Really pleased you like them @duff it was always going to be fun working stuff out from the various pictures you sent me. I bought 14mm and 18mm male and female joints for reference ages ago so that bit was easier, not having any glass made the MP end a little more tricky.

This is worth every penny, no more fogged up lenses or a poor seal due to facial hair, fresh air gets blown down over my face.

Left the UK in this kind of weather
ULENYZG.jpg

This is the cloudiest it got to, a bit too hot at night with no AC, nothing better than being able to sit out of an evening tho.
hLnsRml.jpg

And of course you have to eat, baby lamb, baby squid, calamari and monkfish and tiger prawn dhal all really nice.

I picked another dust collector from a local turner along with this piece of beech, he'd already cut it in half.
Just need to work out the best way of showing off this
pJR7V0t.jpg

As much as it's nice to get away it's always good to be home.
The shed has been going thru a streamlining process, split in two and tooling all moved around.
It's all a work in progress. All takes up time but it's for the greater good.

A pair of twists got coned and marked up today. They'll be getting the file on them next.

I'm putting in a wood order and it'll be a big push to get this round cleared, some nice pieces to come.

Had up's and down's over the last few days, got the pair of twists done,
Walnut first

I then had a go at getting some video of the Kingwood one as I made it, all sped up to fit IG and to make it a bit more watchable here.

First video is the cone masked and marked, follow the line with a saw as a start point for the filing.

Then a triangular and small round file add a bit of depth for the 5mm file to follow, all these files need a regular clean with a file card as the resin content and wood dust soon clog them up, this is my first attempt at filing Kingwood and the 5mm file soon got clogged up and I had to move on to a rougher file, a more aggressive cut means less clogging.

Got sidetracked and forgot to set the camera going thru the rest of it, it was looking very nice until I noticed a crack at the hot end.
It's one of those things and to try and make good out of a bad situation I decided to cut the hot end down below the crack, and unfortunately the same at another split at the MP end.

Not a happy bunny at this point but I figured if I could get the ends cut off then I'd at least be able to use the majority of the twist with some Blackwood ends.

Not to be, a big chunk dropped out and spoiled that idea.

I had a proper shit start to this week, got some kind of eye infection going on which meant downing the dangerous tools.

Depth perception is a must when offering up sharp bits of steel to fast rotating materials.

Not all been a loss as it gave me a bit of time to work out some design details for the @Pipes Skelly.
Still unsure how I'm going to pull this one off and as ever all ideas are welcome.
h8ftXbO.jpg

Also ripped apart another device for the magnets, no more rubber band.

As the week progressed and my eye was getting better I tried another VC-Mi adapter idea out.
Left one being the new version.
CmyH7i8.jpg

The first Teak one wasn't big enough to get hold of and remove from the 18mm glass
zIMgJjB.jpg

The new version is much easier to get a hold of.

A request for a mushroom shaped MP came in for a desktop, I don't have one so I got the parts sent over and had a look to see if there was anything I could do. Not sure I've seen any custom MP's for this vape.
This is my trial piece it just needs an o ring fitting to allow for any changes in shape the wood will go thru, the next one is going to be an acrylic. Had some nice ideas for others as well while I turned this Brazilian Tulipwood one.

More important I got my order of blanks thru, some great stuff to come.
Top to bottom.
Bog Oak, Curly Koa, Macassar Ebony, Classic Green Conway Stewart and a single Pearl Acrylic being used for accents.

The Classic doesn't look very green until it gets turned, even roughed out it looks great.

Apologies for the delays and have a great weekend everyone.

I got a skelly coming, not sure how much diff the parts are from my Jarhead, but i have a couple ideas..

I really like how your battery pack works at the moment. Maybe use push connectors (or even push/lock connectors) instead of hard wired. But i cant come up with any alterations in that area.. 3, 18650 batteries are gonna take up the space they take up, hard to shrink them down.

Its kind of hard to tell without dimensions, but i was wondering if you could integrate a capped (or cappable) vc storage holder (instead of a seperate tube) to the side of the heater. This way when you are done, just pop the cap, and drop it in for storage. Was thinking longer and slimmer than the heater config you have now.. but then again that might not be possible w components we have to work with.

Round the edges off the heater section and maybe add some ergonomic finger recesses, just for a slightly better fit in the hand.

Like i said, when my skelly gets here i can get a better idea of the size constraints we have to work with i will have a better idea of what can be accomplished. Hopefully get something drawn in CAD and brainstorm some more from there..

@Drexciya, eye's much better thanks but I'm making sure I don't do anything to set it off again.

