Just ordered a 10 ton press (HBM) for €199 and the same plates you have for $214. I will probably incur some extra costs for the import duties and VAT. Looking forward to be able to squish my harvest.

Think it's time to jump on board the rosin train! Any suggestions for a press under $1000? Or is there another thread for that?
Search for @timewizard greyfox on Facebook and Instagram. Its a little more than you want to spend but its the best kit IMHO.

The Nugsmasher also has some decent comments from users in this thread, but the Mini version seems to get a little less praise and I think one member @Dangus maybe it was returned his for the bigger version. I believe the OG goes for $800.

I bought caged 3x5 plates with heaters and PID contoller from low temp plates and a Harbor Freight press and it works great as well. This setup was $479 for the caged plates and $140 for the press.

The slug and vice is a really cheap option also.

There is also a thread for Rosin presses under $750 somewhere around here if you are interested.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Yup, I returned the mini for larger 'standard' / 'lil smasher'...think they might have changed the name? Either way, I'm still digging the press and can press 5-7 grams at a time without issue. Great device and a great way to process a small harvest in a quick time period.

I'm pretty happy with my set up. It's a harbor freight 20 ton press, and caged plates from low temp plates. Only thing I'd do different is to get the 4x7 plates. I bought 3x5 caged plates. Nothing else to buy everything bolts right up. I have less than $800 in it, and i press about 5-6 ounces four times per year (harvests)

Hello everybody

Sorry to bother you, I would like to know if the « rosin technique » (hair iron and parchment paper) can be applied to cheap €uropean haschich ? Is worth the hassle ?

you're here in canada? canadian tire has em on clearance atm. 10 ton hydraulic (with a pressure gauge) is on for 150ish

i bought mine at princess auto, but it's the same thing really :) buy a 10 or 12 ton version or if you feel like buying overkill - a 20ton.

get one that has a pressure gauge. it will help you in the end.

as for plate systems if i were you, i'd buy a set of caged plates.

100% agree with this ... the press from Canadian Tire @ $150 CAD is an absolute steal (with pressure gauge!)

I'm using my cheap home made dual PID controller and home made plates and I'm supper happy with them! Not as nice as caged I'm sure, but I don't think I'd notice much of a difference if any for my purposes so far :) ... might eventually build/buy a cage to mount them in ... maybe not though as so far I'm super happy with what I've got and my 20-27% yields! (1 strain is pretty much always around 25% that I do and the other 2 are around 20% ... sometimes squeeze an extra couple % out of each)

@biohacker ... with the Cdn Tire press, and a really nice set of plates, I'm sure you'd still be under that $750 mark; and unless you are going to be pressing large amounts, 10tons is way more than enough. I never really go over 1 ton, and even that seems to be a little on the high side, and that's for pressing up to 4g at a time so far. I can't imagine it would require that much to even do a 1/2 oz at a time ... not sure as you start getting up into the oz's though ....

Hey thanks for your replies fellas! I was looking at the press from scrappy tire for $199 on sale but think i'll spend a bit more and get something a bit higher quality... just read some reviews of leaks/problems and my budget is probably twice that for the press itself. Maybe that's why it has been discontinued? I'm not a big canadian tire fan (love their 70% off MSRP sales ) so i'll check out princess auto.

I was 100% going with the caged plates after researching and decided on timewizardgreyfox caged plates but he's MIA so now i'm reconsidering and may just go uncaged with Cannaplates.ca. It's hard to know who to believe about what, so i'm just going to educate myself as much as possible before investing. I SO wish I could just RENT a press from a dispensary or something so I can press my stash and move on since I can buy rosin cheaper than I can buy flower and squish it (with time, press, etc).

Those are great yields but when I start pressing i'm going for quality over yields, even if I end up with sub 20% yields. I guess it's a fine line with temps, pressure, time etc.

I'm expecting some REALLY crappy yields with all my outdoor and greenhouse strains! lol But when concentrated into rosin i'm sure they will taste heavenly.

As i had this thought myself a few times before - who would use such a service and what would you be happy to spend for lets say a weekend with a nice press?
Could also be a direction for countries where concentrates are not easy to come by...

I would definitely suggest caged plates if going with a hydraulic shop press type of jack.

Rosin carries a premium here over hydrocarbon extracts, but it seems to have really fallen out of the loop with the latest trend in dabbing "sauce"

It's exactly the same north of your border. Damn, I remember when hydrocarbon extracts were all the rage not long ago charging absurd amounts when rosin was completely unheard of. Where will we at in 5 years?

Thanks Mod for fixing this post. I tried every way to get my images into this post from Igmur but failed!

The plates are DHGate https://www.dhgate.com/product/new-aluminium-3x5-inch-rosin-press-machine/401096652.html. $214 complete. No customs this time so a great price I think. Shipping was free too. Sourced the press locally for Euro 200.
In order to get a temperature of 200F on the surface of the plates (measured using a thermocouple type thermometer connected to my multimeter) I need to set the PIDs to 240F. Temp is very stable and the plates don't seem to have any hot/cold spots. Now I can press my harvest while it is still relatively fresh.
