iHeat 510 Heater Cartridge

iHeat also does not have mica, who knows what else is involved (I still don't think actual temp is necessary, if power is adjustable, just arbitrary numbers for most convection vapes I've used)

It's not about temperature accuracy on the screen, it's about temperature consistency during use. Personally, I have many 510 atomizers and the ones that only work in power mode sit in a drawer.

Yes, temperature control works, this is a game changer. And apparently you don't even need TCR support, the standard TC/SS316 profile seems to work fine out of the box (at least on the Evic Primo Mini)

I guess my Laisimo L1 won't work in Tc with this? I thought Tc and Tcr was the same thing its just a Tc one, It does say SS but no 316. I clearly don't keep up with this mod stuff properly, So what would be a good Tcr mod with user replaceable batteries for this one?

It might work actually. Depends what kind of SS curve they use. I think historically when it was not precised it was SS304 but could be SS316 or SS316L too. Anyway there's a lot of difference even between brands of SS wires so it doesn't matter.

You might not get the correct temperature on screen but as long there is a given temperature range where it regulates and where you don't combust it's ok.

At first (and in order to test the product fully) I solely used the iHeat in VW mode, to see how it compares to other non-regulated and semi-regulated on-demand devices. And it was quite good already. Of course if you can make TC work it's even better but it's not a necessity.

TCR is just the term they coin when you can customize the coefficient used. Basic TC mods only have presets. But see, @Alan is using the Witcher which I also own now, and it doesn't have TCR, just SS TC and according to him it works. I'm sorry I postponed testing this setup as I was still evaluating the evic Primo Mini (and I can now confirm that the stock TC is crap with pulsing and overshoots, like my VTC mini was before I switched to 3rd party firmware)

To all readers: don't feel afraid, once setup, and it's really once for good, there's nothing complicated with the iHeat, no zillions of parameters etc. It's actually very simple to use, you just set your temperature and more or less forget (I'm saying that because yes, I'm still not convinced that TC based on resistance change is anywhere optimal for convection, but that's another debate, and I go in @Shit Snacks direction here with his remark that it's "just a number", even if that's a simplification)

Maybe the iheat thread can be closed in the plug-in section to avoid confusion. At least my confusion.

No no, there's two options: either you only get the iHeat attachment, for portable use. Or you get the full package which is iHeat + a plug-in base that has the same regulation as the Zion (but runs on the mains)

When you get the full package it's just a matter of moving the attachment to your mod box and back to the base (although doing it too much might lead to some reliability issues on the long run so I would advise getting a 510 extender in order to preserve the iHeat base station)

I just think @Alan could have be a bit more explicit when he split the two threads but it's the same product with or without a power adapter.

In theory nothing prevents us from building 3rd party base stations that would offer real TC for instance...

Thanks. I have the tubo which I think includes a mod box but don't have a separate box.
Otherwise I don't understand much of this but someone will help me make sense of it when I get my iheat. I think I'm a half to a third down the waiting list.

A few remarks while I have them in mind:

- This vape is not perfect, but it's one step closer to my definition of the perfect portable vape. It's already close to becoming my number one daily driver when away from home during the day, and quite possibly evening and night out.

- Would it compete with my Zions at home when plugged to the power adapter base and using a longer stem? Well, it would be hard to beat the magic Ryan managed to infuse in the Zion, it's really one of a kind. But that's a question I'm starting to ask myself.

- Yes, temperature control works, this is a game changer. And apparently you don't even need TCR support, the standard TC/SS316 profile seems to work fine out of the box (at least on the Evic Primo Mini)

- Bamboo is not the wood smell I prefer, but it has clearly interesting characteristics.

- The Primo Mini is okish but the stock TC implementation is as crappy as in all Joyetech range. I'll probably switch it to ArticFox soon.

- The Witcher is a good surprise, a bit heavy but side by side designs (SBS) are the way to go with these long attachments. Inside the Witcher the iHeat passes like a regular size RDA with just a slightly longer than usual wide bore drip tip (using ecig jargon here, I just mean that when you palm it, it's super stealthy) Haven't tested TC implementation yet, only VW mode.

- In VW mode, the iHeat is comparable to a Milaana on steroids, that's the first thing that comes to mind. Effortless vapor under 5 seconds, but with great power comes great responsibility. You can center char the load easily if your technique is not spot on, like the Milaana, MistVape Touch or Firewood. But you get power regulation like in the Zion, so the battery level and decreasing power is not a parameter you need to take into account anymore. I used it between 22w and 25W in this mode and it was very enjoyable and battery life was fantastic, twice as much as the Milaana almost.

- In TC mode, it's comparable to the Project but in 18mm large free flowing form (the Project Pure SF is 14mm and the Eraser and OG slightly more) But you can feel that there's a high surface area heater at play: less "sucking hot air" effect and more inertia (you can continue riding the heat wave down after releasing the trigger)

I have so many other things to say, but this is by no means my definitive review of this much promising vape. I would be happy nonetheless to answer any question you might have.

Thanks so much for the remarks. I'm glad to hear it fits into your Witcher box. It is on the heavy side, but only about an ounce more than the Milaana. It seems to have a very sturdy construction. I'm not sure it has enough power to operate the iHeat in TC mode. I didn't have any luck. Maybe there are some other setting that need to be changed. I am using an Atmos Kiln RA on my Witcher at the moment (which makes it even more stealthy), but I will have to play with the iHeat in TC mode again.
I have not tried using mine as low as 22w yet. I bet the flavor is really good. The long battery life is so nice. They last longer when less heat is wasted.
It seems to me that TC/TCR mode is helpful for wattages above a certain value for which your normal inhale rate cannot maintain an equalibrium temperature. In power mode at 34 watts, I can easily extract all of the heat energy from the heater with a strong draw so there is no chance of combustion. If I draw too slowly, the heat energy will stack up and could cause combustion. TC mode will prevent the heat energy from getting to high if the draw speed is to low.
As long as the draw speed is appropriate for the wattage level, then TC/TCR mode isn't really necessary.
I have noticed the sound of the air going into heater when it is on is similar to what you hear when blowing into a fire. The sound quiets down after the heater cools off and you are still inhaling.

