Discontinued Ghost MV1

I must’ve replaced those battery packs 100s of times since September and I’ve yet to pinch a single digit...

Yeah.....really. Maybe if its an issue then one would also need to stay away from all enails, torch nails, butane powered vapes, log vapes with their very hot stems...and the list goes on.

It helps my backswing

After a month with the latest firmware, I've pushed out an updated MV1 review.

In the end, the vapor is great but the rest of the MV1 experience keeps this vape on the shelf for me.

I do admit the new accessories still look tempting!!

I've put through about 90 battery charges and 450 crucibles. That's about 90 days of 5 per day.

I would most certainly stop using the mv-1 if I had to attack it with tweezers including using them to stir. Try popping the crucible out, holding it lengthwise, dumping it in your hands and putting it back in. It also helps to make sure there are no little bits falling in the heater which tastes awful. Haven't burned myself once!

I'm not a big fan of the squeal either. That's one of the reasons I will sometimes pull the glass stem out to full and have the gurgling drown it out.

The vapor is awesome, you got that right!

Absolutely!

I guess my question to you is, do you feel that Bud misrepresented the MV1?

The only thing I haven't been able to match Bud is the hundred draws on one battery. I believe it's possible if you do them back to back to back instead of one at a time. The big battery drain is that initial preheating. Once it's warm you can breeze through a bunch of crucibles. I did get through 68 draws on a single charge, once.

The MV1 made give away an ArGo and a FF2.

Wow, what a total let down!!! I received my MV1 a few days ago. Had a couple of sessions. Is this a joke???!!! I hope I have a faulty unit. I've used vapes since the original volcano was released. I've never been this letdown and disappointed. The hype for this vape was huge and it's been a massive let down.

Almost zero vapor on first pull but tons of flavor. That's always expected. Got 2 more solid draws and then nothing. Am I missing something? 2 draws per crucible and then nada?

Yea sorry everybody, I obviously didn't expect there to be so many malfunctioning units out there, I'm very bummed about it. I tested about a dozen different units before launch that worked correctly, so I didn't see it coming.

And please with the personal digs, you know I wouldn't endorse a vape that behaves like this normally.

If you're not having an amazing experience with it something is wrong with your unit, plain and simple. When it works right there's nothing to complain about in the performance department.

The reason the overheating can be fixed is that in units that are running hot the heating element doesn't seem to be using the right algorithm, to me it seems like it's heating with the concentrate algorithm which is higher bursts of heat for longer periods of time, not meant for vaping herb.

When it's functioning properly you should get 95%+ even AVB on every setting except maybe 5, the highest heat level for herb, it can be like 75% even there sometimes. All of these pictures you guys posted of charred herb are burning my soul.

I don't know the exact reasons for the malfunctions otherwise I would have shared it with you already, all I know is that they're actively working on fixes for these issues and they started testing of the app with end users.

I have a handful of malfunctioning units in my possession and once I'm able to fix them all and get them back to default working order I will share that info with you.

If you have a unit that's not working right and you don't want to wait for a fix please send me a PM and I'll buy your unit from you as long as you didn't destroy it.

Sorry again guys, wish it never happened, doing my best to make it right.

:leaf:

I purchased the Ghost MV1 because I've been watching your vape reviews since you started out. I trusted you. I never thought you'd put your reputation on the line the way you did. So far, the MV1 has been the biggest disappointment I've ever had with any vape. I hope I have a faulty unit. Wow.

Did you come here to rant, or do you really want to work this thing out?

If it's the latter, then I think you need to supply some more information. What temps were you using? Is the flower dry or moist? How's the pack? I see so many people talking about a light tamp. I prefer tapping ever so lightly on The Crucible side to get it to "settle".

Many convection Vapes have notoriously needed stirring / mixing up to efficiently extract all the goodies. You can also try temp step vaping. Start that baby out on Amber 2 for a couple of draws then up to Amber 3 for a couple of draws and then red level 1 or so for the final.

While most people have reported seven to eight draws per Crucible I routinely get four to five. I'm not sure what you're expecting but we're only a couple draws away. How many draws were you anticipating from .08g?

I don't know Bud at all. So I'll refrain on commenting about him.

That's what makes forums great, everyone can share their opinions.

Just like there are many, many of us with great, working MV1s that think it's awesome! Heck, It made me give away a firefly2 and Argo.

The stoner in me just wants to invite everyone that has had a bad experience with this device over to my house. Mine works really well :)

You are having a bad start with it.....that is all.

If what you are describing is true, then you have an air leak somewhere, most likely the heat sink cap or the heat sink is not all the way pushed down. It should come almost even with the top of the vape body....maybe less than 1mm taller.

You should get tons of quality vapor that slowly tapers off...pending on quality of flower/load.
I'm just providing an update.
This thread has enough back and forth anecdotes. We can all have different opinions.

I agree with most all of your re-review....but a few things.

1. shades of colors are colors....haaaa

2. the heating squeal didn't bother me really, i knew that it was heating and most times I have other noises going on about me.

3. one should realize that you put it on the shelf permanently because you have tons of choices otherwise, other do not have but 1 or few choices....so everyone should keep that in mind.

