Ed's WoodScents Log Vape - Ed's TnT

Have been using my WS for about a month now. Here are a few of my thoughts:

  • I like using through water best... but I feel that way with all vapes.
  • The glass stem is my favorite for dry. I like to hold the stem firm against the o-ring to form a seal then sort of feather or rock the stem on and off the o-ring, allowing air to come into the stem. I place the basket screen as close to the heating element as possible and use a small amount of material (only enough to fill the basket).
  • I vape at full heat, always. I wish heat went higher.
  • Through water, I prefer the titanium tip. Best when I pre-heat the stem on the heater, then load the material, then apply the heat for 20ish seconds before drawing. Long, slow draws. Takes two 20ish second draws to darken material. 3 for full extraction - but less pleasant flavor.
  • Sometimes the cord slides partially out of it's receptacle on the WS. Think it is due to how the cord sits when I set it back down on the table? User error I'm sure.

My favorite accessory that came with the WS is the short, black handled, diamond shaped metal poker. I stir with it and use the end of the handle to tamp. My favorite accessory that did not come with the WS is the "debowler" ashtray with the poker in the middle. Makes unloading the stems a clean breeze.

I still use the aromatherapy cup with beeswax + lemongrass oil.

It's beautiful. I enjoy the process/ritual that comes along with it's use. It is truly an artisan device.

God Ed makes beautiful work. Of all the log vapes this is the one I waaaaaaaaaaaaaant the most. Looking at that ruby red bad boy on the website makes my heart miss a beat. The VAS burns and I don't know where to burn my money. This, flower pot, square preorder. Gaaah.:freak:

Hello and happy new years eve to you all. I am in Oklahoma at the moment came up over here Thursday after the wife and family went to another Dr. visit. We had a sonogram done, was hoping for a girl but turns out we are having a boy, no sweat one thing we both know is raising boys and I a bit more than her lol. We are liking Lane now for a boy, I like Lane Ray but all that is still up for talks. Would have some cool pics from the road if my stupid laptop hadnt crashed on me, after a couple hours on the phone the other nght I either have bad memory or bad mother board or maybe both. I spent almost $500 when I bought it to have 4 year pro support where if anything went wrong a guy comes out to repair it so I am waiting for a guy middle of next week. I went out the net day and grabbed one of these dainty little tablets with a keyboard. I guess I am a dinasaur, I am not happy with this thing but it gets me by. My wife says remember when Chris Farley did the fat man in a little coat, she says you look like a giant with a tiny laptop lol. I am so lost yall, I am unable to access anything, cant do shipping gotta delay orders at least a week, cant remember most if not all my passwords, sure as hech glad I already paid bills. Its kinda like putting your friends phone # in your cell, once its in there do you ever know what it is? So back to the road trip, we are driving through a different way through the delta and uhhh say what seems we are in Transylvania, hmmm am looking up and there is a huge black bat painted on the water tower and this little one horse town has a burger joint country store selling shirts with all that on em. Figure if I had to go through Transylvania it would have to be in Louisiana for sure. So we are headed north through these delta towns in route to Oklahoma stop in this 50's dinners joint got a double hotdog split in the center with bacon and cheese sandwhich rrrrrr on in America and oh so good. Made it here and have been chilling since. Gotta tell you its awful freaking cold up here, they were saying a few days ago it might be snowmaggedon one last time in 2017 so hoping thats not the case and we can make the drive home tomorrow. Got another shot of great news last week. We had been eyeing a place that is big enough for all us, there was another person that had give em an offer but sucks for them and great for us it fell through, we went to look atit loving it we didnt screw around gave a solid offer and the buyer accpeted. We are hoping to have all the paper work done soon maybe by end of next month but you all know as most home closings that aint the case and it takes for freaking ever. I cant tell yall what a relief it is to know that we finally found a house and that we will all be together very very soon. My my 2018 is looking to be an awesome year.

I have a few Buckeye Burl WS done and am all out of it. Have been looking for more of it for several months with no luck. Yeah I have seen some small blocks but no way in hell am I going to pay what they want for em, they arent gold. I am looking for slabs, not table tops, but large cookies. Have seem some beautiful table top slabs starting at $1500, uhhh then you gotta ship em nah. I have had my guy looking for a while, called him the other day and he has a shipment he spent $10K on be here end on January I get first look at em too woot woot! Oh I cant wait!!!

