Is it possible vaporising will never get me as high?

Here's the bulletpoints:
  • I used to smoke spliffs made of dry herb and tobacco. I don't smoke tobacco on its own nor do I like it.
  • I moved to an allergy-friendly, smoke-free apartment complex, so I bought the Plenty, made by the same people who made the Volcano, because I don't like walking a mile to smoke spliffs outside.
  • I got used to the lack of tobacco headrush very quickly, as well as the softer feeling in the throat from vaping. That part is fine.
  • However I feel like I need like 3x the dry herb with the Plenty to feel the same results as the spliffs gave me! I do get high, but it takes much more herb and it doesn't last nearly as long. I certainly don't feel I could white-out from one session as I can from one spliff.
I wonder whether it's maybe the tobacco, or if maybe my settings on the Plenty aren't correct? I set it to 5 or so, such that the needle is in the green area. Since it's just me and it's all very expensive where I live (small town in remote country), I'd like if a gram would last me more than one day, as it does with the spliffs.

It won't help to tell me things like "Get a better plug" or "Move to Colorado."

The Plenty requires... plenty of material. You should get another vape. Especially if you think you can go without the tobacco rush (as that's something many converted users miss at first, that plus the oxygen deprivation)

I would recommend the MistVape Touch, Milaana, Firewood 4, Tubo Evic, the Project... all these on-demand convection vapes give me the effects the closest to a joint and require little material to get you there and in record time please!

You also can take a few quick hits and set them aside to get back to them later, without getting the taste spoiled too much (something you can't do with session conduction vapes)

Ah one last thing: vapor inhalation technique. It's not like smoke, for some reason it doesn't stick to the lungs as much. You could try the re-inhalation technique, it helps maximize the intake and thus the efficiency of your material. Instead of exhaling as fast as you can, hold the hit a bit, then slowly start to exhale through your nostrils, but just exhale a fraction of the hit and re-inhale through your nostrils. Rinse and repeat a few times until it's all diluted with fresh air.

Keep in mind that unlike smoke, everything that's in this lovely vapor is good and useful, there's very little waste and practically no nasty stuff. So you want to get as much of it into your blood stream as possible.

Kerozen beat me to it ,but i wanna add that there is a period of adaptation between smoke and vaping.
When you are smoking a huge part of what you are inhaling is not psychoactive/medicinal but consistent of irritatatives (i dont know if there is such word ). So your body reacts to smoke like something that chokes it and irritates it,that's why it tries to purge your system out of it asap When you start to vaporize your body still has smoking habbits + the essential oils in vapor are known to make mucus, tar, phlegm be purged out ,which also might have negative effect on overall absorption .
Human lungs have surface equal to a tennis field ,you can check it out if you like, and all that surface is covered with very sensible matter, which had gotten jammed in tar from the combustion times, give it some time ,things will adjust the way they should . I would suggest even having a t-break ,and have some aromatherapy with various teas and essential oils ,if given enough time you will get to appreciate even the tiniest cloud of vapor. There are some folks here that use 1-2 grams a month via the microdosing techniques, there is a thread somewhere in this forum it is worth checking out.
-------------------------
My favorite herbs which i consider beneficial to respiratory systems are White Sage(best of all) ,Mint and Damiana ,they give some clouds and a very pleasant to vape.
As for teas there a numerous beneficial herbs like thyme, camomile, eucalyptus, juniper berries etc ..

On the contrary, it is smoking which will never get you as high, as over 30% of the cannabinoids are destroyed via combustion and pyrolysis degradation byproducts.

Keep in mind smoking involves a 1000 degree cherry hot ember, as you transition to enjoying the actual psychoactive effects of THC, you will probably want to run your vaporizer as hot as possible. This will most closely replicate the smoking experience until your body begins purging stored toxins, and acclimating to the vapor effects.

Thanks for this info! I'd just like to clarify that another vape isn't an option right now. I researched for a few weeks before buying the Plenty, nobody mentioned anything about the amount to put it (only that you should put the liquid pad on top of the dry herbs if you don't fill it entirely - nothing like "BTW, you won't get as high trying to vape 0,25g in the Plenty as you will in other vapes") and I can't afford to go buying another now. I don't mind being patient for a couple weeks if it means my body will acclimatise though :)

I live so remotely that I don't get a choice in strain at all. I've never been given names or anything. That's small-town Scandinavia for you!

Everyone who has advice, please keep it coming, it's very helpful! And thanks for not giving the shitty advice that Reddit gives like "Lol just put more/magically acquire concentrates from somewhere/tell your plug he's shitty and somehow hope that won't make him want to not deal with you anymore."

Get a more efficient vape!

Glibness aside, I gave up on vaporising when it first started becoming a thing (back when it was all upside down glass jars with a soldering iron element for a heater) as they NEVER got me high.

