Sativas vs Indicas for your heart

cybrguy

We were discussing heart issues and heart rate in a Dynavap thread, and I figured it would be better to have that discussion in its own thread.

It has seemed to me that vaping reduces my heart rate, but as another user pointed out the family of plant may be a big factor in this. I realized that my provider usually provides Indica hybrids rather than Sativas, and that could well be influencing my heart rate as much or more than vaping over combusting or vaping generally. I don't get sativa dominant strains so can't really experiment with this.

What do you all think?

one must be aware of that most people are NOT trained cardiologist.
maybe there are some here but i would bet not many.

So I would like to say that everything you read may be taken with a grain of salt.

this thread derives from a section of the dynvap vapcap thread.
One user has decided to quit MJ because he had been under strict medical cardiologist therapy and the detected that MJ uses arrhythmia and a pulse of 180 bpm.
that is dangerous.

it can be linked to consumption of MJ.
I think MJ triggers something that triggers the tachycardia (fast heart rate).

Is it the THC that causes the faster heartbeat?
or is it the absence of CBD ?

I myself get very nervous when my heart skips a beat or elevates to much after vaping.

Is it personal stress due to set & setting ? Yes, MJ is a DRUG.

really would like to know what you know and or think.

I'll start with some background info for people that are not up to speed from the Dynavap thread.

I'm the guy having heart problems.... Not necessary caused by MJ, but definitely aggravated by it. The cardiologist confirms this, but i could see it happening myself on the heart monitor as i consumed, or within 5 minutes of consumption. Doesn't matter vaping or smoking, same thing happens.

My heart will jump from around 70bpm up to around 180bpm. My normal resting HR is 55-65 bpm. Lowest while wearing the monitor was 46bpm. Highest was 183bpm. The highest happened 4 minutes after vaping. The lowest was during sleep.

Even after days of no use my heart still jumps up and down. Sinus arrhythmia. With sinus tachycardia. But nowhere near as bad as when consuming cannabis.

I wore the heart, holter, monitor at home for a couple days. Kept logs of all activity. Went over results with cardiologist. Had multiple EKG tests performed in the hospital over the last couple weeks as well.

We are going to continue looking for the root cause of the problem. Neither me or the cardiologist believes marijuana is the root cause, but after testing we can't deny it makes things much worse.

I have consumed cannabis on and off for 20 years. At some points in my life going through as much as a quarter a day. MJ is not new to me. But these issues are.

Blood and urine test seem pretty normal. Electrolytes a bit off, but not by much. Electrolyte imbalance can cause heart problems... But the cardiologist doesn't believe mine are imbalanced enough for these symptoms.

Now in reply to this thread...

The main issue for me is I'm not in a legal state and have no access to indica or high cbd strains. I have one option at a time and it's 99.9% of the time sativa.

I have asked my only connect several times about getting indica strains but he gets what he prefers... Sativa.

I'm sure this plays a role in it. But until i figure out exactly what's going on and if it can be fixed i will be abstaining. I'm a husband and a father of 2 kids. Nothing is more important to me than being here for my family.

I think it will be very interesting to see if getting some Indica instead of the Sativa you have been getting would make a difference. I absolutely get that you are at the mercy of your supplier and can't control what you get, as I am in a similar boat. However, medical is available here (even tho I don't qualify) and I suspect I could get some dispensary goods if I had to. If there is no medical where you are you may well not be able to test out this theory and that sucks. I have little doubt, however, from what I have read that a nearly 100% sativa strain would be much more likely to effect your heart rate than a mostly indica strain. It might not be different enough to allow you to use it, but it should be noticeably different.

I dunno if this will help you, but I know you can order weed online through the dark web using Tor. I saw a report on Vice that made it seem like the easiest thing in the world to do and everybody seemed to be getting away with it just fine. As long as u buy from within the US, you don’t want it going through customs. I’ve looked around on there and you can order whatever you like, they got everything so finding decent indica’s should be a problem. (All I seem to get is indica when I buy from my guys.) Can’t comment past that tho, haven’t had the need nor guts to try ordering anything. As with all things purchased on the deep web, caveat emptor.

or grow your own if you have a small space for it.
I recommend looking into the CBD crew. they are reliable with their testing.
each of their strains contains a minimum of 4% CBD.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in posting. The hospital is not very quick on scheduling testing or informing me of the results.

I had an echocardiogram, and chest xrays of the heart that appeared normal. But due to the daily fast heart rate they have me taking beta blockers now.

During the xrays of my chest they seen what they believe is signs of COPD in my lungs. They are scheduling a pulmonary functions test to confirm.

I'm currently wearing a heart monitor for 30 days straight. They have noticed arrhythmia, sinus tachycardia, and PVCs.

But they are still not sure of the cause and why it started. The beta blockers do seem to control the symptoms that i notice... But also has me a bit tired feeling.

I have still been abstaining from marijuana for the time being. Until i can get my hands on some indica I'm not going to chance it.

@WoodVillain, google magnesium & your heart. Also many books on Amazon so read the reviews as there are tons of them. I developed a life style arrhythmia & tachycardia like you 2-1/2 years ago. Gave up coffee, watch salt, watch other caffeine consumption like chocolate & watch sugar. Haven't been able to quit cigs & don't want to give up pot. Just toke responsibly.

