You can download ArcticFox to quite a few box mods if you don’t want to rely on @funkyjunky, it’ll let you increase the fire time to 15-20 seconds based on the mod

One of the nicest features about @funkyjunky firmware is the user changeable cruise control lasting up to 15 minutes!! Cruise control also allows for increasing or decreasing temperatures during the "cruise".

Right but only as long as the attachment is designed to have the heating element at vaping temperature continuously for such a long period of time. Until Ryan confirms that it's okay for the Splinter and that it won't char the inside of the wood shell, I wouldn't recommend that feature.

We know it works in the Tubo because it's been tested and developed by FJ himself. Don't know for instance how it would end in the iHeat that has no internal glass sleeve. Could be fine, but also could be not.

Assumed my Joyetech Cuboid 150w didn't have temp control mode. Also, assumed if it did have temp control, it wouldn't make much of a difference in the performance of the Splinter... I was wrong on both accounts.

@RastaBuddhaTao wow Ryan. The Splinter is even easier to cruise with TC mode. Ideal for use through water. Huge hits, nothing is scorched. Just need to figure out how to turn off the 10sec timeout and i am in heaven.

I have barely experimented with TC and i am over the moon. The Splinter plus a 18mm male to male has become my new best friend for walk around the house vapor bong tokes.

Very impressed.

Cheers. A big bong toking cheers to all of you.

That is the mod box I have. Get the Tubo firmware and set the cruise timeout to whatever winds your clock. I did.

If excess heat is a concern a person could have a shorter cruise time. Also, available on the firmware by @funkyjunky is an eco function that preserves battery life by turning the heat down (User definable) when no inhalation.

Using cruise does not leave the heat building, no inhalation and much less heat. C'mon @funkyjunky help me out here.

I can cruise for 4 minutes straight on 390 or so and the outside of the wood just started to get warm. It's gotten significantly hotter under normal use without cruise using Wattage mode with my 14mm reducer as it holds a lot of heat in the reducer.

Just adding my experience so far! I'd never cruise for that long typically or ever at all with Wattage mode, but on lowish med temps on TC I can comfortably cruise for surprisingly long.

Edit: just did a 3 minute 380 cruise test without any inhaling. Just a sitting cruise. For science.
1 min - first start to feel warmth around the heater area of the wood.
2 min - can tell the wood is getting warm now
3 min - wood is undeniably warmer than the room temp but still not really hot. Sorta decent hand warming temp. Wood towards the top of the unit where the adhesive is remains room temp. Wood gives off a slight walnut smell like my Vapman as it warms up. Nothing burnt or out of place. Just warm wood smell.

Remains cooler than my Vapman when in use and similar to my Milaana / Zion after a sesh.

Keep in mind there was no stem to conduct Heat, and no airflow to lower heat of the heater or distribute it. Results will vary when in use.

Also keep in mind you can do what pak does and cruise for 25 seconds or so and just cruise 1 hit at a time. I set mine for 3 minutes and normally will cruise 10 seconds to warmup and take a hit or 2 then cruise off. If going through water I only cruise while hitting then turn off. After all it's super simple. 1 click ends cruise, 2 clicks starts it again.

Remember this isn't like the Milaana. If you're in TC and don't see the heater glow red in 7 seconds or so, it'll never reach that point. Even a cold Milaana will eventually glow red given enough time. In Wattage mode the Splinter can definitely climb til you see some glow. Haven't seen this in TC tho and I've looked many times after long idle cruises.

Just some random points for anyone to ponder over!

By the time I finished writing this edit the wood has cooled down completely to room temp.

:D am reading and what you write is true. not sure if the eco feature works like it is on the splinter, it is fine tuned for a tubo heater. i think wood can actually tollerate temps up to 230degC witout charring, maybe browning. so with TC in place temps up to 200-210 should be a go.

id be very cautious in wattage mode and cruise, i am not responsible for any splinter on (real) fire!

Thanks for straightening me out.

I don't really understand wattage mode. @AJS says that 29-30 watts is good for a splinter. The mods I looked at seem to offer about 70-75 watts ber battery. Why would these things go so much higher than necessary?

Some mods can go over 200W you know. The reason is: they are not designed for us in mind, but for real cloud chasers in the e-cig world. You know, the guys who do competitions to determine who can blow the biggest cloud etc. They also perform amazing "figures" with their vapor, way beyond the old-school smoke rings... I invite you to watch some youtube videos, it's... amazing in a weird way heh.

But to answer your question, mods have a max power output but in power mode you set a cap. It's not because your mod is 75W capable that you need to use 75W, you can set it to 20W if you want. Btw 75W is the limit for the highest discharge rate 18650's on the market at the moment, namely 30A CDR cells (LG HB6 and Sony VTC3)

You should not use such a high value in power mode with your average HG2/VTC6/30Q etc and it's also borderline with the 25R/HE4/VTC5. In TC mode it's less dramatic but still a bit stressful for the cell and you'll get "weak battery" messages earlier than you should and thus won't be able to use the full cell capacity. Even at 30W the voltage sag on these 18 to 20A cells is quite significant.

Note that in TC mode you also set a maximum value for the output power. But I rarely use anything above 35W myself.

These mods are mostly geared towards the E-Cigarette vaping community.

There are e-cig atomizers that need the extra wattage in order to drive all the coils.

In the case of the splinter you don't need the high wattages but you are after high quality Temperature Control and decent battery life. So you'll likely end up with a mod that can push more watts than the splinter needs.

*@KeroZen beat me to it.

FUCK CANCER TOO !
I think it has been asked before in this thread, or another, but I don't recall that I've ever read an answer to the question of: Splinter diameter?

How big is it?

Several members noted receiving an email with a line number that paid already on preorder. Has anyone else paid (June 2017 or earlier) and not gotten an email and a line number?

"In order to use temperature control feature, it requires use of nickel, titanium, or stainless steel coils and must be built with non-resistant wire."

The coils in the Splinter are SS, right?

I just wrote Wismec about their new Wismec Reuleaux DNA250 TC Box Mod, asking them if they could make the housing in another design as, to me, as a woman, it's as ugly as sin. I also asked them if they could make it a 2/3 version. Love the magnetic backend.

@hoyo77, there's close to 300 people on the waiting list. So it'll be fulfilled 1 Splinter at a time, so (not meaning to sound like a smart ass), it will take as long as it takes.

lololol...u are not an asshole at leasti dont think you are...you could be but i dont think so....i was just curious about the dates or timelines...i did not know there were 2 lists. I have a milaana to satisfy my jones till i get mah splinter

Preorder should go out no later than next week with possibly some of the wait list. Then wait for parts for the rest of the wait list. They shorted Ryan parts and he is dealing with that while he builds for the parts he has. Everything was prepped so it's just assembly so you should see those going quickly.
