Why is wasting vapor on YouTube reviews so popular?

Boden

Aspie polymath
Every time I watch a video review the reviewers seem to have a thing about exhaling a cloud of unabsorbed vapor.

To me this makes no sense. You payed for that herb, you want it to be as effective as possible.

Hold that hit in and let it absorb.

Also taking hits so massive they exhale a huge cloud of waisted vapor then proceed to harsh out and start coughing. What is this... amateur hour? Stop abusing yourself.

Then, when they are clearly high as a kite, they pack another bowl, then another.

:mental:

There is an old adage “You arent getting any higher just lower on weed” and it’s true.

One last thing. If you are a reviewer please stop mentioning clearly dodgy activity like vaping in a car or in public. If someone wants to use a device to break the law let them figure that out by themself.
Also, referring to your ADV (all day vape) as a “daily driver” :uhh: just no. Metrics matter and our opponents are watching.

Seriously... why is this so common?

My take on it is to get people to subscribe and that is basically it!
No one wants to watch some random person puffing out tiny clouds of light blue vapor... I would as it would show a vaporizers true potential to provide medication at all levels.

A lot of those people are sponsored and get the herb/concentrate for free so it does not affect them in any way...

It is people like this as well as the people who light massive joints at rallies that gives all of us users a negative shadow...

Does holding it in result in more absorption? I can't remember where, but I heard that the lung only absorps when the air inside it moves. If that's true, holding it in wouldn't make you higher?

And I mean it's a review, of course they try to show off how much vapor the vape can produce.

Your lungs can only absurd so much and then you are basically just starving your brain of oxygen. This is why you feel higher imo.

With my vapes, when the vapor starts to get thick I stop inhaling and clear the tube. I am finding i get higher this way with holding the vapor in for around 5 seconds. Still blow out a lot but it is much thinner.
The flavor also last a lot longer this way instead of one massive hit!

If they are doing a review then the point of the video if showing the audience what the performance of the vape/strain looks like.
To do that you should the clouds its making. That's more immediately and objectively visible that getting high.
You can't tell how strong it was by looking at how high the person appears. They could have high or no tolerance, they could fake being totally out of it or act normal, and the entire set/setting and their personality, body chemistry etc all could influence that.
Of course telling by cloud also isn't precise, but much better that seeing the high.
Also if they're reviewing shit, they probably don't want to be wated doing that and fuck it up.
If you catch a cloud on camera, it didn't go to waste, it just fulfilled a different purpose.

Yes

That’s the opposite of what is happening in this case. We are not absorbing a gas but an aerosol. The aerosol needs time to settle on the surface of your lungs.

And I mean it's a review, of course they try to show off how much vapor the vape can produce.

Showing off that with this device you too can be “that guy” that blows clouds and annoys everyone. Seems like an odd thing to brag about. :hmm:

People emulate reviewers. Should they not set a good example? Or is this a weed version of the Jackass show.

If they are doing a review then the point of the video if showing the audience what the performance of the vape/strain looks like.

But it’s a false equivalency. A device could produce a huge volume of aerosol that is scorched and nasty but would, by this logic, be viewed as superior.

They are a reviewer. They can tell me if it works well or not.

In looking at the comment sections of the more popular cannabis YouTube channels, the audiences seem to thrive (and thus subscribe) when the ‘Show Host’ is blowing massive London fog type clouds. In my viewing experience they seem to be doing considerably more smoking than vaping.

In some instances I believe the uncontrollable coughing and hacking (or worse) are all part of the act to attract additional viewers. I actually feel sorry for many of them, especially the delusional ones who think that they have a long term career in the YouTube world.

Good point. So don’t hold it in for longer than about a minute.

I find that taking lots of small hits with almost no exhaled vapor (wrong word but common) is the most effective technique.

This is what is puzzling me.

For example; Positive smash is hard to watch. Each time she posts something I may be interested in I hope she has stopped abusing herself for strangers adoration. She starts off informative and then for some reason goes too far. I have to stop watching at that point. I keep thinking ‘why are you doing this to yourself?’

