iHeat 510 Heater Cartridge

My I-Heat was working very well in TC mode(SS316) at 410-420°F and 33W until yesterday evening, just warm but no vapor at this settings and now I'm using it 460°F and performances are not the same (lighter vapor). I can notice the resistance increase while heating, 0.32 cold and 0.40 at the end of the hit.... Is it possible to remove the shield to check if there is a loose connection?

Too bad cause I begun to like this unit very much!

edit: I just tested a bowl in power mode and it's perfect so maybe my issue comes from the Evic mini I use....
As @PPN my I-Heat was working very well in TCR until a few days. I was using it then suddenly TCr don't work everything stay cool so i switch in VW. It's work but...i was already in love with the TCr. After an 510 iso cleaning When i push the fire button in tcr i've got instant combustion to the first hit then second push the resistance go up to 0.6 or 1.25 (cold the resistance was 0.36...) and wattage stay at 1.5W. Sometimes i've got a no atomizer msg :mental:

My mod box is a SMOANT CHARON TC 218

Thanks @PPN to share your wattage settings
I use my 13 mm glass steam with cork sleeve at 33W max
with my 18 mm wood or glass stem it run between 34 and 38W but i still have hotspot need to experience more :freak::nod:

any tips with my TCr issue?

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but when out and about, the iHeat is incredibly stealth with my Witcher box. I see people parading around Manhattan with mod boxes all the time, no one gives them a second look. Great example of hiding in plain sight. I still don't know if I'd have the nerve to parade down Broadway hitting on my iHeat, but it's virtually invisible.

Bummer about the temp control issues. I can see how it would be a disappointment to have work and suddenly not work. It's tricky cause there's so many different mods out there!

This may be the wrong place to ask this question...What are the advantages of temp control over wattage??

I think with wattage control you only set how fast temp will rise, no feedback other than your throath

With TC there is a finnicky temp control feedback. It is not based on a temperature probe but on the resistence change while hotter. This would avoid temp rising up too mich while do preheating...
... while writing I think I better understand Alan and Bravesst point about this matter: if you need to preheat your whole airpath then a TC would be very usefull as it allows you not to overheat and scorch
With a real on demand device you are cooling the resistence while drawing, and without preheating time i expect it to become natural to adjust it to your draw speed right as described (without need for tricky counting technique),

I just economized 70€ for the vapeman steam thing dna75 I was looking at too close

It would look nice though

Since my I-heat wasn't working anymore in ss mode I used it in power mode and wasn't satisfied at all, vapor wasn't really thick and the hot airstream burned my throat. Sometimes I got a nice hit but most of the time it was a waste of time and weed.
Although I know there is a lot of potential and tried again in TCR mode, I set M1 at 240, M2 at 340 and M3 at 300 and started experimentations with M1 at 400°F and 31W, I feel some heat but it didn't vaped the weed at all...., moved to M3 and got an impressive hit! A bit too much so I decreased the TCR at 290 and use my I-Heat like that for now with great success between 350-410°F!

Forgotten to mention I got the chance to get a new assorted blackwood I-Heat stem, many thanks to you @boon to have helped me for shipping (he offered me to put my stem order in his package coming from Alan!!)

Mine should not take too long to ship, cant’ wait to try it

I have a smoant charon to pair with IH, it is a 2 battery mod but not dna. Sorry if you already wrote this @PPN, what is your mod? Is it a dna chip based or standard one?

I have been under the weather, so progress has been slow lately. I was able to complete some iHeat 510 wood bodies. Here is a photo of my latest batch of 25mm diameter wood bodies.

iheatwoodbodies1.jpg

Left to right in the front row - black and white ebony, tulip wood, marble wood, elm burl, pink ivory, osage orange.
Left to right in the back row - highly figured walnut, maple burl, dark walnut, light walnut, highly figured walnut.

@Andreaerdna - Yours is the dark walnut wood in the center back row. Just need to get your other tube finished and your order will be ready to go.

@PPN - Glad you got your black wood stem from @boon. It worked out for all. Happy you are finding success in TCR mode. I have just been sticking to power mode now that I have the wattage level and draw speed that works well for me. I like to use as little battery power as possible so it will provide more hits per charge.

