This glass tube may be my best vaporizer (by far) (contains video)

I just noticed this: At 36 seconds something really awesome happens. Zoom in on the herbs as much as possible and try to watch it slowly.

I made another quick video to highlight the cool thing I noticed after making the other video.

EDIT: I just realized this video pretty well proves dark ABV does not indicate conduction heat, as my video involved zero conduction. The glass was cold; there was no heat for it to conduct. Which is why there is a ring of unvaped herbs touching the glass.

Something else that occurred to me after making this video I can only describe as a moving picture in my mind, depicting pulled air versus force air. I think I figured out why forced air produces bigger clouds than pulled air (like with the Herbalizer whip with fan assist). I think if the hot air had been forced through my herbs instead of pulled, there would not be a ring of unvaped herbs.

now you just need to add a temperature readout ... like a BBQ thermometer.

i can see what you're saying about pushed air vs pulled air ... the pulled air is only going to go through voids in the herb, but pushed air blasts the whole forward surface of the herb mass.

how about loading the heated area with glass spheres to get more heat transfer to the air flow, and vortex the air flow?

Yes, you see it. Literally. You think in pictures. Pulled air takes the shortest route through the herbs. Which minimizes contact between herbs and heat. Forced air creates the most contact between herbs and heat. What you said gave me a new idea.

This is probably a good way of describing it: When pulled, hot air takes the path of least resistance through the herbs. When forced (or pushed), hot air takes the path of most resistance through the herbs.

@Hippie Dickie The unvaped ring of herbs is not an issue when this tool is used other ways. For example, if only the glass touching herbs is heated, the unvaped ring is heated by conduction, yet the rest of the load is heated by convection. Much like a Vapcap.

I just figured out another good way to use this:
  1. Load .1 g.
  2. Insert "mouthpiece" into mouth.
  3. Ignite torch.
  4. Torch glass adjacent to herbs while inhaling.
Eventually you start feeling heat and tasting vapor. That's when you shut off the torch and just take a few hits. Or more.

I just want to say that I was considering the sticky brick Labs vaporizers at one point. However due to my severe allergies and sensitivities I was hesitant in case I react to the by products of the butane burning.
I did some dry test runs using the purest butane and a decent torch lighter through a bubbler, and I did suffer a very bad adverse reaction affecting my respiratory system negatively.

I am a freak case when it comes to reactions to anything and everything, in some cases I am like a mining canary. I'm not saying that inhaling butane by-products is harmful, I have adverse reactions to trillions of harmless everyday substances.

However there is definitely something there for me to react badly to. For me personally it will not be an option to use a torch lighter this way.

Herb gardener...
No, residue doesn't remain in terms of what is inhaled
I was hesitant in case I react to the by products of the butane burning

So what actually remains after butane is burnt..
Nothing or something..????
See from my limited knowledge about science and reactions, I'm saying there must be by products..
Or it would be a superfuel. Cant have something for nothing right...?????

I would guess there must be some byproduct, but I also guess it doesn't make it through the herbs. As in the herbs may act as a filter.

Some will make it through for sure, directly, but also it will be vaporized out of the herbs as you go along. I am not attempting to fearmonger in the slightest. Tons of people use butane torch lighters this way to vaporize, without reporting or experiencing any adverse effects. I just think we should acknowledge that there is something created which is being inhaled, that is all.

Saturday hooray! I've done all my infection treatments for the day, making amazing progress now. Next is my first meal with a small dose of edibles, and then in some hours time I will get me some vapor!

Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy your Evos to the max!:)

Edit- for those of you who already read this post, I have just edited it because the damn stupid artificial intelligence talk to text feature on my tablet, which saves my delicate hands from typing at times, has a hard time of hearing and makes up words I did not even say!

Above I said "I'm not attempting to fearmonger in the slightest"

But the stupid tablet decided I wanted to say "I'm not attempting to "feel anger" in the slightest".

The number of times this damn AI program catches me out and makes me look like a dumbass without me realising!:goon:

And yet it thinks it will take over our entire civilization and run things better!

Fuck iPhone. Not in a good way.
Yeah I have no desire to ever own a smartphone. They are sophisticated spying devices, and they pump out higher levels of harmful EMF's. I am sure there are numerous other secret malicious purposes for the smart, and epsecially, I, phone.

@ataxian , cannabis is safer than phones?

I think the EVO is safer than the iphone any day.

Edit- "Alexa- turn EVO to 3 'O clock! (Bitch;))"

U got to love @Aimless Ryan ?
I love his vaping style!

I have a STAINLESS STEELE tube I use to do the same thing basically.
I break way too much glass. (SCA)

Hey man!! Loved your idea, wish I had a glass tube like this one to try it out. I recently bought a xmax x2 pro but I doubt that it vapes this good hahaha.

