What strains are good for Sleep Apnia?

I keep hearing certain strains are good for sleep Apnia. Can anyone reccomend a good strain for sleep apnia.

Sorry to tell you, as a sleep apnea person myself, no strains improve sleep apnea.
While it's true that cannabis may help you sleep, the breath interuptions due to apnea will not go away.
In fact my pot Doctor begged me to use the Cpap machine for this very reason. In fact he was emphatic. Alas I tried but simply couldn't bear it...

Tried cpap machine once for 30 min. and I found it was actually harder to breath with the machine. Pychologically felt like I was in a hospital with a breathing tube. I will eventually just have to use it but for now trying to sleep on my side to avoid less disruptions. Just got a body pillow from costco for this reason.

I have to agree with you wholeheartedly and can only hope that the technology keeps developing to find a less intrusive solution.
As it stands the "compliance rate" for people who have the device is less then 50 %.
Sleeping on the side helps me quite a bit and for some loosing some weight seems to help. I'm actually a bit on the skinny side, so that's not my issue :-)

CBD is not going to do much other than help you fall back asleep after you wake up from your Apnea. I have tried CBD isolate, CBD wax and other forms of CBD. I even had the real shit (cannabis-derived) from Omega Labs when they were around. It never did much for my severe Sleep Apnea.

I used a BiPAP machine for 13 monthes before figuring out how to make it work best for me. 6 monthes later it stopped working all of a sudden. Basically the pressure would create a problem with my mask and I would not be able to breathe at all or the mask would break its seal and I would wake up to the mask just blowing air on my face. I was also a new dad and could tell that sleeping on a machine excluded me from my family at nite time. The whole reaso. For using the damn machine was 1) so I would stop having narcoleptic episodes while driving and 2) so I could share a bed with my wife and newborn again. The machine just was not going to cut it for me so I tried the alternatives.

Alt 1 was get 2 surgeries. First they had to fix my deviated septum (I am a complete mouth breather) so they could then do a UPPP which is where they gut your throat basically and cut the tissue and tuck/roll it under and sew it back together. This was one of the worst decisions in my life. I was in so much pain after the UPPP for 3 weeks and I could not get enough Tylenol3. I hate scripted meds usually and especially Ty3 because it just makes me loopy as hell and sometimes messes with my stomach. I couldnt tolerate all the pain though and I have a pretty high threshold. The pain is not the reason I think the UPPP surgery was a bad decision. The reason is because now I have a ditch (literally a horizontal crevise) going from jaw to jaw in the back of my throat and no uvula (the punching bag looking thing). It itches randomly sometimes especially if I get dehydrated. It catches food and mucus and bothers me enough that I brush the spot every morning. Many people that have had the surgery have been left with the sensation that there is someting in their throat. I had not been aware of this until after my suegery.

Alt 2 was to find a dentist that would provide me with a MAD. A Mandibular Advancement Device is basically a custom formed retainer you where at night that pulls your jaw forward. This device was pretty great at first. It got me back in bed with my wife but after some time I noticed my teeth would always hurt in the morning and it seemed to be getting worse. It did help my snoring a good deal, however it did not stop it and it did not stop my Apnea.

I am a short and stocky guy. Overweight by 40-50 lbs. for sure with a thick neck. At my worst I was 216 lbs at only 5'-4". The MAD was not cutting it and all of a sudden a change in roles at work had me running up and down the stairs of three 8 story buildings I was building in DC. I lost 40 lbs. This was my Alt 3 as it made the biggest difference to my snoring and Apnea. I felt more rested and was feeling more energetic throughout the day. I am at a new job since June and I have put half that weight back on and I must say its horrible how out of shape I am compared to this time last year. This is also the weight where I think my Apnea fluctuates from Mild to Severe.

My recommendation is to see a dentist about a MAD and to lose weight if you are indeed overweight.

Gorilla Glue #4 works really well for me. It is a Sativa Hybrid. I always thought we needed something that’s an Indica. Look around and see what works for you. We are all so individual. Sometimes I use a higher tempreture for sleep and pain.

Funny thing is I don't fit the profile for sleep apnea. I am fit, and not over weight. I had to go through hell to get my machine. Even after diagnosis! Like what? It's prescription. Am I gonna OD on a CPAP?
Fucking DRs. After getting "Susie" I still struggled. I learned you need to "get under the hood" and slowly tweak settings until you find the sweet spot. Of course the DRs don't want you doing this, they want you or insurance to cover a visit for every tweak, lol. Gotta pay for that yacht!! Any way, CPAP saved my life.
Apnea is nothing to mess with. It WILL kill you! If anyone struggles, needs help or info, PM me. I know more about apnea than almost any DR.

This was my issue as well. The doctor kept making me make alterations to the BiPAP settings. After 9 monthes we got it pretty good then he had me changing the settings the next month that went the wrong direction. For 3 or 4 monthes we went back and forth changing the settings each month and I started getting worse. So I took all my sleep studies and all the reports from my BiPAP and evaluated the data myself. Its a lot of numbers which I am good with. I was able to figure out what settings I really needed to be at and the doctor acted like it was no big deal so I fired him/stopped seeing him. I told him the data showed where I needed to be and called him out for giving me false/bad settings to adjust to just so he could try and sell me on an SDV-PAP machine. I pretty much lost it on him and went on my own. I had success with the Bi-PAP for another 6 monthes before I had the breathing issues I mention in my previous post. It is sad how these doctors use the CPAP and BiPAP and other machines as cash cows. My dentist does not request that I come in for adjustments and only needs to see me every 6 monthes for the MAD device.

