Sorry, no photos yet. I still only have an ugly prototype because I have been working through some design tweaks with the heater design, etc. I hope to post something within a week or so. Sorry, no date either, just some time this spring.

@firewood Is the cool dovetail design of the F4 gone ?
wondering if I should get a second hand F4 or a new F5 ?
if I get a second hand F4 are you still offering repairs for them or would you recommend to just wait for the new one ?
The cool dovetail is gone, but is replaced with some other cool design features. It is definitely going to look a lot different from any previous fw, or any other vape for that matter. I am biased, but I would wait for the fw5. At least wait until I post a photo before deciding. Also keep in mind though that fw5 will be a bit more expensive than fw4 was because it will be using some new (and expensive) ceramic parts, will require some pretty tight dimensional tolerances, and is taking some more time and money to develop. The base model will definitely be more than 200 this time. However, comparing to fw4 price, the fw5 will include a 5 chamber tray for quick reloads on the go, whereas a fw4 required a separate purchase of a holder with 3 capsules/mouthpieces or some other solution. Still the fw5 will be a little more money (and well worth it).

As a low-temp vaper who likes a quick perspective shift, I am really looking forward to the FW5. W my 4, I would slowly load my capsule more and more till I got to 75% full - overenthusiastic, I guess - before remembering to go back to 40% where I’d get the same or better experience.

That led me to my current favorite setup - micro-dosing w a 14mm adapter & small screen in my Splinter. What Marc’s planning sounds ideally suited to my use w better form factor.

does anyone know if it's possible to get a lower shipping rate if all you're getting is the fw3 battery cover? Mine finally cracked but the shipping is more than the cover itself (I live in Canada). Is it possible to ask for it to be shipped in a letter envelope or something, since it's just a thin little panel of wood? I don't know a lot about mailing and shipping, sorry if this is a stupid thing to ask

This would be a thing to ask questions@firewoodvapes.com.

I am considering taking the FW3 and FW4 on a trip with the family (always a risky proposition, in my case). Giving both loaded vapes the sniff test, I realized that the FW4 was fine but the FW3 was definitely going to stink up my backpack.

This led to me to dig through the vape graveyard. I found several battery caps for the MagicFlight batteries. The cap fits perfectly over the mouthpiece of the FW3. After an hour, the backpack is still smelling pretty clean. Sometimes it's good to be a packrat.

Ok here is a rough pic. It may not look exactly like this but will be close:

That is freaky but it looks pretty much like I imagined !

think the disc shape loading system would have been too bulky, but a "clip" shaped on would be inline with the shape of the battery, also been imagining if someone would make a "water screw" type of vaporizer bowl
irrigation-systems62.jpg

but hard to flesh out the "hot air through herb" part but pretty sure someone could figure that out but damn anyway a multi chamber vape would be an awesome tool for long sessions or outside use when you dont wanna be loading it all the time with fresh herb

It's a very interesting departure from the original lines of the firewood 1 and the more recent firewood 4. I remember you (Marc) saying that it would be about the size of the FW4 with cooling unit so I'm using that for scale. I also remember you saying these new capsules hold less than the old ones which I look forward too.

I'm interested to learn how we make our selection of which chamber we want to be using at what time. That will be very cool.

Another curiosity of mine is where we'll be inhaling from and what that pathway will look like. I live in a legal state and thusly take my vapes out a lot in my daily life. I'm hoping we won't lose that brilliant portability and native 14mm connection that the FW4 had, in the new glass and ceramic pathway.

I'm now even more excited to see more of this vaporizer. Marc I ask that you trust in your fans and your product and shed a bit more light on this project as we get closer to spring. You might find we have valuable input, though I'm sure you'll find most of us wholeheartedly believe you can produce nothing but greatness.

Looks awesome @firewood - really cool unqiue design. Kinda like a lily/dobby a little!

@Mr Mellish it looks like he just left the tray partially exposed to show it. I think in operation it'll be fully flush inside the body but I could be wrong.

I could also be dense and just have missed a joke

Nah, I’m probably just uptight...don’t want to have to miss out on the FW5.

I'm guessing it'll be push button and haptic vibration to select which bowl you pick?

No idea what he's cooking up though. This looks freakin SWEET the more I look at it. I love that you kept the purpleheart button too!

Fuck just when I thought I was able to say "naaaah I don't need it" to just about anything that comes out...

