Does a pen vape actually vaporize?

I currently have a log vape. I use it because it’s better on my throat with fewer harmful stuff getting inhaled, and with less heat.

Is a pen vape or these prefilled cartridge vapes (if you find a cartridge that’s uncut) as healthy as my log? Do they truly vaporize like why I’m used to with an e-Nano? Do they get as hot as a bowl or joint?

Thanks!

Hey,

Glad you like your log vape.

For the most part, the prefilled cartridges can be considered safe, as they are supposedly lab tested for residual solvents/contaminants. This is not guaranteed though, so always do your own research before buying anything. It is certainly safer than just vaping a random nug which you have no idea where it came from/how it was grown though. So... it's all a matter of perspective I suppose.

Referring to your topic question.... there are so many different pens these days... Lets start with wax pens:

Basically the two main types of wax pens are:
First, either a coil or pancake that heats up and cooks your wax. These will vaporize/burn your wax when directly added in, small bits at a time. There are also some fancier versions that will hold a lot of wax and slowly release it into the coil: https://www.vapornation.com/persei-vaporizer.html (A lot of folks seem to either love or hate this design though, mainly due to the super tight draw restriction.)

The second main type of wax pen would be a tank style. This would mean you are thinning your extract with PG/VG/PEG, terpenes or a CO2 extraction so that the viscosity is such that your tank can wick it up. Be warned that there is some hesitation in using these thinning agents, in regards to how it can impact health:

On to Dry Herb pens:
Mostly... no. A lot of these options just have a coil that heats up and combusts your herb. I.e. The Megatoke.

There is the Grasshopper though. This little fellah is powered by a minituarised heater which is 3d printed. It is capable of achieving the same power as most desktop units but in a convenient pen-like form. There is a lot of hate for this device regarding it's reliability though. (https://www.grasshoppervape.com/)

There is also a neat project in development called "The Splinter," by RastaBuddhaTao:http://www.rastabuddhatao.net/projects/splinter
This is supposed to be a dry herb atomizer that you can screw into any 510 threaded mod box (what powers atomizers that most vape pens use). Looks intriguing to say the least, but this may or may not come out this year, and it is tentative imo if this will come out next year either.

So things are developing on the dry-herb front, but not quite there in penlike form.

Well.. hope I helped, and didn't confuse more. That's my little overview of pens at the moment.

I tried a few vape pens that had dry herb and concentrate options. They were very hot on the throat and danced a tight line with combustion. I consider them the worst vape choice. This was a few years ago, so maybe they've improved, but I have the best vape now so my interest in pen development is not really there.

Now I only use Vapcaps. The size of a cigarette, super efficient and capable of producing smooth cool vapor with no combustion. Handles bud, concentrates and hash with ease.

My wife won't let me use a FLAME!
VAPORIZER ONLY

This is cheap and low income.
Taste better than JOINT!

CERAMIC material will work on a atomizer.
PEN are unregulated usually.

MOD with digital display to adjust temp.
Better and super cheap!

The Vapcaps can be heated in a number of ways. Those that don't like handling a lighter can heat the Vapcap with @Pipes Induction Heaters. There are three models to choose from, soon to be four, running off an electrical out and/or rechargeable batteries. They all work the same in that you simply insert the Vapcap into a glass tube, press down and when you hear the click, remove and toke. Induction heaters are fantastic!

Very, very civilized.

We smoke 6 or more joints (zig zags) before bong's.

I have plug's all around me!

A V-CAP taste better than a desk top?

Do you have EMPIRICAL evidence to back your statement?

Not a cyborg-slap just want to know?

I have $1000's of vaporizer's?
How much $ R U paid?
My wife is 5'9" 110 pound & very strong.
She said no flames.
UN-CIVILIZED she said?
Do I change her?
Or vape with electricity?

I haven't compared the Vapcap to any desktop. I was just pointing out that the Vapcap is not flame dependant and can be heated with the electric/battery powered Induction Heater. No flames.

But, the Vapcap is a very good, efficient, high quality vaporizer and miles better than a pen vaporizer IMHO.

Not a penny.

I think you should vape using the method you are most comfortable with. Never, never attempt to change your wife, would be my advice....

Your a good guy @Squiby !

I just wanted clarification?

The Desk-Top verses portables I did sometime ago.

The PLUG-IN units seem to work better to me?
We grew plants with no seeds in the 70's and made HYBRID'S.

ZIG ZAG'S were what we had.

So when a claim is made give me evidence?

My wife I'll keep since she bought me 30 gram's of CANNABIS + 2 gram's of ROSIN.

Your'e a great guy so please don't misunderstand me!

Your wife sounds like a good woman. Just like her, I'm female too. :)

I remember my Zig Zag days from decades ago. I still have some tucked away somewhere, but I don't use them anymore. Vaping all the way for me. Combustion, never again.

I live in rural Canada in the forest with the wild animals where the power goes out here and there. I try not to rely on electricity. I want to be able to vape when the lights go out so the Vapcap is the best vape for me. I always look for solutions that work off grid.

I have a wife I met in PARIS, FRANCE who doesn't consume CANNABIS. (WINE MOSTLY)
I grew up in CALIFORNIA when we had no sidewalk's at the beach.
Smoking pot was socially accepted with in the SURF TRIBES.
ZIG ZAGS were are thing before RASTA and BonG's.
2012 I finally tried water path and love it.
Small mouthpieces I prefer however it's mostly large one's are available.

A VCAP would be cool to use or try but I would have to hide it in the garden.
My wife buy's me CANNABIS and ROSIN (lot's of it) so I vape now. (she like's it better for me)
I was a grower early in life and again a year or 2 back?
CANNABIS is getting cheaper & cheaper now?
I quit growing because it's so cheap.
Even CONCENTRATES {kief; Rosin; Shatter} I quit making. CHEAP now?

I want to live in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA or HAWAII off the grid but my wife like's our location?

My family lives in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA along the SEA.
So I stuck here.
Not bad really?

At least it's somewhat CIVILIZED!
I use MOD'S instead of pens.
Temp ADJUSTMENT is pretty nice.
There CHEAP NOW!

My first 'proper' vaporiser was an Atmos Boss. A low end pen style vape that was actually ok. No combustion and high draw resistance. Reasonably cool vapor although not a hard hitter. It would not compare to a log vape though. I'm not really reccomending the Atmos Boss however it is a pen style vape that doesn't combust and isn't harsh (maybe because it's not so powerful).

I do find a flaw on a lot of portables in my opinion is the short vapor path and hot vapor (I'm thinking Grasshopper and Boundles CFX here). I found the Atmos Vicod a bit harsh too (got this after the Boss). I got a Mighty and never used the Boss or Vicod again. More recently got some Vapecaps and use them all the time. Personally I don't think I'd look at pen vapes again unless there's something amazing that would compare with the Vapecap.

I use the liberty amigo v9 tanks, they hold 0.5ml but you can find 1.0ml on ebay. Works great with a thick distillate with my own terps added in. I have one of those warm-up 510 batteries and get solid rips with the middle voltage setting (I think 3.4v?) Very simple to use, fill it to the marked line, put the atomizer back in the tank, refill when empty and continue.

How much mileage are you getting out of the V9's? It seems like I get around 4 ml of this CO2 oil from Colorado Cannabis Co. normally at 3.3V.

Have never experienced a leak, but they do clog from time to time.

I was on my 6th or 7th fill of 0.5ml before it started tasting like it needed to be cleaned, but to be fair, I had been using distillate and terpenes only prior to using unfiltered flower rosin. I was running it at 3.8V mostly (middle voltage setting on the preheat battery)