I haven't tried MAD just because I'm doing well as is. The industry is a horror show. It's really sad because so many suffer and it IS treatable, unlike some dangerous conditions. My GP didn't know what AHI is,
Never mind what it means....... There are work around for mask leaks, or try a new style.

@hafalump What is your current AHI? I think my best I got down to according to the BiPAP machine was as low as 12!

I tried many different masks as I know others who live by their machines and love the difference it has made in their life. Thats why I tried so hard to make mine work, but being a total mouth breather left me with few options for masks.

I also have other things that affect my sleep, so for me it is more about getting a good night of sleep without adding stress. I wake often to use the restroom (perhaps something I should have checked out) throughout the night and if I am stressed I can fall into an anxiety prone insomnia phase where I cannot go back to sleep or if I do I fall into sleep paralysis (thia shit is a bitch) or just sleep like I was being tossed around on a boat. This is where getting high as fuck before bed comes into play. If I can get 4 or 5 dabs in about 30 min before I go to sleep, I will usually be able to go back to sleep fast enough after a quick bathroom visit. If I don't, I will lie awake tired as fuck with anxiety. I think the insomnia/anxiety is a PSTD response from waking up so many times after driving off the road. That shits scary.

The CPAP and BiPAP machines do have a higher success rate for treating sleep apnea so if it is working for you I would not recommend the MAD anyway.

I was diagnosed with an AHI of 9 but that number was low I believe. First couple of weeks on CPAP and It was telling me 5-7 and I felt better. But seriously a 5 is considered treated? call that fucking DR 5 times an hour while he is trying to sleep... all night, wake his wife too!

I use a low profile nose mask and I am under 1 AHI most nights. Pressure at 10-11. It's about narrowing that window so the machine delivers just what you need with out waking you with excessive pressure fluctuations.

Pre CPAP I was medicating with 3 bottles of wine per night. So you may think you sleep but you really
are just passing out. (I am now down to 3 beers)I understand ambien sleep pills are similar. I seriously wonder how many suicides are related to undiagnosed apnea? It is some evil shit.

A bit of trivia. CPAP was invented in 1973 by reversing a vacuum onto a WW II gas mask.

Any sedative...alcohol, sleeping meds, anti-anxiety meds or pain meds reduce the nerve impulses to the smooth muscles which keep you upper airway open when you sleep. If you have OSA without these things I don't see how Cannabis will help. I use microdosed BlueDream for migraines and my AHI numbers are in the high teens if I go to bed high. Normally my AHIs are 2-5.

I'm a medically disabled Respiratory Therapist and have worked as a sleep tech. I also worked for one of the CPAP machine and mask manufacturers as a product specialist for about 15 years so I've seen pretty much everything out there. There are many options available for you if you can't tolerate CPAP. Make sure the company you got your equipment from knows you're having problems and request they help make it work for you. It will make a difference! My suggestion is to not put the mask on until you are ready to go to sleep. I usually lay down and wind down for 5-10 minutes before I put on my mask. I use a heated humidifier to make the air more comfortable. Also use a fleece sleeve (my wife calls it my hose condom) around the hose for insulation to lessen the amount of condensation that collects in there. There are heated hoses now which do this too. Room temperature indoor air can really dry you out and cause irritation and swelling which can make you feel like you're suffocating. Use the ramp function which starts out at a very low pressure and flow and slowly ramps up over 15-30 minutes. This will let you go to sleep without blowing your brains out your ears right off the bat. If you use a nasal mask try to keep your mouth closed, breathe through your nose and don't try to talk or breathe through your mouth. Happy to help!

Cpap user here. My pre surgery AHI was 68, not sure about the number now. 0-5 being regular. AHI is how many times you stop breathing in an hours i believe. Pressure at 16 - 18 and I only use a Nose mask.

A few doctors have told me that anything that sedates me could be a potential killer, includes marijuana.

So to reply to your comment hafalump...I think their are a lot of people who die from it, only because lack of sleep and breathing causes a lot of problems to the body.

Get a cpap machine that can control humidity and temperature...It will be the best decision of your life!

The Apnea won't kill you, but you will die from heart attack or stroke if left untreated. Anyone who thinks they may have this condition, take your life back, get a CPAP and use it! Do it for your loved ones.....

I gave up on the cpap machine. I had a really shitty person who showed me a scary video. I was hyped about using it until I saw the video of sleep apnia and what happens to you. It had the reverse effect on me and now I just don't want to use it at all. I always feel like I am suffocating with that machine. I need to breath through my mouth from time to time to get a good dose of air. That machine makes sure that I do not take that air from my mouth. I tried face mask, nasal mask you name it. Does not work for me. Need to ask my doctor for a mouth device instead. I heard sleeping on your side decreases the apnia attacks is this true?

@Kosherbubba Do you have a newer unit, a VPAP? Automatic Variable pressure as needed through the night.
You need to find the sweet spot, too much pressure wakes you, not enough and your air way collapses.
I struggled for months until I learned how to tweak my settings. Keep trying it is worth it.
I feel 20 years younger, no joke. And my man parts work again:brow:

They were 3.5 times more likely to be readmitted for any reason within 30 days, a new study found. And those who didn't comply with their breathing treatment were more than twice as likely to be readmitted to the hospital due to a heart disease condition within 30 days....​

if you feel like you cant breath...its probably because you are;
1) not used to it yet
2) pressure is too high to start.
3) wrong mask ( I tried 4 different masks until I figured nasal mask is best for me ) I tried many different brands before I decided on the 4 I would try, luckily it was free


Feeling I cant breath was the first problem I had with it too until my doctor and I kept tweaking until I can use it.
