Yeah, the 2 textures in the same color work so well together. Wow, beautiful. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it, @DirtyD.

@stardustsailor, mine finally hit NYC (been there for the last 2 - 3 days). I think it might be at a customs postal authority. Hoping to have it by Thursday at the latest. Hopefully even by Tues. Can't wait. Well, I can, I have to, but I certainly don't want to. :)

I just got my stem tonight. I will post pics next week when I have time & can catch some appropriate lighting. Took 15 days from Greece. I really like it! The surface finish feels great gripping; I got the rock texture. It certainly is a welcome improvement over the omni as my fingers didn't like the feel of the facets &, being that I use Pipes IH, solely, there was no spinning benefit for me from the faceting.

Now, I can't speak from experience, but judging by 6 hits, it seems that the 2.8mm carb (twice the airflow of the M) might wind up being the perfect size for me. Prior, w/ the with Omni carb, I'd have to pull real hard w/ the carb closed & then, at an instinctual(?) point, open up the carb fully for an extended time & always got an uneven blend. Now, I'm able to finger the air hole, in short, semi-rapid bursts which is a comfortable style for me AND a plus, the vapor & air mix evenly throughout the draw. A significant smoother hit in both draw & temp. Good bye hard pulls & vapor harshness. All though others thought me crazy, even @stardustsailor (btw, thanks for buying the 2.8mm bit), I'm delighted that I trusted my gut & took a chance on a large carb.

Well, -this post-for sure ain't about "Vapor related equipment",
neither about the Titanium stems.
But it's for the lovers of Ti ,EDC and weird stuff :

https://urbanedcsupply.com/collections/in-stock-all?sort_by=created-descending

Lot's of great stuff !
But lot -if not everything- made out of titanium seems rather pricey,I'd say ...

Regarding ti and quality fetishsm it's worth a look at Magnus' shop. Not so pricey as it seems first. Prizes are in NZD ;)
Thanx for the link.Really cool stuff there ,also !
Dude you're an absolute artist with these things..
Thank you !

And a big-big-big-huge thanx @VapCap aka George from Dynavap .
:rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon::rockon:
The Man mailed me -free of any charge - lots of Ti tubing.
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
Some are left overs from the CNC ,but still will do even for XL stems ,
some Ti tips (!),while he dropped in plenty Ti half-meter tubes !
I'm left speechless! That's this year's best Christmas present ,for me !

George ,you're more than a great guy ! (nothin' new here , everybody knows that by now )
Besides all the features of the VapCap ,the above is one more
reason why I consider the Vapcap as the "Mother-Of-All-Vapes" .

Nobody else could have done all that ,but you .

Cheers,Brother .

Niobium ( Chemical symbol : Nb ) stems .

I've been searching for Niobium tubing for some time ,now .
No luck at all.
Very difficult to find that material first place, let alone in tube form.
Well ,the universe -actually was George himself -responded to my humble re-quest ...
:brow:

"Also in the package, you will find something else I have been very anxious to experiment with. 10x1mm Niobium tube. This was a challenge to source, and I haven't had the focus to do what you are doing, so I hope you will be able to make something interesting with it. It is supposed to color better than Ti. I think I labeled it, and it is slightly heavier then the Ti with a slightly darker color. "

Niobium ....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niobium
http://shop.naturallynickelfree.com/pages/niobium-colors

Niobium is heavier than Titanium.
It gets anodised in same hues like Titanium ,
but the same hues are somewhat more vivid /vibrant than of Titanium .
It's very rare to find at tube form .VERY-VERY difficult to source !
And four times more expensive than Titanium .
And almost eight times more expensive than Copper .

https://www.metalary.com/titanium-price/
https://www.metalary.com/niobium-price/
https://www.metalary.com/copper-price/

Right now ,thanx to George I've in stock about 1000 mm of 8mm ID /10 mm OD " Nb " tubing .
Or to put it in other forms :
A ) 16x 62 mm standard Niobium stems
or
B ) ~12x 79 mm XL stems.

I really haven't decided which length will prevail, here.
What matters most is that some really rare textured and anodised Niobium stems are going to be made.
Few of them, for now at least.

More about Niobium stems ,as soon as I 'll start working with Niobium tubing.

Cheers.

10 mm OD / 5 mm ID Ti & 10 mm OD / 7 mm ID Ti tubing

George continues on his pm :
" In addition, there are 2 other thicknesses of the Ti tube. One has a 5mm bore so you could machine down the diameter much smaller if you like as the wall is 2.5mm instead of 1mm. This having the effect of a condenser sized bore without the extra piece, and some extra mass.
There are also a few pieces of 7mm ID tube so there is a bit more wall thickness than normal
. "

With the 10 OD/5 ID tubing ,I can make couple of things ,like:
a ) Titanium spinning mouthpieces ,anodised or not as also textured or not .
&
b ) Condenser-less Titanium stems (carbless or not ),
as also with extra depth of texture if wished .
A new type of VC : Cap-tip & stem .All what's needed.
But firstly I've to see if heat will allow for this dream to become reality.

Still ,I need a real lathe machine for this kind of work to be nicely & precisely done.
So ,for now I won't try to do much with that kind of Ti tubing stock.

As for the 10 mm OD / 7 mm ID ,I haven't quite decided what to do with that tubing.

Titanium tips and anodising

I guess George never really expected the glory that the VC device will acquire.
Never thought that he was/is creating a legacy .

" I love your work! I have been planning on offering color anodized Ti since the first concept of using the material in my devices, but I've also had the good problem of needing to focus on making more units, so it hasn't happened yet.
Then you took the initiative and began creating some nice new textures on top of the colorizing, and I had been able to watch as your process evolves and develops. The appearance of what you are making is impressive and is very much in line with what I hope is the future of this little adventure. The hope being, give everyone a simple smoking alternative and provide a platform for the creative ones to express themselves.
I sent you a few Ti tips so you could color those and offer them without the need for others to ship you theirs.
"

I've asked George ,if I can offer these to-be-anodised Ti tips as complete VC units.
If I'll have his approval on that , just few ( about 10 of them ) really awesome VC rarities will soon start to appear !

The " Bastards of Frankenstein " Stems !!!

Well ...
" I put some scrap pieces in there for you to try and work with as well. "

Those scrap pieces actually are pretty awesome ...

A small part is CNC faceted and also a tiny "DYNAVAP" logo is present .
In some tubes ,logo is pretty sharply done ,in others not so sharply done .

I'm going to use that faceted side as the mp end ..

The rest is going to be textured and anodised.
That's why the " bastards of frankenstein " character of these few ,limited number of units ...
Half CNC-made by DYNAVAP ,half hand-made by SDS !

As far as for me, I am not looking for anything other than to assist you with your endeavor and continue to spread the goodwill that seems to be present surrounding this simple device. This material is my way way of trying to pay it forward, and to support the innovators.
I hope this is OK.

If you would like more materials, please let me know what you are looking for and how much. Since I am purchasing these materials in larger quantities, I don't mind sharing. This is especially easy if the scrap is useful to you, as I am not currently using it.

In summary, please keep in touch, and let me know how to best assist.

Cheers,

@VapCap sent me a similar package of his exotic wood off cuts when I first started making stems. It was a real blessing and huge show of the kind of guy George is. I was genuinely shocked at the amount of material he sent to me, nearly a complete stranger, out of pure kindness and generosity to a fellow maker.

@stardustsailor You've gotta make some vapcap porn with all that fancy metal now.

@stardustsailor this is such a wonderful illustration of the heart and generosity of George @VapCap. When I first started reading at FC and discovered George and the Dynavap story, I was fascinated both with the Vapcap and the kindness and determination of George. Most would have given up when faced with the odds he faced upon the startup and funding of the company. He has been so encouraging to the accessory makers who have created specialty stems and products for his magical creation, along with delivering stellar customer service, and stands behind the Dynavap product 110%. Also, the almost 1000 pages in the Dynavap thread, with folks being welcoming and helpful to everyone. A winner all the way.

Niobium Stems & anodised Ti tips #2

Because Niobium has a bit higher density than 316L stainless steel (!) ....
Thus is actually heavier than 316 L .

And because it gets really vibrant hues ,when anodised ...

I've decided that I will be offering only standard length ( 62 mm ) Nb stems.
And fully textured and anodised.

I won't offer these stems as banded ,but as fully textured ,since polished niobium (non-anodised)
tends to get a bluish tint over time ,when exposed to air ,at room temps.
And those polished areas will not match with non-anodised Ti tips ,that good.

And since I got the ok from George to offer complete units ...

I will be offering Niobium stems only as rare complete VC units( with standard condenser )
and with matching anodised Ti tips.

cheers.

Health effects of niobium

Niobium and its compounds may be toxic (niobium dust causes eye and skin irritation) , but there are no reports of human being poisoned by it. Apart from measuring its concentration, no research on niobium in humans has been undertaken.

Niobium, when inhaled, is retained mainly in the lungs, and secondarily in bones. It interferes with calcium as an activator of enzyme systems. In laboratory animals, inhalation of niobium nitride and/or pentoxide leads to scarring of the lungs at exposure levels of 40 mg/m3.

It must be placed in a protective atmosphere when processed at even moderate temperatures because it tends to react with oxygen, carbon, the halogens, nitrogen, and sulfur. The metal is inert to acids, even to aqua regia at room temperatures, but is attacked by hot, concentrated acids, and expecially by alkalis and oxidizing agents.

No research? I'll pass thanks!