Also, loved your videos, You're a fighter man keep on fighting.

Best wishes from Brazil..

I think I may have just figured out a way to do this with forced air (without assistance).
  1. Attach a Volcano bag (sans valve) to one end of a glass tube using press and seal wrap. (Or maybe just use the solid valve mouthpiece. Without attaching anything to the tube.)
  2. Push a screen most of the way into the tube from the other end.
  3. Load .1 g.
  4. Torch the middle of the glass tube until there is yellow flame where the flame touches the glass. Rotate 180° and repeat.
  5. Blow steadily into the deflated Volcano bag from the mouthpiece end. (Or figure out a way to use the Volcano pump to do this.)
Hopefully I can motivate myself to try this tomorrow.

Your comment didn't hit me at first, but I hope you mean my let-the-picture-do-the-talking style.

EDIT: I like my style, too. I'm going to go load up one of those tubes.
I made a GLASS TUBE in your HONOR!

In the videos I use clear, clean tubes. But the tubes get really caked up with resin. That resin is easy to hit without processing. I just plug the tube, heat the plugged end, and suck.

I just did that about half an hour ago. I got a huge cloud that didn't irritate my throat or lungs. Baked.

I seem to be learning that I may not have needed the foil in the first video. Also, this method might be best with very small loads (.03-ish).

What I've been doing this morning is similar to what I did in the first video. I pushed the screen farther in, heated the fuck out of the hot end with Stovetorch, and didn't plug the hot end. Worked very nicely. Feels more potent. Tasty. Big fluffy clouds.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
I had a DIY involving a desk lamp and glass jars and staring at a bright light. This was when my only vape was a PAX. :freak: But I wasn't going back to combustion just because I had to RMA it.

Also remembering how I tried to get my log vape to work after seeing a few of your experiments. And now the VC and my glass compatible finds have me rethinking the following when trying this and that.
There is some odd glass in my junk drawer that the VC cap nearly fits on. And I had to play with the screen to get it right. So some of my musings are more like....

Heating a glass tube. Glass generally isn't the most evenly conductive and stable of materials.
Getting the end of the tube end engulfed in hot air. The VC cap is big on this and the thin airpath between the cap and tip.
Having air slowly drag along heated glass and accumulate heat. This is what I puttered with in my lamp setup.
The volume and rate of air passing thru your materials. Preheating +/-?

If you are borrowing and/or replacing vapes. That know how still carries over.:science:

With smaller loads, it's kind of a conscious slow draw. With larger loads, the herbs slow down my draw speed. If I heat directly adjacent to the herbs, I take short, quick draws. If I take longer/slower draws after heating directly adjacent to the herbs, it will likely combust.

I have come to prefer very small loads lately. The four hits in my latest video were from a tube containing .05 or less.

I think I've learned quite a bit about this stuff over the last day or two; both the torch and how best to use the tube. Beginning with a prospective explanation for the ferocious orange flame in my latest video.

In the opening clip of the video, there is a sleek blue flame. (That clip is from a different day, with a slightly different torch configuration.) Later in the video, though, the flame looks kind of yellow (but I think it's more of an orange color).

I'm pretty sure I know why the torch produced such a blue flame one time and such an orange flame another time. My hypothesis: To get a smooth blue flame I must use a kiln post with a fairly small opening as the upper post, atop a post with a much larger opening. To get a ferocious orange flame, both posts have to have a smaller opening.

When I use two small-opening posts, I feel like the flame is squeezed and shot out with more force and heat than when I use a post with a big opening as the bottom post. Kind of like when you put your thumb over the end of a water hose.

I'm pretty sure the yellow color in the flame throughout the second half of the video is not the same yellow color as in the BIC-style flame produced immediately after igniting the burner. I believe the yellow flame I get after ignition is a much different kind of yellow flame than the yellow-orange flame seen during torch mode.

I believe I'm starting to prefer a tube configuration with the screen 3-4" from the hot end of the tube. That leaves plenty of potentially red-hot thermal mass at the end of the tube if I want to use the tube that way. Which can produce at least 10 uninterrupted [smooth] hits.

Now a couple months after beginning this project, I still choose Stovetorch & Tubevape 70-80% of the time. Not only does it take some time to learn how to best use this equipment, but this method of vaping is also way the fuck better than everything else I've done. Still. (Most of the time.)

I think @Used2use may have mentioned a yellow flame that appears against glass while heating after glass gets really hot. I'm learning to use that yellow flame as an indicator; kind of like setting my Volcano to 7 or whatever. I'm also learning to gauge approximate vaporization temperature by the temperature and feel of the air entering my mouth. I'm not sure if I have documented this phenomenon yet, but if not I'll get to it. Unless I die.
