Discontinued The Grasshopper

Old & In the Way
So I'm sitting and pondering this long burst of subzero temps we're experiencing and wondering how it all came on so suddenly and then I get a shipping confirmation for my leather sleeve from the lab!

Oh, I get it; hell has frozen over! I'll be glad to finally have it although truth be told, I haven't used a hopper in weeks. My Firewood has been my daily/nightly driver and I'm loving it. It's a good feeling to know my backups are the tremendous hoppers.

Just read backwards a little and saw the posts about the production hiatus at the lab. Interesting...
Hi, 'dog,
Is your sleeve one you ordered a long time ago, did you recently order, or (like me) is it one that was supposed to come with a Ti from pre-order days? If the latter, do you remember your pre-order date? I'm trying to ascertain if I've been skipped over, since I just got the announcement that they are available for purchase on HL website. Thanks.

I also haven't received any word on my leather sleeve and I did just receive an email saying they were now available.. although I pre-ordered July 24th before they were removed from the box, I ended up with 3 hoppers on that order, so I guess each owner is owed one..

From HLs FAQ:
Is the Leather Sleeve included with the Titanium and Color Grasshoppers?
The Leather Sleeve is not included with any Grasshoppers. It was previously included with backer and pre-ordered units before 8/24/15. Any units ordered after this time do not include the Leather Sleeve. This change was made due to the popularity of the metal cases.
I bought the metal case when I pre-ordered, but cashed it in when I figured it'd be a long wait for it.
I really like HLs newer case design, and the battery charger looks really neat. I just don't feel a need for them after handling the product. I'm more tempted by the BC, the USB-C set up would be nice and that magnetic lid would be cool to use. Looking forward to seeing some reviews.

Hi Viking,

I ordered the sleeve when I put in my pre-order on 1/17/16. They had stopped including it by that time.

I also saw the availability announcement email before I got my shipping confirmation.

I live in WA state not too far from CO. Back in May I had sent my GH in for warranty. They had the unit in house for two weeks. Mine looks like it has a whole new inside. It looked different where the battery sits. I suspect a brand new unit was given back to me because I had a tiny scratch on my other unit by the clip that wasn’t there when I got it back. They had my unit a total of three weeks that would be including shipping. Not that much different than a month.

I hope I have the newer improved unit? I will eventually find out.

Moon how the hellarya?!

My FW4 isn't quite my daily driver, but it has consistently been my nightly one.
It remains a bit of a mystery to me as to whether there's a better draw method to use with the FW than I am executing, but all I know is that "it works", though it seems it's hard to even school a first-time user on how to kick that thing into gear once it's been turned on.

Did that make sense? Because it's 12 degrees out and I'm warmly inside under a fog of goodness.
And it reminds me, in this moment, to be thankful. I HAVE HEAT! GRATEFUL!

Sooo this happened last night and it was pretty ridiculous. My friend tried it too and basically exploded. Not even fair how strong this combo is.

I mentioned a couple of pages ago both my hoppers are dead again and I bought a Milaana. Milaana arrived and what can I say. “Take your time guys, no rush.” :)
yeah, when my Sublimator stopped working, it was a much sadder time than being without a couple of hoppers. I still miss that hopper convenience, the flavour and the simple form factor. But the Milaana really does compete the best of any other product.

Oh, you know, Joe - I got those low-down, snow-bound, frozen-ground, ice-mound, sad-hound, bombogenesis blues.

Otherwise, it's SSDD.

How 'bout yerself?

Yeah, drawing on the FW is definitely a "feel" thing but I have actually found it easier to explain to others than the hopper. "Just draw even more slowly than you think you should" seems to be easier to understand than "click it on - no, you need to really push on the clicker - then wait for the lights, then start drawing and count to 7, then push the clicker again while still drawing - no you really need to push hard on the clicker - and keep drawing a bit more."

Yeah, I'd pretty much forgotten about it. I sure hope it was worth the wait.

Haven't taken a peek inside this thread in quite a while. Wow... Same old runaround with Hopper Labs it looks like. That company is a disaster. I am truly surprised they're still in business!

And to those who are on their 5th, 6th, 7th, or whatever return with these guys, let it go and move on to another vape. The blind faith by the "Hopperheads" is solely what keeps that joke of a company around.

Stop it please, lol!

It’s not that expensive sending our units from the U.S for postage back to Hopper Labs. I feel sorry for the folks living outside America who have to pay huuuuge amounts for shipping. They need their shipping covered or they need a reimbursement IMO. We have some very tenacious and serious vape owners. You have more patience than I have.

Not much has changed in that there's been a constant time blow-out for them to do whatever it is they're doing. No one is forcing anyone to wait it out, there's nothing similar to opt for instead, so moving on is kind of a moot statement when it's a small hassle to have to service the things if you already own one, as everyone here pretty-well does or should. It's pretty clear blind faith has little to do with their success, whatever you mean by that, it's solely the fact that their product is so desirable, and actually really decent that has kept them building them...

