Dnail Polar Shift

Received my Polar Shift two months ago.
It uses a Peltier chip.
The switch is warm-off-chill (labeled I-0-II).
It gets cool and warm. The claimed 55 and 120 seem about right.
I have never heard the fan turn on. The heatsink is large, it takes up most of the device's volume.
3x3 surface is stainless.
Four magnets stick to four bolts to hold down parchment.

The stainless work surface and magnets work well. The four magnets are very small and powerful, I replaced them with some I had that were easier to grasp.

How useful is it?
Not all concentrate consistencies require a 'shift', right?
Don't need it for wax, crumble, pull-n-snap, some shatters, etc..
But... when it's sticky, sappy, runny, messy, this device really works well. When you struggle to get that sappy goodness off the parchment, a little time on the Polar Shift and it peels right off.

I was using a refrigerator before and that always attracted condensation and warmed up too fast. No condensation is attracted with the Polar Shift and it stays warm/cool.
Also works well on softer shatters, making them into pull-and-snap and reducing flying bits.
Not so good for really oily or wet extracts, they firm up but still are 'wet' and won't peel cleanly from parchment.

I tried using the warm function to flow extract from a retail glass container into my silicone container. Did not work. I even tented it with foil to retain heat and left on for three hours. Not warm enough to transfer that sample.

My personal verdict:
Indispensable? No.
Handy, saves time and frustration, less waste? Yes
May cause nerd boners? Yes.
Would I purchase again? Yes.

I found the Polar Shift by accident. I was googling for parts to build a project idea I had.
The idea? A Peltier plate to chill/warm my concentrates. LOL

Semi-related item of possible interest:
I ordered this blue green ooze silicone ashtray to put on my dab tray.
But, it was huge and wouldn't fit on my planned tray.
Wait! This thing is huge.... it IS the tray.
It has holes for plenty of tools. It's so big all my sticky stuff goes on the rounded end toward me and Qtips and four silicone containers go in the squared off end away from me. The whole thing is silicone, holds all the essentials for a dab session. This thing and your favorite silicone mat and you've got a compact and neat dab station.

Just so Dab HAppy!
I've heard of people chilling their extracts so it simulates more of an uptemp when the dab hits the nail.
I guess I could be considered one of these people if its Winter. Sometimes I leave my concentrates out in the garage where I vape and it basically freezes to a shatter. I typically have to preheat my dnail fork just to pull a dab without flicking it across the room. I never really though of it as uptemp dabbing tho.

I could use the uptemp feature atm. I have some shatter that's a mix of two strains, and it's the most brittle shatter I have personally tried. I have heated up the bits to re-combine them, but it cools to the same kind of consistency. If I hold it one between two fingers I can warm a bit, just enough to get it onto the fork dabber. I'm thinking it's the moisture content, perhaps from over-extraction but wtf do I know.

I keep all mine in the fridge where the butter would go usually and when ready take out unless it is like crumble.
Me too.

Shatter turns into budder like consistency after a few weeks though, so i found.
Still works just as well though.

I have had stable Colorado shatter in the fridge for over a year without any impact to its consistency. ???

Some shatters I've had have lasted 1yr+@room temp, Ive had others turn sugar in a week regardless of temp, I think its more the material then the temps

Im super bummed, sapphire Halo literally just cracked in half. Less then 300 dabs, never above 530, finger tight nut on a coil that expands outward as it heats instead of upwards, hit the 20 degrees glob mode on the Hex set at 505 and that was that.

I don't believe keeping concentrates cool has anything to do with 'uptemping' .

It does not affect your dab like uptemping does, it might for a fraction of a second take slightly longer to melt, but it really is not the same.

I feel your pain, mine cracked out of nowhere as well after only about 6 months. I always ran low temps and dry swabbed, same situation with the nut just finger tight. I did run mine for a bit with the washer below the dish versus the flat coil.

Is it physically broken in half or just cracked from one side to the other?

Not as tasty as a sapphire, the SiC halo seems to me to be a more formidable pairing with the enail and tastes pretty damn good for $80. I still run my sapphire in the flowerpot since it's just cracked, more of an eyesore and indication of future failure but luckily at this time I still use it.

