Hi everyone! I've been reading on this forum for a few months but that's my first post.
I got my Tubo two days ago and it's beautiful. My short stem is a bit bent but that's not a big deal.
Unfortunately I seem unable to make it work properly. I can't get almost any vapor under 200°C and even at 200 and above I get light clouds.
It doesn't seem to run cold as I really feel hot air when I hit it.
I tried different packing styles (in the stem without rimmed basket screen, in the stem with the rimmed screen and in the basket rimmed screen) but I makes almost no difference.
I also tried to change the resistance but didn't feel real differences.
My AVB come out really light brown even above 210°C.
It could be material dependant but I get great result with same material in my other units (firefly 2, pax 2, vapcap M)
Does anybody have any idea of what could be happening and/or what should I do please?

You using cruise or "on demand"??
My temp range is 210c-225c and I usually fill the whole ground joint and cap the end with a basket screen...

I used "on demand" with "preheating" modes. I just tried cruise at 215 and it worked. I didn't expect to have to use so high temp because i saw a video off someone using his tubo at around 185°C and getting big clouds. Thanks for your input

I get only light (but visible) clouds at 185C - but that's using cruise mode.
Everything works better when the glass is warm.

For on demand I don't use preheat mode exactly, but I do manually preheat the coils for a few seconds holding the fire button before drawing (slowly) and also tend to use the higher end of my temp range.

With regard to the temps, I always assume that's the temp at the coils, and the real temp at load would be probably a few degrees lower - I cap the end of the stem so the load is that bit further away from the heater anyway.
Whatever works I guess :D

To get good performance at low temps, you gotta load a shallow basket at the tip of the joint, risk crumbs falling in, but thats the performance I am used to. You can cruise on low temps too with more standard larger bowl packs as it was said, but I mostly use mine on demand with the shallow basket bowls for more "accurate" temps

No need to squish, and fill as much as you like in there, fill full loosely is best, after the first hit the herbs will stay in place --I take the first hit upside down (fun with the bent stem) to avoid crumbs spilling-- but if anything spills there's no risk of damage, the heater screen will catch them and then you can just poke or blow em out later, no worries. I'd recommend getting an external charger btw, it will charge the batteries much faster and can charge two at once (a two pack of spare batteries would be good too, then you are never down without any). Just keep experimenting and you'll find a style that works best for you, there are a lot of different ways to use the Tubo and they all work great!

so... is it this new firmware being ised here that changes this? obviously the evic works great for this Tubo flower vape use, but i wonder what a DNA chip equipped Tubo could do!

The EVIC on tubo doesnt have a 510 connection :) ,it has the wires directly soldered to the + and - :).

TUBOx has a 510 connection i dont think there is problem using it with EVIC cause i've seen some people do it ,i use mine with RX 300.

i understand that, but that doesnt change the chips capabilities. its still a joyetech chip afterall.

im not trying to be negative towards any products here. just stating facts and do wonder how much a DNA chip (extremely customizable and accurately TC) would improve the Tubo.

oh i know partner. im no expert either. im just saying what the AF people told us about how joyetech devices operate. and their info came directly from joyetech. doesnt matter what firmware is on it. its still limited for TC ability. this “MYeVIC” firmware... who created it? was it joyetech?

i also wanted to make sure that everyone knows im not at all saying anything negative about the Tubo. from what i can tell the joyetech devices work very well for it and many love them. i just wonder... what if true TC was accomplished here...? or to take is a step further... what if you had DNA functionality/capabilities for this vape? the adjustability would be incredible.

i also want to say i LOVE the form factor here. i LOVE the laser cut wood enclosures. i REALLY want to try this vape and see what its about. anyone in STL have one? lol

It was written by an individual who put it out there on the web. It's setting are constantly being tweaked here for this vape, and I find the tweaks helpful with anything I put on the mod.

ok so it wasnt a company or outfit that made it... just a user somewhere? thats pretty cool. i wonder how it compares to the Arctic Fox firmware. al the ecig heads with these devices love the AF firmware. ill have to DL and give the myevic firmware a shot.

Myevic is no longer developed, apart from what @funkyjunky added specially for the tubo (new modes and tweaks) ArticFox is getting more advanced and supports recent devices whereas myevic is frozen.

I second the fact that TC is quite poor on Joyetech/Wismec/eLeaf devices, firstly due to their 510 connector but also because of their ADC and some weird bugs. I'm having the same issues with my brand new evic Primo Mini that I had with my evic VTC mini, and the custom firmware is just a band-aid. It kinda works, sometimes... perhaps... but the temperature accuracy is bad really, it's not uncommon to be +/-10°C around the set point target. Where dedicated sensor vapes can easily get down to +/-1°C.

