Gear D-nail thread

Why is it that water cleans my SIC better than ISO... at 250*.
I just can't wrap my head around it.

Haha I wouldn’t know but I’ll certainly keep that in mind for the future. Th
I spent the weekend with my new Sapphire Halo on my Flowerpot and WOW. just WOW compared to SiC Halo. Even my buddy was shocked how different it taste and how it was smoother on the throat.

One issue with the Sapphire Halo i have is, how do you keep this thing clean? I dont get puddles and all the material dries up in the Halo and leaves a stain.

Is the only way to clean it, is by heating the nail up to 800F and scrap it off?

I’m definitely curious as well. I know my recent venture into e-nails and the SiC dish with sapphire insert has made me totally consider the $300 sapphire dish a worthwhile investment. Lol I may find myself doing it wayyyy sooner than I should considering the expense. xD I hope you are enjoying it though, I have no suggestions on cleaning and am all ears. I’ve seen/heard numerous different suggestions for cleaning. I wouldn’t know where to begin. Q-tipping alone has left my SiC clean so far the past few days. Idk what approach I’ll end up using—possibly that water at 250* suggestion above first though. Even though I have plenty of 99 iso as well.

I started off with quartz halo and hated the puddling and got the SiC halo and loved the taste and no puddling. Then got the Liger 30mm with SiC insert and loved that until i caved in and bought a sapphire insert for the Liger and I am in heaven. Now with the Sapphire Halo, every time i dab at home, it will be on sapphire only. I didnt think Sapphire could be worth the money $300 but it is so worth it as the taste and vape is so much more enjoyable.

The SiC insert and halo are now my back ups as these sapphires are fragile.

Gotcha. Yeah I’d always used fairly cheap quartz bangers up until recently. Didn’t start to invest into concentrate-specific equipment until more recently but I definitely prefer concentrates. We have weaker lungs and prefer indica as well for instant relief as I very much rely on cannabis. Harsh, poor quality smoke or vapor is just unacceptable. I prefer to suffer without if it’s not going to help and be specific to my needs. I’m so far loving the SiC setup more than I honestly expected to. I have less experience in the e-nail realm so maybe I have lower expectations too. My sapphire insert has almost teased me in a way and made me verrry curious and envious of the sapphire dish now. Lol

I was originally shopping between a liger or these D-Nail lineups. The cyber week deal on D-Nail was just unbelievably good and I ended up doing pretty good I think; Liger sales were nowhere close so that kind of decided for me this time. I don’t think I’m disappointed with my choice at all but I’m intrigued enough to get them all lol. I always prefer high quality brands and equipment of things that are expandable, repairable, and versatile like those two lineups seem to be. I’m much more inclined to spend money on such things. I don’t mind paying more for something that’s easily so much better.

Like it’s condensing more than before—I suspect it’s temperature related but I’m not really sure. Thoughts there? Such generic search terms haven’t yielded me much results there either.

Condensing vapor it is indeed. You could try warm water in your rig to reduce it some, but I think it comes with the territory if we use water to cool and smooth out dabs.

You could also run your rig without any water at all and see if that suits you.

Cheers

Yes! I’ll try that. I often use warm water with flower pipes. Really helps several things. Hadn’t tried with dabbing though. I think it’s started to even out now that I’ve adjusted temp more though. Those first dabs I think were just too hot and was causing it to condense a lot almost as soon as it got out of the water—just stuck to the side instantly. But I bet you’re right, warm water wouldn’t temp-shock the smoke as much. For lack of better term.

A lot of us use resin collectors and drop downs to keep out pipes clean. They also keep your pipe from getting real hot.

My drop down has been coated with resins for months, lol. But my pipe is squeaky clean. Every couple of months I scrape out resins from the drop down.

****Edit***

For my SiC insert and Halo and even my Sapphire Insert, I leave them soaking in Distilled water at room temp for 30 mins or so and that works great. But this is not working on the sapphire halo as its not polished and textured surface.

Yup, pretty much the only way to clean the saph Halo, that I have found, is heat. You can get most surface stains off with some baking soda and a qtip but the way dnail makes the saph Halo leaves is super super porous and eventually the material that soaks in needs to be burnt out.....good news is a little while @850-900 should do the trick

Hey everyone. I’m trying to post in the right spot on this. I just got my first e-nail and I also went with a D-Nail Slim Series with the SiC Halo dish. So far so good, even though I kinda had to wait an extra day(today) because I brain-farted on the proprietary carb-cap I would need. Where my main question lies is in the sapphire insert I went ahead and got with it. How exactly is it supposed to be done? Any tips with it? Heat up with dish&nail or throw on after? Throw on with dab on it or dab directly on the sapphire and just drip into dish? I’ve went through Bubbleman’s videos and stuff but most info(not much) I find is catered to the older versions of the dish(non halo) and sapphire insert(sits deeper in dish instead of like a halo). Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all.

I have really good luck using just tweezers through the middle hole. Just line it up and close them to drop it on. It was some good advice I got on this forum, I forget from who now. I posted a video awhile ago that should show it:
After a couple weeks with it I still feel like I don't get the impact as much when I use the sapphire insert, the same amount or even less just seems to impact me more out of the sic or quartz halo. Probably still some user error involved.

