PAX Era by PAX Labs

Realized today that through a combo of discounts I could get an era and bloom farms sativa cart from Eaze for just $44. Not a fan of proprietary carts with premium prices, but I've wanted to try a Pax product and don't use concentrates that often, so figured it was worth a shot at that price. Won't be too upset if it doesn't live up to the hype.

BTW, great reviews @ohmygodimsohigh!

Yeah I think you'll be pretty happy, that's like how it is for me, nice to have a Pax product finally and also not much of a concentrate user. The (strain) pods definitely taste better than (strain) cartridges in my experience, almost like vaping actual herbs, love small size and low temps

Yeah it's mt favorite oil vaporizer. I have had the two pods for a month now and they still look full. A few rips and I'm good. Also the taste is always great, I can taste all the terpenes in the blackberry og and Super Jack. I would recommend this vape just sucks that the pods are not resusable. That would be better for the environment.

Yeah I've had mine longer now and same they still look full even though only .5g, but I do stick to temp two almost entirely and don't use that heavily since I prefer herbs and do still have a couple carts from before. Got a blueberry kush and a sour jack pod myself. Yeah agreed, but for us herbheads the convenience of prefilled pods is too good to pass up unfortunately

@Vapetrees and @Shit Snacks, glad to hear you're getting good mileage out of those pods. That's been a worry of mine, but you've put my mind at ease. I'll definitely pick up a strain-specific pod next.

Oh, and I remember seeing a post on reddit where a guy managed to get a pod apart and refill it. IIRC he said it was a pain, but worth it in the end. I'll see if I can dig it up...

edit: discussed here

Yeah I have seen that as well however I haven't tried it since mine are still going.

@Shit Snacks Yeah it's just too convenient and I got it since I miss having a Pax 2. The only thing I dislike is that I have to keep the cart upright or else the oil is not covering the wicks and it ruins the taste.

I was wondering about this. Mixed opinions on reddit. Think I'll stick to storing vertically for now.

Is it OK to leave pod in if I go a few days between use? Or better to take out and store elsewhere?

I would suggest you store it in the case upright. You don't want particles falling inside the mouthpiece. I learned the hard way. I left it out and when I awoke there was a lot of crud in it. It doesn't help that it's sticky in there. I have been looking for a small cap to put over the mouthpiece but I haven't found one the right size. Also I found mine collected lint in the pods if left in my pocket.

Definitely okay to leave pod in, usually I have one in and other in case, but sometimes I have both in cases. That's the only time I leave it lying down, unless in my pocket or charging briefly, I always try to keep them upright like I do my cartridges. Seems a little overcautious as times they're not they quickly move back once you get going and upright again, may have noticed that taste thing once or twice and didn't know why

Ah yeah my mouthpieces are pretty filthy as happens to the carts as well, vape oil in the mouthpiece always has dust sticking to it that can get some out with toothpicks but mostly yeah caps would be nice on all of these for that reason, but whatever I guess the idea is you don't inhale it because it sticks so well? lol

Didn't really think about crud sticking to the mp, so thanks for the heads-up on that!

Just trimmed one of the pieces from this set to use as a cap. So far, so good.

Any chance of sharing a link to that $44 deal?
TIA

FYI the era fits nicely in tightpac's larger "partypac" cigarette carrier (Link). With the cap on there's very little wiggle room.

Has there been any pesticide/contaminant testing of the pods done?

I'm interested in this as a supplement to my FW4 for superstealth vaping... but the silica wick and weird ingredients (and the app... but that's not too big of a concern for me) have me debating it.

I'm also curious how the consistency is, in comparison to carts... as well as shelf life. Especially of pods that have been slightly used, then left to sit.

Thanks! :)

The ones I bought contained only live resin and cannabis oil. They were pretty good, however I'm not sure about the pod itself. Honestly I'm not too worried about it.

It happened in a video too!

gah, how do i link to it with the right time?
add t=1115 to the url or forward to 18:35
Wow that's alarming. Yeah that was a definite concern for me. It's not safe and I don't want to waste all my oil.
Edit: Just saw the video and I just took my cartridge out of the era.

Since different companies and farms fill the pods, I don't know who does the testing, but I am also not worried about it with them being local extract companies (and the pure taste really makes me not worried, I had initial concerns of the wicks and that ingredients thing early in here, but for me proof in the pudding as its the best I've ever tasted in a cart). I have not used or installed the app either, could be cool, but I am always eary about that too and there's no need.

Consistency is great, no clog worries like some other carts can experience, and shelf life too there is no issue. Still using the same carts for a couple months now on low temps (not daily either) and they don't even look like any oil is missing. Taste and efficacy still stellar like when brand new, it really amazes me how long it is lasting compared to a half gram bloom 510 cart.

Never experienced it going on like that, it only activates when inhaling, that must have been a defective battery and/or pod? Def not typical

With the app you can name your era, check battery level, control temp, change LED color/brightness, access games, and lock the device.

Biggest advantage is the more precise temp control. Without it you've got 4 heat levels to choose from: 520, 610, 700, and 790 degrees. With it you can set temp at 10 degree increments anywhere within that range.

The era tracks puffs per sessions and I wish they'd incorporate that usage monitoring into the app somehow. The counter resets after 30 min or so and the info is shown via the 4 LEDs which takes some decoding, so not too useful as is.

I had one of mine clog up on me this weekend though. I was out in the forest puffing on a super jack and when I went to put the Blackberry Kush one. It was clogged. I set it at high tempo and took a drag and it became unclogged. I think it happens because it was really thick oil with live resin, it wasn't a pod from bloom farms however. I believe it was temple extract one that was very viscous.

@Ojan_at_PAX any plans to sell pods in more states as recreational/medical gets rolled out in more areas?

and are refillable pods completely off the table, or is there still some considerations for this?

very curious. I'm teetering on the edge of a purchase and answers to these questions will help guide this choice.

Thank you

Hey! We're definitely excited for Era's future. Although we initially launched in CA and CO, we're already now available in OR, WA, and NV a few months later. Keep an eye on us :)

I don't get too much insight into what the Product team is tinkering around with, but we're aware of the interest in refillable pods.

I can't believe you guys aren't worried about pesticides.
That's just one reason I prefer to grow my own.