That being said, trying to do temperature control with full convection devices and without any kind of flow rate sensor is a lost cause, it's missing one of the most important variables. So we're never getting really accurate temperatures... But as long as it allows you to stay out of combustion territory and perform roughly three temperature steps (low, med, high) that's all we need no?

good stuff. for sure thats all you need, but there are chips that can dial it in even more.

as far as how these devices work here with this vape i have zero clue. so in that regard i should probably just shut up. lol. i only posted about it because i am going through the switch to a more accurate chip and when i saw this vape its the first thing i thought of.

im very interested in hitting this vape. and giftmas is just around the corner...

No worries, I already told @funkyjunky to consider making a new tubo entirely from scratch around a DNA or YiHi board. There wouldn't be any mod inside, just the brains, a battery holder and his custom heater, inside a custom frame and body.

I'm sure he already thought about it, because he knows the evic VTC mini won't be available for ever (although he could hoard a pile of them for sure, but it will be discontinued at some point, seeing how fast joyetech is churning new products out every year)

But there would be a downside: all custom firmware modifications would be gone, and I don't think you can customize the DNA firmware beyond locking option sets and creating custom product specific profiles. But at least you can talk with the company and start a dialogue, which would be very hard with joyetech.

mind my temp sensors are around 4degrees offset (204c is 200c)

also if you watch closely, the device is not drawing 70watts continuously at all. (saw you stating this in another thread)

i have seen my fair share of joyetech devices (mostly evic vtwo minis) and while a small fraction seem to be a bit wonky (<4%) and came back, the others do hold temps very accurately from what i can tell. i conclude this by watching display temps that dont fluctuate and are mostly within 1-2degrees and of course my temp sensing setup seen in the video equipped with a type K temp prope, see here for the setup: https://imgur.com/a/ZLQO9
as you can see in the video the temps are only stable when there is airflow, this is mostly due to the PID settings.

the myevic firmware was developed by clockselect but he also had the reverse engineering works of previous ppl, namely the evic-sdk by reversefield and other custom firmware (i name them all in the first post or shortly after).
currently microsur has taken on the task of actively developping a branch of myevic for ecig: https://github.com/MicroSur/sur_myevic, he does support some newer devices. i will eventually buy those mods and adapt the support to the tubofirmware.


also i am getting a bit nervous when ppl claim things without stating the source... thanks in advance :D

i will explore the route of dna sometime in the future but when the tubo functionality can not be ported to them i am having a hard time justifying switching maybe a bit better temp control for a restricted environment.

i dont think thats right. the DNA chip is the most customizable chip available. on top of the lock settings and profiles you can fully customize the curves. for instance you can set it to start your hit with high wattage the first second to eliminate any ramp and then the rest of the hit could be backed down to 20-30 watts for the rest of the hit. you can set it to a dif wattage setting for every second of the hit if you wanted. each second can be adjusted to whatever you want. and these curves can be saved in the profiles. so i could could set up curve A (low wattage slow ramp up) with a specific temp setting and save it. this would be for flavor chasing. then have curve B (more aggressive up front) set with a specifc temp. this would be for cloud chasing. then toggle between the dif profiles depending on what type of hit im after. not to mention you can fully customize the screen. add logos with ease. all kinds of shit. on top of all of that there are tons of profiles made by people using the device available for downloading. so you dont even have to program the profiles yourself. people share them. and you can have up to 10 profiles saved and ready at a moments notice.

i love the idea of anflower vape utilizing a DNA chip. ill be watching this thread.

my statements about joyetech TC being inferior to higher end chips comes from watching ecig reviewers track the TC on their computers. then they post their test data for all to see. and every single one ive seen shows the joyetech devices performing well under that of the higher end chips. ill find some data and post it here. ill also copy and paste the info directly from the Arctic Fox people.

it also comes from the Arctic Fox people who explain that joyetech chips dont even perform real TC. they had to design a workaround because of the weak materials (wire) they used for the 510 connection. ive watched both my evic minis and they fluctuate more than 10deg at times. for my use with concentrates this is unacceptable. but for use with flowers i do not see it being an issue really. i do think tho that your project would benefit from a more customizable chip like a DNA.

I’m quite happy with my Tubo Evic, and see no reason to complain about temperature control. So what if it IS off by a few degrees (IF it even is).....I know what I’m going to get from it at 370F or 380F or whatever. Further, I don’t believe there’s a convection vape on the market that is precise in terms of displayed temperature at the point of contact with the herb (How CAN it be, when there are so many variables, such as draw speed, length of draw, type of grind, packing, screen cleanliness, etc.? All that matters to me is that I get consistent results at a particular setting with a particular method, and I do with the Tubo Evic.

There are some intelligent people posting here, and it’s sorta interesting to read their viewpoints on temp control, but IMO those viewpoints are not critical to how I use the Tubo. Perhaps it matters more with regard to oils, where they make direct contact with the coil in other devices?

Edit: @2clicker, I just saw your last post, in which you mention your concerns may not be relevant to flowers. Obviously, I agree. You should order a Tubo. :)

trust me i want to! lol

may have to wait til after the holidays though. another thing holding me back is that i find it hard to justify a flower vape purchase when i rarely use flowers anymore. i do occasionally.
