What kind of glass does everybody think pairs well with the UD? I'm not necessarily new to glass, but stopped using it ( I break everything!) and feel comfortable using it now. I got a d020, and its cool, but the UD is pretty close to the face and I'm not really in love with it. My beaker is a beaker so just wanted peoples opinions on what you think is best. Oh affordable would be ideal.

Dhgate is still the best place for affordable glass.

SunshineStore or StevenLMZ79 are my preferred sellers.

I have a number of pieces, and they move through rotation on my Instagram account (link in the signature).

I got this knockoff mobius stereo matrix for ~$50 which i received i think i about 2 weeks-ish. decent build and works great, has a few aesthetic flaws and the cuts in the aren't flame polished but really just nit picky.

and to avoid it being right in your face, i paired it with this 45 degree angle adapter which gives enough clearance between the UD and the body of the piece/your face for $11. personally, i find it easier to meet the UD to the bowl at a 45 degree angle with a water piece than a straight 90 degree angle.

My UD can also effortlessly white wall this piece too. This whole combo is my daily driver and any guests i have over love it too. provides a solid wow factor and for a pretty low price. i'm honestly not even afraid if it breaks because for the price i'd replace it in a heartbeat.

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian brethren and sistren! Everything's closed here and it's raining steadily, so it's a good day to gently toast oneself and get some laundry and vacuuming done.

My original UD extension cord finally started getting intermittently flaky after 11 months of daily use, so I'm having to adjust my logs' voltages to find their baseline settings with a new cord. I've found the sweet spot for my zebrawood laminate SC2, but standard-core Mr Walnut is taking a bit more finessing. It's actually an enjoyable process for this kind of day. Having a toot here and there, bumping up a tenth of a volt, trying again next time I pass by the Underdogs...

I really appreciate how the extension cord provides a ~$5 point of failure, versus having to get a whole new power setup. Not to mention that it's a widely-available part you can get from UD, Amazon...heck, one of the dollar stores nearby even has some 3-4' ones.

too tired to rly be here but writing in anyways.

i must be extension cords' enemy #1--i've already broken the extension cord that came with my new UD. i think i'm on my third? for my econodog.. how can i keep these things alive longer?? am i just unknowingly brutal?

also, sadly must report i've noticed that the heating element in my mom's air core is loose and wobbling a bit. is this something i can fix easily myself? or should it be sent in for repair? the poor thing is so beat up too... i suspect the 4 legged dogs have tripped on the cord & knocked it around. someone also seems to have gotten dab on it...

that leads me to this.. do people personalise their logs? with stickers or paint or anything? i'm an artist & i've always drawn on my stuff haha. my econodog has some heat scarring that might look prettier with some designs painted on or something.. beautifying some of the other log's scars could be rly nice too. or is this total sacrilege??? :ninja:

thanks as always fc :peace:

What's your setup like? I've seen people attach dimmers and VVPSes at the dog end, which seems like it would add a lot of strain/bending during use.

I mean for me that's sacrilege, but even then (I won't tell people what to do with their things), I'd wonder about the heat any decals/paint would be subjected to, and whether they would offgas anything gross.

I would not decorate my dog in any way. I would not want to cover up the great work of the UD folks. Just personal preference.

The extension cords are sort of intended to be sacrificial I believe - since they are cheap and easily replaced.

If you have a wobbly heating element, you should definitely send it in to @underdog - he will get you fixed up!

Please don't paint your log vape or put stickers on it! It gets very hot. Wood burning maybe...

@CurryLeafTreehugger I recently picked up a Tiger Maple SC2 and have found that 10.7 to 11.0 is about right.

11 through water, and 10.7 or 10.8 if using a stem.

I've been running it at about 10.4 to 10.6. Herb here in the High Sierra Desert is pretty darn dry. I also discovered it doesn't work outside AT ALL in cool windy fall weather, LOL!

We don't have them anymore but you can get the right angle extension cords on ebay and other places.. here's one from there: 6' right angle DC extension 2.1mm x 5.5mm

I don't do ebay since they deleted all the account information from my account so I no longer know what I paid for some semi-precious stones I bought from several different suppliers (I was a goldsmith before I became disabled). When I finally got them to let me into my account again - lost password, no longer had the original e-mail address it was opened with - they had deleted all my old information. So I don't do ebay any more at all.

Does anybody know where I can get a right angle adapter of the proper size so my new dog will stop falling over? Even just setting it flat on the table it can't stand up straight because the cord pushes it over. I don't really need an extension cord per se but I would use one if I had to. I just can't seem to find one of the proper size.

I actually have one of the right angle cords you used to sell but its for the Econo Dog and that's a different size, right? Plus - packed in some box god knows where. I'm unlikely to find it any time soon.

Yeah the old Econo-Dogs used a 2.5mm cord while the normal ones are 2.1mm

If you don't need a long one then you can get them on Amazon here: https://smile.amazon.com/JacobsParts-Adapter-Extension-Security-Electronics/dp/B00QJCU580

If you do need a longer one then I'll see what I can dig up, lots of the longer ones seem to be out of stock at a lot of places.

That'll do. I swear I searched Amazon looking for the right size plug and didn't come up with a thing that was both right angle AND would carry enough amperage.

Thanks.

So I've decided to get an Underdog for my next vape and I've got the money for it now. I know what stems I want.

