Discontinued The Grasshopper

No, that their product is very unreliable and as far as anyone can tell they haven't done much if anything to improve that problem.
What specific problem are you referring to?

Not sure why you don't think they're constantly trying to improve the product. I'll use vaposhop's latest updates as a reference to problems being fixed:

  • Gold plating on the electrical surfaces reducing the heating in the back and housing - "hot back-end" issue fixed.
  • Grasshopper battery V2 - they addressed the need for improved QA
  • Better Backend Dial action (Smoother) - straight forward.
  • The On/Off button now will work in either position, making use more intuitive - not a problem for users but they listened to customers feedback and implemented this feature.
  • Completely redesigned temperature sensor (fully eliminates red/blue flash error) - Cop lights fixed.
  • New Heater design for 20% more power and much greater reliability - Here's where the current issue lies. In this heater revision they addressed the straight to blue no heat issue but a new problem popped up(longer heat up time to no heat). The heater is undergoing revisions and they're bringing the manufacturing process in house. The heaters were being made by a 3rd party, timely and costly to make changes. Hopefully this will speed up everything on all fronts for Hopper.
  • Decreased draw resistance - Implemented design tweaks to improve airflow.
They also fixed the exploding back end with a laser weld. The "phantom" turning on/off problem has been fixed as well, was related to the on/off button.

I have been a Hopper lover since I purchased 2 + 2 for gifting, waited a year and received them all in Aug. '16. Lots of RMA's for me, but I've been fine with it.
HOWEVER, reading your listing of everything they've addressed along the way only accentuates, for me, a couple of things they are still really poorly performing on. To wit, the leather sleeves. "Promise" dates have come and gone for OVER a year. What could possibly be the technical difficulty with an item man has been producing for centuries? The current availability date, after several adjustments, is Nov. 24, 2017. (?)
This brings us to the highly anticipated new charger and the SS case, for which HL has also taken money months in advance. The expectation date for these is tomorrow, Dec. 11th. We'll see what we'll see. I don't fault anyone for taking pre-orders for items like these; it's the failure to meet projections that, for me, is inexcusable, given that it's happened time and time again.

This all comes down to budgeting. The most recent heater issue needed to be addressed first and took priority sequence. What's the point of having a leather sleeve for a hopper that doesn't work? Bringing the heater manufacturing process in house was a tough but necessary decision for them. Accessories can wait in my mind. Little known fact, Hopper Labs actually took a substantial loss on the units sold through the crowd funding. They're not rolling in piles of cash laughing away, they're slugging this out on the daily grind for you and me, I for one am grateful.

Unless you're close friends with one of the owners of HL, while I mostly agree, most your post is only YOUR opinion.

The GH is a beautifully engineered vaporizer.......on paper. Its design unfortunately is not beautiful for manufacturing. Its problems have been consistent from day one, none of the major ones have been corrected in my opinion.

I think most would agree that it's a special unit when working properly. However, when having a long term properly working GH is considered lucky, I can't consider it a success.

Being strategic when budgeting is not my opinion but is in the nature of budgeting itself. You don't have to be close friends with HL to email them and ask for oneself.

Which specific problems haven't been fixed that you're referring to?

@Hogni agree with you here, Hopper Labs definitely isn't perfect and has lots of room to improve all around. My posts were just an attempt to clear some of the confusion out there and bring everyone up to speed on the progress of the GH.

I don't know whether it's really a progress when somes issues are solved but next - like my issue I had with my last 2 hoppers nobody reported about before - is popping up.
Again, I love my (working) hopper bc of it's performance and esp. it's stealthiness no other portable can compare. But you have to be a fan of masochism or at least fatalism not to capitulate after all what happenend and is happening. And we really don't have to speak about their customer communication.

What has been an issue the entire time the GH has been out?

Insufficient reliability, insufficient testability, and resultant high failure rate and multiple, frequent RMAs on the same device.

I'm not going to debate it, if you like, feel free to go back through this thread and the evidence is there.

If its not an issue for you, fine. But my evaluation of it differs.

I wish that hopper and every one just dropped that leather sleeve

Sick of hearing about that thing

:cuss:
When it was the pre-ordered Hopper itself we were waiting for I didn't mind the wait. Most everyone expected something so novel and potentially revolutionary might take a long time and suffer lots of setbacks. The hopper still does suffer a lot of setbacks and I am sympathetic to HL's problems; I truly want them to succeed.
The accessory items are different, in that they have all had projected delivery schedules and all projections have failed to bring fruition. This is my only issue, and it's a recurring theme with HL.

Have you paid for a sleeve? If not, then it's understandable that you're tired of hearing about them.
I do agree with you, in that I'm tired of the whole sleeve thing, just apparently for different reasons.
As I said, we'll see what we'll see about the new charger and the case, both due to start shipping today.

