Tell me your experience switching from combustion

Just trying to get some reassurance cuz I've used my new Solo II (my first vape) three times so far and have yet to feel high. What am I doing wrong? OF already told me I just need to give it more time, but I wanna hear everyone else's opinions/experiences.

The Solo and Solo II are some of the best vapes for any vapist and especially someone new to vaping. So your choice for a starter vape is spot on.

Unless you're doing something completely wrong you should be feeling "something". Some folks new to vaping may not feel like they are getting as high as they did when they combusted and that will take vape time/use to resolve itself. But again...you should be feeling something.

Lets start with the basics....
- How good is the flower your vaping?
- What temp are you using? Maybe try 390F as a starting point for a newly filled stem. It's a little higher temp wise than I might start with for the Solo but it's a good starting point to try and figure this out. Alternatively you also try max temp as suggested by @invertedisdead.
- How long are you allowing for a heat soak of the herb? Depending on the herb it can help to wait 2 minutes after reaching temp before taking the first draw with a conduction vape like the Solo.
- Are you seeing any vapor when you exhale and if so how much?
- How many hits are you taking per session?

the first time i vaped i got buzzed like i had not remembered being buzzed since i was a teenager lol and that was with a mflb lol .

crank that solo all the way up , grind the the bud fine , fill a full bowl dont pack it much though , if at all . take slow long draws like a full session till the thing shuts down on its own or no more vapor comes out . if that dont work for you you must have a layer of tar a quarter inch thick in your lungs from smoking lol or you are confusing an oxygen deprivation effect for a canabiniod effect

I started at max temp (428F). Giving it an extra 30 seconds to a minute to heat soak after reaching temp. There's plenty of vapor for the first few hits then it gets wispy. Couldn't even give you an estimate on how many hits I took, though.

EDIT: Oh and it's high grade stuff. One bowl combusting it gets me wrecked.

If you're getting "at least" 4 to 5 good cloudy hits and not feeling anything with top shelf weed we need to delve deeper.....

Are you holding it in long enough and re-breathing on exhale? I have a friend who used to vape like he smoked by inhaling and just letting it out almost immediately without holding it in. Many vapists will hold the initial inhale for a bit and on exhale, once they see the vapor coming out strong, will re-inhale and hold that same hit again. Sometimes doing the re-inhale 3 times or more per draw.

Do you smoke cigarettes or other tar inducing products? Vaporization can be hindered by tar inducing products but even then you should feel something if you're getting 4 to 5 good cloudy hits with decent herb.

Are you grinding the herb to something between coffee grounds and rice pellets?

Never smoked cigarettes. Just got a solid 5 hits out of a stem.

Didja hold it in for a bit? Feeling anything?

If you're not feeling anything....the only other thing I could suggest would be to send me your herb so I can test it with my Solo :brow:;):D:rofl:

The only other thing i can think of if its still not working for you is to make sure your not ripping on it like you might with a bong . you have to inhale at a speed that wont overwhelm the heat .

Just keep trying and maybe if you can stop smoking for a few days and only vape maybe it will just hit you suddenly that man im stoned lol . you could seriously be used to the chocking blast so to speek , from the lack of oxygen and lung full of carbonmonxcide or dioxide which ever it is . and maybe its just not the same intensity from that.
If you get what i mean ?

Slow and steady draw gets the most out of your draw with the Solo. I usually draw for about 15 to 20 seconds and hold the draw in for a few seconds. Hitting the higher temps will be similar to smoking. Later down the line you probably won't need that high of heat that you are using in the beginning.
A 48 hour T break couldn't hurt - that would work to lower your tolerance to a better level.

Your tolerance could be sky high.

Don't cheat and combust during this transition time.

I was a cannabis smoker since the late 1970s.

I quit combustion 5 years ago this December. I found FC and with the help of the community here, I fucked combustion. It took me two to three weeks and I was over the hump, I used the Vapir No 2 portable and I used a high heat to remind me of the smoking feel. I didn't have a feeling that I wanted to go back to smoking. It doesn't appeal to me at all anymore.

You will find that your cannabis bill will come down because smoking cannabis you end up using more because most gets burnt up and turned to ash before you get to use it.

And yes I can get pretty high and so will you. Give it some time. It will get better. Come back to this thread in a couple weeks after just strictly vaporizing and give us your thoughts and feelings.

Edit
After stopping the smoking I could taste food better and I didn't smell like stinky smoke. My sense of smell got better too. I don't get sick as often either.

You can use the ABV (if it's not black) to make butter and oil, so nothing goes to waste.

We wish you good luck and stay the course.

YAY! Great news @djm !!

You'll find it easier to get "gone" going forward and that you will use half or less what it used to take when you com-busted.

Try and be careful with the tolerance aspect. 3 full stems of top shelf is way more than you really need unless your tolerance is already off the charts. If your tolerance is that high a t-beak as @CarolKing suggested may be in order. If your tolerance isn't off the charts....a steady diet of 3 stems back to back per session may make it so.

Maybe your flower is a mid-level grade and not top shelf and that may have been setting your expectations a bit lofty. Top shelf for me would only require 3 com-busted one hits or 4 good vape hits. You mentioned doing a full com-busted bowl. Depending on bowl size that may mean either the bowl is small or the herb may not be killer or your tolerance is a bit strong.

Took me three months of solid vaping for it to properly kick in, now I get higher than ever before. It can take a while to transition with some folks it seems.

Switched with DIY hot-glass style vapes. Most simply, these consisted of a glass joint over a soldering iron's ceramic heating element. A glass adapter, fitted with a screen, served as water-pipe bowl. With the joint in the adapter, air was drawn over the heating element and into the flowers.

Most of these were vastly overpowered for this application (but could be dialed back accurately). Frequently achieved ignition early on, and later, ABV looked like coffee crystals. This gradual transition was relatively painless, except for the burns and shocks, of course.

In the beginning the thing we noticed was the high was more clear and not so silly stoned feeling, more head focused. We also discovered that vaping at around 355F gave a real intense sativa like rush, then when that same herb is revaped in the evening at max temps 410F, you get a real good body high and sedation.

You could also round it out and make a firecracker out of the ABV and see if that little bit more in edible form gets you where you need.

I also tend to think that the ceiling is higher using a vaporizer. I can vape myself to the point where I can be ill. Smoking at some point just seems to put me to sleep and no more elevation. :2c:

One thing to take into consideration is how easy it is to vaporize in a public location and nobody even realizes. The Solo fits conveniently in a drink cup. Something like a McDonalds cup or from some convient fast food restaurant. The straight stem pokes through the plastic lid. Poke holes in the bottom of the cup for ventilation and you have stealth.:brow::science:

That used to be my go to vape while walking on the beach. I've posted pictures here with my drink cup with the Solo hidden inside. It works great as long as you aren't too close to people. The wind is generally blowing at the ocean so the vape clouds don't stick around.;)

Hi, a great way to get acclimated to vaping is to focus on your ECS ( endocannabinoid system).. the homeostasis mechanism of the ECS works via EFAs and PUFAs ( essential fatty acids/ poly unsaturated fatty acids) gained from our diet... to be exact, omega three to six ratios determine which endocannabinoids can be synthesized and without continual ingestion of those Fats from diet our ECS lacks building blocks to form the intracellular signalling molecules known as cannabinoids that maintain cellular health...

Adding decarboxylated phyto-cannabinoids ( extracellular oxygenated forms of these signalling molecules) via vaporizing to your biology allows the ECS to have plenty of metabolic signalling structures http://www.bionity.com/en/encyclopedia/Lipid_signaling.html for maintaining the cells and functioning of the ECS http://www.bionity.com/en/encyclopedia/Cannabinoid_receptor.html

Also, cannabimimetics like whole black peppercorn can help metabolic activity in the ECS by augmenting how the cannabinoids respond to the receptor sites... whole black peppercorns have beta caryophyllene in them and that terpene stalls metabolism via it's reverse agonist effect on cb receptors and it is a weak antagonist of cb1... that means beta caryophyllene stalls effects ( comedown) from thc and cbd by slowing the rate of metabolism..So, just chew on one or two whole black ppepercorns before you vaporize... this bio-augments thc later... you will notice a huge difference though
Beta-caryophyllene is a dietary cannabinoid

Trying 355 now

EDIT: still nothing.

The Solo never really produced much goodness for me under 374F (Level 3). My sweat spot has always been 383F (Level 4) and up. I used my Solo experience when testing the Solo II and found it to be about the same.

The less I load in my Solo 2, the better it vapes. I put in just more than a pinch (.06-.07 gram) and tamp it a bit. With a small load the draw is pretty open and I was used to the Crafty draw when I got the Solo 2.

With .06 gram I get two draws at 165c (flavor but no vapor), then step to 170c and three more draws with flavor, then 175c and four draws with some vapor some flavor, then 5 draws at 180c good vapor, then 5 draws at 185c (365f) still with vapor but flavor gone. So 20 draws over 10-12 minutes and I am pretty happy.

Same load in the Crafty and I get maybe 6-7 draws. With the Crafty I am taking deep wide open draws. With the Solo 2 I am more relaxed its more like sipping through an open straw.

Since I like low temp vaping my ABV has lots of goodies. After grinding fine with a coffee grinder, I stir some into peanut butter or almond butter and then spread it on a toasted waffle. Waste not, want not.

look into lecithin... lecithin is used as an emulsifier in products and helps blend different solutions effectively.. lecithin also increases potency and binding activity of thc and mixes it better with the edible. I use sunflower lecithin not Soy