Unfortunately, I missed the birthday sale... anyone have any idea when the next sale will be? Black Friday maybe?

Should I wait for the next sale or just get a Puprleheart for $175? The birthday sale was for $130 which was quite a bit cheaper, but it didn't come with the VVPS which costs $20... so I suppose the birthday sale price wasn't all that much lower.

I love the wood look, but I'm a lot more concerned with function over fashion. I'm not really looking to spend extra to get a nicer look wood... just looking for the cheapest underdog as long as it functions well.

The purplehearts say "This is a Lost Dog because Purpleheart has a big tendency to crack. Please note this may be a very hot running vape, and may require use of its included VVPS, or other voltage dimming device."

Is this anything to be concerned about? I don't care if the vape cracks as long as it doesn't affect performance. I also don't think I would mind it running a bit hot because it comes with the VVPS and I like to vape at higher temps to get bigger clouds. Or is it worth spending an extra $25 or $30 for another lost dog that just has some minor cosmetic damage, but the Mk2 core, and without the issues that the purplehearts seem to have?

Note, I live in Toronto, Canada so I have to deal with the crap exchange rate and shipping costs. Anyone know if there are customs fees on top of that?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

The vape that was at 130 was an older model with an older style core. I got mine on the bday sale and it was a honey locust with the newest fore which was at 169+shipping, but I live in California. I believe the purplehearts will always be the cheapest option, and if you aren't concern with the cosmetic warning then that's your best choice. The only difference between the sc1 and sc2 IMO is that the sc1 might take a little longer to heat up, performance is the same. As long as the heater doesn't wobble, you're good and if something happens, @underdog got you covered.

I have found the new Standard Core Mark 2 to be significantly different from the air core. Personally I much prefer the Mark 2. It is a smoother experience and runs at significantly lower voltage (I use a lab style VVPS). You do need a VVPS with the Mark 2 or it will run far too hot at normal voltage out of the wall.

I would recommend a heavier duty UD, eg one with thicker walls. I find them more substantial and they hold heat better when they have thicker walls. My first dog was an Econo Dog and that was a skinny one, then my 2nd was a thicker version. When it died early due to charring, it was replaced by my 3rd UD which is a skinny one. The thicker ones are more stable as well with less of a tendency to fall over due to the stiffness of the power cord.

If it were me, I would save a bit more money and pass on the Purpleheart UDs. I'd stick with something less likely to crack.

Also the heating element is set more or less deeply on some of the UDs. I have one that is VERY shallow and I JUST NOW burned myself on it reaching for it. I'd suggest asking for one that is more deeply set. Granted I am probably amongst the least dexterous and most accident prone on this forum - but let's face it, we're not exactly at our most alert midway into a session anyway.

Good thing you said amongst.

Snapped femur from standing. 2nd° and 3rd° burns from taking a bath. That's last year.

This year: Three broken toes since June, without even using them.

Last and least, I drop everything.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it might be worth it to spend an extra $25 and get one of the ones with the new core. Though I probably wouldn't spend any more than that. I think I'll wait a month and see what kind of black friday sales they have. And while I don't really care about the colour of the wood, I'm not really a huge fan of the purple.

I've got a VapCap M & OG to keep me going for another couple months (and a MFLB).

Also got a Matrix Sidecar (14.4 mm) on the way from dhgate. Should be a bit of an upgrade from the cheap banger hanger I currently have.

But in a couple months I'll be rocking the UD with the matrix sidecar and that should be a nice upgrade over my VapCap + banger hanger.

I did manage to adjust the screen on my VapCap OG so that the bowl is really small. That's working out well for getting a big hit without using much bud. But I'm hearing that the UD takes efficiency to the next level.

Since we're in a state of flux while we decide how/where to set up our next shop space we probably won't have another sale until the Holiday Sale in December.

The Purpleheart Lost Dogs are a great value and most of them aren't cracked and probably won't but like the description says it's so prone to it that I just decided to list them all as Lost Dogs so buyers wouldn't be surprised/disappointed if it happened. They do have the SC1 core which takes a few more minutes to heat up fully vs the SC2 that is now standard but most don't consider it a huge deal. They do run quite hot (as do pretty much all our current vapes) so will need to be used with the included Travel VVPS or another voltage/current reducing device. Oh, and to answer your question the cracking (if it happens) is cosmetic and not something that breaks the vape or anything.. not structural. :2c:

Alternatively I think we have a couple Figured Walnut Specials left from the sale and Underdogette could probably set you up with one of those for maybe $10 more than the Purpleheart if you wanted. They have the SC2 core, also run hot and also come with the Travel VVPS. No cracking concerns there.

Hope this helps! If you want more info just send Underdogette a message and she'll get you sorted out.

Thanks for the reply and letting me know that there may not be another sale for a while. Probably boxing day at the latest?

I may take you up on that Figured Walnut special if that's still available. All the figured walnut ones are listed between $225 - $235 on the website right now. If I could grab one for $185, I think I'll pull the trigger. They are beautiful looking vapes.

No problem, happy to help. The sale in Dec usually runs from the beginning of the month (ish) to the end (unless inventory runs out).

I'm sure Underdogette has a few of the Figured Walnut specials left so just send her a message if you want to grab one. They are super beautiful that's for sure.