@Mr. Me2 You can bait me but as Pro.P.P. I'll not rise to it.
In the past I would have agreed and mentioned it straight away and followed that up with the resemblance to things that go in the orifices that should only have things come out of them.
I take the 5th as to any knowledge I have on these matters.

@xlr8shun the only real difference between them is the batteries, sled and management board.

I've got connectors like this and it's my next step to fit one at the battery end, that way I can make any battery or mains supply work.

@Pipes mentioned the Mini which will use a 900mah RC style battery, much more compact and even though 900mah sounds ridiculously small my current usage is about 500mah a day.
Take a look here and you'll see the battery can be any size and shape

It's all coming together but a lot slower than I'd hoped, life in general, wood suppliers and my eye really knocked me back a bit and it's been hard to pull stuff together.

Just to let you all know I'm getting caught up and it feels good seeing stems come together.

A 'Dark Matters' style stem in the jig, an Ebony getting ready to be coned and twisted and a nice little 14mm with an MP which needs the condenser and brass fitting.

Also the Conway acrylic, this is a dry 600 grit sand

And a 1200 wet sand

Just a dude
Dear @phattpiggie where did you get your killer face shield? Did it cost an arm and a leg? I would love to get away from disposable respirators, the bands always get tangled in my hair. Just became aware that shields like this exist and here you are showing yours off! Love FC! TIA, you're the best

EDIT: nevermind, *gulp* too rich for this hobbyist, lol. But for you, this sort of kit is essential really; I'm not at it every day, lately not every week. My woodworking doesn't involve the object spinning 100billion x per second whilst I jab at it with razor-sharp bits of metal. Do I seem mad?! Also, I don't have the steady hands, keen eye, and nerve required. So yeah, there's that... :D

@pxl_jockey for me it's a must, facial hair and dust masks don't go together very well. That and having to wear specs make for a pretty horrible time when trying to be safe.

It was expensive but I've got upper respiratory problems so worth every penny, we'll see how it demists once the temps outside drop.

A follow on from the Tulipwood MP(enis) I turned, got another mushroom done and a more classic tulip shape one as well.

Next pieces to get turned will be these Dark Matters style stems, Bog Oak and Indian Summer both will be getting Blackwood ends fitted.

Nearly the weekend again, have a great one where ever you are.

The ancient meets the modern, Bog Oak and acrylic.
An odd wood to turn especially when mixed up with acrylic and Blackwood, you go from ribbons on the BW to dust from the Oak back to ribbons on the acrylic.
The RHS one has aluminium accents with 10mm of Indian Summer and a slightly longer hot end, LHS is brass and 6mm of the acrylic, both with Blackwood ends. Both 120mm long.

Damn Phatts your products are mind bending good. Seriously these are unreal. What I'm enjoying the most is that your style can't be pin pointed to just a twisted stem. Your not afraid to try new styles and techniques. And these last 2 you posted should be used as your "calling card" if you will. They really show what your capable of doing. Nice. Real nice brother!!!!!

@nickdanger i cant wait either, I've got too learn how to work with the materials first. Nothing ventured and all that.

@HD Springer if nothing else the Indian Summer will be my 'calling card" it just works no matter how I use it.

It was @squidmark's idea to combine the 3 different elements, and I'm not one to shy away from a challenge.

All this is new to me, at the end of the day I'm a novice turner but that's not going to hold me back.

The fact all this is related to our favourite plant makes it all the better.
Turn a bit, vape a bit. Turn a bit more, vape a bit more.

I'll be a cone head for the next few days, got a couple of tapers to turn ready for their rendezvous with a couple of files.
Twisting my Walnut man.

Another little adapter is near enough done just got final test fit and finish to do. Not been the easiest of things to make but in for a penny and all that.
I'm hoping to get some other adapters done in the future taking the VC modularity into other areas.

14mm Blackwood, Pearl Acrylic, Hawaiian Koa with brass accents with a BW MP.
Some woods are really hard or impossible to get in the UK so I was really pleased to find the Koa here.

It went from this

Had some stone arrive the other day for inlaying, had a quick go with some Lapis Lazuli. I drilled a hole thru the Walnut battery case, made a Purpleheart plug and left some room for the stone.
PNho4BC.jpg

I'm looking forward to getting the stem done with the Turquoise, I have 2 different types to play with and 'Fierce cinnamon tomales' to keep me focused.

Got a couple of cones done ready for filing and a simple Blackwood 120mm tapered stem finished.
A simple BW taper with 15mm of Thuya in it.

A couple of twists for you on a Saturday morning, Macassar Ebony and Figure Walnut.
They need a bit more work and the final sand and finish, I'm looking forward to seeing them with the first coat of wax.
