Discontinued The Herbalizer

I think they need to focus on redesigning the bowl. Mine leaks vapor often with the cool grips, without the cool grips,

At that price point I should not be having issues with a necessary component for this device. I have had my herbalizer for a long time now but it is easily my least used device at this point.

The Herbalizer is a somewhat unique device but it sorely needs a redesign in a few areas.

The stock whip is horrible, as is the connector between the whip and the bowl. Resin grabber, gets clogged, low airflow.

The bowl is just poorly designed. the cool grips loosen over time, and the top will twist off without warning quite easily. The bowl leaks as well.

The heating element is too exposed to the bowl, and I think that oils can run from the pad down into the Herbalizer internals. There should be some type of runoff, or a finer screen grate under the bowl that you can pop out and clean.

The shell design is too plasticky and it breaks easily.

I still think the Herbalizer heating element and electronic components provide an amazing high. That feeling when you rip harder and the heater ramps up to match your draw level is amazing.

I would kill for a streamlined Herbalizer with a design that made it possible to hit comfortably on a table with a hydra tube.

Mine was deformed by heat.

Can't say how many loads I've lost from the bowl unthreading.

It shouldn't need opened to operate. Nor should the operator need to reach around a bag to turn the fan on or off. Those things create extra work. Which is a big deal when you're weak and have shitty manual dexterity.

I have never even used my Herbie complete bowl as it's not the best. Only bottom half is used.

With the miniVAP Flexicone module pictured below, you can mate a hydratube directly on top of it for a quick/easy/clean technique. You never need to clean a Herbie top screen again. You never have to monkey with removing a hot magnetic bowl as bottom bowl stays in place. You can build it with a degummed hemp fiber filter in the Flexi to keep all those nasty micro herb particles out of your glassware. You can pre-pack Flexis.
images

Note: I had Mighty dosing capsule in lower bowl in this pic for testing. I found the Flexicone modules worked much much better for me
..............................................................................................

For a more secure connection, you can use the Delta 3d Studios Song, as pictured with the Herbie complete bowl (not me) OR with just the bottom half of bowl and the Flexicone snapped into the Song. Hydratube fits more secure with this setup.
Note: with this, you can also insert a whip which is then 10X as secure as the stock whip in stock bowl.

You can have an all-glass pathway with either setup:

With such minor, inexpensive mods, there are major improvements IMO----Herbie is a whole different animal :)

I agree that the magnetic bowl is expensive. But how many have you bought and how long have you had your unit if you don't mind me asking?
I dont think the cool grips play apart in the seal (except with steamrollers)
So either your bowl manufactured incorrectly or something happened over time with the screwing system.

Im very surprised hearing its your least used unit. The vapor quality is still one of the best in my opinion. Its just the form factor that is very inconvenient for my lifestyle and medical issues.

The stock whip is awful, but 7th floor fixes that for us

But then im not/have never had any issues with my bowl leaking.

Definitely needs the new concentrate attachment/technique as you mentioned, along with design shell.

But I'm totally with what your saying about its amazing high. The vapor is very medicinal. And the ability to continually rip it makes it one of the heaviest hitters if your lungs are up to the challenge.

Seriously though. The vape puts out quality vapor.

But, i do also want to mention the fan running/buzzing can get annoying af.
Some users might not care. But it'd be much nicer not having to hear it.

I have tried this in the past with a flexcone I ordered from @stickstones in the past, as he was kind enough to split an order up. However, I didn't have luck when pairing the flexcone with the Herbie adapter that @Ratchett produces. I think that ratchet has made the Herbalizer far more functional but neither my V1 or V2 songs hug the bowl quite tight enough to make a real tight seal.

Are there different sizes of the flexcones and baskets? Could I have just gotten one that didn't size up correctly?

I have gone through two or three sets of coolgrips and although Herbalizer customer service stated that should solve the problem, it definitely did not.

i had not replaced my herbalizer herb chamber, perhaps that will have to be a step I take, but I had not because at the same time I first began posting about it other people posted similar experiences, so I have been hesitant to drop some change into a new bowl.

I believe I have had my herbie for close to 3.5 years. I bought from massdrop when they were still dropping vapes. I actually would like to have my herbalizer calibrated because my vapor production seems kinda spotty at times.

I have definitely had some great sessions with the Herbalizer. Don't get me wrong. However, this vaporizer has been around a fair amount of time and to my knowledge there has been no effort to improve the product itself. We still have the same problematic herb chamber design and poor quality bags (the nozzles leak or tear pretty darn easily), and while I've never personally had much problem with the whip tubing itself, that stupid plastic attachment unhinges from the bowl often.

