Looking for advice to making the switch to vaping

I'm seeking help and advice to quit combusting.

I've been smoking cannabis together with tobacco for something like 15 years. During the week, each day i smoke 1 to 3 joints after work and that number can rise during the weekend. My joints always contain close to one entire cigarette. I used to smoke cigarettes but I stopped that several years ago, that smell disgusts me now. However out of habit I guess I never did/could stop adding tobacco, also all my friends smoke like this. A few years ago I already tried to stop combusting, I bought an Arizer Solo but after a few days I stopped trying to switch and went back to combustion. It has been laying in a drawer ever since. Oh and I also bought a Vapor Genie but I find that using a lighter is cumbersome and I'd prefer to use an electric vape.

I think somehow my brain is addicted to the combo weed/tobacco. The weird thing is that I can go on holidays without smoking anything for several days and I don't feel bad or anything. For a few weeks I've been thinking about trying to quit combustion again, honestly it's weird but the taste of joints with tobacco disgusts me a bit but I still like that buzz. Kind of like a love/hate thing.
I've been reading a few threads on the forum and after reading a few stories it seem that taking a break and starting vaping seems to help some people. Tomorrow is our last day of holidays in Croatia so I haven't smoked anything for 8 days, I guess this is a good time to try to switch.
Usually when we get back from holidays and I get home I get a big craving for smoking, my plan, and this will be my first challenge, is to get home and use my solo instead of smoking and see how it goes. After 8 days I guess a single bowl will get me pretty high but as said I'm really not used to vapor and I'm a little afraid that I will not be satisfied with the high, in the past that's the point where I'd get back to combustion, so this will be my second challenge.

Hopefully writing this post will make me less prone to just get back to combusting.

Lastly I wanted to ask if someone could recommend the temperature level to use on my solo to have a thicker smoke to start since I read that might help me.

Thank you guys!

I think the hard part is going to be the tobacco part. You get an entirely different when you mix weed and tobacco and you are going to miss that high at first for sure. I recommend starting at 4 or 5 for the solo if you want clouds. You might want to consider getting a plug in vape as well as they generally "hit" much harder.

I'm fairly new also. I still smoke flower cause I like the smell/taste &high the weed gives. For my oil I purchased a melo3 and have leaking problem. Now I use the magneto. Burns oil nice. Only downfall is it is a one hitter . No bowl to fill for multiple use like my me lo but doesn't leak. If there are better mods I am listening.

I do not have a Solo but have a good recommendation

Get a WPA ( water pipe adapter) for your Solo and and bubbler and go to town on those high heat Vapors! I did not find vaping until I popped the vape on a bubbler

My approach...Bless the Herb, grind the herb to as fine as possible (surface matter exposure) and load the vape. turn it on to 375 degrees F to start out.. hit it native first few draws to absorb as many terpenes ( flavors!) as possible. when the initial flavor wears out turn the vape up ten degrees and switch to a bubbler to begin to finish the sesh out... I bump the vape @ ten degree heat intervals until it is as high as it will go= Me Too LOL

A few tips- rebreath... a simple way to conserve your stash ( vaporizing instantly does that too!) and keep the medically active agents in the plant actively working on your behalf..
breath in a hit, hold it for a few secs up to ten but five seconds is normal then start to rebreathe out... once you start to see the vapor leaving your mouth rebreath back in and hold a few more secs... rebreath back out until you see vapor ETC.... I do this up to 5 times depending on quality and flavor of the herb..
this is the beauty of vaping is the flavors and slow terpene and active compound introduction Cleanly( no smoke) to your cb receptors... that is the true benefit and is why you can rebreathe vapor and it not be smoky nasty doing so...

Near the end of a high heat sesh the flavor gets quite harsh but you will still get canna actives and even the more sedating compounds that relax and sedate like smoking does... so, that is the switch over protocol IMO

here is the cheap glass thread...

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/cheap-high-quality-bubbler.5255/page-984#post-1153836

and @Ed's TnT has the Solo wpa adapters for using on a bubbler... they are made of wood = wood is good

Thanks for the suggestions. This seems tempting but I guess before buying mods and stuff I will make sure that I keep up with vaping.

Little report for day 1: So yesterday we got back from holidays. We got home quite late and I had to drive so I was kind of tired and in the end didn't even smoke/vape. We just went to bed, the good thing is that I had time to get used to sleeping without being high during our stay in Croatia and so it didn't even bother me, I guess being very tired also helped. Tonight I will get my solo out and see how it goes, funny thing is that I don't even want to smoke currently which is unusual for me.

