Underdog Log Vapes

coming across an issue i haven't had in the past. tonight my dog seems to have begun to go intermittently cold. but will warm back up after i bump the VVPS, seems to have to be above 13.8V to get hot.

i'm assuming this is a VVPS issue? i've had this VVPS for quite a few years. unfortunately i seem to have lost my wall wart so i can't test to see if this problem is due to my UD.

thinking i might go ahead and just grab this unit to replace what i have now if these are signs of the beginning of the end.

edit: i've also found my VVPS dial to be more sensitive than it used to be if that means anything

The most likely point of failure would be an extension cord. They are sometimes very tricky to pin down as they may work fine in some positions and intermittently if cord is bent a little differently. I would look there first if you are using an extension cord. If you are not using an extension cord-get one. The inexpensive cord can take the pulls and twists that happen when you move the dog around. Better to have a cheap extension cord take the strain and fail rather than putting stress on a more expensive component like your power supply. If the problem is your VVPS, the link to the Tekpower HY 1502 is a solid choice. I have been using one for over 3 years with no problems. Dial is a little finicky and displayed voltage may not agree exactly with your volt meter. The reading will give you a point of reference even if it constantly reads .1 V lower than your volt meter. You will need lab style wiring setup tp connect the Tekpower VVPS to dog. Talk to Underdog about the needed wiring and banana plugs necessary. Good Luck!

F^ck - first stem I have ever dropped and broke. And this one had a healthy amount of honey from heavy usage.

Going to jump on that sale and order more stems/gongs.

In the short term, is there a way to even it out and use as an ultra short gong??

Received my walnut dog today. Its a beaut. I immediately fell in love with the direct nylon at around 10.4. However the dd glass i can get a hit or two when i crank it up. Is the glass justa lighter hit? I dont think its that big of a deal the nylon gets me ripped on next to nothing.
I love the Walnut dogs. The direct draw glass is my favorite. It does take significantly higher voltage to get the same cloud density as the stainless steel tips. So crank it up. I actually like to temp step with the glass stem starting with a couple of whispy hits you talked about. Then turn it up .5 for a couple more hits. Then go another half volt higher to finish things off. I will get 6 to 8 nice draws from the glass stems.

Thanks for the tips. Did some more testing i loaded less is the glass tip and just use the ext cord and skip the vvps and get 2 great hits.

With the glass DD you will need a bit more voltage and have to take a slower draw.

Even starting slow and increasing the rate of draw towards the end of a pull can help.

As for how much material, with any if the stems/Gongs I will slightly (1-2mm) overfill the screen bowl and then light tamp so the herb is 0.5-1mm above the basket rim. I keep my baskets around 2-3mm away from the heater.

With the glass stems, the screen A do move a little withcleaning and tamping so make sure they aren't too far away from the heater. I made a simple dowel measure tool to mark my ideal screen depth every time - and periodically check the depth if the vapor is light.

I'd recommend the vvps - 12 volts is a bit to high, and most of the units available run a little hot (risking combustion).

For my dog, I can get decent clouds anywhere from 10.2 all the way up to 11.5 (haven't gone any further - nearly combusted here). It depends on the strain, the ambient room temperature, the stem or gong in use.

Hope some of that might be of use

Oh maybe i need to push my screen down even on the nylon i can go 12 without combustion
Slower draw helped alot.Thank you. How far for the screens on the nylon? All the way the the crimp?

Hi all!

My first UD arrived in the mail today and I am quite excited. :) I'm having some difficulties getting used to it though and was wondering if I could get some tips here. It has the MK2 core.

I've used an extreme q with a 14mm water pipe whip adapter for some time; I'm trying to get a similar setup going with my UD (minus the whip, I'm guessing). First thing I noticed was I probably should have gone for the glass water pipe adapter rather than the nylon one, which holds a small amount and seems difficult to clear/repack. I just ordered a glass one but any tips for the 14mm nylon?

My herbs are black after using without the travel VVPS it came with, like BAD combustion, using any stem. I have read things about moving the screens and adjusting the voltage, but I don't know where to begin. What is a good starting voltage? Mine seems to max at 12? How should the screens be adjusted?

Thanks for the help!

The straw method (suck the weed up) works best with the s/s tips. Don't overfill them, you basially just want to fill the basket screen (I tamp very lightly but your milage may vary). Then take the little muslin bag they send with the package and after vaping but while it's still hot blow the load out into the bag. Should keep it nice and clean for quite awhile.

You didn't specify what voltages you've tried. 10.5-11 is usually a good general vicinity to start with for dry herb.

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally like to keep my screen almost at the very top for those stems, and tend to load just enough to fill the basket, maybe a tiny bit more, but be sure not to "pack" it down.. I hope that helps.. Find a draw speed you're happy w/, then find a good voltage and load size that's not too restricting on the air flow..

I think you mean the SC2 Core?
I think UD is still developing the MK-Ultra core! It's supposed to be Top Secret though.. you didn't hear it from me! ;)

thx for the tips! I think I had the screen way too far in. I only tried the default voltage, I just tried 10 and it seems to be a good spot.

Yes, it's a "Standard Core Mk2 (SC2)" according to the site, sorry!

Aromatherapy for the season. So I broke out the UD, Some beeswax and 3 copper cups. 3 Essential oils - Wintergreen, clove and lemongrass to fill the room with. :chill:

My dog is an older model that has a TPN-023 set at 12.7.

Have an M that I use without the condenser and later found out that the Nongs fit inside the MP. So my M has Nong adapters.

Has anybody come up with a clever way to click their VC with a UD in some manner?

Generally speaking they come pre-installed at the depth that provides a good experience for most users but they can be adjusted up or down from there. Our personal preference is adjusted up for an even smaller bowl. If you can use the Nylon stem without combustion at 12v then you probably have too fast a draw speed or not quite enough heat up time. Most of the Dogs shipping the past year or so will reach combustion well before 12v, there are some exceptions with cooler running Dogs but this applies to 90% of them.

I'm sure everyone else will have super helpful advice but mine is to use it with the VVPS, at a voltage somewhere between 10.5v and 11.5v, with a fairly slow/easy draw and the screens in the default position. Adjust from there as necessary, first with voltage and draw speed and screen placement as a last course of adjustment only if really needed.

sup you lowly dogs? i think my dog needs a tune up @underdog & @underdogette. whats the best way to set something up? IM here or email?

my dog has started getting too hot and combusting loads. even with the extended AC adapter and the heat as far away from the load as possible.

i LOVE this vape and cant wait to get it back in the rotation. please advise.

Best to IM us but running too hot doesn't typically (ie, almost never) get corrected with a visit to the vet.

It sounds more like you need to run it thru a VVPS or a dimmer to bring the temp down to your desired level. Do you have one of our Travel VVPS or a different one? I'd start there and you'll be back in business in no time!

To clear it, it should just blow out in a neat little plug. To repack, try the straw method.

Exactly, that's the best way we've found as well!

ahhh ok. i have been using my dog, with the power extension, for quite some time and never had the issue. it just started recently so i thought something needed to be adjusted. i have a nice dimmer/outlet combo i use to control the temp on the cartridge heaters in my DIY rosin press, but i am now interested in this VVPS you speak about.