Many people have come up with alternatives to make the unit function better. SSV tubing, @Ratchett's Song adapters, Volcano solid valve kit in place of the herbie bags, etc. I've used some slight mods to keep the top screens clean and clear. I've actually used all of the above.

It's just a shame in a lot of regards. The Herbalizer is a device that really has potential to be near perfect, but they've never really gone back to the drawing board.

I probably spoke out school a little bit. I said it is my least used vape but in reality it has seen more use than some of my older portables (a few flowermates and an Ascent that will be getting donated to those in need shortly). But it is among those used the least. Most of my vapes are portables although I generally only vape at home.

I've thought about selling the Herbalizer but because it was a massdrop purchase Herbalizer does honor the warranty. Massdrop initially stated they would cover the warranty however once they dropped out of the vape game they stopped answering emails at all. Without there being any option for warranty work I just see that as a big detractor for sale, especially if it's a unit I think would benefit from some calibration.

Perhaps i should buy a replacement herb chamber and see if I have better luck than my current chamber. But I'm also definitely interested in looking more closely at @MinnBobber's flexcone module, as maybe my flexcone is just the wrong size perhaps?

....sorry to hear about your problems with the unit...had mine about 4-5 years myself...maybe luck of draw but I've not experienced any of the problems you identified ...I've replaced cool grips maybe twice...now given I don't use it everyday ...but when I do ...she has never failed me...

@virtualpurple ,
how exactly did you use the Flexicones in Herbie? Any pictures? And did you say you had the Ratchett V1 and V2 Song adapters?
Did you use just the bottom Herbie bowl, as it does not work with the complete Herbie bowl--the goal is to replace the top bowl and its issues :)

The Flexicone itself (the silicone tapered lid) is only one size. The wire baskets are different depths, currently a shallow and a medium.
Once we know exactly what you used and the issue again, hopefully we can figure out a solution.
For me, Flexis with bottom half of Herbie bowl works soooooo much better than stock.

I don't have any pictures unfortunately. However I was attempting to use it similar to how you have outlined. Sometimes I would sit the flexcone chamber in the bottom half of the herbie chamber and try to place @Ratchett's adapter on top of the two. My adapter isn't tight on the herb chamber so leakage still occurs. I have also tried forcing the flexcone into the adapter and then placing them on top of the bottom herbie chamber but my flexcone nozzle is too narrow to stay in place.

Ive read the Storz and Bikel dosing capsules work with the Herbalizer.

Anyone tested?

I have used them. I believe that I liked them okay but didn't prefer them. I can't recall the reason now so I will have to try again.

@MinnBobber I was able to have a little more success with the flexcone. I added a few o-rings to the nozzle and the cone will now stay seated inside my @Ratchett adapters.

I was unable to find the basket that came with my flexcone so I have been using an EQ basket (if I recall correctly), which are slightly smaller if memory serves. In fact, with the Herbie Somg 2.0 and the herbie bottom screen removed I can drop a vapexhale ELB in the herbie bottom chamber and cover up with the 2.0 song and I top that with a 18f/18f connector.

I would love to find a glassblower that could craft me something similar to the bamboo top from the EVO that I could drop into the herbie chamber, that way I could have a more secure method for dropping in the ELBs, then adding the 18mm F/F connector will create a tighter connection, and I would prefer the aesthetics as well.

Does anyone in this thread know of a glassblower on or known to these forums that may be interested in doing a little work? @PeteSeattle i have admired your work and dedication with the supreme from glancing at that thread periodically, but I also got the impression that you're a pretty busy guy!

Hi everyone,

I'm considering the Herbie as my first ever desktop vape due to the great reviews and potential of the unit.

I do have a few questions though, because if I do pull the trigger on one, I want to make sure I get everything I need for it to be perfect (accessories wise).

I tried to find a compiled list of things to buy; however, came up empty handed. So hopefully this post can help some people while also getting confirmation from the Gurus here:

Herbie Accessories List:

Going to call on @MinnBobber for help, as I'm essentially going off of all your posts to combat some of the apparent downfalls of the Herbie. (Apologies in advance, but lot of your previous posts with images are broken).

I think this is the complete list; however, I think I also need a male adaptor for my water pipe, just not sure what mm right this second.

Thank you all in advance!!

PS: I would be picking up the Chong's Choice model.

Sorry about the pics disappearing as Photobuckets' retroactive holding our pics hostage for $$ wiped them out here :(
I'd suggest you add @Ratchett 's Delta 3d Studio's v2.0 water adapter. For open face use (Herbie bottom bowl only + Flexicone module) the V1 version is a little short on the sides and the V2 is a little long. Can you manage to cut off a small amount of the sides of the V2 with an Exacto knife??? V2 is designed to fit over complete bowl so slightly too deep

A generic hydratube (HT) is also a really nice addition, to moisturize the vapor. That can go directly on the flexicone if the HT bottom inlet is well constructed. However, adding the V2 adapter on top of the Flexicone makes it much more secure.
Note that the V2 also serves as a very secure whip connection vs the stock setup (with top bowl and bottom bowl) which is a very wanky connection/easy to pop out.