And yes, I have pinched the crap out of my finger/hand a couple times....when I first got it...then instantly new that was a deal I need to say away from. So I always held my hand a certain way when putting the battery back fully on. The problem where this can happen very easily is when you do not fully remove the battery and just let it disengage from being fully on to in effect, turn it off fully. So when you go to push it back together....it only needs to move like 1/4 or so to be locked on. That is when the danger really rears its pinchy head.

That said I did return my MV1 recently after being able to test with the iOS app. Some things got better and made the vape work more consistent. But there were several things that made me choose to return it. This was not an easy decision at all. Because the vape produced instant on awesome vapor....but had some other issues that I could not let go.

Biggest reason for me personally, the SILICONE! I do not know if the type used is fully cured or what...I am not expert on silicone. But I am pretty sensitive to smell and taste....so this was a huge issue for me. Since the app did not do much to change this with heating properties, I was bummed and this was the biggest reason to return for me.

Other things like the painstaking cleaning and working the vape were not too much of a pia for me to return...just the cost of getting the vape from this guy. Though other things like short battery life.....and other software issues were a turn off. Also I found that my door latch was so loose that it would barely stay shut. Any slight pressure on the door latch button would open it. Funny that when we all first got the vape the door latch was so damn tight it was hard to even open.

All and all with the silicone taste issue and the fact that I did not feel I was getting enough for the cost....which means I also felt that the vapes life span and upkeep did not justify the purchase for me. Not that the MV1 does not produce excellent vapor especially if you need heavy medication.....but came at too much of a cost and its longevity did not add up for my needs.

So now I keep using my vapcap and air......but have a NV flowerpot to see if that fills my void the MV1 left. I did have to make several trade offs going with the flowerpot....but so far I feel more confident with my decision after a week.

painstaking cleaning

I have found I can put the entire heatsink in a shot glass with 91% ISO. Just use a tiny amount to keep the holes and bottom of the ceramic piece, submerged. You definitely don't want to use enough to flood the top and that black gasket. Will stretch the time between deep cleans.

I have 20+ crucible lids. Just toss in the same shot glass, clean when needed all at once. Use a toothbrush near a running sink. Takes me like 2 minutes.

What is “painstaking” cleaning anyway..? Like how many crucibles between scrubbing the sink, sleeve, silicone and mp? I use a clean lid (I have like 20) with each fresh crucible but I usually only use one, sometimes 2 crucibles. They don’t need to be cleaned very often... I’d say I get more than 15-20 crucibles before the holes on the bottom of the sink start getting clogged.

Sorry, but what is it you refer to by: "clicky" and "click click click...." ? Same meaning for both?

Great cleaning process you have for sure. I didn't have 20 lids...but the heatsink cleaning did not bother me much...I could let that go to 1 -2 times per week and is easy. But the constant poking out of the crucible lid holes was not fun....at all. It was bad enough having to stir the load 1-3 times pending on load type, but also having to poke out the holes after a couple draws or so was not getting it for me. Ghost will no doubt change this up at some point....one of the biggest changes they need to make is in that area plus the darn silicone.

having to poke out the holes after a couple draws or

You are spot on about the holes AND about ghost fixing them! Successive firmware updates continue to keep holes cleaner. New crucible lids with slightly larger holes are out now and work well.

I never poked any holes. I saw a suggestion about using a toothbrush (some cut down a Flux brush) to clean. Use 91% ISO soak, wiggle the toothbrush with pressure, wallah, all holes clean at once!

It can be rather clicky if you want to temp step or bounce around a lot w/o the app.... def not the best vape to be doing this out walking with the family, imo... but you can also just hang on one higher setting and crank thru crucibles pretty easily getting big clouds w/o all that much clicking.

I don’t have a Crafty, nor have I tried one, but I bet you made a better choice given your application... The mv1, for me, is really more of an indoor/car cordless.

Once a week, I throw the crucible, lid, heat sink and mouthpiece in iso for 20 minutes in a Ziploc snack bag. I also add my FW3 and FW4 capsules and mouthpiece, my GH mouthpieces and the removable Prima parts. Fast and simple process.

I’ve gotten the hang of the clicking and its second nature now. I do 3-4 draws at each amber setting and have a nicely cashed load. Sometimes, I get 5-6 draws out of A3.

The MV1 has completely sidelined my Crafty. The Crafty has worse flavor, less vapor and takes WAAAY longer for a session.

Do you drop your ISO bag in a cup of hot water ?

I agree, it’s not bad once you get used to it... but out WWV (walking whilst vaping), not stopping or sitting or anything, just straight walking with the family, which device would you say is easier to operate...?

Otherwise, glad hear your opinions on the Crafty... All this stuff is so high-ly subjective I would never be “definite” about any of it without experiencing both firsthand, so, thanks!

I’m also not a big fan of solid plastic vapes. Or most solid plastic anythings for that matter...

I actually ranted about the silicone a bit, but it didn't make the final edit (snark filter)

True. Crafty would be a bit easier to manage while walking but I think I could manage the MV1 without too much trouble. If I were walking, I’d go Firewood. Easier controls and no lights.

Got my new mv1 finally today. I can't get more than one draw a crucible what am I doing wrong? Also when I got the vape I took apart the heat sink and put it back together, it was almost impossible to take it off and I can get it to seal like it was sealed originally. Idk what I'm doing wrong
