Discontinued Ghost MV1

Hi all, read through most of this forum and I’d like to add my thoughts.

I received an MV1 (black chrome) in the 1st batch and I had various issues:
  • Uneven vaporisation
  • Scratchy mouthpiece
  • Heat sink element that mouthpiece slides into not staying in place
  • Charred material after use (almost exactly 50/50 black and green undervaped)
  • Silicone piece that heatsink slots into was not fitted correctly
I logged my issues with Ghost and Bud and once I spoke to Ghost and showed them the issues they sent a replacement.

Got my replacement yesterday and I noticed an improvement in the mouthpiece/heat sink build - the heatsink stays in place better when pulling out the mouthpiece.

But I noticed that the latch on my replacement model was stiff, this was not an issue I had with original model. After a couple of uses the latch just would not budge, I spent almost an hour trying to get it open before seeing a video saying that if you stick your nail in the left hand side of the latch piece and pull from there it will release, so I was only able to get it open like that.

I could also see that the uneven vaporisation was still happening and a lot of my material was under vaped.

Now I have 2 faulty units, both with uneven vaporisation but with different build issues.
From what I have seen so far from using the 2 devices the MV1 does not get close to my Crafty in terms of efficiency and ease of use.

I would also add that a friend of mine got the silver MV1, and he has had none of these issues and is happy with the performance of the device.

I would just like to get a proper working model in my hands but this has left me very disappointed and I am losing faith rapidly.

so the "company" - which is a stretch to call it that, takes reservations on vapes because they don't have the ability to produce them and they want us to pay to produce them as they go, and many of us (I know three other people on the list) waited too long for our not too highly coveted reservation to purchase
meanwhile, they have plenty of vapes to send out as replacements (yours is also the third replacement story I have heard) and the rest of us (who now lost all VAS for this) who waited now get to ponder why we put up with these things....
Bud - maybe go back to making videos about other people vapes? you sure dug that Airvape XS, lol.....

@thx1138, since they are a start-up, my assumption is that they took reservations so that they would know how many units to produce in their 1st production run, and, also, 1) to identify the members of VL forum as these people were slated to be the 1st ones to receive the vape &, furthermore, 2) these members were to receive free or 1/2 price battery chargers so they would have to know how many chargers would need to be mfr'd. So as not to send out anymore vapes with problems, they have ceased sending out any new units until these units have the new firmware update. The ones who received replacement units were experiencing severe, unusuable problems & the replacement units they rec'd. do not have the update so the replacements were still hit or miss. All this seems logical to me. So look on the upside: by waiting, you'll know if the firmware update is successful &, if so, you'll get the updated vape & will have been spared any issues. Now, I leave it to you to ponder as to why you put up with these things. I know why I have. ;)

@chiefkm, gently take out the silicone & re-seat it, as the point on the silicone shown on the left side needs to seated into the groove, same as shown on the right side. You may notice that the left side of the silicone is slightly thinner & may not have been as well molded as the right side. Me & 2 other purchasers have given a shout out to ghostvapes on the VL forum concerning this & are waiting for reply.

Your picture below came at a perfect time for a tip I wanted to share:

I only noticed several days ago that after vaping a bowl, the crucible lid develops a light, transparent, gummy film either on the bottom or both the top & bottom. I'm sure this is the terpenes sticking to the metal. The moister my herb, the more gummy, & with repeated use without removing this film, it builds up to the point of clogging the holes. As I didn't initially realize this is what was happening, I thought it was just dry herb clogging the holes. So now, after I dump the spent load, I run my thumb over both sides of the lid to remove the film. Since I've been doing this, the holes don't clog up w/ the sticky substance; though, if my herb is real moist, 1 or 2 holes will, inevitably, get clogged. Problem solved.

With all due respect, allow me to disagree.
I have no issues with vapelife forum, but it is not even close to what FC stands for and how big this place is.
If they need to be anywhere, for our sake and theirs - its this place.
This place is so much more.

