My VAS is getting the better of me. I'm on the hunt. I have a Mighty and a Grasshopper already, but man this Firewood 4 is looking really really really nice :-).

I love the on demand convection that this thing provides. I may have to get one :-)

Can't imagine how you would be disappointed. With my FW4 and my GH I have not had any VAS in many months. And not because I'm not looking. I check out new units all the time and I don't see anything to distract me from my two portables (which I also use at home unless I have multiple guests).

And the way Marc handled his recent recall is proof positive that you will receive excellent customer service.

Allow me to be the little devil on your shoulder whispering "GO for it" in your ear.

Hi, I'd like to add a stealthy on demand battery replaceable vaporizer to my collection and I'm torn between the GH Ti and the Firewood 4. I already own the SBJr, OmniVap Ti and a Mighty. How would you compare both? And which one you think fits better in my collection?

Thanks.

Welcome, Alex.

Can't speak to how these would fit into your collection since I don't have any experience with any of them. But I don't know that you would go wrong with either.

The GH makes its name as the king of stealth due to its form factor. But the LED indicator is a pretty bright beacon in a dark space such as a theater or club. This is dealt with pretty easily by having your hand cupped around the section where the lights appear, but the first time I used it in a theater I was taken by surprise. There's also the matter of the loud "click" of the on/off button. Not a real problem once the movie or music has started, but it could draw attention in quiet circumstances. But being able to go from cold to reaching temp, taking your draw, and having the GH off and back in your pocket in 30 secs is pretty darn sweet.

The big downside is the reliability. Things are definitely improving in that area but still a concern for some. My SS hopper has been in for 5 warranty repairs. I don't think my TI has had to return to CO since I got it. But it's a lifetime warranty and the process is pretty painless (if you live in the US where the shipping charges you must pay to get it there are minimal.)

In some ways the FW4 is even more stealthy than the GH because although it's bigger than the GH, it is easily palmed. There are no LEDs to give you away and all feedback as to on/off status, temp, and readiness is through haptic feedback. The FW's user-replaceable 18650s give it a leg-up on the GHs proprietary-sized batteries and the FW's battery life (loads per battery charge) is much better than the hopper's.

The FW's capsule system is also better for extended forays from home. Much easier to swap FW capsules than empty and reload the GH chamber if you're out and about.

Marc's CS for the FW is excellent. The way he handled his recent recall gives me complete confidence in him as a manufacturer/vendor.

I love my hoppers but I wanted a portable that gave me the same convectional (yes, that's a word because I say so) goodness without the spectre of state-of-the-art tech (as in the hopper) failing. The FW fills that bill for me perfectly.

I'm really happy to have them both and as I mentioned in a previous post, I haven't had the slightest stirrings of VAS since I got them.

In the end, I think you need them both.

Firewood 4
Sent my FW4 in to get fixed on 8/28 and was hoping it would be waiting for me when I got home today from my beach vacation but it wasn't meant to be. Been sucking on a vape pen for 2 weeks and really want some flower now

Well, a bit shorter than that, if I'm being honest.

I sent it back to him last Tuesday, and he'll be sending a new one back to me exactly one week later...

So a little bit better. :)

I still have a loaded capsule that I was about to use before my unit started spazzing on me lol, wonder how bad it'll vape once I get this new one in... :ninja:

Finally got my Firewood back from the recall (I sent it in pretty late, wanted to see what the fix was and how it might have affected the unit). Does this thing hit harder now or have I just been without it for that long? Either way I'm so happy, this thing is my favorite. In the interim I got myself a Rove battery and some cartridges at a dispensary on a first-time deal. I'm not sure how the build quality and price of the battery compares to others because I'm totally new to concentrates and vape pens, but damn is that thing convenient. And strong.

Still, nothing beats vaping herb for me, glad this whole thing worked out smoothly. Anyone reading this on the fence about getting a Firewood 4, do it. Marc is a great guy with an amazing product, and you'd be supporting someone who clearly works hard and cares about his customers.

hi - is there anyone here who owns both the firewood & the tubo? i am really torn between these two, and i am far from an experienced vaper.. i tried the mighy, loved it, but i am sure a session vape is not for me. after quite a haul of research i feel it is coming down to these two. i know the tubo allows for more precise temp control, also seems more powerful, whereas the firewood is much more portable. both good points. but how would these two compare in terms of vapor quality? harshness? ease of use? thanks a lot, i reallly appreciate all the help i can get..!

I have the Tubo and FW3(very similar, but apparently not quite as powerful or fast as the fw4 to vapor, from what i read on here)

This is not an easy comparison and you seem to have homed in on the basic differences already (ie their respective strengths ) but i will see if i can add anything.