Cut to years later and I hit a health problem that made me determined to give it so much effort to see if I can get vaping to work for me. A friend had bought a volcano, it similarly didnt work for her either, no real high (never mind all the coughing).

Took three months for the high to start making sense/become apparent. For the first god knows how many weeks it was just giving me a headache but not doing a damn thing. Then, for some reason, it just clicked. Since then I've been working to get my usage down as the Volcano would similarly eat flower like the Plenty seems to.

Now I get higher than I ever have, on smaller amounts. Finally finding that mythical 'vaping uses less material' point.

Personally, as great as the plenty is, I'd sell it and get something less hungry.

Basically, KeroZen's post gets my full endorsement :)

I smoked weed for 40 years before discovering vaping. I never smoked weed with tobacco, ever. Always straight weed or maybe weed and hash together.

After trying several vapes, I have settled on the Vapcap by Dynavap as my favorite vaporizer. It is the only one I use now.

Vapcaps are extremely efficient with your bud. My consumption has gone way down and I now microdose several times a day, every day. My usual load is .015 grams. So I am able to keep my daily usage at about .1 gram a day or less; a fraction of my consumption with other vapes and compared to smoking it.

Beyond efficiency, Vapcaps are tiny, the size of a cigarette, beautifully designed and have a modular build so you can switch up parts for a different look or function.

The Vapcaps run from $50 to around $180 depending on the model. All the models perform wonderfully. The difference is in materials, stainless steel, wood or titanium and function, but they all work great. The $50 M model is a fantastic back up vape. But once you have it, it very well may become your daily driver.

@helmutshelmet did you buy the Plenty Filling Chamber with Reducer listed on S&B at $24.90 USD.? I don't have a Plenty but I read in it's thread that the reducer makes the Plenty more efficient at using flower. I suggest you search the Plenty thread using the word "reducer" to read all about it.

In my case major differences in consumption methods always means differences in the buzz. I still like the big combustion boot from a bong but after enough use I learned to appreciate the nice aspects of vapeing as well. Sadly some folks can't or won't transit back and forth between combustion and vapeing so it really comes down to the individual tastes and expectations. Just keep vapeing and relax into the differences.

I agree with all the posts here.

In general, you have to give it time. Coming straight from smoking, your lungs need to clear out and your brain is looking for the effects of the combustion high.

My personal experience is similar to @emmdeemo's, at the beginning vaping seemed to not "work" properly, but I sticked to it and now I'm getting higher than ever, using VERY little material.

Like @Abysmal Vapor said, you should definitely take a t-brek. I normally follow the resesitization procedure described in this video every couple months and ime it works wonders.

Finally, it's a fact that some vaporizers need more weed than others. I too live in an illegal country, and as such I understand your struggle.
Don't rule out getting a new vape: the Dynavap M @Squiby suggested is only 55€ on Vaposhop, and it's very conservative with your material. I bought a Coney Pop-Vapor for 40€, and it hits like a train.
Hell, if you're really going through 1 gram a day like you say, with a bit of patience you'll save so much money in herb that you can virtually afford any vape on the market :D

Check out the thread on the Tubo evic, I just ordered one last night.

I had combusted for 30 years before I decided to cut the carcinogens from my routine. I had bought the Vapir No 1 and didn't like it so I went back to combusting. Then a couple years later I decided to give it another try. I read here on Fuckcombustion that you needed to stop the smoking before the vaporizing will work properly for you.

I read a lot through the pages here trying to find the right vaporizer to help me get over the hump. I chose the portable Vapor No 2. That's all I did was vaporize my cannabis from my No 2. I was able to get high different than a smoking high. More clean and I could taste the various different strains of cannabis I was using.

I did more reading because I wanted a backup and bought the Pinnacle Pro from VaporBlunt. I ended up buying a total of three of the Pinnacle Pros because I was so excited about it. Not a good vaporizer over time. It was a big nightmare but that's another story.

Then I bought the Solo. I fell in love. I still hold the Solo in special asteem as one of my favorite vaporizers. Now Arizer has come out with the newer Solo II, it's even better now!

Back to the beginning. I eventually joined the forum and found that it was a very welcoming community with a lot of great helpful people.

You need to find a vaporizer that you are going to like, then go from there. The Milaana or the VapCap you might like - they both are an On Demand portable. The VapCap M is only around $50. You would use a butane lighter with it.

I have bought many vaporizers since I first started vaporizing, think I might be at 14 or 15 I'm not sure? What I'm trying to get at is that it's a journey and everything just gets better.

Thanks everyone, you really are all so helpful and knowledgeable and friendly! I'm now trying to understand why the Plenty isn't a good option (even though as I said it's not so quick and easy to sell it and get a new one here, so switching to a different machine would take as long as acclimatisation - I got your points about using different machines and it's not possible right now so let's put that on the back burner for the moment). As I researched which machines are best for dry herb, it's the only name that kept coming up with consistently good reviews. I'm really curious as to why everyone is writing it off in this thread yet I never read a single complaint about it before. Why would a different machine be better? Is it literally just the size of the chamber?

