Mixing my own cbd-mct ejuice

I recently started getting more into vaping in an effort to cut down on smoking so much bud. I’m trying to just stick with cbd-only products for a bit, of nothing else for a tolerance break, but also hope to see some improvements in my motivation. Anyway, I’ve been getting my cbd from CBDistillery and I just bought the KandyPen RUBI. I’ve been kind of just arbitrarily mixing cbd terpsolate with mct oil this past week (maybe 1:1 or 1:2), but was hoping to find some guidelines on a good ratio to work with. If anybody can point me in the direction for such or offer their own mixing recipes, I’d really appreciate it.

I was also wondering what yall’s thoughts on and experiences with using mct oil as a carrier are? I’ve noticed a slight wheezy cough after vaping with it all night, but it goes away pretty quick after my last puff (maybe 20 mins). Is this common? I’m assuming it’s the mct, but am hoping it’s just because I’m using too high a ratio of mct:cbd, or maybe just low-quality mct oil. I’m a bit concerned about the byproducts of vaping PG and VG, whereas I feel more confident of mct’s chemical stability based on my (limited) chemistry knowledge. Nonetheless, I am getting this cough. Any insights on this would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

MCT or medium chain triglycerides are a form of lipids. Lipids (fats are one) should never be inhaled as they can cause a lipid pneumonia.

I found a rather detailed thread on another forum you may be interested in reading. It will give you some guidance on how to make pure cannabis concentrate... among other things.

MCT is best for CBD isolate and sublingual use.

PG breaks down cbd powder or crystals (or terpsolate). Mix them and heat in the bottle. Then add VG. Great for vaping. Unsure how to avoid PG or VP unless you use a dab pen.

I ended up mixing 1:1 with mct oil. Tried some PG, but couldn’t stand the taste. The cbd-mct mix causes a small amount of irritation after a full night of vaping, but not as bad as before (which I think was like 1:3 cbd:mct); I’m not noticing the dry cough I was having before either, maybe was the mix or just a mild throat cold. Next order I make, I’ll probably up the ratio to 2:1 cbd:mct.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
Got bored a couple nights ago......

While rummaging through my miscellaneous vaporizer box (Big box I keep my parts and less used vape items in) I found a little concentrate left over from a few months back that I forgot about. The concentrate was high in THC and much lower in CBD so the high was mostly head based.

I also ran into a low dose CBD cartridge we got when we legally qualified for cannabis but only qualified for low dose cannabis. It contained 0.62% THC, 30.62% CBD. The CBD cartridge wasn't helpful for migraines so after using it like crazy for two weeks it ended up in the miscellaneous box. The CBD cartridge used MCT oil and was pretty runny compared to other oil cartridges I had experience with.

So I got this idea to combine the concentrate and CBD oil and see what would happen.....

I used a really thick shot glass and placed the concentrate and CBD oil in it. The concentrate was hard in terms of texture. I don't know the measures involved but it looked like the concentrate was 66% of the shot glass contents. I microwaved a 1/2 inch of water in a ceramic bowl till boiling and removed the ceramic bowl and placed it on top of the stove. I then put the shot glass in the ceramic bowl when the boiling bubbles had stopped. The water from the ceramic bowl reached about halfway up the side of the shot glass and no water made it's way into the shot glass. I then covered the top of the shot glass with a small ceramic plate and let the whole thing sit for 10 minutes. When I removed the plate everything was liquefied. I used the syringe to hand mix the shot glass contents for 5 minutes and when it looked like it was all mixed together I recovered it and let it sit for another 5 minutes. Took the cover off again...mixed it again for good measure and then used the syringe to suck up the mixtures and place it back into the original oil cartridge. The mixture was very warm but not so hot it couldn't be touched.

The concentrate had made the mixture super thick even when warm. Thicker than any cartridge oil I had seen before so I thought that it might be too thick to work in my e-cig/pen. When the mixture cooled down in the cartridge it became thicker still and barely moved. The mixture was so dark you couldn't see through it.

Put the cartridge back on the e-cig and mouth pumped a hit. First hit didn't produce any vapor so on the second hit I took a 5 second draw and out came a cotton candy thick white cloud. Surprised the hell out of me because it wasn't as irritating as a cloud that thick normally is for me.

The CBD oil in its original form never got us a buzz and the concentrate on it's own was light on the body buzz. Putting them together like that produced a very nice entourage affect.

Taste wise the cartridge oil wasn't great when we first purchased it and did improve some when the concentrate was added.

I'm saving the newly filled cartridge for out and about and will definitely do this again.

Or just pg/vg as said above

Ya. Agree. Makes me concerned about lipid pneumonia. I make tincture with mct and hemp derived terps, vape juice with pg/vg and cannabis derived terps. I've used the hemp terps too in my vape juice.

Mct worries me. Lipid pneumonia. I make eliquid. Very low nic. And CBD eliquid. Pg/vg for both. I use mct for tinctures.