Vapor quality. Difficult. Both are great. Both produce similar type of vapor which i describe as 'nano like'. That is, more uplifting type of vapor.
the tubo with it's wide open airpath has virtually no restriction and because of the evic, has total control on temperature AND volume of vapor. That is, if you draw harder, it instantly compensates and so keeps pumping out vapor and lots of it. Very hard to overwhelm the heater.
the FW has a much more restricted airpath so has draw restriction. This is part of the design, so as long as you keep 'within spec' you will get quality vapor, but not as much per draw. I have no problems getting awesome clouds (and effects) though.

Harshness- I'd say the FW tends to be harsher, especially at higher temps. That short vapor path has it's limits, although the Fw mates with 14mm water connection AND 510 ecig mouthpieces right out of the box, so extending the path is easy.
Tubo, i bought an 18-14 wpa from them with my purchase so it also mates with water.
I haven't tried tubo with the short stem though. Only the bent stem and via a hydro tube.

Ease of use-depends on the situation, but both are easy And I have used both when vaping with beginners.
Fw is for me top dog portable. Sleek design fits in the pocket like a phone and no lights and haptic feedback means it just seems like you are getting a few texts if anyone notices the sounds.
it's also a completely self contained unit. Load the capsule and put it in your pocket. Good to go. No extra parts, stems etc to think about (unless you take a 510 ecig mouthpiece, which i often do, but this is optional-and tha fw4 has an extra mouthpiece integrated to extend the path)
Easy to use-once turned on (hold button, then 1-4 presses to set temp) everything is automatic with the draw sensor. You can get extra capsules for easy swapping, but i find refilling on the go pretty simple too.

Tubo has a seperate stem system. Very easy, but seperate components to carry as you couldn't leave them in on the go (safely ), however you can use 2 different spots in the stem for different size loads (and effects?), and both are designed to use a second screen to hold the load, so material doesn't fall out.
I Wouldn't use tubo as a portable out of the house. Too big and odd shape and seperate parts, but it can be. I didn't buy it for this purpose, though, so have never tried.
easy to use. Set temp. Press button. Draw. No technique required. Probably even easier in cruise mode (haven't bothered to try cruise yet...)

I could go on, but have already written an essay, so will stop...soon

You can't go wrong with either, but if I had to choose, for me it would be the firewood as the effects produced are just perfect for me (I am firmly in the camp of 'vape signature' compatibility being a very big part of why some people love vapes that others find meh) although the tubo is no slouch here either.

I think how you intend to use it should be the deciding factor.

I hope i have helped, but i probably haven't really... Good luck.

OK I have just ordered the 4 with cooling unit and the 3-capsule thingy!
Got it unfinished cause of price and also it will be fun to finish it myself. Tung oil is pretty easy to find.

Looking forward to using this out and about. It will be a nice complement to my Milaanas, which I love, but all the glass is too fragile to feel comfortable out of the house. Especially cause I use a fancy DDave cooling stem with it.

Marc responded to my email questions immediately, said he just posted more unfinished units and is working towards a 5th iteration but it will be a few months.

Will report back soon as I have performed the initial ceremony of bonding with a new vape!

Yayyyy! It's here! It is so tiny, I love it. Forgive me for saying it's adorable.
A couple questions:

The battery door is so tight I was
Afraid I'd break it trying to slide it off. Any tips? Wax maybe?

I plan to finish it with some beeswax I have around from a log vape. Is this sufficient? Should I wax the inside of it?

You know what? As lovely as this vape is, I unfortunately don't think it's for me. Only because I'm an oldish lady still recovering from a broken wrist and rotator cuff issues. This device takes too much force and precision manipulation of tiny breakable parts. Damn, I was really ready to love it.

I've only used it once. Doubt Marc could take it back because of that. He mentioned that the next version will have a different loading system, not the current capsules.

I might have to put this up on the classifieds.

would boosting the temperature range setting make the fw heat up faster?
I don't know what's wrong with people. Its already an instant heating unit. I've never had to wait to use this device after its on.

I don't think it needs the temp boost but it can help like a placebo especially if you're on lower temps.

I agree. I boosted the FW3 just because...Well, I could. Never bothered with the FW4 and have been delighted with the performance. The FW3 and FW4 are remarkably fast on heat-up. Not sure they get much credit for that but they are faster than nearly every vape I own, except the GH.

Yes. The FW may give up a little to the GH in heat up time ( a sec or two, maybe?) but it more than makes up for it with the haptic feedback replacing the GH's searing LEDs.

I love them both and haven't had any VAS once they both joined the roster. In fact, I've barely paid any attention to anything that's come out since.

I think boosting helps make the vape easier to use while walking. Sounds strange, but the precise airflow is hard to get while whole body is in motion.

Thinking of adding the F4 to my collection, its a split between this and a Ti GH. Both seem to have great customer service and both have decent stealth and good on-the-go use as well.
The aesthetic's are great in their own way for both too... so its a hard decision.

So the comparison is between F4 w/Cooling unit and Ti GH w/the Perf. front end, mostly for use at home (dry or water filtered) but w/some on-the-go thrown in there too, 1-2 users max.
If anyone has anything to add please do!