@oddjobold - My guess is the increased conductivity between the wires and the heater is the reason why it works in TC/TCR mode.

@Vapor Loop - I don't have a list of mod boxes on which it will work with TC/TCR mode. May have to take a heater cartridge into a local vape shop to see which ones will work.

@little maggie - Sorry about the confusion. The Insta Heat is a unique device. Looking forward to making something for you when I get to your name on the list. May have a better idea of most compatible mod boxes by then.

I have an alien box mod I already use, do I'm looking forward to testing this puppy out. I will probably use it in vw mode, that's how I use my ecigs. The alien does have tc mode, but I've never bothered with it myself.

I'm trying to save up for a move to California, though. So I need to take purchases slow. Especially since I just got back from a trip to Cali.

TC was slow to catch-up in the e-cig world because it was at first only a mean to avoid dry-hits and cotton burning. But now that the research articles are coming and proved bad pyrolysis by-products are produced past certain temperatures, the interest towards temperature regulation is rising. You definitely should look into it.

As for dry herb attachments, it's a must really. If you have the choice, don't hesitate a single second, it's so much laid-back and easier to use. No need to time the trigger or count mentally, no need to be perfectly focus as to not miss a single beat etc.

Just finished a batch of all wood iHeat bodies. They are shown with my prototype spalted maple Mi-Log unit for size comparison. Each is 25mm in diameter and 2.25" tall.
The woods from left to right starting in the front row are:
Cocobolo, Briar burl, Black wood, Bocote, Purple heart, Maple burl
Mesquite burl, Bocote, White oak, Lead wood, Bocote
Maple burl, White oak, Maple burl, Maple burl

Now I need to finish the heater coils so they can be assembled. I purchased a magnifying visor which made cutting the stainless steel mesh much easier and less stressful.

Mine is third from the left on the front row, blackwood!

Even if my VAS is pretty cured, this incoming iHeat will be the cherry on the cake!

I hope mine is the far right front row that one looks amazing, But there are three other ones same wood so who knows, Then again I just wanna run away with all of them.:nod:

I just gotta get my E-nail flowerpot set up and I may be good for while after this one...... I think maybe a Haze square If any other portables.

I love Alan's woodwork. Every one I pick out from the picture turns out to be bocote. When my name comes up on the list I'm ready with the wood I want. Except for the box. I'm glad that will be resolved by the time I show up on the list.

I recently found a 12mm glass tube that fits perfectly into my 18mm WonG tubes without the need for a silicone sleeve. The air flow is really good and the air path after the screen is all glass. The wood will stay much cleaner using the glass tube. A 10mm basket screen will also fit inside the glass tube for roasting smaller amounts.

I have a FP too and am on the wait list for this aswell. Once I have this my almost cured VAS, thanks to the insane FP, should finally be cured. Although the Haze Square has got me interested aswell so it seems we both have the same great taste in vapes!

I am the proud new owner of a bocote iHeat and I could not be any happier. I am a few bowls in with this beast and all I can say is WOW. The flavor is absolutely incredible. I am using the glass stems and although I find the diameter a little too big for my mouth (lol,) the performance is amazing. I find myself taking a huge rip and then peeking at the bowl to see that it is still perfectly green! Voodoo.

I am a long time convection vaper since the early Vaporbrothers days and I have tried a LOT of devices but I have somehow never crossed paths with anything designed by either Alan or Ryan@RBT! I've been on the fence with the Milaana forever since I prefer regulated devices... But I am very happy that I waited for something more suited to my tastes!

I am running this slender beauty on an old stainless Cuboid with ArcticFox and a 15s cutoff timer. So far I've had the best luck with plain ol' VW mode at 33-40 W. I haven't experimented much with settings but I did try a 1 or 2 second preheat at 125% and it didn't seem to make a big difference. I do find that waiting 1-3 seconds after trigger to start your draw does have a major impact on performance, though.... More experimentation to do!

I need to find a mod that looks half as good as the iHeat but I don't think I stand a chance.... I really want a triple 18650 for an around-the-house vape... Idk.

Thanks to @Alan for sending me this beauty. It will get a lot of use! I do have one question - should I be concerned about the wood wanting to spin a little bit on the base when I thread it onto a mod? That won't cause any damage over time, will it? I can put it on a heatsink or something but it's so pretty without :)

Thanks!!!!!

Glad that it arrived safely and you have been enjoying it. That is the range of wattage I enjoy too. A few second delay on inhaling after pushing the button does give you bigger clouds.

The 510 deck is pressed into the wood body and held in place with the silicone o-rings that came with the 510 deck. This means that the iHeat 510 cartridge is completely rebuildable and it is possible that the wood can be moved slightly on the 510 deck. There will be no affect on the function or performance.
I haven't found that the cartridge gets hot enough to need a heatsink.

The price for a maple wood iHeat 510 cartridge w/o a roasting tube is $100. The cost will be a bit more for other woods depending upon the type. I'm still about 18 months behind or so on accepting orders. It will help if I quit coming up with new devices/options.

Maybe after the Holidays, you could ask Santa if you could hire his elves since you sure as heck need help. This will save us taxpayers some green as the elves won't need to go on seasonal unemployment. :)

I'll pm you to get on the list, but since I have 18 months to wait, I'm won't commit to a wood type yet. I'll wait for member pics.