@IAmKrazy2 ohh I wish I had some shine, this be a perfect time for it for me rrrrr sure would like some apple pie, uhh maybe we should talk bout it. I am glad to hear you are still enjoying that piece, you have had it almost a year thats really good to hear and hpe you do enjoy it for a while to come. Hit me up anytime my man.

@WakeAndVape My man ya done me a real solid there bro, thanks much and great job on the review. I enjoyed watching it and feel you covered the bases well, thanks so much!

@CarouselOnFire I am glad you are liking your unit, sounds like you have covered the bases well also. You do have a solid proceedure for doing things, not sure how much higher in temp you would like it to go, pls tell me more. Keep doing what you do and thanks for the kind words.

@Slagzord Wow tough decisions there for sure bro, I appreciate the kind words really, thank you! Hmmm I am not trying to twist your arm but am bias and feel you should get a WS certainly the Red Padauk ohhhhh what a beautiful piece and feel in the hand is just as nice. Hit me up if I can help you choose, thanks for the post.

Alright yall enough of this teeny tiny tablet thing I am struggling on, gosh I feel like a giant hunched over it with hands larger than the display pecking away ohhh so not cool. I wish you all many many blessings in the new year, take care and be safe out there!

I'm super excited. Got off the phone with Ed yesterday and have a stellar, brilliant buckeye on the way. My heart is pounding! Last spending decision of 2017!

So, after watching at vapezone420 @WakeAndVape 's amazing video I decided on two things. 1. The buckeye burl Woodscents I must have. 2. I need a vape spitoon!

Well, I love @Ratchett's wicked looking thing, but can't justify 30 US + shipping atm. I wanted one so started looking about. I found a broken 18-14 gong adapter and an old bowl I'll never use, plus some old brass screens.

Welp, I plopped it together with some Teflon tape and duct tape I had sitting around. I call it the Jankmesiter Spitoon. I even made a small ring and installed it so the Vapcap will fit over it.

So I’ve had my WoodScents for about 2 months now and still loving it as much as when I got it. Rarely use the glass stems (although they do provide great flavor, I just don’t get as heavy hits as I do through the tips)

Question for you guys: are there any titanium tips that don’t fit on the WoodScents? Last month, I ordered a Woody and a spare tip (so I would have 3 stems without needing to swap any tips)... but only the one that Ed gave me fits right. The other 2 barely make a seal with the heater, can’t fit fully on it unless wedges on it, and when I go to remove the stem it’s usually stuck and dislodges from the stems. I can pick up the log with the stem when attached.

The one Ed gave me fits perfectly, and allows enough room to rotate the log etc.

I’ve tried sanding one of them with a small rod and sandpaper, but don’t think I have the proper tools to do it correctly (and after an hour of sanding and 2 sheets of sandpaper I gave up)

Anyone have any clue as to why they don’t fit? Contacting DV and waiting to hear back, but just curious if anyone else has ran into this.

@thatoneguy445 in my experience the 7-fin tips fit best and the newer 5-fin ones fit more or less like you described

That was an initial thought of mine but the one Ed sent is also a 5 fin (visually identical to the 2 received from DV this past month).

That would be really weird if they knowingly changed the tip design to be less effective with the WS, especially after George’s dynavap live video the other day showing using the Ti Tips with the WoodScents (and whatever tip he had fit perfectly of course).

I just feel a little bait and switched having bought the Woody and extra tip specifically for use with my WoodScents, and (if I’m stuck with these) going to end up just using Ed’s tip on all 3 stems, because the experience is really way worse with the tips that do not fit.

I think you are just experiencing a batch of tips that were on the tighter side of tolerances than others. I do not believe a bait and switch situation took place.

I experienced this with my wife's Amboyna Burl unit's Ti tip. This was actually the tip Ed sent as well. It wasn't as tight as yours but it was tight.

