So...The Alternate got me back into vaping flower when I got an amazing deal on it last fall-$60. Which is insane for something that has a lot of advantages over the Crafty...However, I could never get over the hot air-the vapor just wasn't cooled enough with that mouthpiece. I pretty much moved on to my other devices and hadn't touched it since around Halloween.

Last week I said WTF, and ordered a Mighty WPA from Delta3 Studios which was confirmed to work with the Alternate. It arrived today. It totally changed my mind about the Alternate. TOTALLY. I'm more of a sipper than a session guy so my vapcaps will be my daily drivers. But when I want to do a session, or share with friends, the Alternate with the WPA will be a wonderful way to go.

$49.07US is the cheapest postage option to Australia.

$38 to Canada. Would be nice if there was other options for shipping - bubble envelope and a stamp for $5 - for accessories. I dont need UPS shipping for a $3.99 order.

I've got @Ratchett's nearly universal WPA which fits over the mouthpiece, and it works nicely with my water pipe. The migty WPA and Vivant's new ones are more elegant, but its good that there are multiple options now. Vivant does rip through water, no question!

Ordered an Alternate the other day, arrives tomorrow. I already own FF2, Crafty, 2 CFs, 2 APX, MFLB, and a few strays. I've been using the FF2 at home and the Crafty at home and while out, lately that's skiing every day. But I get concerned about damaging the Crafty. I looked at Swiftpro/Flowermate. Healthy Rips Force, and several others. I've also read about all the plastic taste and plastic falling apart with the Alternate. But there are so few vaporizers that do a decent job of cooling the vapor for my old smoking damage but still athletic lungs. This is one of the few with a cooling path/cooling chamber. I also am attracted to the regulated airflow, as that is the #1 drawback with my FF2. It arrives Sat. and I'll let you know how it goes. I ordered directly from Vivant to get the latest upgrades to firmware and device(cooling unit) and got a 15% discount code so I paid $110 direct including shipping.

I think you will like it, given what you’re looking for. It does a decent job of cooling, especially now with the new top cap. And taste is good too, as long as you can get past any initial plasticky smells. Some units are more smelly than others.

Yes, it is flimsy. But the design and features can’t be beat for the price. I recently broke down and got a Mighty, which is awesome, but sometimes it’s just too much for me! Alternate serves me as a poor person’s Crafty, and great to go out the house with.

Just had nice back-to-back sessions with my Alternate through my WP. Filled up the bowl loosely with a medium grind and a light tamp; 1) White Tahoe Cookies & 2) Hot Cherry. I did step sessions starting at 365 to 385 to 400 to 428, I stirred once at 428. Nice full extraction.

I've learned that battery powered, timed devices probably aren't portable for me as I can't use them without a WP. I can't dump that much hot air into my lungs over 2-5 minutes. I'm better off using a cartridge with a good 510 pen when out and about if I want to be really discrete, or a vapcap if discretion isn't as big a deal.

Over the past week I've come to really respect what the Alternate can do. I just had to learn how to best use it for me. And as so often happens, I learned that through threads like these. @Vivant kudos.

By replacing the screen on the 3.0 topcap with an Arizer Bucket screen you can turn your Alternate into a mean, green, convection-machine! Great effects, worth the try!
do you put another screen in to prevent the herb from falling into the chamber, or does the airflow keep it up

Is the alternate a better choice than the swift pro?

I have the Boundless CFV (which is the same as the swift pro) and unequivocally I would say the Alternate beats it hands-down. The Alternate creates much larger clouds of vapor, but takes longer to heat up and has a somewhat smaller bowl for material. The big downside of the swift pro is the battery, it was given too small of a battery, so it only lasts for a couple of sessions before needing to be charged. The swappable battery of the Alternate means its easy to just put in another fresh one when you need more juice.

still my daily driver, the triangle of cracks is cracked but still in "one" piece. shame because once it fails then there goes the spring system for positive terminal. the lip that locks in the top cap also deteriorated more and now top cap does not lock and falls off if not supported while using it... i love all the features that this thing has but the material is a pure downer.

did anyone try that bong adapter? looks funny and i would like see it on the actual unit. does this go over the top cap OR instead? @Vivant

Barely touched my Alternate since I got Fury2. Does anyone have similar experience?

Im intrigued about the Fury 2 or the Force.....which is similar to the fenix......How would you compare the fury to the Alternate?

The heater system is very similar but Fury2 has smaller/narrower chamber and performs way better than Alternate (especially with small doses). Included WPA is excellent microdosing tool (you can also use WPA without glass).

When it comes time to replace my Alternate the Fury 2 is currently the top choice for $ and performance. I think having a quick and easy battery powered digital session vape is a must have. But me thinks '18 could see some interesting developments in all vaping 'genres'; butane, battery, regulated, unregulated, on-demand, and more glass accessories as well.

It's a cool time to be into vaping.

@purplegreen Thank you for your question. Yes, the Alternate WPA goes over the actual top cap.

Just got a "Trouble Code 1" when trying to heat the vape up :-(. Anyone else have this? I probably need to make a warranty claim

Or use your USB cable and download free updater, and try to update the unit, this often resets and clears the issue.
I wish i could, the USB port on my Alternate has been defective for quite a while. It wasn't a problem as I have multiple batteries and an external charger, but now it's coming back to bite me in the ass.

This works great. I picked up a 5 pack of these bucket screens at the local pipe store. Twice the load capacity instantly if you fill both sides.

I think you just invented dosing capsules for the Alternate.
