My lost dog:

image.php

I'm firing up my Underdog and missing my lost dog. I guess there's no reason any more to leave my Underdog on all the time so you won't take it and hide it from me, like you did the remote controls and anything else you thought would get my attention (which you always already had, my sweet girl)

One of the 7 great dogs of the world. All dogs are one of the seven.

Fire up your dogs, people, and spend a few minutes remembering all of our lost dogs, friends, relatives, and pets.

Good speed Trudy. Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, and streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting. **

Sweet looking pup @CurryLeafTreehugger sorry you lost her. Beagle? I always had a pet beagle growing up as a kid, hilariously smart and sweet dogs!

? What is the function of WOOD for VAPORIZING?

What if a different material is used for the case?

@CurryLeafTreehugger does wood make it special?

@ataxian Haven't seen you around (the UD world) in a while.. welcome!

For the UD wood is: physical structure, insulation and aesthetics.

I have made some 'cases' in non-wood materials but it's hard to find ones that are: safe, affordable, have good workability and also have proper insulation properties. Many woods have all those properties plus beauty which make it a good choice. Did you have something specific in mind for a different material?

Wood is also special to/for me because I grew up in a tiny remote logging town in the middle of the woods. All my family is/was loggers and/or woodworkers so I just naturally gravitate to wood.

I maybe a nerd?

So there is not a material useful other than wood?

HUMW
PVC
ALUMIUM
I can make a list if you want?

My FAMILY & close FRIEND'S tell me: "You think too much?

Since the caveman day's WOOD is all we have?

FUNCTION/COST = HOW I UNDERSTAND THING's?

Maybe I'm UNCIVILIZED? (or read too much)

I'm a nerd too, I love discussions about tech and everything else and I'm also told I think too much lol.

If you want to make a list I would be happy to talk about the materials on it. As far as the ones you already mentioned first two can't take the heat and aluminum is too good a conductor of heat.

Other than wood I've made prototypes in: several high-temp/high tech plastics, several types of ceramic, carbon fiber, a few natural fiber/textiles, silicone, cork, various perforated metals and a couple types of cellulose.. maybe a few other things I can't think of right now. All those varied between 'moderately successful' to 'uh oh that's a lot of smoke'.

Seriously though I do like this discussion. If I found a safe, affordable, workable non-wood material I'd certainly consider using it.. especially if it enabled us to make an even more affordable 'Log' so we could get them into more peoples hands.

Yes, beagle. And yes, smart as a whip and VERY independent while still being willing to please. When she wanted something she would stare at me intently until I looked at her, then she'd quickly glance aside at whatever she was after, then she'd look at me again to see if the dumb hoo-mon got it yet. I know now where Charles Schultz got the Snoopy-taking-his-dog-bowl-to-Charlie-Brown thing. Plus the whole hide-and-seek with the remotes thing. She would have been 11 in May. I only had her for 5 months. Long story involving horrible rescue that refused to live up to their promises regarding taking care of the health of any animals they adopt out. Turned out she had cancer and they did absolutely everything they could to NOT treat her to the point where she died of it. And me on disability... Anyway. Much missed. Took me 8 years to get over the death of my previous dog, Rusty. It's going to take some time here too, especially after the stress of chasing the bastards down to make them help her as they were supposed to.

I highly recommend "Dean Spanley" (movie with Peter O'Toole and Sam Neil) for those with the dog nostalgia blues. I love that movie. It has never been released on DVD for the US, just the UK and Europe. So I got a UK DVD and ran it through Handbrake which ignores region codes to rip myself a digital copy I could actually watch. Similar in style to "The Big Fish" in that they're both a sort of gentle magical reality type tale.

If I found a safe, affordable, workable non-wood material I'd certainly consider using it.. especially if it enabled us to make an even more affordable 'Log' so we could get them into more peoples hands.

Honestly I have a hard time imagining something that would work and would be cheaper than wood. Definitely not prettier or better feeling when in your hand.

PSA: Please do not fall asleep with your underdog in your bed....

Last night I fell asleep after a nice evening sesh with my UD. Typically this wouldn't have been an issue, but I left my UD in the corner of my bed on its side (rather than on my night stand,) and after rolling over in my sleep, covered it with a pillow.

After ~7 long hours with the UD sandwiched between my bed and pillow (11pm-6am) enough heat was trapped to start a small fire. Luckily, I had a large window next to where I sleep and I was able to fold my mattress and throw it out the window before the fire and smoke could spread.

Unfortunately I lost a pillow, mattress, and worst of all, my UD, in the process.

