Discontinued Ghost MV1

How are other MV1 users handling this use case issue:

I use my MV1 and finish a crucible, but I still need to be more medicated.

I want to empty and reload the crucible immediately but it is too hot to touch.

How do I deal with this issue?

Depends how hot it is/how quickly you want to reload. I usually take two good pulls with the vape turned off. It'll still be fairly hot after that. If I want to reload quickly, I'll pop it open and blow on the crucible while it's in the slot. That'll usually do the job. If I have time, though, I'll just leave it open on my desk (with the mouthpiece pushed down and the vape placed far away from my stoned ass, of course).

I open the unit and then stand it on the desk for a few minutes, as @AtMyVakeSale sometimes does. Doesn't take that long and I'm not in THAT big of a hurry. Hopefully, your second crucible is already full and waiting before the hot one cools.

Can someone explain how this app is going to change the airflow dynamics to prevent the tunneling effect down the center of the crucible?

I just can't understand how one can create more even vaporizing without changing the airflow. How can a software change help?

I guess the only thing it can do is to keep temp under charring temps by lessening fluctuations which would avoid black spots, but wont help with the uneven vaporization.. you will still gets spots just different colors like green, yellow :)).
As for the herb crucible, reloading issue ,maybe they should attach the lid screen to the top piece of silicon and every time you open it you can dump it easily without having to touch hot metal.

In a properly functioning unit (like mine, luckily), the tunneling is not a concern.

That wouldn't be an acceptable option for me as I now wipe the sticky film off the top & bottom of lid after each crucible use so no hole clogging.

A lot of the things are working as intended. Like the hot crucibles (which even blowing takes away from the portability). Hole clogging, Frequent cleaning. These things aren't considered things that are wrong with the vape that I know of. If you're waiting for these things to change, you're better off getting something else.

Tonight, with a freshly cleaned mv1, I decided to focus on flavor.

It’s good. It doesn’t have the intense first hit flavor of the GH (at which point the flavor is gone) or the overall long lasting flavor of the Firewood but it is my second favorite (that one good hit from the GH isn’t enough) behind the Firewood. So, it’s 2nd among 12 or so vapes I’ve tried.

It’s hard to say this without feeling like I need a tin foil hat but we’re all friends here:

What I observed tonight was that the flavor degrades somewhat quickly (4 good draws) but it seems to follow a different arc after that. It takes a very circuitous path toward popcorn but doesn’t quite go that far. The flavor remains pretty good longer than the other vapes I’ve tried and that flavor remains interesting almost all the way.

As a point of reference, those 4 draws were 3 at A1 and 1 at A2. Each draw was Crafty slow/hard for about 10 seconds.

If your decoder ring helps you parse this crap, bully for you!

My hope is that the software offers a way to back off on the Pink Floyd light show this thing produces while active. Use this thing in a theater (not my thing) and you’ll probably get your ass kicked.

Mine doesn't actually get that hot. Besides my more portable mods, likes pax2 gets just as hot or even hotter. I can't reload quick enough. I actually reload the MV1 much quicker!

When I actually vape it, my fingers cover the light show, it's not even visible. I just got of the haptic feedback vibration to know when it's ready. That feature is actually epic and glad they put it in! And not just rely on the lights!
I think after the software update, it will reset the whole device and we will find the flavour to be more intense and actually help with the heating process.
These updates, can alter anything, the whole electronics or just a minimal software issue it's down to the devs to sort that out.
It has happened to me before where I've bought something that had major flaws but once updates came it was better than it should have been. For example I bought the Kyosho Drone racer and out the box it was just a failure. Contacted Kyosho and a app was out within a month (long wait yes but they promised much more features).
Once it arrived- they did not lie! They added many more functions and it actually worked.
I think it will be the same in this case also, yes it's not a Drone but I think it's all doable.
For the ppl asking, how it will create a better vape, it's all to do with the vape it self and the heating aspect which the app can dial in to and set to user preference. Right now everything is preset and will not be up to parr as everyone is noticing.
I'll be much patiently waiting for this app and I'm sure it will fix all the issues and then some!
I did try getting in to the beta testing but I got the email too late and missed the list :(
Shame as I would have loved to try it asap!

