Hi all,

Can anyone help me with electical questions?
I'm intending, at some point, in having a friend send me a Woodscent, from the USA, (obviously :-)
As you may know, the UK runs on different mains power.

"There are four matters relating to using US appliances in the UK

  • the voltage ( US = 120V, UK = 240V )
  • Watts the product draws – this is different for each product
  • the frequency ( US = 60 Hz, UK = 50 Hz )
  • the plug on the power cord- UK 3 prongs, US 2 prongs"
There are many step down adapters on Amazon etc. They range from 10 GBP to 100 GBP., and look anything like large plugs, to fairy big units.

Given, that this will be the only device running through the adapter, will I be able to get away with a fairly cheap one.?
Also, it won't be always on.
Does anyone know how many watts the Woodscent draws?
Will the frequency variation affect things.

I hope somebody can answer this, my knowledge of electrics is zero.
Thanks in advance, John Williams

For eg. Would something like this do the job? : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Step-Down-...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2E45C5A5SS86X697KMNE

Or, this is within my price range, what do people think? : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Hero...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=J6AVFKSGEP9D3RYVJ0Z7
I believe you will only need a US to UK plug converter. About £5 in shops, but less than half that online if you check Amazon/Ebay etc.

Thanks for your input @Alexis , but how can that be. US mains =120 volt, UK 240 volt, surely you must need a step down?

I'm hoping you are right, I've a couple of those.

Hopefully, I'll get more replies to confirm, doesn't sound right though. The Woodscent heater must draw a lot of watt's to get to high temperature so quickly.

I know he hasn't got his CE certification yet, hence the friend exporting it to me as a gift.

Thanks for your input, and I really hope you're right, John :-)

@johnwillyums

I would believe @Alexis He knows what's up.

I am sitting here looking at my Woodscents adapter and it says:
Input - 100 - 240V 50/60Hz
Output - 12V 1Amp

So all you do require is an adapter to plug the wall-wart into!
The wall-wart has a two flat prong style, not round like yours.

@lazylathe & @Alexis . Thanks, that is really good news.

I'm sorry I doubted you Alexis, as I say I've no knowledge of electricity, every time I turn on the light, it is an act of faith ;-)

That really has made my day, the thought, that my cunning plan to get hold of one of these beauties might work out very expensive, was harshing my mellow, as somebody probably says, somwhere. :-)

Cheers to you both, John

Now you have extra cash to feed the Woodscents when it arrives!!!

That's cool John, to be truthful I doubt myself! And I am the same myself, a deep deep philosophical/spiritual wanderer, always totally bamboozled by the simplest, everyday wordly practical matters. Electronic terminology goes straight over my head. I am effectively useless in a real world, practical sense. I wonder how I even survive sometimes?

Good luck getting your own WS. I think Ed can see the CE certificate on the horizon somewhere but hopefully your US amigo can hook you up.

Wonder why it dropped from 3A to 1A?
I have a guess.

The best way I've heard it described is that voltage is "pushed" to the device and amperage is "pulled" by the device. In DC power supply contexts, this means voltage output is your primary concern, as voltage differences, especially too much, can definitely cause damage, whereas amperage being "pulled", the unit will only pull as much amperage as it needs, up to the available amount (in @CanadianBakin 's case, up to 3A) so your issue is not "is amperage too high" but "is there enough".

So unless the heater power specifications changed, I would guess the change is due to available supply of wall warts to Ed. If the heater never needs more than 1A then no need for 3A if a batch of 1As are available at a better price or are better logistically in some way.

That'd be my guess, but only Ed knows for sure. ;)

I am the proud owner of three WS’s, the first of which was in the maiden shipment. That shipment had a bunch of bad PS’s, so while I waited for Ed to send a new one, I asked him the wattage of his heater......did the math and knew that a 1A would work. So anything over 1A is just a batch of PS’s that he probably got a deal on.

And to confirm, if your wall wart say both input voltages, all you need is a US to UK plug adapter