@boon - It does seem to work best when the cartridge is installed until just snug. If it is loose, there won't be a good connection. Good that you cleaned any oils from the 510 connection as that can be a problem too. I have found that there is a grey film that builds up on the negative contacts for the battery that must be wiped off to ensure good conductivity. Sometimes even just re-installing the batteries will help get it to work in TCR mode again. May have something to do with the resistance always changing and confusing the controls. The mod boxes that can lock the resistance value may be a better option. Could be just a matter of updating the programming. I haven't played with the temperature control mode too much lately as I'm happy with just the power mode.
Try loading only as much as the basket screen to see if it helps with the hot spot. If the air has a hard time going through the pack, it will find the easiest path with is right in the center.

@Bravesst @hoyo77 - I look at the temperature control mode vs power mode sort of like an automatic transmission vs a manual transmission. The temperature control mode will still input heat at a set wattage rate, but will stop when a target temperature is reached. I just like to take manual control and only input heat when I'm drawing air through the flower. It keeps the wood body cooler and the battery lasts longer. The idea for a portable is to have a very long battery life.

Just a simple evic Mini, lowered the TCR to 280, I hit hit when it reaches the 330-370°F temperature range (after 4-5s at 31W), slowly if I want thick clouds and a bit harder if i want to preserve the taste. It rarely hit the 400°F (where it shows the "temperature protection" message) except if I hit it very , very slowly.

Got good clouds through my bubblers too, I really start to like this vape!

I'm so happy I didn't gave up with the I-Heat! I can confess I was very close to put it for sale in the Classifieds... but I tried again and again... and finally found my perfect spot (tcr280, 31W and 350-410°F).

Please folks, do you get an idea for a good 2 batteries mod to drive the I-heat? would like to get a DNA based device but I don't think I can afford it, I already own an Evic mini and I like it, is the dual a good call?

I own a Movkin disguiser and like the recessed threading(but not the poor TC modes, no TCR here), although I don't like the look of the Witcher at all and prefer a simpler design, any inputs would be considered!

I chose smoant charon because it was described as a cheap mod with good temp control (IIRC was @KeroZen who suggested smoant as a reliable mod for this application) but yet have to try

As soon as I get my IH i will report how they pair. thank you for sharing your settings; they should be collected somewhere easy to access IMO

i can't find the iheat mod, can soameone link me their site or where to buy it?

@Vape Dr. i really like your solution, i think i'm going to build that thing, how much pocketable is? my only problem is that i can't find where to buy that atomizer on web

witcherapplewalnut.jpg

It is 93mm tall not including the stem which is about the same height as my cuboid mod box without the cartridge installed. The Witcher has a 75w capacity which is more than plenty to make hot air for roasting.
It feels very comfortable in my hand and works very well so far. The battery life seems very good, but depends upon the wattage level. So far the unit stays very cool to then touch. More testing is required.

It turns out that I was wrong about the TCR mode for the iHeat @KeroZen. I got it to work with my Cuboid box, but it won't work with the Witcher. The Cuboid has twice the wattage capacity of the Witcher which may be the reason why it works. It might also be the software.
I find the power mode to be very effective with the Witcher.

The apple wood is finished with some natural carnauba wax from @mistvaporizer which seems to provide more of a shine than beeswax. May have to play around with it a bit more.

There is a wait list for gear from Alan, takes a while to make these one of a kind items, and the list is not short, so a new name added is looking at a year and a half wait btw. He was selling some older on hand logs and heat islands in bamboo slightly more prompt with shorter list, but not sure if the iHeat can be acquired similarly as it is newer. Also as Kero reported bamboo may not be ideal for the iHeat anyway

I'm still a few months away from reaching the top of the list. I'm hoping by May or June. Anyway, can someone post a picture of using theirs with water? Or a whip?

Ever notice that most popular vapes threads are littered with issues. In other words, the threads are huge, but lots of the comments are complaints, problems, issues, people searching for solutions. Not this thread, just pure sharing of information.
I like your post but you exagerate a bit, a lot of us got issues to get it to work consistently in TC mode, fixed for me and for now!

Hi @KeroZen did you tried my settings with your Evic Mini? they work perfectly I get thick enough vapor under a 10s hits without charring! Even able to vape a load (a small one, I placed my basket screen just on the lips of the wonw (wood on wood!) ) without to stir.

who can expose his thought on vapor quality? i'm studying and i can buy only one vape, i'm thinking about this, or the boundless tera, i think this gonna be intersteng and cheaper but also a great deal if the quality of vapor is top notch. my questions are the same: the bowl size, vapor production (how rips this thig?), vapor quality for who wants to taste all different strain flavour profiles, and hoe many fully vaped bowl you can vape with one charge?