Anyway, back to the magnesium. Apparently when the body doesn't have enough magnesium it can cause or aggravate an existing arrhythmia. So I jumped on the band wagon & bought a good 'elemental' brand off Amazon (reviews, reviews & more reviews) & started taking 300mg. of elemental, chelated daily for 6 months, the max time it takes to replenish your body's supply if depleted. Then as my diet got better in incorporating magnesium, I dropped down to 1 pill instead of 2 a day. And it did make a noticeable difference. I still take 1 or 2 a day depending on my magnesium food intake, along w/ 100 mg. of Ubiquinol & 1000 or 2000IU of Vit. D depending on season. Check it out the magnesium. I also have metropolol (blood pressure med that will also slow heart rate) to take on an as needed basis if my heart rate or blood pressure increase from doing bad things -- so it nips it in the bud so-to-speak, no pun intended.

BTW, the magnesium I'm buying is magnesium bisglycinate chelate TRAACS. It's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, form. The brand is NaturaLife Labs. Amazon.

Be sure to keep us updated! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Metropolol is the same beta blocker they prescribed me. Though my blood pressure has never been high. I take a low dose for heart rate. 12.5mg twice a day. Makes me feel tired but i don't notice the arrhythmia. I hate taking pills... But i guess for now it's needed.

The first thing we suspected was electrolyte imbalance... But all seem to be in range. Including magnesium. Ref range for magnesium is 1.7-2.5 according to this lab. Mine was 2.2 mg/dl on 11/16. Phosphate was the only thing high, and only very slightly. Less than 1 point. I have all results here at home with me.

Im also cutting down on caffeine, sugar and salt. Though, easier said than done lol. And I'm down from a pack a day of cigarettes to 2-3 cigs a day.. The hardest thing to quit yet.

I will indeed read up more on magnesium, and keep you all updated.

I see the cardiologist again on December 7th. Another EKG, they might do another echo as well, then discuss the results from the heart monitor, and go from there.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts!! I miss my vaping... Hopefully Florida hurries up and becomes a recreational state so i can get my hands on some indica... But I'm not holding my breath.

Hey guys this is interresting. earlier this year , around summer time. I had some weird heart rate patterns aswell, like i would be sitting down chilling and then all off a sudden it would just go from 0>100 just like that instantly after that it would stay on the high heart rate for a couple of minutes, afterwards it would just return to "normal",

It sorta went away on its own witch im glad it did (felt very very scary), i took 1 week as a complete vegan, and then i ate a little healthier afterwards aswell. dunno if that did anything.

I was thinking that it might be kind of a warning sign from my body telling me to make some changes, being that im only 23 my body shouldnt be in total decay just yet lol. (living a some what unhealthy life style)

I did start smoking around 14 yo and first got on the vape train when i was 22, so i guess the smoke would have had its time to take its toll on my respiratory system in someway.

I mean even if its sound pretty fucked, if i ever have kids and they start smoking weed around 14 years old and i really cant make them stop, then im going to supply them with organic weed and a volcano so they atleast dont harm them self with it. damn.

I think it is totally strain related. I have a bubba kush which is a hybrid. They say Indica hybrid. But damn as of lately that shit increases my heart rate and raises anxiety for a good hour. Lol.

Thats strange, Sativas are harder to grow, compared to indicas. And most people like the couch lock feeling I not one of them. That is why dealers like Indica or indica hybrids because it makes people more relaxed. Just remember Sativa is a stimulant . Think of it a very srong coffee. So it is known to induce arythmia.

It's a really good thread. Unfortunately, it has been forgotten. And no strains were talked about.

I've just received my ECG results. I'm at 100bpm (tahycardia) with a bonus, an incomplete right bundle block. 10 years of consumption.

Actually I want to try a CBD dominant strain. Something like 1:2 or even 1:3. I tried to mix my C99 with some CBD strains, and I found that when I do a 50/50 mix, I'm getting my heart rate raising up and getting some sort of anxiety from nowhere, instantly.

Did someone found any good strain for this condition?

100 bpm while lying down & resting and still searching for strains?
Cannabis may not be the reason of that but for sure the solution is not cannabis.

Sativa's rush is just sympatetic stimulation, but 23 times less than cocaine.
If you stress with it, never try cocaine XD

But mixing with cbd give even more stress ? That's weird...

And till u got your pericarditis, go easy with thc rush...

I think there's something behind thc, or it was a trigger to something underlying. It has been like ~5+ years that I experience all this shit like anxiety, PA and heart racing. I even switched to a healthy diet, sports 3 years ago, and microdosing, but it didn't help as much..
So now, I can't even enjoy any little vape sesh in the evening, nor my growing hobby. I'm upset, really.. Need to change my habits, unfortunately.

I guess the stoner paranoia and common anecdotal links with anxiety and fear of confrontation come from a real physical symptom csused by some combination of the cannabinoid spectrum. Strains with a certain profile might be a lot worse for bringing on anxiety than others.
All these breeders desperately crossing different strains trying for high thc might not be making particularly good medicine. Even a CBD strain that is 50/50 might have other cannabinoids that trigger you.
Maybe CBD oil taken orally and find a nice old strain that hasn't been bred to death?
