's crucible holder) in a case like this as it's all I need when I go out:

https://www.ryot.com/ryotr-smellsafer-large-hardcasetm-in-black.html

Then I'd like something larger like this that will hold the vape when it's in that GV case. Something like the RYOT Piper Case, but without the flap. There's a couple of videos on youtube showing it.

https://www.ryot.com/ryotr-pipertm-with-smellsafer-technology-in-black.html

@Dazza78 has got a lot of stuff packed in it:

@Summer I use a padded camera bag as my case. It has room for the ghost and the crucible dispenser in the main storage area. It also has one other pocket where I carry my pick. Kind of stealth because as you open the camera bag it looks like a silver camera at first glance. It's not advertised as smell proof but I don't smell anything when everything is in the case.