Yea sorry everybody, I obviously didn't expect there to be so many malfunctioning units out there, I'm very bummed about it. I tested about a dozen different units before launch that worked correctly, so I didn't see it coming.

And please with the personal digs, you know I wouldn't endorse a vape that behaves like this normally.

If you're not having an amazing experience with it something is wrong with your unit, plain and simple. When it works right there's nothing to complain about in the performance department.

The reason the overheating can be fixed is that in units that are running hot the heating element doesn't seem to be using the right algorithm, to me it seems like it's heating with the concentrate algorithm which is higher bursts of heat for longer periods of time, not meant for vaping herb.

When it's functioning properly you should get 95%+ even AVB on every setting except maybe 5, the highest heat level for herb, it can be like 75% even there sometimes. All of these pictures you guys posted of charred herb are burning my soul.

I don't know the exact reasons for the malfunctions otherwise I would have shared it with you already, all I know is that they're actively working on fixes for these issues and they started testing of the app with end users.

I have a handful of malfunctioning units in my possession and once I'm able to fix them all and get them back to default working order I will share that info with you.

If you have a unit that's not working right and you don't want to wait for a fix please send me a PM and I'll buy your unit from you as long as you didn't destroy it.

Sorry again guys, wish it never happened, doing my best to make it right.

For me the flavor is quite good, but first hit vs first hit I think the Vapcap or FF2 offers superior flavor.

As for using it in the movies i'd be more worried about the heater noise.

Maybe I just have good ears but the buzz is quite loud and in that annoyingly high pitched range.

I heard others mentioning that they don't really hear the noise after awhile; I don't think this will ever be the case for me, If I was at the movies and I had to keep hearing that squealy noise I'd be pretty annoyed.

It's pretty good in terms of smelliness though, I don't notice much smell at all coming from the still loaded vape after finishing a crucible.

Fair point on the sound. I wasn’t paying attention but tonight I did. It would be too loud for a theater. Having said that, it’s quieter than the torch for my Vapman, so it’s safer for my situation.

Agreed on the funk factor. This thing contains odor well. I had a Pax2 for a while and it had a 4 foot sphere of funk around it while dirty. It had to go. The mv1 gives off much less smell, even with a fresh load. I was jonesing for an IQ but I just read that the IQ is similar in smell aura to the Pax2. Vas over.

Ok, so I'm going to weigh in on the subject that was brought up about Ghost having screwed the pooch on the launch.

Disclosure - I have an MV-1, it does not have the firmware update that the app provides (to someone who asked how an app can change the vapes behavior...it cannot, but it does provide the ability to download updated firmware that indeed does control the vape's behavior) and I'm not on the beta team due to conflicting personal commitments at this time. My MV-1 is one of the ones that works pretty dang good on a newly charged battery. Really well, in fact, but when they issue the final firmware I expect to also benefit from some improvement in performance.

So, I agree that the launch was not handled right in a couple of areas. Yes, it was released prematurely. Yes, I strongly suspect that what they touted as 'beta' testing was more just demo's at Slightly Stoopid concerts and apparently they gave some units to the band's roadies. But no, this was not an adequate beta test and we are seeing that proved out now as issues are being identified, root causes nailed down, and fixes being put in place in the firmware. This definitely should have been done before they made it generally available (GA, yeah?).

BUT, I also remember many posters on a number of boards whining like kids who can't hold their water over every delay from dates that Ghost actually never published. I have no interest in cross referencing people who clamored constantly for this vape to be released with those who are now clamoring for their head for having a premature release (he, he, he....no, not that kind LOL). I don't care and I'm not trying to make this an interpersonal debate.

But I remember seeing the posts.....much of it was frankly embarrassing to me as a fellow member.