You can't just fail to acknowledge the fact that people on their umpteenth services, or whatever figure some have managed, are actually there because they keep using the things. That's a fair choice, if there was something else with the same features, maybe people would buy it. Until then, hopperlife is what it is. If you find the company a joke, why do you read up on them? They're still just a small team still building just a dry herb vaporizer, one which makes most of your impressive vape list redundant, when it's working. And you might as well realise these latest updates have been long awaited to make that the case. So perhaps stop with the blind pessimism?

Got offered a nearly unused GH Ti darkgrey - the only coloured one I like and intended to buy as a backup.
Should I buy it in this unsecure times?
I wouldn’t. As Molten Tiger alluded to in an earlier post, it could be the combination of old/new parts/electronics during the RMA process that has ppl sending their units back time after time. I only say this as I’m confident you have other decent vapes that can be used as back ups while your OG GH is in the warranty cue. ;)

Let’s see how much of an improvement on reliability once the new set up in the Lab happens first.

... or if your VAS is still strong, just buy it!! I’m all about satisfying and feeding into anything that makes a person happier!!

Love the concept, and reviews. Always wanted one but all the problems scares me away. I am currently using a Davinci iq with zero problems. I wish the grasshopper was more dependable I would buy one in a second... I do want a convection unit and would be perfect love the stealth factor.

If you live in the US and don’t think Hopper Labs will suddenly disappear, why don’t you just get one. You will already have the IQ as a dependable backup if the GH needs to be sent In for repair.

My opinion changes if you live outside of the US

I think it depends on the price. Plus I'd want to know if it was ever RMAd. And of course you need the box too. Remember that you need to pay ghl $45 to transfer the warranty to you (I think that's how it works).

But if it's a good deal, I'd say to go for it. I STILL love my gh!

I also have an iq. Great device. Also a crafty. Cracking device. The grasshopper fills a niche no other device can. I hate being without a working one and bought an omnivap as cover.

Hahaha -Oh them's blues alright, dig it.

SSDD here as well.... other than the earth shifting under our feet (he that hath ears let him hear), nothing surprises me anymore.

That's true; the Hopper seems to require a tech-touch to use properly. I just finished loaning my spare Ti to a friend who'd never vaped. He kept it for a month. It came back working very weird. It takes 10 seconds to heat, it doesn't heat up well except on T5, and even then requires a second-click to get it going. Throughout the month when we'd speak I'd have to refine and "nuance" the instructions to use it right. .... Yeah, it's a techy vaporizer.

The FW4 is very simple and works just one way. It takes a gentle slower-than-slow draw, but that's it's only requirement. The rest just happens as it should.

12 degees?!?! That's a veritable heatwave!!! Be sure to stay hydrated, man. But yes, gratefulness is always a good way to go.

It's the cabin fever, too... The holidays are over *yay!*, and I can get out of the house more...

Stay warm!

That's pretty much what was going on with mine after a friend tried to use it and kept giving it these "half-clicks that would clearly confuse the hopper. I *think* that it ended up going back to the lab - this was quite a while ago, now - and has been fine since. But I don't let anyone else use it anymore.

Alrighty then, I'm gonna unwatch this thread again. I'll be back the next time something momentous comes out of the lab.

Be well! I as well will be going dark for as long as it takes to get my hoppers back to leave commentary then....

In the mean time I think that's pretty good advice. I'll definitely be taking an objective look at my hoppers and noting their performance when they finally get here. I'm probably a month behind in the queue though. But it should be noticeable if they have improved on their processors, my last two services were a bit lacklustre with a couple of tiny marks added to one unit and limited performance from the other, although a quick heat up time (which only lasted a couple of months before taking 10+ seconds, which deteriated to 30+ then red flashing lights).
This time around I expect the devices to be working like when I first got them. Clearly there's been lots of hardware issues, and perhaps they're still in the midst of figuring it out, but whilst fiddly, hardware can be fixed. And when it is fixed, there won't be many downsides to owning one. As it is, the worst thing about them is how irate people get when they stop working as they basically rely on it and aren't interested in the competition. Without considering that a nuisance, there's hardly a downside. But the next few months will be pivotal for HL and our hoppers.

Hey everyone, I've been a ghost on this thread for a long time — because my Hopper (original Indiegogo-backed one) had been working without any flaws for over a year (EDIT: looks like since June 2016)! Unfortunately, I dropped it at a concert in NY just before the new year and lost it (anyone on here find it? I'll pay a finder's fee! ;) ).

I did the sensible thing and immediately ordered a brand new one (while it was still 15% off). While waiting for it to ship — they listed a 2-week processing period —, I've been using my other vapes. While some of them surpass some parts of the Hopper, none of them can match it overall. I'm craving my Hopper!

From skimming the last page of this thread, it look like Hopper Labs still hasn't managed to work out the kinks in the Hoppers or their QA? I'll admit that I was a lucky one to have had minimal issues with my Hopper (I attribute this to never charging with their charger and never turning the temp dial with a battery inside).

Can anyone give me a quick primer on what current issues with Hopper Labs or new Hoppers are?

PS seriously, if anyone on FC found my hopper, I will pay a finder's fee! :D