Thanks for your respect...recall at the time of Ghost starting and going through things with Bud...Bud was banned from this forum. It was not until recently that he had some help to reinstate an account here.

Also, I am not saying VL forum is bigger, more appropriate, or more important, so I think you missed my point. np

So you as a so called "poster"......seemed to be filled with so much hate?

First can you explain how they didn't have money to produce the vapes, but they could do so with reservations....and not with prepaid orders? I just cant seem to figure that logic out...

You had to wait too long for your highly coveted reservation to purchase..... WOW first world problems....your life must be in incredible stress from this. (sorry I had to go there).

Then you state that they DID have enough vapes to send out.....cause they replaced some units....I guess you have to make a decision on your own logic there about Ghosts production and when they put out the cash to produce them.

No one made you or anyone else purchase this vape (if you actually did)....and there is a 100% buy back guarantee if you are not satisfied.....I see you never point that out...hummm

I wont touch your last comment.....it speaks volumes of your bias.

mod note: Your comments to @thx1138 are phrased in a way that is quite close to breaking our Be Nice rule, and in fact provoked a response that earned him a warning point. If you cannot make your point without maintaining respect, please do not post. Further comments using this tone will result in a warning point.

Apparently the beta app is coming out in batches and not to all beta testers at once which is actually retarded. Usually you send it to all beta testers so you can fix any bugs more quickly and efficiently. In addition, I honestly fail to see how it takes this long to release an app of this nature. If Ghost did have pre-production units working as advertised, I'm pretty damn certain they saved whatever was programmed on them as an earlier version because if they did not, they have failed programming 101. I honestly fail to see what the difficulty is when porting over the pre-production units software. Even if level 4 and 5 aren't unlocked, at least release the pre-production units software so most people who are having issues will have it resolved which in theory (all according to Ghost's words) should work.

Yesterday, I re-stocked but did not have an opportunity to grind. Pinched sticky slabs off of a bud and dropped it into the crucible. It worked just fine. There were two mini-nugs in the bowl and both were a nice crispy choco-brown when I was finished (amber settings only). This works great in the GH but I wasn't sure how well it would work in the Ghost.

Good to hear! I have not experimented yet with whole or partial flowers in the load. I will have to give this a go later tonight.

While I have been pointed to many places when I've asked the question, I still haven't seen anything in writing. Best answer I've gotten is I should contact "Bud" as it does not apply to everyone.

Where can I find this guarantee?

It has been mentioned multiple times as has the comments saying it has been extended to a week after the app "drops".

The Ghost website has a warranty against defects. It includes a (standard) exclusion to any other warranties. (In a way that would specifically exclude "improper product selection".) You can read the rest here:

...........................................................................................................
Can you get any pics of your friend's MV1's ABV??
For me, that's my prime concern. Will it produce evenly roasted ABV?
Just my opinion, but I have trouble thinking any fixes will correct uneven ABV.
Mechanical/build issue--yes, but ABV is more airflow. Will corrections change basic airflow??

I'm waiting to see about ABV

EDIT-- looking at a promo video, they state something like, "the temp stays constant and never ever changes".
?? I think even with the best desktops with big power , the temp changes on big hits. Their claim causes me to ..pause... ??? The change may only be 5-10 degrees but it changes.
Anyone else with thoughts on this???

But it's not Bud's vaporizer, him being banned from this forum has nothing to do with Ghost Vapes offering customer service here on FC.

Ghost claims the software update will fix airflow! IMO that remains to be seen...

Bud is working directly with Ghost (as an advisor I believe) to bring the vape to market....he is directly involved with the company.

This works OK, but my preference is for a coarse or medium-coarse grind.