So, IMO Ghost's biggest mistake was giving into that pressure to release. They would have been better off taking Haze's approach to the Square....go silent, run a beta, when its all done, then publicize the vape's release.

Along with that, any development program manager who has ever run a product development life cycle gate model will tell you that it ain't GA until EVERYTHING is in place....spares, accessories, CS and CS training, publications and tech data (in this case, a real owner's manual and not just a quick start guide), and of course the app which is required to provide certain functions of the vape.

Yes, they made mistakes, but many members of the same community that is criticizing them for an premature product release were also holding a fire to their feet to get it out.

That's just the way I remember it.

Cheers all

I was going to reply to a post quite a while back saying how apps need to be approved to be listed on the market places (even if free).
They have to comply with t&c's, and for most developers there's no way to know when it will actually be approved and available.
It can take weeks after submission.

I never considered they didn't actually have an app.
I think that is ridiculous, as is every ghost owner expecting miraculous performance boosts from a yet to be written code?
It might take a good while before they can deliver it, and it should be simple enough, but to deliver on fixing every little concern about the vape...?

Classic case of bitten off more than they can chew.
Talking up the app as their golden solution will lead to at least some disappointment.

To me it seems Ghost fucked up, not only by launching a device with tolerance issues (mouthpiece, some silicone parts) but with untested firmware and a non-existent way to update it.

I'm interested in when that finally arrives, and how they're going to recalibrate all these units with just an app.
For sure they can flash the firmware, but how they expect to calibrate anything is beyond me.

To me, the whole buy back program and lack of an app doesn't reflect well, and not just on the release.

This is a premium option, but no matter how much I squint I just don't see it.

I hope for the owners sake that the app really makes the difference needed.

Sorry, mate...not sure what you are referring to here. There is an app and its with the beta team.

Its not the app that's going to change function and performance...its the new firmware revision (not created from scratch, yeah....a revision) that will do that but the app is the delivery mechanism for field upgrade of the firmware.

Now this is just me personally, and as far as I can tell you should really NOT give a flying fuck what I have to say....but to me I think the negativity of your post above goes beyond the established facts as of today and its somewhat erroneous...and I'm no fan boy and I'm definitely a critical observer for the most part.

Cheers

I guess there might nearly be one now, but it doesn't sound like there was much when I was going to write that first paragraph a month or whenever ago in the old thread.
It won't be available for a while if it's only in beta testing now.

I realise they are intending to change the function by flashing the firmware, what I wonder is how they expect that to succesfully fix uneven ABV.
I install firmware and calibrate electrical devices at work. It requires rigs, software and equipment.

I recently took apart my Sub controller and there is I/O for commissioning the PCB.
Same on the Grasshopper.
These things get physically plugged in, loaded with a firmware version with a UPA serial programmer and then calibrated with software.

That's quite an involved app to cover it all, and I wonder how it will function.

Perhaps there's nothing miscalibrated and they can just tweak values universally... It is going to be difficult for these guys to do what they've claimed, and I'm hoping they can. A revision to firmware is complicated, and they've already proven they have difficulties doing it.

I don't mean to be negative, but it seems to me that Ghost have been out of touch with how much users are expecting (many have mentioned different things they're expecting ranging from improved airflow to better efficiency - I'd believe the latter at least).

Here's to hoping

@Baron23 & @MoltenTiger, you both make solid points, but can't we give it a rest? Or post to the ghost speculation thread for those interested in resurrecting all this?:horse: All I see is that @VCBud makes a nice post & it opens the door to once again regurgitating what has been discussed ad nauseam. :puke: One can surmise, critique, analyze, hypothesize, philosophize, whatever, but in the end, it doesn't matter a hill of beans as we are where we are & that's it.

I say: For those who have non-functional units, put it on the shelf & wait for the app or invoke the buy-back now. For those whose units are semi-functional, use it, enjoy what you can of it & wait for the app. For those who have fully functional units, well, you're very lucky.

I'm w/ @Vaporcussion, "Until the app arrives, I think we should just tell jokes here."
