Vapes on Planes - Traveling With Vaporizers

When traveling, do you all use dispensary packaging or do you put it in a different package? Specifically referring to edibles and concentrate containers.

Edibles: I mix with non-medicated edibles, and sometimes I'll go through the trouble of scraping off any symbols...usually not worth the effort. With edibles I'll break down the main piece into serving sizes first as well, just for sake of not dealing with it later. When shit starts melting and sticking together that's when you get issues.

How do you guys feel about traveling with concentrate cartridges that thread to a typical ecig 510 thread battery with no markings?

Just flew from Portland to Sacramento with a cart. Fits on the O.pen2. I put it into a black paper squeeze clip, then into check in. The battery went into the carry on. I wouldn't try this going to an illegal state. There is still risk, but I've heard of some that have flown dozens of times with carts.

Doing suspicious things like this is more risky than just leaving the cartridge in plain sight lol. I'm not sure if you're familiar with how Xray machines work but they can see right through this. When you try to hide stuff like this it looks like you're smuggling something.

I carry my vape with batteries out and in prescription vials (perfect size for them!) but other than that I don't disassemble it further. Never had an issue- they're usually more worried about the CPAP I also lug around.

Im still carrying my vapes on plane, dosmetic and international. Its beem 5 years. Never had a single issue. I try to keep devices clean and with a nice smell proof bag but it happened that i jad no iso to clean before flight or train and everything went ok.
sometimes my carry bag is cheked because i have ecigs and liquids but they never notice the mighty among that :)
Then i think its a personal choices, most important is to responsible and assume the risk youre taking.

Coming from a legal state, I think you are safe to play the ignorance card ... at least once. I wouldn't fly outside of the USA to a place that is against cannabis though, but within the US you are likely fine. TSA will turn your stuff over to local authorities who then decide whether or not to prosecute you. For a pen, or a little personal use oil (even flower...?) I doubt they'll go through the trouble. I've flower with flower, oil, concentrates, edibles, and now disposable pens. If the airport has a smoking lounge, I'll use it...if I need to use it (fall asleep on a place, usually).

Hey Guys,

Planning to travel to Italy from Toronto. Wanted to know if getting a Toko slim through security/customs without raising suspicions. I'm also considering sending them through the mail to the apartment that I'm staying at.

Thoughts?

I was planning to declare it as a disposable e-cigarette? Would that make it any less Shady?

I don't know if it's worth the risk but I also think that there's no chance that anyone in Italy will recognize it as what it is. You should be pretty safe with a pen like that, anyway I would tell it's an e cig only if asked, otherwise just don't declare anything.
Have a nice holiday in my country!

Thanks for the tip brother! I'm already bringing some traditional cigarettes to declare. I'm still not totally sold, even though I have a another package that says "disposable e-cigarette" to them into. I'm thinking the mail might be a better idea after all, even if it won't be immediate. What's the transit time like for air mail into a major Italian city like Rome from North America?

Takes about 2 weeks for a usps parcel to get to the UK from america. You'll be fine carrying it. I have travelled with my crafty in my hand luggage to Amsterdam and taken it in my suitcase to Mauritius and to thailand. I packed it in the original box.

The general feeling that I am getting from everyone that I'm speaking to is that I should just pack them (2 small co2 disposables) in my hand luggage and act as if they are normal. I'm still pretty rattled by CBSA though... I'm going to be honest.

This, absolutely.
I'm pretty sure that if you manage to take them on the plane you will not have any problem on the italian side but if you don't feel the same for your departure airport maybe is better to send them or just take a holiday break. Regular mail can take just one week but parcels will take at least 10-14 days.

thoroughly vaped
Posted in DV thread, but wanted to share this experience here, too. Flew out of town recently and was TSA pre-check both ways. Had 5 jet lighters with me (some for different situations, but mostly to have enough juice without taking/buying a can of butane). 2 were in checked bag and 3 spread around my carry on. When I was coming home they kept putting my carry on back through the scanner. I thought it was because of my Mi (broken on trip , wrapped in tissues and in camera case).

I was pretty tuned at the time, as we squeezed in a couple hours at a fun beer fest on way to airport. I told TSA yeah, that's my e-cig in the bottom. The guy on the scanner (who seemed a little new) kept putting it through. I was damned near shitting bricks remembering that I didn't clean my broken Mi female GonG. I had cleaned the stems, but never thought about the busted up Mi until now. Anyway, the more senior TSA guy opens my bag and pulls out my longest owned triple torch! It was a beast with a pretty big tank, butane sight glass, and lit 99% of the time it clicked (Scorch Torch Skyline in pic below, but all black). He said these jet lighters aren't allowed on flights. I just said OK and tried not to wince as he took it out and threw it in the trash. Felt lucky to get through with no more issue as I had 2 more jets, an M, a Ti Woody, and my broken Mi with 2 clean stems all in the same bag. I had thought you were allowed to carry 2 lighters on person or in carry-on bag. Checked since and NO jet lighters are allowed at all. The 2 that made it through were the inline triple jet from DV and a flattish dual jet Scorch.

EDIT:
Clipped from another post in another thread, but this bit probably good info for here, too.

It looks as though TSA policy was updated in Nov. 2013. You may carry 1 lighter, but no jet torches in your carry-on or on your person. 2 lighters allowed in checked bag (including jet torch) if they are in DOT approved containers (Q2 below), but none outside of a container unless totally empty. Or, technically as many totally empty lighters (not even residue) in checked bags (Q3 below).