I posted my two off today, squeezed in a third service trip for the year.
I still find it worthwhile having two, as I have an M and a Sublimator going with out hoppers is easily bearable, yet getting them back is still welcomed as they are heaps better than the M, much closer to a portable Sub which is the tits. And that near instant heat up is great.
Anyway, it's a balance I find pretty enjoyable. Once the RBT Splinter hits the market, I'll be pretty tempted to swap a hopper for one, but until then choices are slim to none, so services it is. If you can bear with it it's breezy, it's a fair trade off if you desire what the hopper offers.

But then others like Jcat have been plagued with issues and when that's the case, it's pretty ridiculous.
From what I understand things have really picked up, but there's still a ways to go.
Hoping the current changes will have me receiving a quality device back, and won't just spawn an array of new issues as has happened before.

When I pre-ordered, the Ti was supposed to have a sleeve included in the deal, so they still owe me one.
There was also a time they accepted orders and payment for the original design sleeve and some number of those have never shipped.

Haven't found another vape since that milks up glass nearly as much.
The Sticky Bricks and the german Dreamwood vapes come close or even better. The Dreamwood DLX Pro works great on a glass piece and I'm happy to have an SB Junior as replacement for the probably inevitable future RMA roundtrip with my new Hopper. However, that butane torch is the opposite of chill in my book. It doesn't work great in 10/10 cases and it's hard to impossible to teach a newb how to use it for the first time but it's the one (affordable) back up for a hopper that's not several steps back in efficacy. Actually, having the SB Junior was my main reason to buy a Hopper again. What I hated most on the RMAs I had was that I had nothing comparable on hand when it comes to immediate action and super fat clouds.

I haven’t read otherwise but what is the update for Canadian RMAs? I first read on here that Hopper Labs was setting up a warranty plan so that Canadians didn’t have to ship defective units back to the Colorado.

Then I read that warranties stay in Canada only if you bought through a Canadian vendor.

Does anyone know what the current plan that is written in stone?

Got a Dynavap M as a back up as my gh is flashing red/blue. Not bad, I’m really impressed by it, but I’m really missing the convience of quick discreet hits due to the hopper’s small footprint and quick heat up time.
I'm not totally sure either, I just read a couple posts either on here or Reddit that mentioned a Canadian RMA option was available. When I send my hopper back, I'll find out.

Shieldsab,

diddymao

aint no party like a diddy party
so i mailed hopper labs to see if they are shipping the charger and ss case to me as stated(11th dec)

"Hey Caroline,
Hope your good, just wondering if the charger and ss case are being shipped today?
super eager to try them out
talk soon"

and this is the reply

"Those items have not yet arrived here. We will send you an address confirmation email shortly before they do and will send your order out once we receive your reply.

Best,
Caroline"

the sad bit is im not even surprised , hopper labs stick to their word lol, right lol moving on.....

There are no Canadian RMA options. Hopper Labs wants all RMA's sent back to USA.

They will replace your defective components on a monthly basis until you get tired of paying for shipping returns back to them. I lasted until my 7th RMA.

This is the only Vape I regret purchasing.

***Edited in order to not post back-to-back:***

After asking to close my open RMA I receive:

Caroline (Hopper Labs) Dec. 11, 2017, 2:28 p.m.

I understand it has been frustrating to send the Hopper back repeatedly. The team has found the cause of the malfunctions and is bringing the process in-house to rectify this and ensure all Hoppers are being sent out in 100% function conditions. I will leave this request open and ask that you send the device back at your convenience. You can send me a copy of your shipping receipt so I can petition the team to reimburse you. I will need the whole Hopper sent in to us before I can offer service. We will also need both Bodies returned as you mentioned is happening now.

.........

"ensure that all hoppers are sent out in 100% function(al) conditions" - how long have they known about this issue and have been letting it slide?

It's incredible there is so much RMA's and issues with Hoppers and they didn't still find the solution.... in another hand I bought a Ti GH a few months ago (8-9) and it still works very well despite some small bugs I was able/lucky to fix by myself. I don't take care of it and carry it in dust, under the rain and in my dirty pockets.... I forgotten to mention I got it from a fellow member here (not sure but he got it himself from another people!), so it was already used and you can see it, there is a lot of scratches!

One question please, I removed the screen in the bottom of the heating chamber to clean this area a few weeks ago (there was nothing to remove, I just blow up the heater) and replaced the screen... I thought it was flat but noticed yesterday the screen doeszn't sit flat on the bottom of the heating chamber, I tried to push it hard but wasn't able to fix it and was afraid to push too hard and break something under....? Please, how do you replace the bottom screen?