The Vape Critic is the best I’ve found. It amuses me when he is vaping normally and holding it in but then, with some snark points out he has forgotten to ‘show the clouds’. I like that he is self aware that that part is useless but people seem to like it.

Lazy, are you not a little guilty of this yourself occasionally?;)

Lol! Im kind of with the OP on this, although I think it could be put a little more delicately.
I certainly subscribe to the belief that holding vapor in the lungs (note- it needs to be INSIDE the lungs to do anything, not just in your throat/upper airways) for 5-10 seconds substantially increases the effects in every way.

I have been conserving and rationing weed for many years and have observed the undoubted correlation between instant exhale and greatly weaker effects, vs a 5-10 second hold. If weed was free Im sure I would just vaoe more, harder, and exhale whenever, to a point of course (I mean not being ridiculously wasteful, like chewing beef and spitting it out, just because you can afford it! )

So yes I have always seen the immediate exhales of huge clouds as wasteful, but I can understand why people do it in Youtube reviews, and to be honest I don't have any problem with it. It is actually a valid way to show the potential of a vaporizer to hit hard, and certainly not worth being annoyed about.

There are a lot of far more annoying things going on in my mind. People blowing huge clouds of vapor doesn't make me angry at least.

We all draw the line for ourselves somewhere. I've gotten less miserly over the years. I started vaping for efficiency and smoking is such a waste to me that I can't do it. I used to vape bowls until they were almost ash because I didn't want to waste any. I also tried exhaling into a bag and re-inhaling it to capture the exhaled waste. I didn't notice any stronger effects doing that, though, and dropped that one quickly.

Then I hung out with some of my Cali friends and those guys throw stuff away after two vape hits. I was running around saving their leftovers because there was a TON of goodness in there and they were just laughing at me...'all the terps were gone!'

I still have piles of abv around for night time use, so I haven't completely changed, but I don't sweat it much anymore. I blow clouds because I think it's fun...nothing more. I like blowing rings and big clouds and watching the vapor flow. Whether it's physically true or not, I think the masses equate big clouds with potency, so they are drawn to it. I know I am, and I should know better. I don't hide that my videos are ridiculous. I call it fantasy land. Black wall, tweaked lighting, very little air movement and the vapor pops. I think it's beautiful!

My only problem comes when I try to apply my standard to others. I've gotten better. I no longer collect my Cali friends' trash! But it still hurts to watch...

I think it is because so many of us come from combustion and love "big clouds" from the "good" (rather bad) old times. It took me nearly a year (and a Vapman) to give a fuck about visible vapor while exhaling and to realize that it is not the "big cloud" that gets me baked, but the efficiency of my vaporizer when it comes to extraction. In fact, I only stopped caring one week ago.

So: Fuck combustion! Fuck big clouds! One Love! Get high with wispy hits - Your lung will sing "Hallelujah" out of gratitude and you save LOTS of your precious material while still getting high like a stoned weasel.

I love maxing out my lungs when taking a rip but i never hold it in as its completely pointless as someone above stated, your air sacks can only hold so much. They say about 95% is absorbed upon contact. To me, taking 5-7 little hits does nothing for me but waste time. I rather max out on two rips and get on with my day or night. There are also days i will dab over and over and over just to pass the fuck out.

I dont find it being wasteful as it is serving a purpose for me that is. My lungs can only hold so much and i will try to put as much in it as i can. Personally, i just like being stoned off my ass late night before bed.

What i think is wasteful is when i video of a dude trying to dab 14 grams of shatter at once or another dude doing like 30 grams at once. That is wasteful and nearly pointless.

Holding your breath with vapor in your lungs does basically nothing for you but deprive you of oxygen which will lead to feeling light headed (some people thing they feel higher) and increase heart rate and possibly sweat.

You can smoke a bowl exhale real quick, then take a breath and hold it for a min. You will feel higher than as well.

The Herbalizer is a really good example of a vape that generally doesn’t produce huge clouds but 15 mins later it will lay you out. The high is sneakier but feels more medicinal than recreational if that makes sense?

