Multi-brand Vivant Alternate

Extra cool that these bucket screens fit right into the "ground herb" section of the included grinder/loader, making a nifty way to pre-load & store my dosing capsules, and load the main chamber.:science:

I'm a huge fan of the S-B dosing caps. Make the whole vaping experience far more convenient, less messy, and far easier to clean the vape. Nonetheless, I have the v.3 top/cooling unit and the screen does not seem to be removeable. I really like the way the v.3 top cools the vapor--quite impressive actually. Is your's a v. 3? If so, how did you pop out screen? I've tried a sharp knife, small flat screwdrivers, etc. to no avail.

Mine is the v3. I don't think you can do this on the previous versions. It's pretty easy to pop out. I'd clean and replace them all the time. I use an old "hook tool" from dugout I used to use and use the hook end into the slot and twisted it until it popped out. I bet a crafty cleaning tool would work too.

6 bucket screens also fit perfectly into the Crafty dosing capsules storage container. This is such a game changer for quick re-loads while on the go.

For a convection vape like the Alternate, how can one really insure that a burn off would be all that legit if the device is actually designed to get good heat running through it by hot air pulling through it?

For example, if I set the Alternate to 420° to do a burn off, wouldn't I need to do a draw to pull the hot air through or does the sidewall get hot enough during a burnoff session to truly burn off the plastic residues?

I blow air into the intake hole. Works pretty much like if you were sucking in from the top. You'll feel hot air blowing out the top. May or may not be good for the unit but it was necessary to burn mine off completely and it continues to work fine.

By "intake hole" do you mean the variable airflow hole thing? Or is there an intake somewhere else?

Did the top cap melting issue ever get fully resolved...? I stopped following after the 2nd run with the metal ring had reported issues

Well I think so. I've got a new one, with version 3 top/cooling chamber. I'm very impressed with how well it cools the vapor--an important issue to me...and to my lungs. There are no cracks or fissures or chips after daily use, hitting max temps for the final draw. I've only used flower. Hope this helps.

I've had the first, second, and third revisions of the caps. Both the first and second revisions cracked after about 2 or 3 weeks of use. I have 2 third revision caps now, and the one I'm using has been heavily used for the past 3 months with no issues. The worst thing that has happened is that the rubber piece of the inside has gotten a little clogged with reclaim, greatly reducing the airflow, but that's more of a cleaning issue than an issue with the manufacturing.

Alright, here are some comparative pics of the v2 and v3 caps. Sorry for the bad pictures. I'm not the best photographr but I think you can see the main details well enough.
v2 is on the left/top, v3 on the right/bottom
oTaJGOy.jpg

So here you can see the bottoms of each cap. There's not too much of a difference aside from the metal ring on the v3 being slightly thicker, though this is only the lip and as such the screen sizes are the same.

Here is the tops of each cap, and again there aren't many differences (ignore the missing moutpiece on the v2, I had to take it off when I broke the one on my other v3). The main difference is the ventilation holes where the Vivant logo used to be.
2Yvi6UH.jpg

Opening them up reveals the biggest changes of the v3 cap. As you can see, on the v2, vapor would simply enter the moutpiece, move past a few ridges, and then go straight into the mouthpiece. The lack of heat resistant plastic in the cap lead to them cracking.
The v3 changes this design completely. Now the vapor enters through the metal piece, and then goes through the silicone piece attached to it. The fins on the metal piece do not cool the vapor, but keep the metal piece cool (this is what the ventilation at the top of the mouthpiece is for), and redirects the heat away from the plastic of the mouthpiece.

I'm also pretty sure that the v3 cap is when they moved to PEAK as the material, which is more heat resistant than the original plastic used.

Hope this helped!

Just wanted to share my warranty experience with you guys. Vivant was quick to respond, and asked me to message the original retailer (Vaporrange) to get the unit replaced through them. When Vaporrange told me that they no longer carried the Alternate, all Vivant asked for from me was a proof of purchase and a video of the issue (mine was trouble code 1 popping up when trying to heat the device up). As soon as I did that I was sent an order confirmation from their site and then shortly after that I received a shipping confirmation. This was on monday, and I got my new Alternate today. It's so great to have a nice clean vape again. This was a pretty good warranty service in my experience. It was quicker and all around less complicated than say a Storz and Bickel RMA.

Does anyone know of some good stories/articles that go into detail about the lack of regulation in the vape industry? Doesn't seem like there needs to be a quality standard regarding the safety for users.

I'm just really not convinced that the vapor coming out of the alternate is safe to use. Just seems like too much cheap material and cheap plastics.

smokinjetson,
Why? Because of the housing cracking?

The main body of the Alternate cracking shows that the plastics are not at the quality that they probably should be.

Although I'm just kind of referring to regulation out there that makes the plastic on the Mighty/Crafty medical grade and the plastic on the Alternate not medical grade? What is stopping Vivant from not advertising the Alternate as featuring medical grade plastic?

As a consumer how do we know what is safer and safest?

That's where the internet is critical. It's the fastest way to share information ever created. I'm not trying to get political, but governments are itching to regulate vapes. The outcome of that can't be good for us.

Any articles you know of talking about govetnments itching to regulate vapes? If so, please share

I think that's getting a little too off topic for this thread, but rest assured many state and local governments are looking at this.

That being said, I just noticed a crack on the new Alternate I just got on January 17th. Not even a month this time!

Well my replacement Alternate that I've used less than 15 times has now developed cracks in the same spot as my old one. I've used only the official v3 mouthpiece and been EXTREMELY careful. This is ridiculous.

something like this or some other spot?