Now, as far as what I did...sounds like this may not be feasible for you although I took a Dremel with a small cylinder shaped sanding disc and used to go around the inside of the tip sanding off the inner layer very slowly until it slid on without issue. Didn't take much at all but if you don't have a dremel....may not be so easy. Regardless, after I got done, gave it a couple of ISO baths and blowing out with the air compressor.

Fair enough. Yeah I don’t mean bait and switch as in they were purposefully trying to screw me (I love both companies, products, their stories etc so I’m confident that wasn’t their plan), just felt misled... Bad choice of words though!

Anyways yeah good to hear the dremmel solution worked. I tried the sandpaper route and started looking up dremmels on amazon, but then felt it was dumb to spend $40 on a dremmel to fix a $40 tip that “should” have been the right size from the get go.

Definitely interesting that not all Ti Tips fit natively. May just be the variance in each tip? Who knows, would be interesting to get clarity on that for future tip buying!

Turns out I have a 5-fin tip that fits the WS heater OK - got it during black Friday sale and hadn't actually tested it because I assumed it wouldn't work. I agree with @Square4Life that it's a tolerance issue.

Heard back from DV, and they are just as confused as I am. I sent them a video (could post here too, if anyone is interested) of the weird fit and twirling the stem/tip with the heater staying attached.

They’re going to send me a replacement and I’m gonna send this one back to them for examination.

At least that confirms (to me, at least) there’s not a different “version” of tips that work and some don’t... I agree with you guys that maybe I just got 2 tips from a weird batch.

Props to both Ed and Dynavap for being super responsive and willing to help even with a minor issue like this.

I swear, the combination of the WoodScents with various stems/vapcap is pure vaping nirvana. I have no desire to even look at any new vapes coming out because this meets literally every use case I need it for.

If anyone is reading this on the fence... just do it. Completlely cured me of VAS, although now I can’t stop looking at all of the custom stems available!!

Isn't it wonderful? LEGO for stoners is fun!

I have a lot of Vapcaps from many different runs and generations. Lots of extra parts of every description and well over a dozen tips. I don't have any issues with fit. Now, I haven't swapped every tip with every other thing, but I do switch things up a bit on cleaning day and so far so good.

Same as @Squiby here.....I have over a dozen tips from three generations, three generations of NonaVong and two generations of Omni’s. Plus currently 5 M’s (they rotate out all the time for demo). Never had a problem with any of my lego moves. And I’ve never had any of my Ti tips not play well with my three WS’s. Adult legos indeed.......

Hi Ed, congratulations on another boy. Also Happy New Year.

Still loving my Thuya Burl WS. A very beautiful and powerful log vape and a great addition to my log family. I love a log vape, easy to use, a good medicating tool and beautiful to look at. I love the feel of the wood in my hands. This unit is very well made and is always ready for action. It heats up so fast, not much wait time - maybe 5 min is all.

@WakeAndVape spare me! I want mine so bad, waiting is the hardest part! Loved your video by the way!
 Thanks...waiting is infact the hardest part...also waiting to use it because it's not portable!

Still loving my Thuya Burl WS.

Vey nice choice...those were beautiful...but then again I want every species of WS I see

The only DV tips that don't work with the WS are the SS M tips...

I did have dreams of using the SBM with it...but those dreams are dead, would dremel it...but i dont want to distort the heating properties of the SS.

why does the woodscents gave to be so damn good!?!?

Definitely depends on your tip! My M fits perfectly over the WoodScents with the default stainless steel tip. Which is why it was so weird having two titanium tips that did not fit!

Dumb question - how much do you think dremmeling would impact the tips heating properties? I dremmeled the heck out of one of those Ti Tips, and eventually got it to fit pretty decently (it will go over the WS now, but won’t spin smoothly etc.). However it seems to still work with a cap on as a standard VC, haven’t noticed any detriments from the dremmeling

I do not notice any changes from dremmeling two of mine. Of course, no changes when using with the WS but also no changes that I can tell when using with a cap.

Edit: you aren't removing very much at all so I can't imagine it making a difference...I haven't put a caliper to it but since the caps fit, I'd assume the OD to be the same as a tip that does slide over the WS heater smoothly. That being said, if I am right, removing some from the internal side would actually make it more like the ones that already fit a WS smoothly. Just my .02