The big cloudy hits from my Vapcaps give me more immediate effects that are far sharper than my Herbalizer.

Perhaps there’s a correlation with the density of the vapour and the onset of the effects?

It sounds like we have some differing opinions here about the merits of holding your hits.

Is the correct understanding that since we're dealing with an aerosol you can hold a draw and the settling of the vapor will lead to more efficient absorption even though air isn't moving during the hold time?

It is the chemical density of the vapor per cm^3. High heat extraction does this to a point ~410*F then you start to get oxidized byproducts above that temp.

The vapcaps are relatively high heat extractors. So you are getting all the goodies at once in small volume that can spread out in your lungs.

Yes. The still air actually lets the droplets settle out of suspension.

Think about a dusty space. Keep the air moving and the dust stays (mostly) in suspension. Stop the air moving around and the dust settles.

I’m glad you found a happy balance. When I started vaping full time in 04’ and I finally realized how much goodness I had exhaled in the 25 years before I went a little nuts as well.

Now I only get cranky when one of my friends makes me laugh while I’m taking a hit.

Perfectly good rip waisted. :D ;)

At least I don’t blow embers all over the place any more.

My Herbalizer is usually set at 430- 445°F so it’s also high heat, but the vapour is more diluted.

Perhaps it’s the terpenes that are giving me the sharper high from a Vapcap? Less time to condense?

We’re getting slightly off topic but I think the original question was answered?

His_Highness

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
Some folks are looking to buy a vape that is able to produce serious clouds because they are trying to quit combustion.

Some want a vape that can produce serious clouds for special occasions as a treat.

Some folks who don't chase clouds still want to see some vapor when the use so they want to see huge clouds for a vape they're interested in because they feel comfortable buying that vape because they'll produce visible vapor.

There are those who just equate big clouds with big highs.

Those reviews are what "some folks" are looking for when they are considering buying a vape. It's about sales and wasting some flowers while making the video sales pitch is nothing more than collateral damage. Personally....I like those videos.

Also....I'm a plus 1 for believing that using a 5 second re-breathing technique to get more mileage out of a hit works. I have a close relative who used to smoke and vape herb like he was smoking cigarettes. He'd inhale and exhale immediately. We'd be getting high and after several hits where I did the 5 second re-breathing I'd be high (and not from oxygen starvation) and I'd say I'm done and he'd need to carry on. I didn't mind his immediate exhale when it was his weed but it used to aggravate me a tad when it was mine

For me absorption=density. I get very high if I extract 0,07 gr in one or two big slow draws with the showerhead at 710. I need triple this with the portables and I dont even get to the same point. Like in dabs, a very dense hit gets you blazed because of this thc overkill that saturates the endocannabinoid system at one point, opening all the pathways to absorb this excess of cannabinoids and thus making effects much stronger and faster.

In the early days of me vaping, I would hold that shit in until nothing came out. For a while a was convinced that holding it in didn't do much of anything and I stopped for a while. I'm somewhere in the middle now.

It's fun blowing out a big huge amount of vapor. I love seeing a friend take a hit that's too big. They cough and vapor find the room. It's funny. Even wasting all this vapor it's still way more potent than smoking.

Yeah it's vapor porn. I don't usually have anyone to vape with so yeah, sometimes I blow a cloud with someone on the internet.

It's kind of funny to me that it upsets you so much but hey they have a right to blow clouds in video and you have a right to hate it lol

I feel the need to address something. I do hold vapor in, and yes it makes me higher, and no it's not oxygen deprivation in 5 to 10 seconds. I do breathing techniques where I hold my breath much much longer than this and I don't even get light headed and high then, either. So no, I do not believe this line of thinking is accurate. It's definitely not accurate for me. I've been light headed and I've been high. Even both at the same time. I do know the difference.

My Vapor Tower will definitely creep up on me if I’m not paying attention. Smooth tasty draws. Nom nom nom... then... wham, I’m plowed. :D

With the Vaps the small dense hit, much like a joint, will roast me that’s for sure.

Agreed, the question has been answered. YouTube is a freak show. Enjoy it for what it is.