I felt the same as you 4yrs ago

I was able to stop cigs quite easy but not the big fat ones :)

Did a 3weeks break from everything and then an solo bowl blowed out of my mind the pavlov reflex smoke/pelasure

Never felt the wish to smoke anything since

Good luck

Day 2: Last evening I got my solo out, packed a bowl and set temperature to 4. And I promptly got blasted to the moon  I don't know if it's because I didn't smoke for 9 days or so but holy hell I don't think I ever got so high in all my life. I didn't even think about smoking. I still need to learn how to manage temperature, I basically stayed at 4 and slowly got up to 6 at some point. At some point I even felt like I was too high, I need to better learn how to get where I want. Should I start at a lower temperature than 4 maybe? I shall experiment more!

This sounds very similar to my situation. As said, yesterday I got so high, I've rarely been so high so I guess it's working ;)

If you're getting good results keep at it! Just be sure not to fall back into your old habits or you'll start finding it harder and harder to replicate that feeling.

If you think you're getting good results now you definitely ought invest in a bubbler and a wong stem or an adapter of sorts that will let you pair with water.

I've never owned or used a solo, but it is a known and long favored workhorse.

It may no longer be the champ, but it's always a contender!

This is brilliant well done, keep it up.
I'm doing same as you and have a mighty it's like a steam train so missing dense hits is not an issue but missing nicotine hit hmmm now that is the issue

Day 3: Still no smoking, yay I guess! However yesterday evening I kinda missed something, I guess the feeling of smoking. Also I realised my solo is kinda too good at making me high, a few puffs and I'm high as fuck, which I guess is good in a way but when smoking I could smoke a joint over 30min or something and I miss that feeling of taking it slowly. Hopefully this feeling goes away soon.

Trying hard to not get back into my old habits for the moment, hopefully I'll stick to it. I'm going to take a look at the bubbler thingy, but I'm from Switzerland so I suppose the shipping will kill me.

Thanks for the encouragement, keep it up dude we can do it ;) We'll not be slave to nicotine anymore.

Day 4: Hardest day yesterday, we went to the restaurant with friends and drank quite a bit. I nearly thought I was going to smoke but when getting home I turned on my solo and got blasted. Life is good.

Yeah when I get the urge to smoke, I think about the disgusting taste.

It seems what you're really missing is the tobacco since you admit you are getting high and maybe to high as compared to before.

You may want to start with a lower temperature like 2 or 3 and step the temperature up after every 5-6 puffs. This way you extend your sessions out longer. The thing with lower temps is you don't get the same amount of vapor so if you're missing smoke and like to see clouds on exhale temp stepping may suck for you.

generally people switching from combustion go into vaping hot and heavy then back off when they learn to dose with the vape.. you can tailor the high somewhat with vape temperature... mostly a head high or body high are the two differences with temp adjustments.. one could be considered day time and the other night time

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
Also you can try a smaller bowl device like vapcap

Or fill the solo bowl only 1/2 or 1/3 and tamp it against glass screen, bump up temp and get fewer nice hits (less material-less high)

Get a quality butane torch, butane fuel a hydratube from dhgate and sticky brick maxx, mix ur tobacco and buds together and fill that thing to the brim, it will be the cloest thing to smoking imo, hits hard without the combustion

I haven't posted for a while. I still haven't smoked a single joint which I'm happy about, I think the feeling of missing tobacco is slowly going away but it's still there. I'm noticing that sometimes I cough when puffing from my solo so as it was suggested I might look at getting a bubbler or something (this should help right?).

a bubbler will help that irritation some and allow hotter temps during vaporization which are more sedative in effects...

Someone suggested the vapcap. If you continue vaping you might try the vapcap m. The advantage that or other on-demand vapes have is that you can take a hit and then wait a while before taking another. You could easily vape one small load over a 20 minute period. I microdose and use the tubo or MVT over 30 minutes or so since the herb is only being used when I inhale.

It's been a few days I haven't posted (We went to Disneyland Paris, yay). Anyways, to my surprise I still haven't smoked. I even shared my solo with a friend, who liked it but still rolled a joint afterwards, that I didn't smoke on. I will definitely be looking at a bubbler I think because I always start coughing after puffing for a while.

I'd say the only thing I could say as a bad thing about the solo is that I feel sometimes that the puffing resistance is a bit strong. That might be because I have a filter in my solo's tube (I don't like eating grass). Is this specific to the solo or do all vaporizer have a stronger resistance to drawing from it? I might try to remove my filter and see if it improves

One more thing, C No Ego you recommended some threads, I'll be checking them out but I was wondering if someone could recommend a website where I can order these things in Europe?

I had the solo 1 and it did have strong draw resistance. I believe that's been fixed in the new solos. And none of my current vapes have much draw resistance.
