Multi-brand Vivant Alternate

Damn. Mine has the same cracks. They were so thin at first I thought I had just somehow scratched it on something but now you can clearly see it is cracked and getting worse. Really stinks as this is my favorite device currently but I won't be buying another until they release 2.0 or something. Hopefuly S&B eventually releases a swappable battery portable.

I also received the V3 top cap today. There is indeed some kind of little circular vent just above where the big silver screw/heat sink lives. The whole thing is a millimeter or so thicker. so far, it stays much cooler during operation than the OG top cap.

My unit had cracks too but in different areas, around the top of the bowl and the USB port. I like this vape enough that I actually bought 2 when they were dirt cheap so I would have a backup. Such a shame they didn't just build the whole thing right, the first time. I'm with you @Cheesequake. They've got to create a more durable product if they want customers to even stick around long enough for a V2.0.

Waiting for winter
I have already RMA’d one Alternate for the top cracks. After a while, it will start to affect the airflow thru the unit.

Can anyone post pics of a disassembled v3top cap?

this device is slowly disintegrating :(

So how many of us have that nice crack going between the screws on top of the unit?

edit: pics and format

I wonder if you can attached some kind of metal sheets inside the unit to prevent the heat breaking the plastic.

hello, my mouthpiece lasted 2 days very disappointed with my alternate

It's really frustrating to deal with stuff like that, and I'm so sorry.

However, this is FuckCombustion and I would be remiss not to say that the Alternate (for me) is doing an AMAZING job assisting in the fucking of combustion. The Alternate is a badass motherfucking vape when it works right. It chugs through battery very quickly, but that's because it has some real power!

The vapor is true convection, there might be some slight amount of conduction but only if the bowl is packed tight. Anyways, most users here like a tad of conduction with their convection (Supreme, Evo, etc).

The top of the vape gets very hot, but I'm okay with that because I'm blown away by the clouds at 428, especially if I mix a little hash in with the weed.

Anyways, I'm not sure what the point of this post is, just wanted to mention that there are some of us that are extremely happy with their Alternate and haven't had any problems with the build quality.

My sense is that this is a batch issue, because it's weird that some people have problems right away and some (like me) seem to have no problems at all. I'm not babying my unit, I run high temp bowls back to back until the battery dies.

So thumbs up, @Vivant !!!! I know you guys have had some trouble along the way but the quality of the vapor this unit produces is so high relative to the price that I have no doubt there are better days ahead for the company and this vaporizer.

A few questions for @Vivant ...

1. Is there an ETA on a proprietary WPA solution? This vape shines through water.

2. Is it possible that the Vivant could have a power adapter somewhere down the line? Or some type of charger that allows for pass-through usage? This little bugger hits like a desktop vape, and I so badly wish it WAS a desktop vape.

3. (This is more of a recommendation/ramble) This heating system + bowl assembly is so effective that I can't help but imagine it repurposed into a plugin-vaporizer. A bulkier version of the Vivant with a cord power source, a better heatsink, and a WPA...sheesh, that'd be nice.

PS: @KeroZen and @AJS I know you guys are the battery experts around here. Is it lazy to ask for a link to buying batteries that will work in the Alternate? I tried the e cig forums and my head is spinning, I'm worried I'll buy fakes/rewraps/the wrong amps...

PPS: So, there's no WPA out yet...where there's a will, there's a way!

My sense is that this is a batch issue

My sense is lousy material and mechanical engineering perhaps coupled with lousy QA.

I'm sorry, but this is three times to the well on a CU, cracking bodies, bad smells and melting plastic, cracking top plates between the screws, and everything else.

I do like the Vivant CS presence and they seem to be very customer focused and I was hoping for a high quality product. But this ain't one of those yet, IMO.

For those whose Alternate is working perfectly with no troubles, I am very glad for you and Vivant. But I just don't have enough confidence in the materials engineering of this device, personally.

