Hex-Nail (HN-01) - RIP

Honestly I can't see much reason to waste money on supporting the Sub as its user base isn't that big (nor do I expect it to grow exponentially) and for dry herb the Flowerpot seems to be on the top with nothing beating it at the moment.
This is why I can understand why it's not going to be a priority for the girls at Hex. I only ask because they've mentioned several times that it's something that they're planning to implement. I know the Sublimator guys are working on a similar app-controlled power delivery for their rig (anything has to be better than their current setup), but if I have the choice I'd rather support a couple of legit, hardworking, honest chicks than a larger company whose marketing ethics are questionable. I'd also rather have a single device that could run a Sub and Liger from the one unit.

This is definitely the first time I've seen anyone claim the Flower Pot to be a better dry herb vape than the Sub, though. I think the Flower Pot's great and if I had confirmation that Sub support was coming for the Hex-Nail, I'd seriously consider picking up both a Hex-Nail and a Flower Pot to tide me over until the Sub support is implemented. I know there's some seriously draconian bullshit going on in this forum that frowns upon people calling a spade a spade when it comes to product and marketing criticisms, but I will say this; most of the official marketing of the Sublimator that I've seen is... questionable. Some of the "biogasification", "thermal equilibrium", "sublimation", etc marketing terms are laughable at best. At worst, they're capitalizing on a demographic that they know is not well versed in the sciences. That aside, I don't believe there's a vape out there with better heat retention and a better atomizer than the Sub. The difference may not be huge, but fuck it- I want the best.

I'm wondering that the HexNail isn't still optimized for the Sub. I thought this already happened since HN has a loaned Sub a few months ago?

I guess main difference in performing is the Sub is a convection/conduction vape while the FP is a real convection vape. Didn't have tested neither the OGFP nor the SH but believe from all what I've read that both are much more smoother than the Sub whose profile is a little harsh for my liking. I've the HerbTi which seem to be similar smooth as the FP (to which i would like the HN optimized too)

What's the currrent state about optimization of the HN for different vapes? Is anyone ready? I'm hearing FP, D-Nail, CCA Liger, Bangers? Ready or still under construction?

I think some of it is from the Hex-Nail using 120 and 240 V coils. The Sub heaters are 36V I think.

IIRC the issue for us was the 36V DC it wants. After playing with it for awhile and trying a few things... We just had to put it on the back-burner with so much still going on (re: no sleep) when we realized it would be tougher than we thought. We enjoyed using it, but since it was a loaner controller we didn't want to try running improper power through it (potentially damaging it).

We want to be the jack-of-all-trades, but we also want to be the master of what we do. We gotta take one over the other right now. If things start looking up and we have more people to work with, more will get done faster.

Tunings will always be 'in the works', but we admit some of them are rough right now. We have a few customers that have helped dial in multiple new tunings we will be implementing for the 30mm Liger + Inserts in our v2.0 release. Once we put a v2.0 test rig together we'll be updating some tunings and hopefully getting back to adding new ones regularly.

But...we have plenty of customers using nails we don't have tunings for and just not selecting one. ie. All our customers running bangers. We have some generic "Light, Medium, or Heavy" tunings in place that work for some other nails quite well, too. We've had a few people let us know they're being put to good use.

Please remember guys...We are 2 people. Though I may make it seem simple or quick sometimes this all is a slow process until we have more man power. There's only so many hours in the day and we are really wearing down here, y'all. We need a break. :rip:

We're headed back cross-country to Oregon and moving into a new place in less than a week. We hit the road Sunday. We are literally going to be soldering & coding in our rooms when we stop, etc. We still gotta pack and we are wrapping up the Final Five 1.2s for shipment.

How do you update the Hex when a new update comes out ? I was looking through all the options the other night and see update info but no actual way to hit anything and update , just wondering how it works so i am prepared.

Depending on initial interest / sales we're considering going with a 'Batch Cap' system where you'd make a down payment (50% down) which allows you to choose the wood you want and guarantees that combination will be produced in the next batch.

That sounds like an awesome idea! I love supporting creators who do custom work like HexNail. But what usually happens to me is I gather my shekels and place a custom order.. Weeks/months goes by and my washer/car/PC breaks, which I repair right away... Only to recieve an email notifying me my order is ready to ship the very next day :o. It's like clockwork!

Your Batch Cap method seems like it'd be a great way to prevent my issue. Reducing the cost of the payment that might come up at a flexible date, and giving us a window to make that payment, should ensure every custom order goes to the one who wanted it most. Love the idea; definitely will be looking to get in on a batch.

Yeh I agree, I'd be more than happy to put a 50% deposit down.

I'll definitely be aiming to be in an early batch for the 02. I'm tweaking to try this out with a flower pot.

The Hex does not light up. Folks already complain the HN-01 screen is like the fist of the north star.
------
However...The Red Queen [HN-02] had it's soft launch last night along with our new site. I think I got to most folks that asked for a warning. If not, this is it.

I was going to wait to post here on FC until the announcement later today but the fact of the matter is...there's only 5 reserve slots left. We'll put up the rest of the parts stock we have for this round (10 more units) up at $300 once those run out.

We can finally hook up our own network in the new place. *hallelujah chorus*

End of October launch. No 8-10 months waiting period here again. Unless you drag your feet, I suppose.

Which means DabOS/2 should be coming before that, and any current HN-01 order / unit / coil issues in our queue will finally be getting wrapped up.

Looks great Ava , can you go into a little detail in what the DabOs/2 will have and if it can be aplied to the HN-01's ? Also the new site update looks great but how come you took off the HN-01 and all the info pertaining to it ?

All mighty exciting!

I've got my order in.

What are folks opinions on getting a spare coil? I'm in the UK so it would make sense to add it to the order now if it's needed. I don't know how frequently the coils need replacing.

Not ALL info. There's slideshow pics at the bottom. :D

tbh I was going for about 76 hours straight working on the new content (and the site itself). Just haven't had the chance to add the OOS SKU or info on the HN-01. Should be up in a couple days at most.

Yes it can be applied to the HN-01. v2.0 / DabOS/2 are the same release. We're just children of the tech industry in the 90s that wrote our own operating system and it's our second release so...we made it official. Haha.

Not sure where I lost part of my above post, but this also means that any outstanding HN-01 orders / issues / coils will be taken care of very soon as well. We have no forsaken or forgotten anyone.

Don't worry. We take care of our own. ;)

What do I need to use this with my flowerpot without soldering and etc? Just the 20mm coil offered on the HN site?
Yup yup. And if you have an appropriately wired coil already you're good to go. If you think you've got a coil that works already, ask us first. We'll confirm via PM.

We've finally started to get a little flower under our hood now that our stash has returned post road-trip (albeit, quite gutted. Heh).

Note though: Coils are a ways off too I'm updating the site now with that info. We have some in stock and a few orders to fill for them so bear with us on that if you're already a current owner. 220v coils especially have been scare and tough to lock down for us lately but we have more on the way.

EDIT: Uh...2 spots left.
