I keep my material really far from the heater and start pulling faster as soon as I see the vapor starting to form. When the Milaana is cold I'll do a 3 or 4 second pre heat and start pulling slow. After it's warmed up you won't need much preheat.

Thanks @Cheesequake I get my WPA in a few days. I will try it just as you describe. Can't wait.

You could be packing material too close to the heater. You could be tamping down too hard. You could be too heavy on the trigger (pulsing is better than constantly pushed in). Could be any combination of the above as well.

thanks. Given that what I have from you is the rimmed RBT screens I don't think I don't have much option in how close the material is to the heater. but the other factors for sure. Still learning my way through

It indeed takes its time. I am still improving my technique. But it is well worth it. It only gets better and better... :)
(More about the cooling mouthpiece soon. I like it, but it turns the whole thing to another experience. I want to test it more extensively to make sure that my "judgement" is fair...)

When it comes to the rimmed screens it would be how much material is packed in the rimmed screen.

took your guys advice last night and tried to pack the rimmed screen looser than the night before. I ran 2 stems and didn't have any charring. Pretty even ABV throughout .

I tried the Samsung 30Q as opposed to the LG and noticed the unit run even cooler. I had to stay on the trigger longer and more often which was great from a cool vapor perspective but I struggled to get near the vapor produciton as compared to the LG. Both being fresh batteries.

That being said I was LIFTED. I could not believe the effects of some Holy Grail and 1 stem on the Milaana. My entire mouth was coated with goodness.

@MAbud I've found using my tophat screen and loosely packing using the straw/draw method or pouring from a doob tube with minimal finger tamping to a full load yields the best results on all my stems. But especially on the @DDave Cooling Wand. I get the most even roasting, and the biggest, coolest, tastiest clouds that way too. If I pack anything tighter I risk hot spots and combustion.

I've also taken to turning while pre-heating and even sometimes while I'm taking a really long draw. And I stir after the first draw that I notice a reduction in vapor cloud. Usually after 4 or 5 draws-turning frequently the entire time. I then usually get 2 really good draws and 2-3 okay draws after stirring. I also don't pre-heat much after the initial draw or the first draw after stirring. I find that pre-heating after the first draw with a full battery is an invitation for combustion on my Mi. YMMV. I think this is where things are really unique to each user. The battery/button/oven interface which is different for everyone because we're human and our draws and equipment vary widely as do our experiences. It's why to a certain extent those of us with Mi's have to find our own way to get the best experience-but that to me is what's best about the Mi-it's on you.

All that said; I can't accomplish that with smaller loads or loads further away from the heat source. But that's okay. I'm going to get a Dynavap with an adjustable titanium bowl to micro-dose with during the daytime and save my Mi for night time. It's going to be killer with some nice indica through the WPA I get in a day or two.

And I've learned all this from folks sharing their experiences on FC which is one way social media can be very cool. People with shared interests can ask "What if I ....?" and get intelligent (mostly:evil:) responses.

One question for the hive mind of FC. Does anyone here make, or know of someone who makes tophats with 1/2 the depth of the standard ones? With loosely packing my tophats I'm running at about .07g-.08g or so per load. That's not bad, it's under .10g, but I'd like to be able to get down into the .04g or .03g range if possible. It would just make the Mi more versatile.

Cheers all

There used to be the DDave micro kit option, it dropped the stem size down to 14mm and came with 14mm rimmed baskets. It's no longer supported though, still it might be an option if you have a 1 inch depth Milaana oven but I can't say for sure.
You could dismantle a vape oil pad and pack the 18mm out a bit, that would be an easy DIY option.

Thx @Cll4ud3 I just checked out @DDave site and it appears there are tophats that fit the bill-they look much shallower than the ones I bought of the same diameter on Amazon that I'm currently using. I'll confirm with him on the correct size and place an order. Thx.

Has anyone tried cutting down their roasting tube using the rope dipped in flammable fluid technique?

The only reason I ask is I stupidly broke a chunk of the top of mine whilst trying to clean it with a latte spoon and a cloth at work.

I was just wondering how well it works and how to finish it off when it does break off. If it turns out to be too hard I will just have to order one of these new cooling tubes that vapefiend (not that I need the vapour cooled in the long tube) has to offer as I'm in the uk and it seems pointless ordering accessories from America as I only use the long roasting tube. Hope that vapefiend gets some screens and long roasting tubes soon.

Didn’t try the wire method but I borrowed a dremel and shortened my mp. Cutting it was super easy as a first timer but unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to flame polishing it, just sanded it down so far
Edit- just occurred to me u might be inquiring about results. It’s a bit rough even after sanding, usable but have to be careful. Definitely flaming polishing is better, it’ll be rounded and smooth

Thanks almost there (I wish I knew how to use this and quote and stuff). I think I'm going to just buy the cooling one off vapefiend as it seems like a bit to much work for me at the moment. I might give it a go when I have time off work after Xmas

Check out mountain glass, shipping might not be so bad to you and they're super cheap, try a few colors, not exactly the same but they work well. I'm sure other shops would also be able to ship a long stem to you at a reasonable price if you look around... Good to get a few spares!