It wouldn't surprised me if other issues have arisen that are going to be addressed in the firmware update. As far as the beta testing rollout, I can only guess (&, yes, I am guessing) that if the 1st beta testers encounter new probs as a result of, or the issues they are trying to address are still not resolved with, the firmware, they, then, can address them before they send out the firmware to the next set of beta testers so the confusion between issues & the compounding of issues is reduced or alleviated. I concur w/ you that maybe it would have been better if they just released the pre-production units software in a timely manner. But it is, what it is.

Sorry for the off-topic,but ..
Тhere are vaporizers that offer PID control and try to make it up for the temp drop during a hit like the Glass Symphony X . From the portables the closest thing you will get to that is iHeat,Pipe's project and the TUBO series, they offer control in TCR which is kind of calculating the temp based on the resistance fluctuations. The tubo has a custom developed software which allows this function to work even better than with the project ,but i may be wrong on that claim, cause i've never actually tried the project . For example the harder i draw on the TUBO, the more watts it needs to keep things stable, i will have to measure one of these days with a probe what is the exact temps in the bowl, cause what's shown is really the temperature of the heating element .
-------------------------
The app Ghost have coming should stabilize temps and have a positive impact on battery life.. but from my experience with the TUBO it actually eats more battery life that way in cases when you draw like the vacuum cleaner..
Maybe they have something in mind like the ECOLEVEL.
Ecolevel is a function in the TUBO software that helps you save on battery life. It keeps heating element prewarmed at certain temp (there are 4 eco levels).Somehow the maker made to detect draw and it jumps to the set temp at the very moment you start to draw..
For example if you set it 175 C it keeps coils at 135 C and when you start a hit - the heating element has to cover only 40 C difference compared to 150 C when from cold in on demand.

Bud - maybe go back to making videos about other people vapes? you sure dug that Airvape XS, lol.....

Please show respect for other members. If you feel it necessary to tell @VCBud what he should and shouldn't do, use a PM.

Bud was banned from this forum. It was not until recently that he had some help to reinstate an account here.

@VCBud was originally not permitted to join FC because his reviews included affiliate links, not because of any misbehaviour on his part. We later allowed some reviewers who also use affiliate links to participate under certain conditions. Until recently, Bud did not ask us to reconsider his membership.

But it's not Bud's vaporizer, him being banned from this forum has nothing to do with Ghost Vapes offering customer service here on FC.

FC is not meant to be used for customer service for any company. It is a bad idea for both FC and the company. Of course there will be instances where the first contact occurs here, but it expected that the actual handling of customer service is redirected to the proper channel, usually through the company's website.

I was rightly corrected for breaking the not nice rules and I apologize to the forum as a whole.

edit-
hey! I pulled the comment so that it wouldn't bother anyone, thought that would be better than leaving it there (?) no (?)

so back to the vapes...

Is there a different word you want me to use to describe the interaction that takes place daily on this forum between members and manufacturers?

guys this vape is in beta still. If you have reservations about sending your vape in to get a replacement or because it may not work correctly, maybe you would be happier with a much less expensive covection vape instead because this vape is def beta riggt now.

i went through a lot of crucibles before i decided i did want to mess w crucibles lol.

I think your definition of customer service is broader than I intended. The aspect of customer service I referred to is the reporting and handling of problems, not the exchange of information that I think you mean. We encourage companies to engage in that sort of customer service, but some people inevitably think that reporting a problem by posting it here should be adequate to obtain service. That's not how it should work.

@thx1138, FC Rules: "Forum moderators may leave notes on posts to remind members of forum rules. Do not edit, remove, or impersonate these modnotes. Do not edit a post after a modnote has been added."

For the record, @thx1138 notified me of his action and considering why he did it, I decided not to restore the original post. The correct way to handle this is to report his edit, by the way. If you meant to give @thx1138 a friendly warning, then a PM would be the way to do it.

How are other MV1 users handling this use case issue:

I use my MV1 and finish a crucible, but I still need to be more medicated.

I want to empty and reload the crucible immediately but it is too hot to touch.

How do I deal with this issue?

Open and blow a few times right onto the crucible. It makes it way more manageable:tup:
