Web/App controls only? That should lower the price a little.
So, since I've been late on the announcement due to some personal issues and solidifying the specs I'll just confirm.

Yup. Headless unit is going to drop with the release of the app.

We're still working on some of the software issues and we know it's frustrating for some folks. We apologize for any problems they have caused down stream and we will do our best to rectify any problems as soon as possible once we are resettled in Oregon.

We've been in a very, very tight spot the last month or so and it's been getting harder and harder to work in the space we're in. We have a move in a week that should allow us to get back to full speed on the software side of development. The app is being worked on constantly and should remedy a LOT of bugs that have been encountered previously as we're essentially going to be making it the 2.0 software release for all the HN-01s as well.

@HexNailAva,
please, here my open question again. Just for clarification the HN 02 will not have no touchscreen anymore? Controlling only by app? If I want to start and control the HN I can do it only by using a smartphone and while going online?? Why that? I even have no smartphone and don't intend to buy one. May be this additional option is interesting for many people but ONLY by app? I'm pretty sure that would lower the interest of a LOT of potential customers if this would be the case.
Sorry, I dislike all this "i" only stuff. Modern nonsense. Hope I'm wrong.....

Id imagine you can still control it via web interface too.

Is the HN-02 going to completely phase out the HN-01, or will the 01 model still be available? My concern is the same as Hogni's. Don't get me wrong, I am usually sitting in front of a computer with my gear right beside me, so having a smartphone handy is a non-issue for me. What worries me is that if I'm in a situation where I can't use a desktop or a laptop (let alone join a wifi network to control it), I'm screwed!

That's my fear that that the new HN can only used while being online regardless by smartphone or any other computer device.

EDIT: Yepp, implantation of FP devices will be the next step how HN told on instagram

Holy FUD Batman......Give the chicks time to actually release something before jumping all over it.
For instance......The Kube is "app only" yet it has a physical button that can be used to turn the coil off and on, beyond the normal power breaker and beyond the normal "second circuit switch" as it is actually a soft switch that COULD do a lot more than just turn off and on the coil without the app. The unit remembers all your settings and brings them right back when you use the button, its super easy, super simple, super clean, super NOT SCARY AT ALL.

As an aside, id sure like my issues with my hn01 addressed BEFORE a new model drops, but I'm ALL FOR another headless "I" heater of top quality on the market.

Aside #2, its 2017 FFS, get a smartphone, no need to have service or a number but damn near anyone is doing themselves an extreme disservice by avoiding having 1 at this point due to their sheer functionality.

edit to clarify: once the headless Kube is setup, its need no app or connectivity whatsoever beyond power to function......much as I'm sure the hn02 will be.

Is there any plans to add a Flowerpot profile?

It's in the works now. We're hoping to add it soon after the app / new units launch. Re-building our test rig after the launch is going to be one of my personal priorities so we can finally start expanding the tuning libraries more.

Don't worry. While we are going to be focusing on the HN-02 for now the touchscreens will return (Q2 2018). Once we get settled in a couple months and move some HN-02s we will hopefully be doing some small exotic runs, trade-show exclusive runs, and giveaways for more HN-01s.

Also, while HN-02 will be quite 'smart', we are doing our best to make sure it can function off the grid. We want it to be seen as a good portable solution, too. I'll have shots incoming soon.

Id imagine you can still control it via web interface too.

There are still lots of people interested in the HN-01 and as I said above the touchscreen will make a return for sure...but we've had tons of requests for a headless unit.
------
And...to be honest, the company would be through if we kept manufacturing the HN-01 the way it is currently.

Each unit takes around 4 - 6 hours to mill all the parts on the CNC. Then 2 more for enclosure assembly (clamps, glue up, etc.) which sit overnight. Sand & Oil starts the next morning and takes around 3 hours depending on the wood. Wax is next and after the first coat / buff / coat round, we apply another and leave them to sit overnight. The wax is buffed in the next morning, any burrs for the jacks are filed off. The final coat of oil goes on (another hour or so for the last steps).

It takes around 12 hours of elbow grease and 2 nights to finish each enclosure alone. While we of course do more than one at a time for some of these steps. We are only 2 people. We just couldn't keep killing ourselves to not even make rent for the month.

But again, fear not. It will return. We just have to do a design overhaul to streamline the process. Once more (or any) RND funds are available it's a top priority.

Is the HN02 going to have a small screen or no screen? It sure would be nice to be able to change/see temperature/profiles from the device without any additional peripherals. I posted this in February.