Hello everyone, I am still in the process of moving and making it happen. Gosh its been tough, took me 3 - 4 days to get the wife moved and even had to deal with a potential school shooting a week ago yesterday. What a day that was, got a call from my ex saying not to worry but a social media post said that it was going down and would be bloody. My mouth hit the ground and my foot floored the pedal of my car, was doing 100 trying to get to the Jr high. My boys are spread out in age so I have one in all three schools elementary, jr high, and high. Got them out after a few hours and the scare was over, nothing happened thank God and no one was hurt. We began the move and all went well just go go go. The boys school was shut down again the following monday from another post and just yesterday they nailed the idiot 16 year old for the posts. Ohhhh I so hope they get a hellova lot more than a slap on the wrist. Moving to this other county is requiring so much to get my buildings in place. I gotta have permits, gotta measure off property lines, gotta have inspectors out, have been in touch with the call before you dig to get others out to make sure there are no other buried wires or cables, gotta wait for for approval and have to explain everything from start to finish before approval, gosh what a PITA its been but I am getting closer. Had a blast in New Orleans, met my sister from another mother after many several long years we finally got to hug and do time. Was a good time walking the streets and doing the eats. She had never had crawfish, had her sucking heads and eating tails haha. Have been there several times in my life and once you have done Bourbon st. once you have done it enough. Did some strolling of the side streets and saw some great street performers and niche stores. Got some great content on my IG feed if you havent seen it. Saw this young gal with a beautiful soulful sound that was amazing, got a video of her there also. My boys love the Big Bang Theory, its a good show, was in a store and found Clue the game BBT themed, hahah had to buy it for them. They were playing it finding out who did Sheldon wrong lol. I am so stinking jealous sitting here knowing what I do, seems several of our great members here are at Spannibis this year and I am not ughhhhhh. Really really hate that but hope they will all be there next year as my guy there in France says its a must for me and the WS to make it. He is there now as my rep making way and starting to build the future of the WS for the world. We are working still on the CE which we have more info on and like the permits they want so much info and this and that and this more than that. Its kinda like buying a house but a hellova lot harder and way more frustrating. Reading what is need and trying to go through it is like microwave instructions and protocal ughhhh. Oh btw how bout this, seems I am an inventor now and the WS is patented, thats right!!!! I am hoping to be setup and turning in the shops next month and will be rolling out the 2018 and be doing a 11th annual/420 celebration all in one. Shooting sports has begun so we are putting rounds down range. Really excited to see how the boys do this year ecspecially my youngest. Last weekend he was nailing the bullseye, looking for a few 1st places out of him this year.

@biohacker oh

@Magic9 Old School rules!

@Ramahs Yes sir going to be a few more weeks so keep putting those dollars back bro. Website is up and running, had a bug here or there but all is working out. Keep an eye out for whats to come.

@Aezhenn Thank you my man, glad you like the piece. My friend loves it and is enjoying it very much. Was a great time had for sure. Not sure how far France is from Spain but would be nice to meet you there next year bro, give you a big hug too!

@johnwillyums Thanks for the like and well wishes bro, really appreciate ya!

@stelmobarry Wow bro you are a solid trooper pushing forward. I thank you for stopping by and sharing your story, I know its a blessing to me to hear it and hope to others as well as an encouragement. Anytime you wanna hit me up for a WS I ask you to get with me beforehand so I make dang sure I get you right! Keep on keeping on!

@KidFated. My man I am so happy you got that piece and hope you will post up your experience. I am so thankful to you for the past and what you did for my collection. Yes sir all is good and big thanks to you again! You are a solid and always got a place in my corner!

@thatoneguy445 Bro, @Aezhenn gave me a sneak peak at that piece before the post and what a great job he did for you. You have a hella setup and thank you for showing off all the great pieces.

@Summer @Slagzord @Squiby @Ramahs well said!

@johnwillyums Bro all you will need is a 12v1a powersupply with a 2.1x5.5mm jack for the input power. This one ought to do ya https://www.amazon.co.uk/TMEZON-100...pID=41vqiT5X0SL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

@Quint My man that is still one of the most beautiful pieces I have done yet, thanks for showing it again!

@Slagzord Yes sir we did have issues with the tip and airpath fit. I was speaking to george a couple weeks ago, spent bout an hour or so talking this and that. There is very little room for error on the fit and wall thickness. For the airpath post to base we are figuring another idea for a solid fit. One thing I have done a little different is placement of the heater in the path. When I sent yours back I bumped it up a little in hieght so thats why.

@thatoneguy445 Hit me up by email and lets talk about getting you blowing mad clouds pls sir.

@Alexis & @lazylathe Thanks for stepping up with the info.

@CanadianBakin All WS are going out with a 12v1a now thats more that sufficient to power the WS.

@RalphsBlend well said bro, 1a are easier and a wee bit cheaper than the 3's. That and I have a steady supplier for 1's with CE.

@mucsusn my man you are correct as well. And so far being the only cat I know with 3 WS atm. Got a guy sending some prize Aussie wood species, he has one but will add 3 to it.

@Other Side my man, I appreciate all you do and the kind words, we go back a ways and glad to call you friend.

@SSVUN~YAH you also have some great pieces and happy to see all the work from @Aezhenn and y'all keeping him busy.

@Aezhenn a big thank you for all you do for all us, you do great work, happy to see others showing it off.

I hope I covered it all and everyone, sorry for my delay and lack of time y'all. If I didn' pls hit me back and let' go from there. I am anxious to get to work, I got alot of pent up inspiration inside me and wood needing worked. Wish you all the best.
