Any thoughts on the Nugsmasher mini?

I am looking to buy or make a press that I can press anywhere from 0.5g to 3.5g efficiently. PSI range 2500 to 6000 on the material.

Would I be better off spending the money on known quality plates, that are higher dollar, and putting them on a press? Or would buying the Nugsmasher mini be the better option?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about building a press for personal use...

Can anyone tell me if these plates & controllers are any good please?
Squishit 3x5" plates and controller
Also are they worth £150 more than these ones on Amazon?
Rosinking set of plates and controller

If I'm only going to be pressing a gram or two at a time, will a small 10-15 ton press be enough?
I would go with caged plates like these...

You can slide these in just about any press and get great results. No tools needed and nothing has to be attached to your press. They are also a reputable brand.

Hi,
Sorry I should have added, I'm in the UK.
The kits I linked to are, so far, the only sets I've managed to find for sale over here.
As nice as the caged plates are, if the company would even send them over here, the shipping (and import duties/tax) would be ridiculous

Low-temp ships to the UK I believe. I don't know how much luck you will have finding a plate kit that is produced outside of the US but perhaos @Hogni knows of something. I know he had a friend trying to create a press out of Germany so oerbaps he knows of some European competition or something.

I would be leary with just any old plates you find only because the manufacturing tolerances and quality may not be up to par.

Yepp, work is going on. But can't promise any dates. For sure still 3 months at least until delivery. We're discussing the prototypes of the different models. Controller with own software is already in progress.
DIY-sets (plates + controller + heater) for sure (Caged/uncaged), complete pro presses too.
Still some construction questions and portfolio of offered sizes open.
But it's getting old fashioned "Made in Germany" quality.

No way, man. I said "old fashioned" meaning "Made in Germany" the old days when German products were well constructed and processed and absolutely reliable but reparable with less efforts in a seldom bad case. This is the intention at least. And I know his work, He's a real quality fetishist. I already have to stop his overengeneering to help him holding reasonable prices. But on demand you'll get all you want including customized features - it'll have just it's price.

There will come pre-sale prices too.
But atm there is a lot of work for other projects resting cause of holidays of co-workers.

how much do you press per go stickstones? usually i just press one bud at a time. 1-2 grams but i've been doing some larger ones using bags and a pre press once strains have proven to be worthy. also, have you found a fave temp zone to be pressing in so far? 185-195F seems to be working great for me so far.

I'm so new to the whole rosin game that I haven't branched out much on the settings. I've been going around 220 for 35 seconds. I'm also just squishing little nuggets as I need them.

i've found humidifying my buds back up to 62% helps. I have been playing around mostly in the 180-200 degree range. usually 2-5 min presses around the 8-9 ton(us) mark.

are you squishing nugs? or making bricks and then bagging them maybe? for me mostly just nugs, because im making a list and finding out my % return on each strain i have. but i've done 3 big presses now too.

I'm just squishing nugs as I need them. I don't have any way to measure the pressure with my unit. 2-5 min presses...wow! I feel like I might be pushing it at my settings. Maybe it's time to lower the temp and lengthen the time and see what happens.

I've had this press for a bit now and used it half a dozen times. Works well, easy to use, feels like a tank. Bolting down is a must!

Do you have to be Arnold Schwarzen-pectorals to use that bad boy??
Once you get to pressure, will it lock or do you need to keep cranking?
Does it have a gauge for pressure so you can monitor/repeat to exact pressure next time?
Press is way in the future but very interesting to see some of these.

No lock. No pressure gauge. I just crank on it, and I haven’t gone all hulk on it yet. Fairly manual. All it controls is temp, and it has a timer with alarm, but doesn’t change anything.

I’m pressing too hot...gonna back it down. At least for this strain.

Think i'm going with a RosinBomb or Trippy Hippy at this point... thinking electric is the way to go?
The trippy hippy looks like a bunch of relabeled chinese junk presses so I would avoid them. If there is a specific model you like you should post a direct link and I/we can try to provide more advice on it but from a quick glance I would just suggest you stay away.

The Rosinbomb is a nice competitive option for the nugsmasher mini but it still cannot compete with the OG nugsmasher in pressure. The Nugsmasher Mini and Rosinbomb are only good for 1-2 tons whereas the Nugsmasher OG is rated to go up to 12 tons.

Pressure is not always the answer as our friend @Nattybushdoctor has shown us with his Slugs, however many find it to be important when pressing on flat plates.

Personally I would only choose an electric option for Rosin pressing because I want accuracy and precision for easily repeatable results. Thats not to say anything against those cool little slugs tho.

@nosmoking thanks for your post and feedback man! I'm really just cracking the cover on this, and just started my research but I was looking at this one:

https://thetrippyhippy.com/shop/ext...atinum-series-electric-hydraulic-rosin-press/

Think i'll scratch it off just based on your feedback though.

Were you referring to the rosinbomb m-50 or rocket in comparison to the nugsmasher (standard?)?

Any others I should consider? Think i'm going to need to keep it inside Canada though due to shipping and customs/border.

and i guess i'll be spending more than double of what this thread is about lol Guess i'll make a thread for quality presses under $2k?

EDIT: that RosinBomb Rocket for 599 has a discount that brings it down to 518. That's pretty decent for an electric press of this quality?