With that being said, if anyone has an extra UD they don't find themselves using I am in the market! Hopefully looking to pick one up for less than <$100 on the secondhand market that can fit into my college kid budget.

Cheers!

Wow.. yeah very important PSA! Thanks for sharing and glad you resolved things before they got worse!

You should send @underdogette a message and maybe we can rebuild your Dog for you or something.

WOW! Glad you were lucky enough to catch it in time!! These things are not to be taken lightly.. and definitely not something to sleep on!
I'd like to think it goes w/o saying, but I've seen this same thing posted about in this thread before!
I'm sure there are plenty of people who like to use their Logs in bed, so you're post is a very important reminder of the real risk involved w/ doing so!

Is that one of the old Econo-dogs? Those used a different sized connector and power-supply (too strong for the new dogs)

No. I got this one around Christmas so it is a newer vape. I've tried the one that came with it, plus one of the PAs from my current UD. Same thing with both. It only goes in halfway.

I got the figured black walnut during the winter sale. I haven't plugged it in because my other UD is still running like a champ even with a loose core.

When I plugged the new one in, the plug will not go in flush. It goes in about halfway. Any ideas?

Hey @Magic9 - Is the vape running after plugging in?

If it's not running, take a look inside the plug socket on the vape. You should see a little metal plate (spring plate/tensioner) that sticks out from the side. This little piece of metal is what pushes against the side of the plug and keeps it plugged in tightly. Sometimes this little piece of metal can get snagged and then bent into the center or crumpled up in there, if the plug is inserted at just the wrong angle at first.

If you find that to be the case, sometimes you can gently push it back into place, but a lot of times it's too crumpled to fix, or it breaks off when trying to fix it. If that happens, we'll need to have you send it in for repair.

Let us know what you find, and we'll go from there!

I can see the spring plate. I used a toothpick to kind of push it back a little. With the new PA, if I really "ram it home", the silver shaft only pokes out by about a quarter. It does heat up like that. With the older PA (180021) it only goes halfway without heat up.

It's fine if it's supposed to be that snug. I just wasn't sure since my Twig takes the plug flush. I'll use it for a couple of days and see how it works. Thanks for the help.

If it's working, it's possible the plug is longer than the old ones. Keep an eye on it, and let us know if you need to send it in. :)

Hey Dogs, hope you're all doing great out there!

We're in the process of setting up our temporary fair-weather shop for the spring and early summer. Once things are fully setup and we've got the flux-capacitors charged we'll be restocking all the things that are out of inventory, building oodles of Dogs and making customs. This will most likely be the only time in 2018 that we'll be doing customs (April and May) so if you've been waiting now's your chance.

Relatedly we have good internet again (yay civilization!) so if you've been pining to catch up with myself or Underdogtte now you can. You're welcome. :brow:

Lastly (for now) for those who have been asking, yes we will be having a 420 sale. This year it's going to run the weekend of 4/20 (3 days, 20th - 22nd) and will feature a ton of vapes with huge discounts and all accessories discounted as well. We might even run a contest if I can talk to @vtac and work out details in time. :peace:

I ordered some new glass from dhgate and I picked up a couple of glass J-hook things. This thing is amazing when paired with the 14mm short GonG!

https://www.dhgate.com/product/s-shape-smoking-water-pipe-glass-attachment/197075329.html

It hits super smooth. Like ridiculously smooth.

The minimum order was 2... and they were $4.15 each (plus $2.39 shipping to me in Canada). So it was only a bit over $10 USD for two of them. I'm glad I have 2 because I'm probably going to break one eventually. I'm happy with the thickness of the glass... it's not cheap/thin glass by any means... but a glass piece like this is just asking to get broken. If anyone is thinking of ordering, you may want to just get 5 because the price drops to $2.85 each and with shipping, I still think it's less than $20 total which is pretty darn cheap and then you don't have to worry if you break a couple of them.

They are a little bigger than I thought they would be and it's a bit thicker around the "U" part (both good things IMO). It really feels like the perfect size and I'm loving how it hits. Any bits that fall through the screen get trapped in the bottom of the U part and don't make it to your mouth.

Hello all, new user here. Just bought an underdog on r/entexchange and I am super impressed. Already got a wifi outlet on the way so I can have it heated up when i get home.

Any pro-tips? I'm currently trying to figure out...

  • Variable heating - I will be making my own voltage controller this evening
  • Screen location - how close to the heater should I be?
  • Amount of herb - how aggressive can I get with herb packing?