That being said I love this thing, the flavor is amazing. The first hit is so tasty and it gives another 2-3 less tasty ones after that. I think I'm going to use it whenever I get a new strain to really try out the flavor first and keep my sic halo as my daily driver. Also love watching it after I drop it on..

Is there anything wrong/damaging with using tweezers and grabbing the edge of the insert lightly to place it on? I have had numerous drops already(not like drops that hurt it, just got dust on my dab lol)... and the “hole in the middle” trick doesn’t work well for me. :/

I don't think that holding it by the edge should be a problem, as long as you don't squeeze super hard (I imagine one could crack the insert if one tried).

I would typically use a pair of forceps, much like these: https://surgical-instruments-suppli...uct/35in-serrated-dressing-forceps_27147.html

Although mine a bit longer which keeps you away from the heat when dropping it on the Halo.
If you squeeze the forceps shut and place the tines into the hole of the insert, allowing them to open will pick up the insert from the inside.
Then just place the insert over your Halo and squeeze the forceps shut to drop it on.

Gotcha. Yeah I just was having a hard time at first with holding on to it. But I’ve been using ceramic/SS tweezers and being gentle. I saw just about everyone talk about your method of using the middle hole though. That was about the only consensus that I found across the whole web. Lol

Looks like the oil would run onto the retaining nut and then up the Ti sides as you inhaled. I dunno though looks a little more substantial than the insert, and having direct contact to the dish should make things more comparable to the halo I bet.

I also just wanted to report in on my Sapphire Halo purchase from the black friday sale.

Wow... It is exactly as I recall @herbivore21 describing. The flavors that I thought were pronounced on the SiC halo before now feels like being behind some sort of barrier. The sapphire just brings the whole flavor profile out so much more than I even imagined. It's honestly been a bit of a trip, getting to know my buds again, and I have been rosining way too much material... but sooo worth it.

I had the insert before, but never really got into it the same way/never got similar results anyways. If I was basing my sapphire experience off the insert, I don't think I would have taken the leap to the halo. But I am glad I didn't decide that.

One issue I have sort of been having: oil seems to keep finding a way under the retaining nut and then gets into the inside diameter of the halo. Not that big of a deal as it comes out when I heat to 900ish, but just curious if this is typical? I have been trying to be very gentle about tightening the nut onto the halo, so maybe being too gentle is it? But I keep cleaning it out, tightening it down pretty well, and the problem comes back. Not that big of a deal, it is out of the vapor path and doesn't seem to affect performance much. But... just something.

Anyways, just a little bit of a review so far on the sapphire halo. I really dig it!

I really like the idea of this as a lower cost entry to sapphire with better performance then the other sapphire insert. Interesting to note its made for the ti Halo only, I wonder why they didn't fit it to the Halo nut instead of just the ti post.

I got all excited for another sapphire product. but its just an insert for people with Ti Halos who want to dabber in sapphire.

Least its inside the halo rather than on top of the nut.

(shrugs) An obviously much more robust sapphire setup then the previous insert, plus at less than half the ticket price of the saph Halo?

The other inserts always seemed like a janky setup and with a lot of folks here willing to sacrifice long term performance for a few bucks saving in the short term. If i didn't already have a saph Halo, Id definitely try one of these setups even if it meant having to buy a ti dish.

Agreed.
I was thinking about picking one up to use as a sapphire "Core Reactor" for my 30mm sapphire Liger insert.
I have a cracked Liger 30mm sapphire that I could use as a test subject.
Just place it in the insert upside-down and aim for the center ring (granted the wik surface may some draw oil underneath through capillary action).

Team NO SLEEP!
Polar Shift´s back in stock...better hurry, just bought one for myself :)
I had to look the Shift up, and I have questions.

I can't tell if this little box is going to be insanely functional, or if it is going to end up being more of a novelty. Are a lot of folks using it? I have not found any reviews on their website or on YouTube.

At only 3x3" I am not sure how user friendly it is, or if the working space on top of that deck will be too uncomfortably small. I don't see any type of controls for temp setting. Can one dial in variable temperatures, or is it simply hot/cold/off?

I dont have much space in my fridge for a colltection plate and the one i use warms up pretty fast
so i also need to be pretty fast with collecting..i hope to solve this problem with the Polar Shift.

Other thing is since i am using a Mini Nugsmasher i just have
small parchment pieces that will fit very well on the small Plate of the PS :)

As it seemingly works with a Peltier plate i guess u can only switch warm-cold-off :)

I got one. I think it is defective tho. It did not come with the magnets and it does not seem to shift temperatures and I have never heard the fan going. I need to put in a warranty request and see what D-nail will do for me. I can say the 3x3 footprint is really a small area to work with. I would be much happier with 5x5 or even 6x6.

Edit: There is no temp control. There is hot, off and cold. D-nail includes a chart for about what temperature the plates will be after 10 minutes with a certain set ambient temp (not sure but it was around typical room temp). Mine always seems too cold even with the heat on. I squish, collect and vape in my garage which is attached to the house but not tied into the HVAC system so it is pretty cold in there during the winter. Ambeint temp is usually 40F-65F depending on what it is outside. I have a small heater to help keep me warm when vaping and I find it has been more helpful in keeping from the rosin turning into instant shatter.