Chong's Choice is a good choice :)
EDIT--reading again I see you have the V2.0 on list
EDIT #2 :
I pulled out my V2 Song for a re-test and guess what, it does work with the V2. Previously I put it on with very light pressure and it did not mate. Today I pushed down ever so slightly more firm and it does hold the Flexicone. That silly millimeter of extra deflection did the trick :)

Great, thanks for the info!

Follow up question(s):
  1. What type of adaptor will I need to run the herbie to my waterpipe? Would it be Male to Male? (Shove the tube over one side of the adoptor, and plug the other side into the pipe)
  2. I'm still not exactly sure how the Flexicones work, or are used. Can't really find too much information (pics/videos) online. Would you be able to provide some more insight into this and/or post a few pics of the process?
  3. With the V2 adaptor, essentially I just slide the whip over the top and go to town, right?
  4. You say that the V2 adaptor is slightly too deep and I might need to cut it with an exacto blade, but your edit#2 I think states that I don't have to? Just apply a little pressure to get that sucker on? Or did I misinterpret your Edit#2?

Thank you so so much!

I broke down and ordered a new herb chamber. Worth a shit although I'm skelical about it being free of leakage. Here's to hoping! I also ordered the premium whip with he altered Bowl coupler and the 18mm whip adapter. Fingers crossed!

i feel and would think your brand new bowl should not leak. Mine has no issues.

But you should get the 7th floor replacement whip tubing. It has much wider diameter and makes for way better airflow = way better vapor production and way less draw resistance

You probably already know. But just a reminder because it is much better than the stock whip.

Im pretty sure the premium whip has the same diameter. Just has the sideways elbow to prevent the kink that happens with the original stock whips

Hope this helps

1. is your waterpipe a bubbler with a male or female entry point?
I used a Magic Flight Launch Box water whip is a silicone whip with a nice glass male end that mated my female entry bubblers. It has a nice wood handgrip right by the glass male end. Works great for a whip to mouth as glass male piece makes great mouthpiece too.

2. Pics if we get figured how to email to you
3.With V2 adapter and STOCK HERBIE WHIP, whip slides firmly into exit hole in V2 adapter.
Your bigger tubing would not fit like this and need some sort of adapter. Its ID is not large enough to just slide onto V2 as it is way too small for that
4. I orig just lightly pushed down on V2 way out at the outer edge. When I lightly pushed by the center, it went down a hair and then grabbed/held the Flexicone. Orig I thought the sides of V2 were too deep to work, that it "bottomed out" but it can work

I would suggest slowing down and getting Herbie 'as is' at first. I always like to give a new vape an opportunity to teach me something since it was designed to be used a certain way before I go messing with it. You can always buy any and all of that stuff later on if you want or need it, but I use none of it with my Herbie years later and am very happy.

@HiP0WER ,
you certainly may want to get acquainted with the stock Herbie and how that works.
But if you know you like the idea of a hemp filter, and pre-filled modules, and V2 works with stock or mod setup, then you may want to be ready with the minor mods---so you can experiment with other options/techniques

So I have got a replacement Herbie chamber en route, which states it will be here by the 28th, but I was hoping from California to Alaska I might get it by Saturday. I'm guessing that I'll be SOL till Monday.

When it arrives I will take it through some rounds and hopefully I get good results without any vapor leaving from the chamber.

If so, AWESOME. But then that will leave one question in the air...
What to do with the mother chamber?

Some people might just toss it, others may keep it as a backup. But with it already being defective I think my best option is to try and salvage what works and try to make something better, while pitching what is leftover.

The thing that I'm most interested in putting to use is the magnet.

I have thought of several options;

1. Create a sleeve from high-quality cork to slip over the Herbalizer chamber. If it slips on tight I got a feeling this will stop the vapor leakage in its tracks.

2. Either find a local glassblower or someone willing to take on a bit of project, where I'd like to make an all glass or mostly glass herb chamber. Instead of the Herbie chamber I'd like to see something more like the 18mm bamboo tip that the EVO uses so that I can slip an ELB in. Ideally I would be adhering the Herbie chambers magnet to the glass chamber so it could stay nice and secure on top of the Herbalizer.

That has been kicking around my head a bit as well! I'm not sure where I would find glass large enough to cover the chamber but that would be great to use!

Did some researching, but would like to talk about bags.

Is this the best way to do bags?

Also, what length bags would be best for full filled bowls? What about for one single fan cycle with full extraction?