From TSA FAQ Doc dtd. 11/18/13

"Q1. What type of lighter can I bring onto the aircraft?
A1. Under DOT rules (49 CFR 175.10), when traveling on a commercial airline, you can bring one (1) lighter that uses a flammable gas (butane) or that uses a flammable liquid that is absorbed in a lining (Zippo-type). The following restrictions apply:

• For safety reasons, permitted lighters must be in your carry-on or on your person (in your pocket), not in checked baggage. See Q2. regarding special travel containers that allow lighters in checked baggage.

• Under TSA regulations, torch lighters (a.k.a. jet lighters, blue flame lighters, cigar lighters) are forbidden in your carry-on or on your person. TSA rules also prohibit lighters that look like guns or other weapons.

• Containers of lighter fluid or gas (butane) are for bidden in carry-on and checked baggage.

• Micro torches, chef torches, utility torches, etc., are not considered lighters and are forbidden in carry-on
and checked baggage. Fuel for such torches is also forbidden in carry-on and checked baggage.

Q2. Is there any exception to the “one lighter only” rule or the “no torch lighters” rule?
A2. You can bring up to two (2) additional lighters—including torch lighters—in your checked baggage when
you use DOT-approved airtight travel containers for lighters. Major lighter manufacturers such as Colibri, Prometheus, and Zippo have secured DOT special permits for their lighter travel containers... These DOT-approved containers are the only way you can carry the torch lighters that the TSA bans from the aircraft cabin.... These DOT special permits only apply to U.S. domestic air travel.

Q3. Are empty lighters restricted?
A3. A lighter that is truly empty (absolutely no fuel residue or vapors) is not regulated by the DOT as a
hazardous material. There is no limit on how many empty lighters you may carry..."

Considered flowers in the past but never ever have.

When flying pens are just too damn simple.
I always take cleaned devices and brand new atomizers... never had a second look.

Just a dude
My only experience: 2 vapes, one brand new & one used but clean - Intl fight - U.S. (Texas, the big Non-Friendly) to U.K. (Home sweet adopted home) last summer. Traveled lots w/goodstuff before but never with vaporizers, wasn't sure what to expect. In the end my concern was unfounded.

I'm 50 yo with my family, I've always had long, curly hair and I've noticed as I get older it seems I don't get scrutinised or pulled out so much as in the past. My wife and then later, my boys always find it hilarious when I would get extra attention at borders. Haha look at dad being harassed!

NIB Solo 2 in my carry-on (rule on battery devices), this was my biggest worry: getting pulled out & having to explain its purpose, possibly being delayed. Plus, I had eaten quite a bit of high thc chocolate on the way and certainly didn't want to waste that in an interrogation room. You feel me? So I went with my usual: be upfront and ask. When putting all my shit in bins at security I showed the bin with my Solo, tablet, phone etc. to TSA agent and asked if I should open the Solo box. She said "Is it a lap-top?" in an irritated sarcastic tone so I smiled said nope, put it back in my bag & went on through no problem. I had a story about it being a gift for a mate trying to quit smoking just in case, I think it's wise to have a story in your back pocket so you aren't caught out stuttering if confronted. Nothing too elaborate.

Used lovely e-Nano in my checked bag inside a thermal cup, power cord in my carry-on. Never really worried about it so much, I feel that I could sell it as a aromatherapy device and they can suck it. :D

I'm sure it is common knowledge but I believe one's behavior and body language are really important in these situations. Assume before you even enter the passport/security gauntlet that you are being watched on CCTV so just be relaxed. You know, just chatting with fellow travelers (or not) but aware of surroundings AND make eye contact and smile at all TSA, maybe even say hello like they're human? Just my :2c:? It can be difficult to remember as you are being herded and corralled, groped and fondled, scanned and sniffed; such is flying in a post-911 world. But I try to believe most folks, even TSA, are basically good and let them prove me wrong on an individual basis. You may say I'm a dreamer...:peace:

Got back from a trip to Denver last week and I thought I would share my TSA experience. While I didn't fly with any vapes besides a box mod I did really want to take back all of the goodies that I bought while out there. I ended up left with a cartridge, a pre roll, and more than a half a gram of some beautiful rosin that I had been using with a kiss cart I tossed before the airport.

I put the rosin in my toiletries bag and ended up tossing the cart in my checked bag. Of course I had a story for each if they were found but like that last post, there was nothing at all to worry about. Once we got to the airport there was a small scare when I realized I had 2 1/2 gummies in the origional packaging still in my backpack. Ended up going to the bathroom to toss the bottle and gave what I didn't eat to my GF. We were not expecting to eat these so it made an already worrisome trip through security even harrier.

It was rather crowded and it took us about 20 mins to get through. The whole time they kept yelling at people for having bottles of water in their bag and tubes of toothpaste that were too big, this bugged me out as I interperated this as them being very thorough. Slowly we moved on and sure enough my bag went right through. I was surprised! On my trip out there they wanted a second look at my Mod and Kiss cart but this time it seemed like they were pressed for time.

Cherry on top was that while we sat eating out bagels, waiting for our flight to board, I realized that I didn't end up giving that pre rolled joint to our last lyft driver and it was, in fact, still in the front pouch of my backpack. I just about died laughing at my luck and could not believe how worried I was about what was pretty well hidden while I seriously fucked myself without knowing it. I don't condone trying this by any means but in my experience, I just don't think the TSA is looking for pot.

I usually take a small amount of hashish. It blends with a small bag of nuts or snacks. Commercial edibles are really the best thing to take though. I would be to afraid with a vape pen to go international because they might have even harsher laws against hash oil. I just flew to Iceland and had 7 days there with no Cannabis. WHile it would have been fantastic to have some, it wasn't as bad as I had thought.