I'm hoping to see a smaller controller with the beautiful wood enclosure and no touch screen or anything like that. Just an MP3 player sized OLED (maybe like the MaxVapor unit). Something similar to your typical enail controller, tuned to specific nails like this so you get the performance functionality without the fluff. I honestly don't see the point of a touch screen, provided the nails are as tuned as claimed I dont have a reason to see direct realtime feedback

It has no screen, but it will have a...'modern' light ring (it's a little different than what might immediately comes to mind) that will indicate temperature, errors, hardware issues (ie. No Coil), etc.

Oh, and as a fun little tidbit of info for those of you that like the insider info...

Both the HN-01 & the HN-02 have internal Project / Codenames that were used before we finalized all the branding for 'Hex-Nail' and gave them HN numbers.

HN-01 was referred to as 'Project: Skynet' :D
HN-02 has lovingly been called 'Project: Red Queen' ;)

Hi Ava - wow....I haven't bought an HN yet as I have two controllers and many other things to pay for right now (like new carpet...sigh LOL).

But it has been on my radar for quite some time and I did see and use the HN-01 at @mutten840 and really liked it.

I guess I just want to express my not-so-important vote for a control head. Personally, while I don't mind apps as an addendum to built in controls, I would almost certainly not be interested in a controller that depended on an app or browser connection.

Little bit of feedback, for what's its worth.

I'm coming around to the idea of having a separate controller and screen.

I like the idea of a small headless unit that still provides all the functionality of the HN-01 but in a much smaller package (assuming it's much smaller).

I come from a technical background though so I'm immediately seeing all manner of ways to setup a nice vape station with an old tablet or mobile (or even cheap smart watch) mounted on a desk stand. I feel that the HN-01 all in one format should still be available in some form but personally I'm looking forward to the HN-02. Assuming there is a UK variant this may be my next purchase in conjunction with a Flowerpot Shower Head and some compact glass.

Is there any ETA or price estimate somewhere? I am ready to buy a Flowerpot ASAP and need a controller. Depending on the price I would be very interested in this with the FP profile in the works. I feel like the hybrid nature of the Flowerpot would benefit from a custom profile more than anything, so I remain curious. Maybe even a hotkey for flower hit, concentrate hit, or double decker :D

I think you're giving the profiles a little too much credit, they are more for mass and material differences in the nails the box will heat, a flower vape sesh vs a dab vs a double decker couldn't really make that much of a difference if the nail material and mass never changes, the box is smart, but not that smart. It'd be like having a "tuning" for a certain material vs another on the same nail, there just wouldn't be enough change the tuning could effect to make any difference whatsoever. To clarify, the profiles are a benefit and do offer visible results but thats when swapping nails around and there are more variables the box can actually change.

Edit: There is no reason to hold off on buying a Hexnail of either version, just because there isn't a tune for your nail, case in point, the hex doesn't have a saph halo tune yet I get her chugging just like i can the Sic halo that does have a tune

Can users generate their own profiles by tweaking settings and saving them?

Can users share those profiles?

Is 2.0 going to be compatible with Android Wear 2.0? Tempted by a Sony Smart Watch 3 as a basic smart interface.

Did a search of this thread for "user generated profiles" but didn't get any results.

Also assume the 2.0 is going to bring new features that might include the features I'm asking about.

You can select NONE from the nail menu and modify any of the PID values (which are the tunes themselves) although I don't see where you could save them as a preset or something beyond keeping the values though a power off.

You can post you PID values for others, I'm pretty sure there have been some posted in the Twax thread and possibly the sublimator....could be wrong though as I read a lot of threads.

And I was prolly lazy to call them profiles instead of tunes, profiles in the Hexnail world typically refers to the per user profiles, where every user can have everything setup for them and have different presets and PID values.....ok, then that would be how to save custom tunes, you'd make a separate user profile for each tune and save them.

Nice, thanks for the info.

The more I think about the HN-02 the more I like it.

If it's android wear 2.0 compatible and the Sony smartwatch 3 is in anyway functional as a day to day interface then I think I could get a nice compact setup with the right e-nail, fp model and glass.

Got me scheming my next VAS target setup. :D

Respectfully, I'm not sure you understand how the Flowerpot works. Flower mode, meaning I might want a different temperature for a flower only hit, versus dab mode, which could be another temperature. Just as I might want a different hotkey for a one hitter flower hit, versus a flower session. This would be even more useful in this new Hex Nail device which will not feature a display.

Full understanding, not a complex device or concept. You're not talking tunings or PID differences at all then it sounds like, just simple 1 button temp changes, which the 01 can for sure do and the 02 Im pretty sure, with atlas 1 soft button, like the Kube has...will also do.