Has there been anything said about vapor path yet? I see the glass stem which is nice, esp if it pushes in to be flush!

Hard to get sense of scale in that shot though!

This shows the unit upside down with the battery cover/mouthpiece removed and a fw4 behind it for scale.

I also remember you saying these new capsules hold less than the old ones which I look forward too.
Without packing the herb, each chamber in the tray will hold around 75% of the plant material as a fw4 capsule. However, you can definitely pack the chambers a bit more with the fw5 which makes the vapor denser and better, so a nicely packed fw5 chamber can actually hold about the same as a fw4 capsule (unpacked). On the other hand it can also do a much better job at microdosing, so is basically more versatile than fw4.

I'm interested to learn how we make our selection of which chamber we want to be using at what time. That will be very cool.

I wish I could make electronically selectable chambers, but that would be really complicated, probably impossible in such a small size with current technology and still be safe and cleanable. The way it works is that there is a heater in the overhanging section above the "mouth" where the tray goes in. Whichever chamber is aligned below the heater is the active chamber. To use the 2nd chamber in, you would pull the tray out one chamber then use. When you use the 2nd chamber, the tray protrudes ~3/8 inch. When you use the middle chamber it protrudes ~1 inch. It never has to protrude more than 1 inch in use because for the next 2 chambers you turn the tray around 180 degrees. When not in use you slide it all the way in so nothing is exposed. I think the fact that the tray sticks out during use for 3 out of the 5 chambers is a minor inconvenience compared to the huge added convenience of being able to easily load 5 chambers at once and have enough battery life to kill them all.

Another curiosity of mine is where we'll be inhaling from and what that pathway will look like.
You can see this better in the pic above. The path is basically glass and ceramic. The heater and tray are ceramic, then there is a wide glass tube that you can barely see inside the red oring above. Then it goes into the ceramic part that you can see that has the 3 holes (in the battery cover/mouthpiece) where the vapor takes a 90 degree turn and heads down the thin glass tube to where you draw.

I'm hoping we won't lose that brilliant portability and native 14mm connection that the FW4 had, in the new glass and ceramic pathway.
Unfortunately you will lose the native 14mm connectivity, but there will be an optional battery cover where the vapor will go straight down to a 14mm adapter instead of doing the 90 degree turn to the glass tube. Honestly, as I have been using this and the previous prototype for awhile now, I haven't missed using a bubbler nearly as much as I thought I would. The vapor is really cool and smooth without water.

You might find we have valuable input
I know you have valuable input and even though I don't directly ask for it too much, I am constantly lurking here and in other sub forums and websites passively collecting feedback.

Won’t there be an odor issue with all that exposed material?
I don't think it will be too bad because the chambers should be enclosed. However they won't be sealed air tight, so I am sure somebody with a bloodhound nose will be able to smell it.

FUCK CANCER TOO !
It is 3 pieces of wood, 4 if you include the button. It is hard to see the joint but the main unit is 2 pieces. The battery cover snaps into place then you squeeze the end to unlatch it before opening it.

Thanks, I see...very much looking forward to having my own!:rockon::rockon:

So much cool new info here. The size of the unit looks great. My only two questions left are, how quickly can you finish a bowl and when you're ready can we see a bit more of the clip system? I love the concept of it but in the current pictures I can't quite see how it will work without exposing material or producing odor.

I lied. After obsessing over this image all morning, I have one more question. Cleaning. The new airpath seems to go through the battery cover. Will there be an easy way to take this apart to get to all the stem milk that's inside of the wood part?

how quickly can you finish a bowl
depends on size of load, herb quality, grind, temp setting, etc. I did a quick test last night on heat level 3 (out of 4) with some homegrown carnival. I don't have a good scale, so I had to measure out 0.8g, then divide it in half a few times to get 3 chambers with approx. 0.1g, 0.05g and 0.025g (not sure how accurate). The 0.025g was basically a pinch, and gave a good draw and a half and took 1 1/2 mins from start to last exhale. The 0.05g gave a couple more draws and took around 2 1/2 mins. The 0.1g took around 5 mins. If I crank it to level 4 0.1g would be quite a bit faster, closer to 3 mins, but also gets on the edge on combusting and doesn't taste as good as level 3. I may change the levels a bit still, but I do like the idea of keeping a level that might not taste quite as good but can get the job done real quickly if needed.

yes, but not ready yet

Both glass tubes and the ceramic "L joint" pull out for cleaning.