Is anyone able to do me a big favour and see how much the postage to Sydney Australia is for one mouthpiece please? For some reason my computer won't let me see how much it is. Vivant replied by PM but didn't tell me how much the postage is.

Dummy address - Sydney Town Hall 483 George St, Sydney NSW 2000 Australia.

This looks like the old style mouthpiece Aka top cap. Be sure you get the newest V3 version. I would contact vivant about it and they could probably also assist with the shipping info.

How did you get the shipping quote to work?

I have been trying to order one for 24 hours now and am worried they'll sell out. Is there any chance you could please help me find out the shipping costs to Sydney Australia?

This is the link that @Vivant posted themselves yesterday for us to buy the V3.0 mouthpieces.

FUCK CANCER TOO !
Just my two cents but those top plate cracks kinda look like stress cracks, possibly due to contracting and expansion of the plastic against the "anchor" of the hex screws. I've used my unit maybe five or six times, total, and can already see the beginning of a hairline crack stemming from the center screw!

So @Vivant , what are your plans? Are you just going to send RMA's to your customers until our 24 month warranties expire?

Hey everyone I have two units and both have the stress fractures at the top were the 3 screws are as seen in the posts above. I also noticed that one of them has a large crack at the usb port I find this strange as I have only used the port once to update the firmware I charge my batterys externally and I don't notice any heat at all at the bottom of the unit. I'm hoping to receive the new mouthpieces in a few days does anybody have any info on how there holding up so far.

I just received my new V3 top cap in the mail as well as a brand new Alternate unit altogether due to a crack that went from the base of the device to the micro usb bort as well. Just so happened that my warrantied device was sent in right around the time when the V3 top cap was released, so I have the new V3 top cap in, but I am having some concerns.

My concerns with the V3 top cap are the way that it connects and disconnects from the device as a stock device. Right now with my stock V3 top cap sliding out from the top of the device to then connect and disconnect the top cap from the chamber, there is a noticeably higher amount of pressure applied directly on the area of the device where many members are receiving their cracks.

As I was writing this message I did a modification where I removed the little rubber piece that is designed to make the vapor path smaller/narrower to the mouthpiece and I notice that if you tighten the screw just right, you get the perfect amount of airflow, but my guess is a messy sticky topcap inside due to a bigger area that the vapor is contacting.

Hello Fat Freddy,

These types of issues are not common. We believe the hairline cracks are caused by the force/stress exerted upon installing the battery. I do advise you to be mindful when installing/removing the battery, excessive force can worsen the hairline crack(s).

There is no need for immediate concerns that is required on your parts. In your case I would just advise you to take the necessary precautions to avoid worsening the hairline crack.

Customers who bought from either us or an authorized re seller can expect to be warrantied for any of these hairline cracks through our warranty process via e-mail at support@vivant.com

To see if you purchased from one our authorized re-sellers you can visit this link here: https://vivant.store/community/store-locator

We strive to provide our customers with quality experiences and products with their satisfaction in mind. We are always learning from our customers and taking necessary measures to ensure we deliver better products, better quality, better features, and better service.

Thank you,

Vivant Team

My Alternate also has these stress cracks between the screws.

The V3 topcap fits much tighter than the previous cap and it seems to be stressing the cracks even more. It's so tight when it's cool that it feels like it's gonna break and it opens with a hard snap. It makes you second guess on if you are opening it the right direction. Once it's warm it swings open smoothly to empty.

The airflow seems a little less resistive with the V3 cap. I had to close down the green damper a little to get the feel of the previous cap. All is good now.

I can guarantee this has nothing to do with the cracks on my unit. It's a heat issue. Just like the mouthpiece.

I can second this as both my units have the cracks. When I insert a battery I have always put my finger on top of the unit so there is no flex. This is definitely a heat and poor material issue.vivant can you explain the cracks that are forming around the usb ports especially when most people including myself use external chargers there for only using the port to update firmware?