As far as moving forward, given that I'm ultra poor and remote, it seems my best course of action might be to keep trying the Plenty and see if I don't get used to it. Does anyone cosign this?

For reference, I tried the Volcano some years ago and it sent me pretty much past the Voyager probe!! That's also why the Plenty was so attractive to me. That of course was when I was on holiday in an MMJ state in the USA, so I think the friend who packed it probably put quite a lot in.

Plenty is great, same with the volcano, its just the bigger the chamber, the more likely I am to fill it no matter how hard I try and keep my usage down :)

The only real solution for me is a much smaller chamber, helps me not cough too.

EDIT: Sorry, yeah, part of my point was, keep at it. It might 'click' into place. Took me three months.

@helmutshelmet - These comments address trying to use less herb in the Plenty:

The reducer with capsules is both convenient and efficient. Cheap.

But before spending any more money, try a slower draw at higher temp with smaller amount.

Not sure if you have a scale, but you mentioned 0.25g, Cut that in half, don't worry if screen is not completely covered.

Set temp to 7 and slow down your draw, try for 20 seconds

After a primer draw, the first long slow draw at max temp is surprisingly productive.
Second is OK, third whispy. Takes longer to warm it up than to vape.

Added bonus for recent combusters: Self induced hypoxia from the long slow draw adds a slight dizzy buzz.;)

The Plenty was designed for larger loads, with "normal" draw speed and duration. My suggestion above is a workaround, but you may not like drawing slowly. When your budget allows, get the reducer or get a portable like those suggested above. Or the Fury2 -- Tiny, cheap, small bowl, brainless operation

Ok, I'll keep this in mind. I'm hesitant about the higher temperatures at the moment because I don't really know how the smell travels in this building, but I'll try that when I get a chance.

By the way, where is a good place to store a desktop vape? It seems like it takes a long time to cool down and therefore sits out stinking up the apartment very obviously. I even thought about sticking it in the fridge when I finish a sesh. Since it's impossible to know how the smell travels until it's too late, I'm trying to take precautions.

Vapes are like cars, beer and horses, in that we like what works best for the individual. So there is little consensus on vapes because so many different vapes can work well in one set of hands and so poorly in another set. Keep focusing on the details of what you want then hunt for specific units.

As to smell its about the noses involved, I can't smell most of my vapes because my sense of smell sucks bad, my lady knows whats up after my first hit from a different room and my dog can find trace amounts of MJ dust on command. I always now assume anyone in the house knows, well except me.

I haven't liked every vaporizer that I have bought. Some were given away or put in a drawer. Vaporizers are so individual because we are all so different. I don't like a butane vaporizer but some folks swear by them.

I look for.a vaporizer that doesn't have a big oven for starters. The Ascent has a big oven folks bought glass beads or these glass small flowers as spacers. These were actually pipe screens off Amazon. I've used cotton as a spacer. It does collect the oil, then you vaporize the cotton at the very end. You just use the same cotton over and over again unil it gets really saturated with oil.:)

Get the chamber away from the heat source asap once you've done with it, empty the chamber into a jar you can seal. If you can afford it, smell proof canvas bags are a thing so you could shove the chamber and whip in those. Or a bigger jar with a seal? A kilner jar?

If you're not using higher temps at all, that could explain why you arent getting as high as you want too.

The problem with reading reviews to make a decision about what to buy is that they rarely look at the vapes that are most popular here as opposed to vapes by bigger companies. Not one of my local dispensaries sells any vape but one of the big name ones.
Although not my favorite, when you can afford the vapcap M which is $50 I strongly recommend it. The plenty cost more than most of the vapes I would recommend which are all on demand. So you made a serious investment. You could consider selling it and still have money to buy a different vape. (Or as recommended already try cotton or flax to limit the amount you need to use.)
If you live in a different country where shipping costs would be expensive, there are good stores that are not in the US.

Exactly. You need a vape that suits your style with features that you appreciate. This is a self discovery process only determined through using vapes.

I have come to prefer butane powered vapes. I don't like dealing with batteries or being tethered to an electrical outlet. I live in a rural area where the electricity can be intermittent, so I have a lifestyle where off grid solutions are the ideal.

The Vapcap is my favorite for many reasons but the primary distinction is that unlike other flame heated vapes, the bowl is first heated, THEN you toke rather than heating WHILE toking, the cap is a temperature indicator and the fact that you can use almost any heat source from various types of lighters, flames, elements and fires to heat. I like that they're tough, near indestructible and that they will be right there with you, off grid, performing forever flawlessly.

Efficient, simple, easy peasy. That's for me.

You could consider selling it and still have money to buy a different vape

FC has a wonderful classified thread where members can sell and trade vapes. It may be worth looking into if your Plenty ends up not being a match.
