The Dating Thread

Have a good date story? A bad one? What's the best/worst?

I have a thousand or so hilariously bad date stories. I know I'm not alone.

----------------

I'll start out with the opening to one of the best dates I ever had, and certainly the best meeting ever (for me, at least!)

Meeting lady from dating site at a bar we both know. I walk in & do the scan to see who looks relatively like the pics & see her talking to some guy at the bar very comfortably. Ok. Did she bring a coworker because I might be insane? She sees me. "Hi Gaseous! (she jumps up & give me a friendly quick hug.) "This is Joe." I shake his hand & we say hello. I then start talking to her & he fades into the background. So after a few minutes of generic date chatting I ask her "So what's with your friend, Joe?" "Oh, he's no friend of mine. He was just hitting on me. I told him I was meeting someone & he wouldn't stop. He was trying to convince me to leave with him when you walked in."

I'm 6'2". Joe was like 5'6"

It also happened to be the best first kiss moment on a date I ever had. In NYC by the subway entrance, cool February night, in the background is the Museum of Natural History. I ask what she is doing in a few days & tell her I'd like to see her again. She responds that she is actually going on a planned vacation in the morning to spend a week laying on a Caribbean beach. I stopped walking, holding her hand, look dead into her eyes and said "I hate you," then kissed her.

(Relationship imploded a few months later, ironically about a week after she got her new glasses prescription...)

So this thread went nowhere... Yet I had another fun little experience from the other day!

I knew it was a bad idea, but I answered a dating post on Craigslist (you never know, right?) She wanted to meet, but instead of the usual just meeting for coffee she said to just come by her place & we could smoke up (I took a vape, cuz I am relatively civilized.)

So I get to her building & ring the buzzer. No answer. As I was about to leave this guy comes up looking a bit nervous. I step back. He rings the same buzzer. I held the laughter as I leave. No idea what was going on with that, but whatever. It was enough to snap me out of looking at that craigslist trap.

I might be available if you want to drop by with your loaded vape. But first send pic....of your stash and vape.

Went on a double date this weekend

Friend drove. Leaving his house, he backs into my car (he forgot to angle around it) purely aesthetic damage, but a decent bit of damage none the less.

I spill 2 beers (and thus flush $15 or so down toilet), forgetting about vibration on arcade machines, can't set beer on them...

My date fiending for air hockey, we get half a game in, she scores, puck is stuck, machine broken

Friends date loses her phone

All in all though was a great evening, we're a bunch of fuckups lol

This will be post # 2000 for me and I was hoping for a decent thread/post to make the number. Hopefully this qualifies....

I was 17 and had a Honda 500 4 stroke motorcycle with a king/queen seat and 3 inch extension. It sat pretty low. The bike looked wicked but wouldn't go past 70 mph. I had just joined the Navy and one block off the main gate of the naval base was a hole in the wall strip joint. The kind of place where MD 20/20 was their classiest beverage. It was always my first stop for the night and sometimes my last .... they didn't card anyone and the scenery was good.

I was on my own and heading back to base and stopped in that strip joint for a beer. I was watching the dancers and enjoying my beer. One of the strippers sat down next to me and asked me to buy her a drink and spend some time with her in one of the private rooms. I told her I appreciated the offer but I don't pay women to spend time with me. She snickered and walked off. A little later the same stripper came over and told me she was on break and needed a ride to pick up some weed and said she'd give me some if I took her. So off we went. The house was next to a small park so I parked my bike in the park and she asked me to stay with the bike while she walked over to the house.

She came out with a couple nickle bags and we sat down by the park's pond and smoked a joint. It was a beautiful night. After we smoked that joint I tried to kiss her but she turned away and called me an asshole. With all the accusations going on these days I need to make it clear I wasn't aggressive or groping her or anything like that. I just leaned in for a kiss unexpectedly and almost made contact. She said she left her pocketbook on the bike and would be right back. As I laid there looking up at the stars expecting to apologize and smoke another joint I heard my bike start and off she went. WTF!!! Bitch stole my bike! I can't remember ever feeling so surprised, pissed and stupid all at the same time. It took me over an hour to walk back to the strip joint. My bike was parked in the front with my two helmets tied to it.

I took one of the helmets off the bike and restrung the chin strap so I could grip it in my hand and swing it like a club if it got ugly. Trust me...if you're going to confront a stripper one block from the main gate of naval base you better have something other than your dick in your hand. So I walked in and there she was sitting with some guy at the far end of the bar. She saw me coming in, took one look at the way I was holding that helmet, jumped up, laughing wildly and said "Calm down and I'll let you take me home".

She was 26 and we lived together in her rat trap of a trailer for almost 6 months after that. Best time I ever had getting my bike stolen.

I wouldn't call it theft. Sounds like a great stroke of luck to me.....congrats.

You didn't have to make it clear :) we know you're a gentleman

I can only imagine how much more complicated dating will get for younger generations.

Just glad to get out before pegging caught on.

Vegan, but don't like animals - no more than people anyway. Go back to vegan date's place. She introduces her rescued rats and places the biggest one on my shoulder. Who wouldn't be cool with that?

While still dating, ~10 years ago, meticulously kept an OKCupid profile. No one ever initiated. Got replies from about 1 out of 100 people contacted. Recently, made an anonymous profile as a joke. "What are you really good at?" "Hiding". Used another dental x-ray as a profile pic. That sort of thing. Multiple, immediate replies.

I met my (second) wife on OKCupid. I, too, never had someone else initiate contact but understand that is the general rule for men on dating sites. Everyone's equal, but men initiate online.

I got replies in almost all cases. But, I wasn't a "Hey, 'sup" kind of guy. I'd read the profile and try to ask questions I was interested in based on what was written. I was not a numbers guy where the theory is to throw out high numbers of contacts in the hope some small percentage replied. Then again, I'm an old guy who never voted left or right in my life so my goals might have been different from the average user.

Don't want to ruin the story but.....It wasn't all a treat.....she was 9 years older than me, played more games than Toys-R-Us and really knew how to move the pieces. She mentally had me wrapped around the axle so often I couldn't move the wheels at times. The story ends with me having to sell that bike because of her and coming back from a 6 month med-cruise to find she had shacked up with another guy. Still....what I learned from her at that age was priceless even if it wasn't painless.

Point was that while trying to attract produced near total rejection, deliberately trying to repel drew considerable interest - a common observation on dating.

Unfortunately, that is kind of how the online dating game and in general the online world works now a days. And, something I was kind of ignorant to.

I'm a dude, I have social media, you know what I don't have? Chicks just unsolicited sliding into my messages asking me questions, chicks commenting about how cute I look on photos, etc.

Chicks....get this shit constantly lol. I've always been perceptive of it and that's why I've never done it, but the sheer volume....that I was ignorant of.

Sure it can work out but 9/10 times I feel you are just coming across as a creep/desperate, especially on a platform like FB where it isn't designed as a dating app.

But this kind of goes hand in hand with:

Point was that while trying to attract produced near total rejection, deliberately trying to repel drew considerable interest - a common observation on dating.

This is true fme - girls (I'm sure dudes do too, but I've never had this) find when a guy comes on strong and in his mind is trying to attract, impress, show interest, etc , the girl will perceive that as "this guy is desperate/needy/etc"

Not all cases but I have more success on slow burn where I give minimal interaction other than setting up dates (and sporadically at that), than when I would text or talk all the time and constantly try to see them.

Makes sense from a biological and sexual standpoint. A dude, physiologically, we are "ready" for sex in no time at all (all it takes is a boner). So we tend to "act" at that similar fast rate.

But chicks, physiologically, they need warmed up.....how much warm up, depends, but in general it's always going to be slower than a dude.

That's why when guys go from 0-100 , they fail. They are operating on a dudes mindset. If you operate on a chicks mindset and go from 0-10, then from 10-30, 30-40, etc and slowly ramp it up, more success!

Obviously not a one size fits all but seems to be a good general rule of thumb

The approach to looking for a date is dependent on the goal isn't it?

Someone who is looking for a sex partner may use the high volume approach while the person looking for a serious relationship would be more selective and more sensitive.

I had a working acquaintance who told me ... for every 3 ladies I ask to dance/buy-a-drink, one will say yes...... of the 3 that said yes one would let me take them home.....of the 3 that let me take them home one would have sex with me. He could take rejection like nobody's business because getting 8 no's meant he was almost there. Me and this guy would occasionally go out for a drink or to a disco (Yeah...Had to blow the dust of the word disco here) and initially I hated it. By the time I got my drink and got comfortable he was ready to leave because he had approached every available lady already. Over time I came to realize he was on to something (pun intended) because of how often he left with a lady and I just left. Did I mention he was a salesman? The number of times I heard a lady shoot him down was amazing to me because some of the ladies who shot him down like that would sometimes ask him to sit with them. He wasn't abrasive or aggressive. He was average looking, confident, quick witted and funny. I attended his wedding and congratulated him on not working the room and sticking around for the entire wedding. In case anyone is interested...he met his wife at work.

Lol, in my neck of the woods responding to a Craigslist ad like that runs you a 50% chance of getting robbed or murdered. Glad youre still with us!

Was just thinking about the longest relationship I ever had (1.5 years.) We're friends now, and in a drunken moment she admitted that the entire first date she spent thinking about how to end the date ASAP & hope I never called. She changed her mind when I went for a kiss & she thought it had been a while, so what the hell. Then it was the debate between giving this awful date another shot or not.

On the other hand I thought it was a great date. I sang all the way home. Shows how much I know.

Still, I felt it would have been wrong to have told her she should have just ended the date early if it was that bad & let me get the fuck on with my blissfully ignorant existence.
