Has anyone tried to modify a torch lighter to get an easier trigger?

The arthritis in my thumbs is getting worse.
I know that the triggers on the igniters are made difficult purposely to prevent children from using them.

The ignition breaks on all the torches I've had, cheap to expensive... My solution, which could apply here, is use the 'keep gas locked on' slider switch a lot of them have, and a previously lit candle to light the torch with.

Its a massive roundabout way to fix the problem but it was still cheaper than endlessly replacing otherwise perfectly usable torches and I ended up preferring it to the ignition clickers.

Have you tried this style?
I'm a fan of this style:

Just ordered another here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230997039678

It's a triple (heats quickly/evenly), reasonably priced, relatively plain design, solid feel, fuel window, and cap flips open with ignition slider (slider style is more comfortable than button IMO).

Take a look at candle lighters or BBQ lighters. It will at least let you use a different digit.

I find that the flint jet lighters are very easy on the thumb. I use these cylindrical flint jet lighters. They are cheap and I've had no issues with them.

To use you push the gas button up and roll the flint wheel under you thumb. Very little pressure is needed and it can be accomplished using other fingers. Once lit, you don't have to hold anything down. When you're done, push the gas button down.

The downside is that it stays lit until you shut it off. So, if you dropped it while lit, it will keep burning until the gas button is shut off.