I cant read this and not recomend a wood stem... I got one from Alan 3inch long maple so it matches my Mi. I had to wait a bit for him to get round to making it and international shipping, but it has been so worth it as I now have an unbreakable stem I dont have to worry about ever being without a stem. It is liberating.

I got a cheap m2m adapter from Amazon to see how I'd like using a water pipe with my new Mi. I love it. The fits not great, but it works well enough for me to know this will be my preferred home method. So I just ordered a piece from @cannabis.pro that's made to fit the Mi. Very psyched about that because it's just going to improve an already great experience.

And I've found I can do a better job of micro-dosing with the Mi like this. Since for all practical purposes it's top loaded device with a WPA I've experimented with putting tiny doses in it. I've found the best load is to fill the top hat about 2/3rds, use a toothpick to flatten the load evenly, and then take a quick puff sans Mi. It draws it down to about the half-way mark. About .05g-.07g. (Which is why I'm getting a Ti tip Dynavap so I can .02g during the day; but I digress). I do a 4-5 sec preheat and hold the button down through most of a ten second draw. No preheat after that and I'm sensitive to taste and vapor build up in the bong. For today, so far I'm getting really nice evenly roasted ABV with a bit of bowl turning and one stir after about 3-4 pulls.

It took me longer to get the technique right using water; probably 15 stems over a couple of days, and I combusted 3 times. Fuck, that was NASTY. I can't believe I did that for 43 years. Truly-I was shocked, and dismayed. I cleaned everything out, and then gamely went on. I'm a musician I know that practice works.

So right at this moment. I'm sold on vaping with the Mi through water. Yes, I'm losing some taste, but really just some. My lips are covered in yumminess right now and I just did a stem + one draw. Even through water it's way more flavor than I ever got from my Pax or Alternate. And the clouds are enormous. I've got a couple of friends I'm trying to convert to vaping flower-they vape carts and concentrates but mostly combust flower-and I'm convinced that if I can get them to hit the Mi through water they'd never smoke again. I won't-not on purpose.

So tomorrow I'm going to get my Dynavap; an Omnivap with Cocobolo body and Ti tip. I enjoy change and learning a new device. And then early next week I'll get a WPA made for my Mi, and some new material to experiment with while I ready myself for my next concert.

It is shocking how dramatic the change is after you have been vaping exclusively for a while. Your experience of shock and surprise is being duplicated all over as folks make the move to vaping. It certainly is clear to me. I could NEVER go back. I actually turn down hits on jays, even in circumstances where they be the only option and I am not equipped. The one time lately I broke this rule it was disgusting and I won't do it again.

I like the Mi through water very much, but water does reduce taste, so I usually take one or two hits straight from the adapter first, and then connect it to the water piece. If it is not a tasty strain, however, I won't bother and will go straight to the water.

While I understand the unregulated battery and fingering the button aspects, I don't quite get what holds the bud in the glass stem. particularly if you're microdosing with the milaana. How is microdosing? How low can you go? Is the milaana a good choice for micro loads or is it too easy to overpower the convection? Do you end up with high frequency of combustion, hot air draws?

There just has to be enough that its warmed goodness makes it want to hug itself... er.. I mean...

Depends what you mean by microdose. A full basket screen is about .1g give or take so half a bowl is maybe .05g. Half a bowl will hold together nicely once warmed and that's pretty micro. It's microdosability is limited, however, by its 19mm joint.

Given that it’s on demand heating you can micro dose easily. You can always fill it a little more full, take a pull or two and come back to the same stem a few hours later. My two best micro dosing vapes are my Milaana and Omnivap

I will say so far that draws are a bit hotter than other vapes. But it hasn’t bothered me

I don't quite get what holds the bud in the glass stem.

The ground material is easily drawn into the stem via inhale. Then it is tamped down a bit with a finger to move any loose or hanging material into the stem. Normally I tamp just enough so that the excess gets pushed in far enough to create a small gap where there is exposed glass only. When you draw, you are pulling this material away from the heater, it caramelizes the trichs and you really don't have to worry about gravity pulling anything away with a proper tamp. From time to time, you might get a piece of flower or two in the bottom on the heater screen, just tap it out or if it is up against the edge, use the poking stick point to unhinge anything that might be stuck.

It gets easier the more you use it. You can move the screen on the basket screen setup closer or further away from the heater to manage microdoses to your liking. The rimmed screens that are now included don't give as much flexibility here but you don't have to fully fill those screens in order to microdose. They are easier to clean.

Hi folks...I just concluded a purchase with 420EDC for a Milaana and I have to say that Mark and 420EDC ( @cannabis.pro ) were simply wonderful to work with. Responsive to inquires, flexible in helping me put together a package that I needed, polite and to the point.

All was excellent and I hope that 420EDC continues to grow their product line and prosper.

Just a great transaction.

Cheers