As if a samurai sliced it from center hole out, 1 perfect, straight crack all the way through, oil seeps out of the side and bottom and goes all over the coil now. Sic is really the apex material right now IMO, sapphire does indeed taste noticeably better, but not for 3x the cost and having to deal with something much much more fragile then quartz.

Im prolly gonna get another 1 though....

Easy, brother. In no way was that a confrontation. Just a comment as to MY experience.

Have a great day.

received my polar shift today and my feelings pretty much mirror yours.

The build quality is much better than I was expecting, not that a peltier has to be a complicated device but this one is well thought out and solidly built.

The fan only comes on in cool mode, when the bottom is hot and even its pretty quiet although far from silent when its spinning.

It heats and cools quickly as expected with peltiers.

These were all the rage in the enthusiast PC community way back in the day and Im stoked to see them in the dab world

Edit: The included usb power supply, at least mine, is super bootsy, its extremely lightweight compared to similar chargers...which right away is 99% assurance its garbage, initially i used an existing charger i had and it worked great, then i tried the charger that came with it and it worked but much less then before so I tossed my usb voltmeter on it and it kept crashing it....which is something I've never seen before and when I plugged the polar shift unit in and turned it on, the meter just shut off and the charger led just dims. Attached to a proper charger it pulls just under 1.4a, D-nail says their charger is 1a but I doubt that highly if mine was a typical example.

Solid thermal unit but dangerously cheap charger

Really liking the new stand I got for my bubblers. Doesn't fit my D020-D, but it fits my D020 perfectly. I like knowing the really super flippin hot thing is secure AF.

Just so Dab HAppy!
After reading a couple reviews on the Polar Shift here I realized mine might not have been working just because of the charging adapter. Its a piece of shit as others have mentioned. I replaced it with another one laying around the house and my Polar Shift works just as others have described. It has already gotten some use last night working with some sticky rosin that I squished a couple of weeks ago.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I picked a Polar Shift up as well.
Build quality is solid; nice strong magnets.
They even included some swag buttons.
Bigger wouldn't be bad, but 3x3 is fine for a gram of concentrate.

I've never heard the fan going, but I haven't changed to a different power adaptor.
The heat mode works quite well.

I've been on butter/wax exclusively and haven't used shatter for probably over a year.
The Polar Shift makes shatter nice and easy to manipulate.
Turns exploding shatter into gooey pull and "snap".

Would recommend (for shatter)

It is still too soon to tell. I got it during the Black Friday sale so it was really cheap, like $35 after shipping I think. For that price its easy to say it will not be a wasted $35. I really don't know how much I will use it in the winter since I am collecting in lower (cold) temps. I can imagine it being more useful in the summer. If it keeps the ice packs in the freezer this summer than I surely will be impressed. The 3x3 landscape is workable but I already notice I start to work my way over the edge easily and wish they were even 4x4. I did not get magnets with mine but I don't think I would use them too often as I collect too fast to keep removing and replacing the magnets every time I need to move the slick sheet. It definetly helped last night. I was collecting rosin from a 3rd press that would have required an ice pack even in 40F temps or would have just gone in the trash. The polar shift on the cold setting made it just cold enough to pull and snap from the parchment paper I had used.

i get a great price for shatter like you are describing. its a mix of strains and is pretty damn hard. tough to warm between the fingers even. it does warm, but takes a min. ive heated it, when separating it into smaller amounts, and it goes right back to being like glass. ive never messed with attempting to change the consistency of oil.

for those of you who have these plates... are you saying the change to your concentrates is permanent? like after you remove it from the plate and it gets back to room temp? or is it just to make it easier to work when the plate is being used?

Nothing I've seen with mine was permanent, it definitely last long enough to work with whatever material you could fit on the plate, but once it goes back to ambient your material will return to whatever it was before.

ok thats what i thought. i know some do things to their oils to change its consistency permanently. and that could be heating or cooling it. wasnt sure if this was a tool for something like that. so its just for making it easy to work with at the time. got it.

nevermind me here! lol
